@@skarlottt I agree! I found myself getting excited that he was watching Joker because I wanted to watch it again, but it’s so heavy a movie that I needed someone to watch it with me! 🥰
Morgan Freeman's monologue on miracles is one of the most poignant and heartwarming speeches in cinema and makes me well up with tears every single time.
Alex Hefner isnt the Dylan is in Trouble we deserve, but he's the Dylan is in Trouble we need anytime Dylan isn't posting videos. (aka most of the time 😂)
There was a quote attributed to Marcus Aurelius. "Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods but unjust, then you should not want to worship them." Always stuck with me.
I'm an Atheist but I LOVE this movie. It has a wonderful message and while I'm not a person of faith I can still appreciate the life lesson being taught.
I can understand people that follow false Gods or like anything non true… From our nature we seek God, our Creator. Some people are trapped in false thought but anyway. I could never understand the atheist point of view… Our universe is complex and perfect! You cannot believe that all this perfection happened by an accident!
This movie and Liar Liar are by far my two favorite movies of his. I feel like they both have similar messages/themes. A supernatural event happens to the main character to help them see how much they are hurting the most important person/people in their lives by how self absorbed they are.
Paste is thicker than glue. It doesn't come out of the squeeze bottle; you dip and apply it with a brush. You can make a rudimentary adhesive paste with flour and water. Just thought you might wanna know.
I love Jim Carrey's comedy, but when it is intertwined with an actual genuine, heartfelt story, it just hits on a different level. This movie does it, as does Liar Liar, so if you haven't watched that yet, I know you'd love it.
Bruce Almighty, Evan Almighty & Liar Liar are all absolutely wonderful films with similar messages, absolutely adore them. SO GOOD! Both Jim Carrey & Steve Carell are fantastic in them.
This movie profoundly changed the trajectory of my life. I was trying so hard to fit in the box that others chose for me that I lost my authentic self. The part where God tell Bruce that he brings joy to others by being himself and that what he was literally made for resonated with me so deeply. I was able to reclaim my self identity and eventually break free from the cult that I belonged to.
This movie is SO underrated! Despite it being a slapstick comedy, it really delves into deep things like religion, faith, fulfillness, and love in such a meaningful way. I really love the way God is portrayed. I love the relationship between Grace (what a perfect name for her) and Bruce, and I love the message. Thanks for this reaction!
I haven't watched this in SO LONG! I'm no longer a practicing Catholic but to me the message from this film goes beyond religion. It's about people taking care of each other and wanting what's best for others more than just yourself. What a great reaction! Thanks for picking this one, Alex.
Morgan Freeman is an absolute legend. Fun little story for you guys. My mom actually met him in person at a charity event here in Virginia. The words he said were, “I’m not here to cause a scene. I’m just spreading awareness.” and then he walked away
20:21 Fun Fact, the elder extras in the waaay back is my exes Grandfather and his wife Sheri, he did extra work back in the day and was even the old guy in the Tuxedo in the music video for System of Down's Aerials, and was in the food court scene in Bad Santa. When I asked him what it was like to work with Jim Carrey he said he was one of the kindest people to work with in Hollywood.
One of Carrey's best! I remember seeing this in the theater with my family and that bit with Steve Carell, I literally thought I was going to die, I couldn't stop laughing long enough to take in air. Comedy gold!
1/4 of the way through and this is gold. we need more Jim Carrey movies and maybe even Evan Almighty after, would be interesting to see how they hold up against each other after all these years.
6:14 Sweeps are time periods when television stations/networks typically schedule programming designed to attract a larger than usual audience. The concept of sweeps began in 1954 when Nielsen began mailing out one-week TV diaries to households to fill-out what programs they were watching. Originally, diaries were mailed and collected in the northeast households before sweeping across the country to the western markets.
more importantly, however, those ratings were then used to determine how much money the network could charge for commercial airtime. The higher the ratings, the more they could charge. This is why sweeps weeks traditionally had better than normal programming scheduled, to bring in the viewers and boost the ratings.
Typically Sweeps period would be in November, February and May. It’s part of the reason why the Super Bowl was moved from the end of January to the beginning of February.
Fun Fact! In the outtakes, Catherine Bell (Susan) couldn't stop laughing during the Evan torture scene so in the final cut they couldn't use any of the wideshots as you notice is only him in frame during each gag after the promoter part.
Such an amazing movie! As a Christian, this movie is incredibly entertaining and has a wonderful message about the pitfalls of selfishness and pride.
