I love how the puppeteers said they could make the fight scenes look super awesome, but Trey and Matt basically went ‘Nah, it’s way funnier if it looks crappy’.
According to Trey Parker and Matt Stone it was apparently excruciatingly difficult making this movie. A simple shot of a puppet turning and walking through a door would take them a dozen takes because of how hard they were to control. I think they said making this movie was the most miserable they'd ever been but it was definitely worth it because the final product is incredible.
The South Park creators said it was so difficult dealing with all the puppets and voice overs in this film, that they would never ever ever make another film with puppets again. Apparantly Matt Damon was quoted in a interview stating-"I thought it was brilliant! I mean, I never understood it, and then I heard an interview with them and they said the puppet came in looking kind of mentally deficient and they didn’t have time to change it, so they just made me someone who could really only say his own name."
You have to remember, first and foremost, this was a satire of the era just after 9/11 where America wanted to attack everyone, and Hollywood vocally opposed them.
Samantha said in a reaction video a long time ago that she couldn't handle vomit, needless to say I've been looking forward to this reaction ever since 😂
Funniest vomit scene ever! It just keeps coming!!! The first time I saw it in theaters I laughed to tears when it started sputtering and his body shakes.

Alec Baldwin loved it. He had a great sense of humour about it. Said when he dropped his kid off at school other kids would shout “you’re useress Arec Baldwin at him” 😂
The soundtrack to this film is beyond amazing. I know Trey and Matt are musically talented due to all their other works but I still sing “America, Fuck Yeah!” in my daily life 😂
I literally just had my kid listen to Montage a couple days ago. He said about something we (or maybe just him) had seen with a montage, and he said it was the perfect montage song. I was like, "Nah, Montage is the greatest montage song." I caught him singing "were gonna need a montaaaage" yesterday lol.
There was some controversy surrounding the sex scene. The ratings board wanted it to be cut or else face an X rating. The producers had to explain to them that little dolls, that have no genitalia, bumping into each other is not pornographic. They got their R rating.
I watched Thunderbirds as a kid and this movie delivered both nostalgia with fantastic adult humor. I think this movie has made you both laugh the hardest in any comedy reaction you've done so far.
I was about to mention Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet. I actually loved Captain Scarlet a lot. I didn't notice how much murder was in it until I watched them as an adult.
P.S - Sean Penn complained and tried to have his character removed. Trey Parker read out his formal letter of complaint publicly at some event to further mock him 😂😂 Trey Parker and Matt Stone are heroes
Dude, the icing on the cake was Sam's reaction to the timeless ballad for the ages, "I'm so lonely" as only Kim Jong iL can sing it. ------ Just when I didn't think this reaction could get any funnier. ----- A musical interlude by the man himself sends me rolling off the sofa. ----- I think I got enough laughs for a month with this reaction. ------ Thank you Sam and Daniel, you both never fail to bring the goods.
I have to say. Sam's face when they start talking fake Arabic was simply PRICELESS!!! ------- I cant stop laughing. What a riot. I Love this reaction so much!!
Because of the immense size of the sets they built, the puppeteers had to be well out of camera range and were often controlling the puppets from scaffolding 30 feet off the ground. The technical achievement here is amazing.
the reason Matt Damon's puppet was talking like he was "special" was because Matt and Trey thought the puppet looked stupid and not like Matt at all, so they made it "special". Sam's reactions are priceless. She makes me laugh so much when she laughs uncontrollably, LOL.
From the year 2000 until today - my three favorites comedies 1. Team America 2. Super Troopers 3. Tropic Thunder The thing about Team America - it came out just a few years after 9/11… some friends and I went to see this in the theater during its release and we all died laughing. I’m glad you reviewed this - you two have a great day. 👍

This came out at the perfect time for me, my friends took me to see this to try n cheer me up n it actually fucken worked. This movie will always have a special place in my heart.
One of the funnest things to do with tis film is to re watch it and pick out all the things they used for props, like Chinese take out boxes for buildings in North Korea or in Egypt a woman was walking with a basket of Goldfish Crackers on her head. Tons o fun! Never seen Daniel laugh so hard, I almost passed out watching him almost pass out.
The barfing scene is my favorite as well. I had already laughed hard through most of the rest of the movie but during that scene I was laughing so hard that I was literally wheezing, crying, coughing, and had to stop the movie to catch my breath. The laughs were coming out like uncontrollable high-pitch giggling of a little girl. It was wonderful.
