This is THE best video I have seen concerning the rebuild pf a 241 case. It shows the parts needed, the techniques needed, and goes over each piece that needs to be replaced. Thank you for the details!!
Thank you so much I was putting mine back together and the shift forks were giving me trouble was unsure if I had them in correctly ended up being the pitch of the shift lever thank you helped allot.🤙🏻
Fantastic information and fascinating to watch. You know he has done atleast one before. He breezed through that faster than it took the paint to dry.... but I wonder.... what does Earl think ? Lol, great job... keep it coming.
Mark u do very good work and its a pleasure watching u clearly u enjor doing this as i do more for myself im retired and raise a few angus cattle. But i rely on my truck for all the towing and ranch eork it takes and maintain it myself thats the fun 0art nothing like being able to do most of the work urself great videos thank u.😅
Fast and efficient. Great work except using silicone, silicone is nothing but trouble for leaks. Permatex form a gasket #2 is the only way to go on metal to metal. Never leaks and never gets hard, easy to remove on teardown with alcohol.
@@alanmeyers3957 20+ aviation structural mechanic and i have maintained and rebuilt my own vehicles my whole life now 58. No all these professional mechanics use RTV and it sucks and usually leaks.
I feel like you glossed over a lot of steps in this rebuild, and it lacks a lot of contextual information. This isn’t much of a tutorial on how to rebuild a 271D transfer case. Mostly like just showing off. Kinda a waste of my time.
The only two things I would have liked to have seen was assembling the rear output shaft snap ring and installing the oil pump, and replacing the shifter shaft bearings.
Thanks for the advice boss. Because of your channel I Contacted Mark, ordered a new tcase for lb7 and she’s on the way. Btw all the way down in NC but deff enjoy the content and feel confident kodiak was the way to go. Raise hell praise Dale!
Hello, thanks for sharing this information. My Tcase had a whole lot of shavings and debris inside. May I ask that your method or recommendation is for removing the Main Shaft Drive Hub / Bushing? A bearing separator type clamp perhaps?
Question BTW great Video . Just rebuilt my 273d . Kit I bought did not come with gears. Had to put back together for a trip. Gears in it would rock on the shaft and had play up and down. Should gears fit with no play. Heard you say always replace gears is this why. I still have a slight chattering noise from transfer case at 45 plus. Thank you in advance.
Great video! Always nice to follow along with an experienced master. Disassembled, cleaned and reinstalled parts with a rebuild kit. Only thing that has me pulling out what hair I have left is, I'm sure I installed the pocket bearing too far into its bore. After re-watching you, I am won dering if there is a depth of installation for the bearing in a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 w/ electric shift. Thank you.
Thanks for the info wish I saw it before I got my transfer case rebuilt. They never mentioned replacing the chain and sprockets 🤦♂️ But dang this guy can do it blindfolded
Thanks TruckMaster! Another great, informative video and thanks Mark, you are awesome! TruckMaster, I just bought a 2003 Dodge Ram 5.9 24v Cummins. I’d been looking for a Duramax since I found you and subscribed but couldn’t find one in my budget. Thank you for doing Cummins info too!
Can you please tell me the name / model number of the two c-clip pliers you are using. I tried regular heavy duty ones that I could not get clips off and had to replace the clips afters bending them.
Who the fuck gave the thumbs down if you think you can do a better job then prove it I have one of marks 246 cases guy does one hell of a job and is very theral with every build thanks for the great work mark
@Truckmaster thanks for doing the video. I rebuilt a transfer case over 20 years ago and now I'm doing one for our Dodge truck. The price is on these transfer case housings are outrageous. That being said I have some technical questions for you. So we have the 273D and the only transfer case I could find around was a 273F yeah yeah I know the differences. But I do know that I can change the output shaft housing and swap out the other external parts other than that and the spline swap over is there anything else inside the transfer cases that are different? I lined up the drive sprockets and the chain ours of course is stretched and caused some carnage. It doesn't hold ATF no more. I've got news sprockets and chain ordered the Ford shifter fork or selector fork whatever the f*** it's called The pads on it look brand new inside that Ford transfer case everything looked brand new. Got it from a buddy who was doing a build and was not doing a four-wheel drive. Your reply would be muchly appreciated!
I know where I’m ordering a replacement from when mine needs upgraded and replaced in a couple years . Great video . I think this guy has rebuilt at least one or two of these in his time 👍
Love the way you strip that transfer case man I have 1999 dodge 3500 manual 5 speed trans with Cummins engine and I need rebuild the transfer case so what is the parts number so I can order
That's pretty cool and fast....what also awesome....my mom....yes my "MOM"....lol use to build those chains and timing chains with gear to gear timing at emerson out of ithaca ny.....I have a bearing "maybe" worn a little in a tacoma TRD off road pro...can that be taken off the rear tail shaft and be replaced without splitting the case?....by the design of this one u cant....
So couple big ticket items skipped here: removing the snap rings which retain the mail shaft/planetary behind the seals, rebuilding the inners of the planetary, pocket bearing extraction
I have a question. i have a 273D from an 04 just like the one in the video and parts on order that don't have an ETA so i bought a lower mileage case but turns out the shift selector has got the splined shaft from an 06 i believe. are the selectors interchangeable? If so, is it a lot of work? the video didnt really show removal and didn't show installation.
Why do the manufacturers use ATF in the manual transmission and transfer cases. I just put 75w-90 AMSOIL in my g56. Mercedes recommendations it over atf. Can you do the same in the t case?
My 67 200D Benz used ATF in it's manual transmission. I had an 88 F-150 with a 5 speed that used ATF. It leaked out so bad, I filled it with bar and chain oil and it worked fine and leaked less. I just rebuilt an NV271 like this that leaked oil out the rear seal. Put 50 wt motor oil in it and it leaked less. Now that I've rebuilt it, I am back to ATF+4.
@BF ^ Nice try, but maybe go get them eyes and ears checked, bud. Listen again, Mark snapped that shit in the groove, on the first try. Like a boss. "Click!" @kodiak truck ; Keep doing your thing, Mark.
I recently bought a 2014 Ram 1500. I was told by the dealer after not even a month of owning it that the transfer case needs to be replaced. They want just under three grand. Every time I come to a stop when the transmission downshift from second to first I get a noticeable clunk. Do you think this could be from a stressed out chain inside the transfer case?
Apparently you don't know pounding on bearings with a steel hammer versus using a press you are damaging the hardness and chipping the micro coating on the outer shell of the bearing causing premature bearing failure
This is THE best video I have seen concerning the rebuild pf a 241 case. It shows the parts needed, the techniques needed, and goes over each piece that needs to be replaced. Thank you for the details!!
You can always tell a good mechanic by how confident he is when disassembling and assembling a transmission or transfer case… 👍👍👍
So good they can't even keep the camera on the parts themselves
He is so right about the dodge cases needing an oil change more often. The hubs don't unlock so the whole front end always spins!
Such a stupid design
Mark is a beast! Knows what he’s doin
I’d say he’s done a few of these in his time, awesome video
Thanks
I live in NY and would definitely ship my Transfer Case to this company for repairs! 👍👍👍
Man! Makes me want to drive to you guys from Florida. Beautiful finish.
This man knows exactly what he is doing ! Excellent video !
You sir, make it look so easy. Wish i lived closer.
That holding stand he has was calling to me after wrestling mine around every which way!
I’m about to do this job this weekend. Feeling better about it after this video. Thanks
Thank you so much I was putting mine back together and the shift forks were giving me trouble was unsure if I had them in correctly ended up being the pitch of the shift lever thank you helped allot.🤙🏻
Mark did a great fast job... nice.
Incredibly blessed with your trade. God bless you brother.
Thanks for the knowledgable info and step by step makes for a good refrence
Fantastic information and fascinating to watch. You know he has done atleast one before. He breezed through that faster than it took the paint to dry.... but I wonder.... what does Earl think ? Lol, great job... keep it coming.

