    Thank you for this lovely pattern. I use 2 circular needles if I don't have a 16" at hand. One of them is usually a half size bigger or smaller, but that is okay. I start the first round with the second needle ( joining the round as usual), and knit to the end. The first needle is now available to be used for round 3. I continue that way to the very end, works well when decreasing at the crown too.

    Just followed your tutorial on double thick cuff hat. The hat looks great in Illimani Santi - Colour Lilac Season. My next project is the Fisherman's Rib Hat and Scarf. Pattern downloaded and your tutorial video all set to begin. Staci, you are definitely the best knitting instructor. You clearly present all the steps of a project in a well paced manner with links clarifying any new concepts. The videos of your tutorials are superb with excellent close-ups of all stages of the project being presented. I am hoping to do the fisherman's rib hat using the two-color fishermans' rib by alternating a light and dark color on alternate round (in-the-round).

    Staci, I love your method for attaching the pompom so it can be removed for washing the hat. When you gift a hat like this to a non-knitter, do you tell them how to remove the pompom and reattach? Include a tapestry needle with the gift? I’m knitting one for a cousin who lives far away and want her to be able to care for it. Thanks, another great video!

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  5 лет назад

      No...the button doesn't really touch your head. I can see how it might bother someone on a tight hat, but this hat has a bit of ease and isn't tight across the top of your head, especially with a flat button.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  6 лет назад +4

      Thank you! Regarding your question, are you asking a general question? The decreases in this hat look good because of trial and error (a normal part of knitting design) - working from an idea, then putting yarn to needles and tweaking and reknitting to refine the idea into a good design.

I love your works, you're a wonderful teacher, just bought this pattern on raverly to make a nice and warm hat and scarf for the winter. (I know it's still like 4-5 months away, but due to my work I have limited time to work on my knitting projects!) Have you ever used 2 color fisherman’s rib as the ribbing on a reversible double knitting hat?

      That's a complicated thing....no, I can't say that I've ever done that.

    When knitting fisherman stitch more wool is needed than a knit stitch,?thks dear

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  4 года назад

      Yes - it creates a thicker fabric, and uses up more yarn than you would need for stockinette stitch.

    Hi Staci, Love the pattern... I just purchased it and want to make the set for my husband, but he would like the brim of the hat to flip up. Is this pattern too bulky for that? If not, how much longer should the hat be. I'm guessing about 3 inches, but not entirely sure.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  6 лет назад

      I think the fabric is a little thick for doubling up at the cuff, but it can be done. The length is up to you, however long you want the cuff to be, add that much at the beginning of the hat. Two to four inches is what we usually see.

    I just started your pattern for the Fisherman's Rib Scarf. When I do the purl stitch and remove the stitch from the needle, it looks like a dropped stitch. I think the outcome might be ok, but definitely not as nice as yours. Am i doing something wrong?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  6 лет назад

      Because you're purling into the stitch below, it does end up looking like a dropped stitch right after you work it. But it all turns out correctly.

    Will this scarf be the same on both sides? Even at the joining of the new color at the two color changes? I'm trying to avoid the purl bumps causing alternating colors where the colors join.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, this scarf is the same on both sides, and if you follow the pattern, it is a clean color-break on both sides.

      @@verypinkknits I changed to color #2 last night, but not before I tried a technique that uses a lifeline, then picks up stitches in the new color. I had a lot of trouble trying to control the tension. I am using bamboo needles and acrylic yarn in the proper weight class. Having gotten in the picked up row and a plain knit row, it occurred to me that the formation of the knit 1 below stitches would cover at least every other purl bump. I ended up pulling that all out and started again switching colors as per your pattern. It seems a bit uneven, the knit side looking like the knit below stitches reach a bit farther down. Do we really need to do a straight knit row for the first row when changing to the next color?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, that is how you get a clean color break.

      No - no need to work the subsequent setup rounds unless you are changing colors.

    • @verypinkknits

      Nope - only knit the setup round if you are changing color. Otherwise, just repeat the two-row repeat.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  4 года назад

      No, sorry...using bulky yarn would change the pattern entirely...you would actually need a totally new pattern written for that yarn weight.