Trey and Matt are great. Just a couple dudes from a Denver suburb making great topical humor at current events as they arise:) this time they really spoof blockbuster action films of the Michael Bay Jerry Bruckheimer variety. They literally put everything they had into this:) Great stuff:)
Sean Penn says 'K'Plah' which is Klingon for 'Success / good luck/ good hunting'. The whole movie is a tribute to the works of Gerry Anderson, in particular 'Thunderbirds'. Parker and Stone have sworn to never make another marionette movie now that they know how hard it is to achieve.

Everytime I see a reaction video of this I think of the time I got my mom to take me and a group of friends to see this for my 12th birthday. I can't even imagine what she thought
I always loved how they are obviously putting so much effort in to the puppetry then intentionally do rudimentary bad puppetry when they walk or fight. Whenever it's funnier to make it obvious they're puppets they'll do that. I wasn't taken off guard by I'm So Lonely because SP: Bigger, Longer and Uncut had Satan's Up There at basically the same point of the movie. As soon as those notes hit it was like "oh, okay, here comes the villain song."
I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen this since theaters. I was crying laughing so hard rewatching it on here. Usually comedies don’t hold up to repeat viewings. But, this one was great.
I feel like my humor taste changes dramatically with time. A lot of comedies I thought were hysterical 10 years ago. Are ok, regardless. No comedy is going to pack the same punch as the first time you see and hear the jokes.
This came out when I was in college, working for my college newspaper. I remember that one of my editors was so excited when she reviewed this for the entertainment section. She said when again would she be able to use the words "salacious puppet s*x" in her journalism career.! Great review guys.
Daniel waiting for the vomit scene the whole movie.... Me too man! My favorite scene. God I can't even remember how hard I laughed when I first saw it.
One of my favorite little throwaway gags in this movie is just the way that they add a subtitle saying how far away from America each location is because a lot of Americans have no idea where other countries are.
It also just shows how Empire America is getting into all these far away countries business constantly when it has minimal impact either way on American life.
I remember reading an article when the USMC took Fallujah in Iraq. As the Marines were getting in position, a psy-ops vehicle with loudspeakers was outside of town, broadcasting insults in Arabic to the town. Then, when they moved out to assault the town, they started playing "America, Fuck Yeah".
Me and my friend got stoned and went to the theatre to see this. It was just us and this group of like 7 elderly people who walked out within 3 minutes (I’m not kidding). Me and him stayed and laughed till we cried.
Semi-related, but Stargate SG1 did a 200th episode that came out around the same time as this movie. They hired the same production company to do a scene with the same sort of puppets and it's hilarious (but mostly in the context of the show).
This movie is more and more correct in it's portrayal of holier-than-thou actors every day. By now the outrageous behaviour of the caricatures in the movie is probably less egregious than the real deal. I swear to you, Gary's 'heroic cleansing' moment in the alley almost killed me the first time I saw it. I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard.
3:49 Matt Stone and Trey Parker said that the puppeteers they were working with were so talented that they could’ve done an intricate fight scene but they decided it was funnier to just have them wiggle around.
I saw this at the theatre when it came out. I laughed so hard I had a migraine. The whole theatre was in tears and gasping for air most of the movie. It was the funniest film I’ve ever seen in a theatre.
😂😂😂 watching you guys laugh at the throw up scene made me laugh harder than I have in a while, my ribs hurt. This movie always reminds me of being 12 years old when it came out and how ungodly hard I laughed then, what a ridiculous specific piece of American history 😂😂😂
Gary vomiting for like, three straight minutes, with like.. the soundtrack behind it, is both the hardest I've ever laughed in a movie theater, and easily the loudest laughing I've ever heard in a movie theater, in my life.
the whole movie is amazing, and the shot I still like most is them going "We stopped the terrorists" while being surrounded by the destruction they made far worse
This was specifically done in the style of ‘supermation’ perfected by the creator of The Thunderbirds, where they’re marionettes with ventriloquist style heads. The puppeteers were some of the best in the world and while they could do all the intricate movements of real people Matt Stone and Trey Parker had them purposely play up the joke of the characters being puppets having limited mobility. The opening kung fu was done for real during rehearsal.
This is by far my favorite reaction to one of my favorite movies. You two had me laughing even harder than when I first saw it 😂... you're my people, lol!
