Very useful and balanced review (and lovely photos as always). Fujinon XF50mmF2 ranks highly among Fujifilm's most sharp and optically perfect lenses so that's a high reference point. Being one of their more affordable lenses it also represents some of the best value available from Fujifilm. That is really tough to beat.
However, bokeh looks very nice on the cheap Yongnuo lens to my eyes so that's probably its strongest point besides low price and autofocus seemingly on par with Fuji. Personally I don't mind the lack of an aperture ring (the first lens I got for my X-T3 was the Viltrox 85mm so I got used to it then). Time will tell how much of a problem the unprotected USB port is going to be but at least it's convenient that you can update the firmware with the lens on the camera. Not a bad budget option and it seems to have some character which will suit certain types of photography but as you mention in terms of optical perfection and maximum detail it obviously can't match the XF50mmF2.

Thanks for watching. That pretty much sums it up. The XF 50mm f/2 is a great little lens that's hard to beat for image quality at that price. This one is definitely interesting, though, and the images that come from it are just fine for a lot of uses.

A nice fair review. Great images too (proof that the tog makes the shot and can deal with the lens constraints). I guess these kind of lenses are for those that are really forking out their savings to get the body they want and have run out of coin for the glass. It's good that this is an option for some.

Thanks for watching! It's a great little lens for the price, to be sure. I think it really depends on how demanding you are as to whether or not it will be a good fit for you. I think there will be plenty of people out there who will be perfectly happy with it.

Informative review. I appreciate you referring to the Fujifilm XF50F2. Other reviewers of the Yongnuo fail to mention it, even if they have reviewed it themselves in the past. The Fujifilm XF50F2 is on the list of lenses that will resolve the 40MP HR sensor. Considering its only around $325 used, its way more future proof. Its a great focal length if you hate ugly foregrounds.

Thanks for watching. It seemed only natural to compare the two. They're essentially the same lens at different price points. I routinely use the 50mm f/2 for some ecommerce work that I do and the YN lens wouldn't be fit for purpose because of the softer corners. In all other respects, it's a great budget option if you don't mind going off-brand.

Thanks, as always, for watching. Nothing masterful about these images. Just enjoying the world and capturing it the way I see it. :)

Thank you for this review, I’ll stick with my XF50 !
Any chance you may do a review of the GFX100II and/or of the GF55 f1.7 in the future? I’d be curious to know your opinion on those!

Thanks for watching. The 100 II is not really on my radar, but I do currently have the 55mm on loan from a friend and will be sharing a little about it in an upcoming video. I haven't quite had enough experience with it for a full review, but there might be some useful info in that upcoming video for you. Keep a lookout for that in a few weeks' time.

    Great video as always!
I really like the bokeh on this lens. It looks like it has some field curvature (?), so the bokeh falls off in the corners like the XF 35mm 1.4. You can see it pretty well at 4:21. For this price, I do think it's really worth considering, as even a used XF 50mm f2 can be quite a bit more expensive.
Also, I hope you'll come out with a review for the Viltrox 75mm :)

Cheers, Andre. I also enjoy the bokeh from this lens. It's not to everyone's taste, but I'm a fan. 75mm review is pending... I've had the lens for nearly a year now... I just use it a lot less than I thought I would.

Hey is your continuous mode working with this lens? I have a 2sec blackout after every picture I take

That does sound odd! I never had that problem. Perhaps check if there's a firmware update out there or check the list of supported bodies.

I love options but this lens is so ugly I simply couldn't consider it 💀

the Viltrox 56mm 1.7 looks like it wipes the floor with this

It's a very different lens, but if you're talking about image detail, the Viltrox is a better choice.
