TEAM AMERICA WORLD POLICE MOVIE REACTION | 0:00 - 28:31
TEAM AMERICA WORLD POLICE MOVIE REVIEW | 28:32 - 30:46
Team America World Police Movie Description:
When North Korean ruler Kim Jong-il (Trey Parker) orchestrates a global terrorist plot, it's up to the heavily armed marionettes of the highly specialized Team America unit to stop his dastardly scheme. The group, which includes the thespian-averse technology expert Chris (Matt Stone), not only has to face off against Jong-il, but they must also contend with F.A.G., the Film Actors Guild, a cadre of Hollywood liberals at odds with Team America's "policing the world" tactics.
Team America: World Police is a 2004 black comedy action film directed by Trey Parker and written by Parker, Matt Stone and Pam Brady, all of whom are also known for the popular animated television series South Park. Starring Parker, Stone, Kristen Miller, Masasa, Daran Norris, Phil Hendrie, Maurice LaMarche, Chelsea Marguerite, Jeremy Shada and Fred Tatasciore, the film is a satire of big-budget action films and their associated clichés and stereotypes, with particular humorous emphasis on the global implications of the politics of the United States. The title is derived from domestic and international political criticisms that the foreign policy of the United States frequently and unilaterally tries to "police the world". Team America follows the fictional titular paramilitary police force and their recruitment of a Broadway actor in an attempt to save the world from North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il, who is leading a conspiracy of Islamic terrorists and liberal Hollywood actors in a bid for global destruction.
Instead of live actors, the film uses a style of puppetry based on Supermarionation, known for its use in the British TV series Thunderbirds, although Stone and Parker were not fans of that show. The duo worked on the script with former South Park writer Brady for nearly two years. The film had a troubled time in production, with various problems regarding the marionettes, as well as the scheduling extremes of having the film come out in time. In addition, the filmmakers fought with the Motion Picture Association of America, who returned the film over nine times with an NC-17 rating due to an explicit sex scene in the film. The film was cut by less than a minute and rated R for "graphic crude and sexual humor, violent images and strong language - all involving puppets".
The film premiered at the Denver Film Festival on October 14, 2004, and was released theatrically in the United States the following day on October 15, 2004, by Paramount Pictures. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and grossed over $51 million worldwide against its $32 million budget.

During the early days of the War on Terror, especially when we were invading Iraq, Hollywood was extremely outspoken in their opposition to the invasion. Michael Moore had a famous impromptu rant about Bush and invading Iraq when he won an Oscar for Bowling for Columbine. This movie really takes swipes at both sides of the issue: How America drops in on other countries to catch bad guys, and end up bombing the place to shit… and how Hollywood celebrities like to think they’re political commentators, when the majority of them are dumber than rocks.

According to legend, that sex scene actually went on for about 10 minutes originally, and was WAY more graphic and over the top than in the final cut of the film (even to the point where the puppets shit on each other). The reason they went SO over the top was because Matt and Trey knew the ratings board would make them censor a lot of it, so filmed a bunch of crazy stuff that they knew they'd have to cut so they had something to 'bargain' with, which allowed them to leave in the crazy stuff that they actually wanted!

When they wrapped, Trey and Matt were quoted as saying "We will never work with puppets again!" Trey is a bit of a workaholic and a perfectionist. They actually commissioned software to move the puppets' mouths real time with voice actors, but after Trey saw the result, he insisted to got back to manual control because it was "too perfect", and he wanted to really lean into the akwardness of the puppets.

I agree it could've been better, but that's because no one took the plan seriously. The date for exiting Afghanistan was set by Trump; Biden simply followed through.
The reason no serious preparations for evacuation were made was because all previous presidents for decades had been talked into staying, and the military industrial complex (and the politicians/media in their pocket) assumed the same would occur this time. It certainly worked Trump and Obama, but Biden was there before and knew the reasons to stay were just more excuses & moving the goal post. Biden holds his ground on this one thing, and suddenly, they have to scramble to make the withdrawal of Afghanistan happen (something they had a year to prepare.)
War is a racket, and I advise anyone to look into "The Afghanistan Papers" to have a better grasp of why the goal was never about helping people (that's just how it's marketed to U.S. citizens) but about maintaining perpetual war for profit.

@@Rhodair Literally the only accurate statement you just made was about the Afghanistan papers. Trump’s pullout date was in may. Biden broke that deal, moving the date back to september. Also, the idea that Biden isn’t an establishment war hawk is just god damn hilarious. It was Biden’s responsibility to make sure preparations for the pullout were being made, he failed. Don’t blame the middle managers for the strategic failures of the president and his generals.

    • @Rhodair
      @Rhodair 2 года назад +2

@@grannytorrelli2560 Good point about the pullout date change.
Yeah, Biden's a war hawk like the others in majority of situations; I only give kudos for him actually following through with ending it. You're right about the date being moved; I had "commitment for exiting" in mind but erroneously said date which is wrong. Biden is slightly less war hawk here, though, and he often disagreed with Obama on how far to take things. He's still a war criminal like every other president in my lifetime. He still agreed with most of it; he's only slightly better in not wanting it to last forever.
As Biden later stated, the buck stops with him. There can be problems occurring in lower levels impossible to foresee, but responsibility always travels back to the top. Gov reports will be totally different based on the biases of those shaping them and can look 'good enough' instead of what's right. I only mention this as why I don't put _all_ my blame on Biden alone. I might blame the middle managers and generals just as much but never more than Biden.

Another fact, the people who designed the puppets are the legendary Chiodo Brothers. Who’re best known for doing stop motion and practical effects for films like Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, UHF, the first four Critters films, Ernest Scared Stupid and Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

@@markbartoszek8585 - That and having to deal with the MPAA again was probably also annoying as hell for them (not to mention stressful).
When South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut was to be released, MPAA kept slapping it with an NC-17 rating. Here's a quote from the Wikipedia page:
"Of the six times the film was screened to the MPAA, it was designated NC-17 after five screenings, the last of which was two weeks before its scheduled release. A marketing agent from Paramount called Parker and Stone and explained that the studio "needed" an R. In response, Stone contacted producer Scott Rudin, who in turn called a Paramount executive and, in Stone's words, "freaked out on them." The film's rating was lowered to R the following day, with the original film intact."
I mention this because they did the EXACT SAME thing with Team America, originally gave it an NC-17, but Matt and Trey were prepared. From what I heard they made the "sex scene" much longer, almost double the time in the movie. After they got the NC-17 rating, they "cut out" many parts of it. Basically it made the MPAA think they "won" by letting them censor part of the movie.
MPAA really had it out against Matt and Trey for w/e reason as I think this dated back to their 1997 film titled "Orgasmo" and followed them ever since.
Then again, now that I think about it, if they had made a Team America 2, they could bypass MPAA and just release direct to Streaming services instead.
But I agree with you, if they truely hated doing it, I doubt no amount of money would ever make them do a 2nd one.
