You can tell it's made by the South Park guys. If you like this you can always check out South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. That one is kinda interesting, cause they were certain the show was gonna get canceled after like two season, so they made a movie to end big.

@@ShreeNationI find it extremely INTERESTING and quite comically COINCIDENTAL, that you said the voice of intelligence sounds like your stoner ex-boyfriend!😅
Also you said he sounded like he was from California!!
I would say you were quite right on both accounts and let me explain what I mean!!
Google a former radio personality by the name of Phil Hendrie, he is the gentleman that is doing the voice of intelligence!! Phil became famous by doing a radio show where he would do characters/voices, and at least a couple of DOZEN DIFFERENT voices, ONE of which is the voice that you hear coming from intelligence!! The character's name was Jeff Dowder and he was a California surfer, stoner, so you hit the nail right on the head!!! As I said if you Google the name Phil Hendrie you will see MANY examples of what he used to do on the radio which was absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!
To give you an example of his CRAZY humor and what these characters used to do, Jeff Dowder once called the program because he thought that we could clone Jesus using DNA from the shroud of Turin, the cloth that supposedly Mary Magdalene wiped Jesus's face with! It definitely made for some good radio with the banter between the character and actual callers who would call into the show to argue with him!!😅😅

Saw this insane movie in theaters and laughed the entire time. The songs had no right being this good, but Matt & Trey have always been musically inclined.
The vomit scene lives forever in my head. The way they make the puppet shake, the sputtering, and the ridiculous quantity just had me crying with laughter.

A funny bit of trivia for Team America that relates to me personally is that "Joe Smith" (the blond-haired guy on the team) is actually based on Scott Frost, a real person I once met. In a behind the scenes feature for the making of the movie, Trey and Matt talked about the backgrounds and inspirations for the various characters. They described Joe as being "a former quarterback on the University of Nebraska football team before he joined Team America, and now he's the 'quarterback' of the team who acts as the leader in the field and keeps them together and focused." Frost was the only then-recent former Nebraska quarterback who matched the appearance of Joe and was clearly the person Joe was based on.

1:00 It's called supermarionation. Marionettes with radio controlled devices in their heads. It was invented by British TV legend Gerry Anderson, creator of such shows as Thunderbirds.
As to why Team America is in France, the film is a satire of America following the start of the Iraqi War, when people said they thought they had the right to "police the world."

    Some random notes:
Arec Bardwin is voiced by Maurice LaMarche, better known as "The Brain" from "Pinky and The Brain" or Kif from Futurama.
The puppeteers were a bit too polished with their work at parts at had to be instructed to not be as good at their jobs as they were making it a bit too difficult to remember that these were marionettes.
For the actors' reactions- George Clooney was rather annoyed at his portrayal as he'd helped promote Trey and Matt when "The Spirit of Christmas" short started getting passed around Hollywood. Sean Penn sent an angry letter. No. He really did. Damon is still confused and a bit pissed off about it in recent interviews. I vaguely recall hearing that Tim Robbins thought it was funny.
The film makers have both publicly stated that they are never going to work with puppets again.

"As actors, it is our responsibility to read the newspapers and then say what we read on television like it's our own opinion."
Fun Fact: The Michael Moore puppet was stuffed with ham before it was blown up.
Lost In Translation Fact: When the Film Actors Guild decides to go to North Korea, the members all shout "Qapla!" which is Klingon for success.
Matt Damon Fact: Originally, Matt Damon was going to be portrayed as intelligent and articulate, but when they saw the puppet, they noted that it made him "look retarded" and decided to portray him as such. Unfortunately, I personally can no longer take Matt Damon seriously anymore. Whenever I see him, all I hear is "Matt Damon!" ringing in my ears.
MPAA Hacks Fact: Due to a puppet sex-scene, the movie was given a NC-17 Rating by the MPAA. The scene was edited nine times before they received the R rating they were shooting for. Trey Parker later admitted that the scene was originally added to distract the MPAA from the rest of the film's subject matter. On Matt Stone's urging, the scene was reinstated on the "unrated" DVD.
Blink And You'll Miss It Fact: The statue in Jong-Il Kim's palace is actually a human in heavy makeup. In the first scene in which he appears, you can see his eyes blinking. In the overhead shot of Gary lying in the giant puddle of vomit, it is actually Trey Parker wearing a pair of fake legs so his proportions more closely match those of the marionettes. The "vomit" was a mixture of soup and beer. As a subtle detail in the opening scene in Paris, the streets are paved with croissants.