C'mon everybody we've got quilting to do!" Still one of my all time favorite movies lines. That and "He's the best martial arts master Detroit has to offer!", As well as all the "No me gusta!" lines during the Panama Canal scene always gets me. Note: I lived in the metro Detroit area for 25 years and didn't realize we were where all the martial arts masters lived.
My theater experience with this was watching with my two older brothers, since we all loved South Park. The theater was mostly full. About half of us were just dying laughing the whole time. A quarter of the people were looking around wondering why we thought it was so funny, and the rest walked out of the theater within the first 20 minutes or so. It was great.
The hardest I have ever laughed in my life was when I saw the South Park movie in theaters. I had never seen the tv show and was completely unfamiliar with it. I was so sore from heavy laughter at the end I had to legit call in sick the next day. And while Matt and Trey have never won an Oscar, the South Park movie was a nominee for best musical number.
Hilarious reaction guys Sam's face was priceless throughout although the ronry scene was my personal favourite haha😂 and i think i speak for everyone when i say "Matt Damonnn"! Haha
I am DEAD from your laughing! I’ve jsut had 2 root canals & 2 extractions and dying but your laughing and this movie had me dying, which hurts but so good to smile lol thanks
There are actually two interviews in which Matt Damon tells how he feels about his role in this movie. In the first one he was rather irritated, but in the second one he said the director was a genius. :D
The speech on the three types of people is the most profound and insightful moment in cinematic history. Socrates, Shakespeare and Freud never understood humanity as well as this.
Probably the funniest film ever made. I saw this in the theatre with a few friends way back and we were crying painfully with laughter throughout. And unlike a lot of other comedies than csn get less funny after numerous repeat viewing, Team America always makes me crease. The satire, the physical comedy of the Puppets, to just outright ludicrous little moments like the "suicide hammer" 😂
Fun fact the design of the puppets were made by The Chiodo Brothers who are most famous for there film Killer Klowns From Outer Space which they made and directed!
"There's so much!" "It's, like, spraying!" Easily the funniest vomit scene ever (Family Guy ipecac is 2nd place). It just keeps going, and when Gary starts sputtering and shaking I can't stop laughing 🤣🤣🤣
I absolutely love the detail and Care they put in the movie. When F.A.G. is talking to the summit of world leaders, you can see the king of Belgium in the front. I am Belgian and that puppet is spot on! Looks exactly like the man. (His son is now king, but hé reigned when the movie came out)
I saw this in theaters when it came out. My friend my brother and I were laughing so hard our stomachs were hurting. What made it even funnier was an older lady brought two little kids and they left in a huff about 20 minutes into the movie. What did she expect the movie was rated R and it was by the guys who do South Park!!! The soundtrack is so awesome as well. One of the few movie soundtracks that I went out and bought after seeing the movie. I so needed this today Love you guys and love your channel. ❤❤❤
I was waiting for Samantha's reaction to the vomit scene. Knowing how she feels about that, I felt sorry for her but at the same time I was laughing so hard that I almost passed out too! Thank you Samantha for taking one for the fans! If you haven't seen them... Any chance of getting a reaction for either "Orgazmo" or "Cannibal the Musical" (both by Trey Parker and Matt Stone)? Your reactions are consistently among my favorites on RUclips, so I just wanted to say thanks for doing Team America!
The puppets were 22 inches tall and took 4 people to puppet one at once. The short on Matt Damon's character in the movie is that the puppet came back looking mentally slow, so they just made Matt Damon in the movie appear to have brain damage or not all there by making him say his own name.
This movie is one of the most fun I've ever had in a movie theater. I saw it with my friend and we were the only ones in the theater except for an old couple. A few minutes into the movie the old people left because it wasn't really their type of humor so we had the theater to ourselves. I laughed hysterically throughout the movie and we still quote this frequently because the quotes are amazing. I love how stupid and fun this movie is.
Alec Baldwin actually did not have a problem with it, he actually offered to do his own voice, but it was done by voice actor Maurice LaMarche from Animaniacs. You might see comments saying it was Alec Baldwin, it wasn't. Everyone for the most part liked it, except Michael Moore (somewhat), they just don't like him.
I love how the puppeteers said they could make the fight scenes look super awesome, but Trey and Matt basically went ‘Nah, it’s way funnier if it looks crappy’.
