    I drove the hour up to Mark for a transfer case for my 07 Tahoe (Autotrak)after the original rubbed through, and I came across your original tcase video. Mark is an awesome guy and a stand up business man, called him up and he had one ready next day. This was about 3 years ago I believe and its been great so far. 😎👍

    My 2006 Chevy 2500 4x4 Duramax got 713000 miles 26000 hours and the same transfer case not a rub hole yet. But I change the oil in the case every 15000 miles using Lucas oil additive. Had to replace rear axle at 475000 miles but haven’t touch the transfer case. Guess I’ll keep changing my T case oil every 15000 miles. Live in northeast and always towing and using 4x4 during winter use. Again maintenance is been my key to not have break downs.

    Used that original video to rebuild my case back in the day. The mode fork wore out but I didn’t know it was the rear snap ring groove. Rebuilt it with a case saver and went on my way. For about 3k miles, then it did it again. Got an aluminum rear half and rebuilt it again. No issues this time. Swapped to 0w-20 motor oil as the viscosity is very close to that of Dexron VI. I change it once a year and it always comes out the same way it went in. I also fill through the speed sensor port so that it’s very full of oil.

    320k miles on my 10/05 build date 2006 LBZ w/261XHD... Gets run in 4wd almost every time I drive it as my sub has a steep hill that tends to washboard and 4wd helps keep it smooth. So far no pump rub hole in the case but when it does get one, I'm planning to put an aluminum rear case half on it... That roller bearing chain drive gear looks nice too!! Jeep took out the bearing when they went away from CAD, because everything is spinning all the time but with CAD, our trucks run that gear metal to metal, with only lube film to keep it from wearing... A bearing there just makes sense to me... FWIW, I run half and half synthetic ATF and synthetic 80W90. Thickens up the lube some but not as much as 5W30, since atf is ~10wt and 90wt on the same scale is like 30wt engine oil IIRC... The steel friction doesn't care about the 90wt but if you try this in the BW case with non-steel frictions, it will dissolve them and then grind going into 4wd... ask me how I know... :(

    I have to agree on the best unit out there. I wish I would have seen it video before I rebuilt my t case I think ur t case is at least a 400 k unit I have the factory 273. I'm not unhappy with it. I've done lots with my truck and the tcase is not in bad shape. I replaced all bearings chain and sprockets cost about 300. I bought the parts from Allstate gear they are decent parts. I am sure there are better. But when this t case fails at some point. I am a machinist by trade so I get it. And wish I would have but I think it'll last another 200 k or so I have a general fix for the pump rub without doing a bunch although I have no issue with the pump rub no failure on the dodge ram 04 I know it's silly puttied in place go figure not a fix for poor parts fitment. Also I u uses substantially better gear lube it reduces wear in many key points again nothing lasts forever. If I need another t case for any reason I will be calling you. Thank u

    Aluminum front case halves are available now? Thats great, the aluminum rears are markedly better in every way I can see, even the structural ribs on the outside are thicker than the OEM.
    I really wouldnt go to anyone else but Kodiak if I was looking for a full replacement unit at this point. That rollerized carrier bearing alone is worth it, but the full aluminum unit being offered now makes it a no brainer. The only thing I dont agree on, that I did different was the merchant auto pump-rub plate, filing down the lugs is necessary to allow it to shift around freely like the OEM assembly to prevent binding when using the Al rear case half, but I feel getting rid of those knife like lugs on the OEM pump assy altogether is the best move. With such thin pieces of metal, even if you arent wearing the new Al case I feel those stand the chance of wearing down over time.
    Of course I recommend adding something like the merchant auto or PPE t-case brace regardless of what route youre going. Peace of mind is priceless.

None of the issues with this case are related to using 4wd so use it as much as you can. For the manual case, at least once a month just to keep oil slung around the front diff, with the electric shift t-case, shift that sucker in and out of 4wd at least once a week and it'll work forever. Leave it sit two years without pushing a button and you'll find that sooner or later it won't work at all...

    When you said 1,585 my heart sank. I just spent 980 for a used one without the pump rub kit 😢

    I had a hole in my 06 2500HD. I put a MA pump kit in it with a new rear t-case cover. Went through all the drivetrain in the t-case. Bearings and other metal parts all looked good. The only parts I had to replace other than the new pump kit and case half was the thrust washer for the planetary, new pads for the shift forks and I put new seals all the way around. Been working fine for several years now.

    Is this issue on HD only or is it including the 1/2 ton?

    I put the pump rub kit in mine about a little over a year ago it only had 67000 miles on it but even at that the little clip was broke into wasn't much wear but there was some I checked the bearings they seemed really good so I'm thinking it should last me years

    If you were to measure a difference in case temperature (presumably lower temperature), this would support the claim of improved economy.

    It's criminal that GM gets away with selling such garbage, prone to failure from the day it was designed on paper and they just never have to pay the price for it. The "Duramax" (Izuzu) engine is good, the Allison Transmission is great, the rear axles hardly ever have issues... the rest of the truck, absolute garbage, mostly made in Cheaper and that oem transfer case is a piece of junk.
    If I buy one of these new manufactured Kodiac Transfer cases, can they bill GM for it?

  • @brianperkins3782
    @brianperkins3782 Год назад +5

    2-3 mpg gain is pretty spectacular. Depending on condition of current transfer case, it will vary I’m sure.
    Takeaway from this video, new transfer case from Kodiak will off set fuel economy lost by larger, more aggressive tires. Notes for review with my wife when she’s questions the decision.
