I am currently on a seven-week journey through england, bali, seychelles, and mauritius and i am carrying the fuji 16mm f/1.4, 33mm f/1.4, and the 90mm f/2 and shooting portraits and landscape. it’s an experiment as normally one of the three would be a zoom but i just don’t love my tamron 17-70…yet…we’ll see how it goes but i do love these lenses.
For me it is X-E3 + 35 f1.4 and that's all I take as I don't like to think about changing lenses. Small, compact, never got a problem even in a small rain. Great soft, glow rendering, good for lowlight. Good enough bokeh and subject separation. Cons are slow AF and aperture ring could be less loose.
@@scotttate1400 Ha, I sold 35 f1.4, now 27 f2.8 is glued to my X-E4 but I am buying 56 f1.2 now to see if 27 + 56 combo will be good. If not then I will buy 35 f1.4 again.
For compact travel with range and options, I found the 16 2.8 to be a lot of fun, together with the 30mm f2.8, also light and compact with no minimum focus distance for some details and the samyang 75 1.8 at the long end - zero vigbetting, zero distorion and no nice rendering. All lightweight, all compact. But since I got the x100vi and the WCL, thats all changed. I don't have the TCL, because I like to use it at 23mm wherever possible. But I can mount the wcl and have a 19mm day or crop in to 35mm apsc on the 40mp sensor. Often for a light carry day those are the 3 focal lengths it's nice to have to hand. That's a great little kit! I've been struggling to find the kit I'm going to take on a 3 month trip through China, Japan and South Korea. I think the best will be to keep it minimal and light like you mentioned, but for big trips with lots of different photo opportunities, it's a bit hard to choose to do that At first I thought on the 10-24, 16-55, 70-300, 18 1.4 , 33 1.4 and 56 1.2. But the more I think about it, the more I want to simplify. I'll drop the 56mm and carry the rest. For landscape focused days, I'll carry the zooms. For street focused days, I'll carry the 2 primes. And for light travel around, I'll carry the 16-55 + 33 1.4.
I have two sets of lens for my XE4. The kit 15mm - 45mm plus the Fuji 18mm F2 for when Im on a date or family gathering, or the manual lens Voigtlander 27mm F2 for solo travelling.
The Fuji 35mm f2 was my first ever prime purchased years ago and I still love it. Currently my other two are the fantastic Voightlander 27mm f2 Ultron pancake lens and Sigma 18-50 f2.8 which is razor sharp, small and light.
Going on a trip in a week and I'm bringing my X-T5 + xf 23mm f2 + ttartisan 35mm f1.14. The 23mm is my all around lens, it's on my camera 99% of the time. However, I like playing around with vintage/vintage style manual focus lenses too, so that's what the ttartisan lens is coming along for.
I like zooms over primes because I don't like changing lenses that much. My walk around on the X-S20 or my X-T5 is the 16-55 2.8. I have the 10-20 in my bag and the unheralded but sharp 15-45. The Viltrox 13mm is also handy. I do have the primes you mentioned but the zooms work for me. I don't shoot in the long tele range.
I also love the TTArtisan 27mm! Frankly it lives on my X-S10. I just got home from Scotland and also brought the Fuji 16-80 f4 and Canon FD 80-200 f4L, which is pretty much the perfect combo for what I shoot. Well, I'd really like the Fuji 70-300 if I'm honest haha, for the extra reach, but that's not quite in the budget yet...
Love the 18mm 1.4. I was really into shooting it in the recording studio in low light situations. The one thing I will say is that now that I’ve been using the voigtlander 27mm I’m realizing that I like a little bit more of a characterful lens. 18mm is just so crisp that sometimes it can feel clinical. Still highly recommended, not too huge, really fun iPhone like focal length, great modern performance.
Fuji 23 and 35 f/2 and the Viltrox 56 f/1.4 for portraits on my X-T3. I carry those with a dummy battery and an Anker Powercore in my pocket for the X-T3. Keeps my slingbag light and i have enough battery power for over a month of use.
Great video, I agree with all of these and carry the 35mm and the sigma 56mm myself. I have the 23mm f2 but I’m ready to move it on as I always find it a little too wide for most of what I shoot and always find myself cropping if I use it for street.
i have the sigma 56 for fuji. its really the best out of best in terms of price and usability in 56mm. am hesitant regarding ttartisans 27mm as i heard many bad reviews about it. Thank you for your input!
I LOVE my 35mm F2. It has been my go to on my X-E4. I have been considering picking up that TT Artisans 27mm though, seems like a solid package for the price.