Which I think is crap, if they were so good they wouldn’t be so hard to handle and take a hours to shoot a scene
We can see what they can do with fight scenes by watching the fights at the end of the movie vs the actors
Comedic genius

the whole movie is amazing, and the shot I still like most is them going "We stopped the terrorists" while being surrounded by the destruction they made far worse
I remember watching this in the theater and being blow away at how vile and hilarious it was hahahaahaa
“No, I can’t warn you”
Best reaction channel. End of story.
one of the best moments that reoccurs in this movie is when Matt Damon says "Matt Damon" in that flat tone!
One of my fave comedies of all time. Holds up just as well now, almost 20 years later. Glad you enjoyed!
Supermarionation

This is by far my favorite reaction to one of my favorite movies. You two had me laughing even harder than when I first saw it 😂... you're my people, lol!
Also! The comedic timing on "Tim... Martin... Matt Damon" was perfect!
A blast from the past - *MURICA, FK YEAH!* I’m laughing so hard I woke my dog up 🤣
The first time I saw the Hans Brix shark tank scene I hadn’t laughed that hard in my entire life. I was on the floor.
I love how they didn't try to be perfect with the puppets. Their awkwardness and the strings made it even more funny. Such a great memorable movie!
Matt Damon is very happy with this role and is very happy to react to it for his fans.
There are actually two interviews in which Matt Damon tells how he feels about his role in this movie. In the first one he was rather irritated, but in the second one he said the director was a genius. :D
Matt Damons most convincing role 🤣
His best performance since Euro Trip
😂😂
True fact- Matt Damon is MUCH smarter in this movie than in real life 😃
@@hughjorg4008great movie and so good Robin Williams won a Oscar for his role so great acting too
Get that man an Oscar!!!
The speech on the three types of people is the most profound and insightful moment in cinematic history. Socrates, Shakespeare and Freud never understood humanity as well as this.
This film is one of only 2 I've ever re-watched immediately after seeing for the first time. It is brilliant!
“Like Harambe!” Aw man. That hurts . I live in Cincinnati and have had a membership to our historic zoo for decades . That was a sad sad day.
Vomit scene was too good! Your reactions made it even funnier 😂😂😂
I haven't seen this in years. I am crying laughing. What a great movie.
"There's so much!"
"It's, like, spraying!"
Easily the funniest vomit scene ever (Family Guy ipecac is 2nd place). It just keeps going, and when Gary starts sputtering and shaking I can't stop laughing 🤣🤣🤣
Shakes so hard that one of the strings breaks.
I loved this reaction vid. Excellent editing and no flat spots. Nice work!
I absolutely love the detail and Care they put in the movie. When F.A.G. is talking to the summit of world leaders, you can see the king of Belgium in the front. I am Belgian and that puppet is spot on! Looks exactly like the man. (His son is now king, but hé reigned when the movie came out)
You are correct. I've seen "Rent" and this movie's rendition, "Lease" is basically the exact same.
I forgot how long the throw up scene was lol
This was right after 9-11, so HELL YEA it was super patriotic!!
AMERICA FUK YEA!!!
27:38 - Sean Penn is screaming 'Qa'pla!' meaning 'Success!' in Klingon (from Star Trek)
A puppet getting sick is everything I never knew I needed to see. :D
The puppets were 22 inches tall and took 4 people to puppet one at once. The short on Matt Damon's character in the movie is that the puppet came back looking mentally slow, so they just made Matt Damon in the movie appear to have brain damage or not all there by making him say his own name.
"I'm sure its almost over. "
Gary vomits for 10 more minutes.
Bahahaha!!!!
So glad you are seeing this unsung gem. The effort that went into making it was phenomenal.
FINALLY.
Man, we never saw Schmitty laugh so hard. That was great!
6:22 "Everything's so patriotic." 😊 Now I'm looking forward to her reaction to 'the' song. 😂😂
Unsurprisingly, Sean Penn hated it and wrote a lengthy letter of complaint to Trey & Matt. Sums him up, really.
it's not so much that they don't like Michael Moore as this was payback for the cartoon part in Bowling for Columbine.
To be fair, Michael Moore is an incredibly unlikable guy
@@Henrik_Holstno, they've repeatedly stated that Michael Moore is on the list of celebrities they genuinely dislike.
@@passingrando6457 which they only do due to the cartoon part of Bowling for Columbine. Up to that incident they had zero disagreements.