      Heavy Metal (1981)

The Adventures Of Mark Twain (1985)
      An American Tail (1986)
      Kaena: The Prophecy (2003)

The head internals were motorized and pre-programmed on computer to match the pre-recorded dialog.
Matt Damon being ... "special" wasn't planned from the start. When his head sculpture came out of the oven, Matt & Trey thought he looked... well.. Special.
Sean Penn visited Iraq and told the world how wonderful the place was and how the war needs to stop. This is why puppet Penn said, "I went to Iraq, you know!" Sean Penn wrote Matt & Trey a profanity-laced letter expressing his displeasure.
This film was given an advanced screening to a bunch of Paramount staff. One of the executes saw the first shot of the movie with a cheap-looking puppet on a flat background. He stood up and shouted, "Oh my God, they F____ED US!"
The film draws inspiration from primarily two places.. Micheal Bay movies (of course), and the iconic "Thunderbirds" marionette films from 1965-66. Thunderbirds even had a response code "F.A.B." (Fully Advised and Briefed)
The various world location sets had little sight gags. The streets of France were made of croissants. Panama's plants were pot. North Korea's homes were Chinese take-out cartons.
The musical "LEASE" was a combination of "Rent" and "Grease" (Rent being about AIDS)
If you liked the music in this film, the same composer made music for Matt & Trey's "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" Just as funny as this one.

The director's commentary on the "unrated" deluxe DVD is worth the price of the disc alone. Parker and Stone created a gem so packed with jokes, there's always a fresh one to discover on the next viewing. They cover most of them in their DVD commentary. If you are totally unfamiliar (and why should you be? - it was before you were born) search Gerry Anderson's "Thunderbirds" TV series (filmed in 'supermarionatrion'!) to appreciate the cornerstone of this whole film. I also love how they puppetized an infamous shot from Howard Hughes' film "Hell's Angels" (the two planes colliding head-on in mid air). I understand that this movie was a LOT more work than they originally expected, but it really was worth it. Team America: World Police is unique - and in its way, iconic.

I first watched this back in 2006 when the US was heavy into the "War of Terror". So the mainstream public's American exceptionalism love affair, though diminished by the Bush administration's incompetence on both domestic and foreign affairs was beginning to become more and more obvious, was still at an all time high. This was what made it so hilarious at the time, I believe my neighbors heard me laughing, they had to have, this was the first movie that made me laugh out loud at a comedy. Most times I laugh like that it's at unintentionally funny stuff like bad movie dummies falling or exploding in serious movies. So you give me puppets, War of Terror satire, and I was in. Movie is still pretty funny today, given how that War on Terror stuff is STILL the talking points used by conservative even hawkish liberal politicians and media pundits, holy shit they're still doing it!!!!

The speech of Gary at the end about Dicks, Pussies and Assholes is surprisingly profound and is unironically one of the greatest political sppech ever said and is basically true.
If tough guys don't deal with dictators and lets the 'woke' try to accomodate with them, in the end we all pay the price.
Btw, I'm pretty sure you saw the cut version of the sex scene. In the uncut version there is also golden shower and shit involved 🤣🤣🤣
Also, the team behind the movie is the same that made South Park so that's for the crass humour and political commentary.
The voice of King Jong Il for example is by Trey Parker who also does Eric Cartman in South Park.