Talk about knowing your trade. Incredible!
Finally a good mechanic on RUclips
GREAT step by step on reassembling the 271d it it was not for this video it would have taken me allot longer to get mine put back together.
Thank you

Wow I didn't know that Cummins made transfer cases, let alone any drivetrain components.
The only two things I would have liked to have seen was assembling the rear output shaft snap ring and installing the oil pump, and replacing the shifter shaft bearings.
Great work but it won't last long without the oil pump.

Hello, thanks for sharing this information. My Tcase had a whole lot of shavings and debris inside. May I ask that your method or recommendation is for removing the Main Shaft Drive Hub / Bushing? A bearing separator type clamp perhaps?
Hi, so yes on the bearing separator?
Excellent video, gonna use it as a guide to assemble my 271f into my 2nd gen , with a v10.

where did you purchase a rebuild kit?
@@codymcveigh9444 Hello. Partly from Rigid Axle and partly from Cobra Transmission.
I wonder which ewetoob videos Mark watched to guide him through this?
Lol, love to watch a master at his craft👍

super professional. both of you. nice work
Mark make it look like an easy 10min job haha 😂 great video
I know this video came out a long time ago but is that just regular black silicone for the tail shaft housing or some special kind
I really like this video! Keep up the good content you guys. Very helpful.
Where can I order a kit like that need to fix my transfer case can’t find a complete kit like the one on the videos any help thanks 🙏🏼
I recently ordered a kit for a NP241DLD (2nd Gen Dodge) from TorqueKing, previously known as Quad4x4.
We're do you get a rebuild kit and do they include all the bearings chain and sprockets and seals. Please thank you.

No problem hopefully I can do more Cummins stuff in the future
THAT GUY DOES AWESOME WORK!
Nice I'll do mine now this mad it way easier
Only one thing missed hear the removal of the needle bearing for the front output shaft.
what a beast awesome video
Can you please tell me the name / model number of the two c-clip pliers you are using. I tried regular heavy duty ones that I could not get clips off and had to replace the clips afters bending them.
Hey so what if the 3 tabs on the synchro ring broke off what would happen, trying to figure out what’s wrong with the transfer case or transmission
Who the fuck gave the thumbs down if you think you can do a better job then prove it I have one of marks 246 cases guy does one hell of a job and is very theral with every build thanks for the great work mark
Probably butt hurt because it’s came out of a Dodge 🤷♂️ but good point
Ouch. Please use a bearing driving tool to put the bearings in...
I there a particular band of : sprockets, chain, bearings, and seals that is recommended
Did Mark mention where he gets his Rebuild Kit Partsor what Manufacturer/Supplier he uses?

I normally go with 15-20k
So couple big ticket items skipped here: removing the snap rings which retain the mail shaft/planetary behind the seals, rebuilding the inners of the planetary, pocket bearing extraction
Replacing the selector shaft seal. Looks like a special socket to remove the nut.
Is that really the process to hit them bearings in like that with a steel driver?
master class is in session
I need one fore my 2015 ram 4500 Cummins I need the transfer case when you have available
Have u done an NP149 for a GMC YUKON DENALI AWD???

What's this paint color y'all use to paint the case housing? Is thare a name for it, thanks....
What parts does he use? Is there a kit? Looking to rebuild mine.
I know that it is probably a stupid question but where did you get the parts from
Making me nervous using that hammer around the gears and bearings.😅
What's this paint called or name y'all use for the case housings? Thanks....
That worn output bushing! Just going to run with it I guess???
it was replaced. cant get everything on carmera.
What the difference from the 03 to the 04