  • @tranya327

“Rinse my mind with Grizzly Bear fight scenes” (to wash away the memories of the puppet sex). - I’m going to have to remember that one!
Welcome to the Greatest Comedy of all time - masterminded by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the South Park guys. The only other films that are remotely in the same ballpark, are ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’ (1975) and ‘Airplane!’ (1980).
    ••••
A couple of things that I think you may have missed upon first viewing:
    1) Kim Jung-Ill’s speech is intentionally stilted in the stereotyped way with ‘R’s substituted for every ‘L’. This depiction would induce wild outrage today as blatant anti-Asian racism, and would have, even in 2004 when the film was released. It’s only the fact that it’s the South Park guys, whose ‘brand’ is “we do absolutely EVERY forbidden thing, no matter HOW offensive it is,” that shields them from such criticism.
    2) The suicide bomber leftist who self-detonates inside the Mt Rushmore headquarters (destroying it), is the filmmaker Michael Moore - widely recognized and often mentioned as a dishonest filmmaker. His most famous documentary is, “Bowling for Columbine.” Moore has been on the receiving end of scathing satire a number of times. Trey and Matt went after him particularly hard in this film, because in Moore’s film ‘Bowling for Columbine,’ Moore combined documentary footage of Trey and Matt, with a South Park-style animation (which was NOT done by them). The edited final product is intended to convey to the viewing audience that Trey and Matt hold a set of views that they don’t hold and don’t endorse. Trey and Matt made sure to return the favor.
Apart from Michael Moore himself, the film also goes after ••hard leftist•• actors and the hard Left (as personified by arrogant actors) generally: The Leftist view has come to see America as wrong at its core, and as evil from its very beginnings (so, why not destroy Mt. Rushmore - a symbol of America’s beginnings?) (The film is obviously an equal-opportunity offender, and its targets hit stereotypes on the right of course, also.)
    3) Gary’s Broadway play “Lease” is a parody of the play “Rent.” The scene is satirizing the Left’s focus on AIDS as a fetish, and the focus coming to occupy the center of people’s lives - one more political/cultural movement serving as a substitute for healthier things that used to occupy that center, such as religion. (The desire to organize to help victims of a terrible disease, isn’t wrong & never was; turning it into a Leftist fad, and a vehicle to attack American society, is what was being satirized.)
    ••••
I think the overall viewpoint of this film, goes something like this:
    - The world is royally screwed up, and there are no perfect answers;
    - There IS genuine evil in the world - actual terrorists and the states who support them - and it must be fought.
    - America seems to have gotten the job by default, because no one else can.
    - America’s contemporary culture of mindless jingoism, and wild ignorance about geographic and historical basics, is both very annoying and a real handicap.
    - American intervention abroad often ends badly (including, since this film was released, the withdrawal from Iraq under Barak Obama and the withdrawal from Afghanistan under Joe Biden).
    - It’s not fully clear whether the film’s viewpoint is that America’s intervention is actually •worse than• what terrorists with weapons-of-mass-destruction (unopposed) would have done to a place. (We see the wild destruction of the Panama Canal and Mt. Rushmore - which Team America were unable to stop. We don’t see what would have happened in France or Egypt if Team America hadn’t been there. We do see Kim Jung Ill’s envisioned-but-thwarted outcomes of destroyed sites in Hollywood, the Taj Mahal, etc.)
The film’s view can be inferred that it’s either a coin-flip between American intervention and terrorism, or that the balance lands in favor of Team America saving everyone, but that the price is extremely high (and would we Americans kindly pull it together and get it right!) Gary's "Three kinds of People..." speech seems to point more in favor of the second viewpoint.
    ••••
Finally, this film is Trey Parker’s brilliant commentary on classic American action/adventure films, including how they’re structured and all their tropes (secret vulnerabilities of the lead characters; interpersonal conflicts coming to a head at the worst possible times, montages to bridge between major events, etc.)

The fathomless levels of satire in this film are amazing. The Easter egg count is absurd (the streets of Paris paved with croissants!!!😅). From america's careful and precise foreign policy, to any other language sounding like two actual words and the rest is gibberish, to the social dynamics of media & ammo'sexuality & poorly informed political mob rule, it truly represents all the teams that make up america (duck'yeah!). Especially when the rest of the planet is just trying to do their day and can only stare in disbelief at what has been done during the Team's freedom policing.

The whole movie is one long string of parodies. I don't think anyone assumed that the durka durka was even remotely intended to be taken as an actual language because it was so outrageously obvious which is the source of the humour.
Also WMD's are massive scale weapons like nukes, missile launchers are definitely not classified as WMDs lol.
AIDs does not have a cure, there is no medicine that fixes it so it's still a death sentence. The latest generations in the USA seem to have been mislead on that considering how free they are with sex.
This movie is definitely not intended for the new generation that takes everything overly seriously or literally, it's designed for a laugh.
After all, laughter is the best medicine.

Admit it, Shree, you LOVED the puppet sex scene 😉😂🤣😜
I believe there's an uncut version where the sex scene is longer 😂😜
The movie is made by Trey Parker & Matt Stone, the creators of South Park.
They did not have a great experience making this movie, it was so bad they never want to work with puppets again.
I remember seeing an interview with Trey & he looked burned out, he simply just had enough. He even said that he doesn't want to do movies anymore & they haven't done a motion picture since this one.
They've done a few South Park Specials, but that's it.
The Matt Damon doll was originally gonna be smart & articulated, but when they saw the doll he looked too "mentally handicapped" & therefore they changed his persona & only had him say "Matt. Damon." 😂😜
Alec Baldwin actually wanted to voice himself in this movie, but they went with voice actor Maurice LaMarche instead because he did a better Alec Baldwin voice than the real Alec Baldwin 😜
And my guess is that LaMarche was more cheaper to hire than Baldwin.
Other Trey Parker/Matt Stone movies you should check out - Cannibal the Musical (distributed by Troma Entertainment), Orgazmo, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut & BASEketball (which is directed by David Zucker, one of the directors behind Top Secret, Airplane & Naked Gun)
I agree, Michael Bay sucks. The only good movie he has ever made was The Rock. Though I had to admit that Armageddon has its moments.