Hi Jay Liked your video - (1) I'm primarily a stills photographer, and like to travel light. Usually with just 2 lenses; the original XF18/F2 & XF35/F1.4, good examples of which are available in good condition S/H, for much less than the new XF35/F2 & ridiculously priced XF27/F2.8(WR). (2) For a time I increased the travel lenses to 3; XF16/F2.8, XF27/F2.8 (MK1) & XF50/F2, but this gave me less joy in use than the previous 2 lens in outfit. (3) When I'm not travelling light, &/or, when feeling lazy I'll use my X-H2 (as opposed to my X-Pro2), with XF16-80/F4 zoom, (together with when required XF50-140/F2.8). (4) Recently I've changed my gear, feeling that an XF18/F1.4 (WR) or XF23/F1.4(WR) used with the X-H2 (with the 40mp sensor) would allow for some serious "cropping" should the situation require. I chose the 23mm option, but I'm not completely satisfied. (5) The problem is that the latest Fujinon F/1.4 (WR) lenses are just too big & heavy for travel/street photography, and don't balance so well with the X-Pro2 & smaller Fujifilm cameras - you might as well consider going full frame! (6) For similar reasons, I would not consider buying the reportedly excellent "pro-line" Viltrox, 13/F1.4, 27/F1.2 (I have borrowed this lens for an afternoon shoot, with my X-H2), & 75/F1.2, none of which "rock my boat" for street/travel photography. (7) For light weight photography you have already chosen the gem - Artisan27/F2.8 - I've only tried it once, and was blown away by the results - for the money!
Hi there! Canon M200 user here... Not much to pick from, but i'm trully enjoying my 22mm f2 together with the Ttartisan 50mm f2. Great little combo for travels!
In my opinion the 27 and 35 mill are to close to each other. I prefer 18+35 mill or 25+50 mill and use in this case my Pixel 6a for wide angle shots. And yes - this last option ist good enough for private use(for me).... Don't want to carry to much lenses around.
I have 3 lenses on my XT-3 and XT-1 : 35mm f2 Fuji, 16mm f1.4 Fuji, 50-140mm Fuji. I use more often the 35mm and the 50-140mm. And I use to photography mainly gigs…Anyway I must go travelling in 6 months so I wondered What lenses I will brought.
Same 35mm f2 and totally agree with your statement. Latetly i bought the sigma 10-20mm. Great ultra wide shots possible. But I have to change my style a little. Finally the 55-200 is always on my xt2. Maybe I Upgrade to the 70-300mm. Still travel friendly
My list is close to yours...XC35f2, Sigma56, Viltrox13, and the XF18-55 for those undecisive days. I've stopped myself from purchasing any 27 because of how close it is to the 35 in both size and focal range.
I only have a xt 20 with the sigma 56mm and the tt artisan 27mm and I will wait for a more versatile setup that you can carry anywhere. Just inexpensive, light and much character. I love them both. For me, I primarily capture the life of my friends and me, the perfect setup.
Get the 18mmF1.4 and you'll do away with the TT27mm. Need wider, Vil13mmF1.4. Tighter, 35mmF2 or Sig56mmF1.4. My own travel lenses are Vil13mmF1.4 + Fuj18mmF1.4 + Fuj33mmF1.4 for most conditions but if I can only carry ONE, it's the Sig18-50mmF2.8.
Thank you for this video. If I’m taking three primes they are the Fuji chrons 23, 35, and 50mm lenses. When traveling light it is the kit 18-55mm lens. It has all the focal lengths I like. It is sharp and has OIS. Many of my bodies lack IBIS. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I am an old fart who learned photography in the 70s, so I prefer to have total control of the camera settings. Last year, I bought two Fuji cameras I love, an X-T30II and an X-E3. I took the T30II on a trip to Disney World in January (I should have taken the E3 for its size) and took four lenses, all TTArtisan, the 17mm, the 27mm, the 35mm, and the 50mm. Of all the lenses, the 27mm was my primary lens, and I used it in full automatic mode. I love that lens. I am looking forward to buying the 35mm AF lens from them. Great review; you earned a subscriber here. Best regards, and stay safe.
Thanks for sharing Luis - appreciate your contribution to the channel. Lovin that 27mm! Such a good lens for the price. Thanks for the Sub and stay tuned for more!
Another vote for the sigma 18-50. Great photo quality, incredible close focus and very light. I pair it with a 40 year old Leica 90mm with a Fuji adaptor.
Great informative video. I generally travel with my 18mm f/2 and 35mm f/2. Both are great lens. Thought of getting the Fuji 27mm 2.8 but still not available but now thinking of the 23mm f/2. I just love the f/2 series Fuji lenses. Always want to get the 56 or 90 but since I use XT-30II without in body stabilization so bit skeptical about long lenses. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Cheers!
I did own the Sigma 56 mm. This lens is much better than Sigma's 30 mm one. However, I ended up selling this lens after I found out that I tend to use much more often Fuji's 90 mm f2. I think the LM WR lenses are Fuji's best offer, and to me personally 18 mm 1.4 stands out because it's also a semi-macro lens and it's simply incredible. For a trip I would probably consider these lenses depending on a trip. 1. If I want to take pictures of birds - Fujinon 150-600 2. Fujinon 18 1.4 lm wr - the most versatile option in my opinion 3. Fujinon 33 1.4 lm wr - if I take portraits in the trip 4. Fujinon 27 2.8 - a little boring but so light that it's the main idea. 5. Fujinon 90 mm f2 - if I want a telephoto lens for my trip but I am not going to shoot birds.
@@Jay_Ducker it's incredible... 33 mm f1.4 is a benchmark lens in the Fuji system, but 18 mm f1.4 outperforms it in my opinion and has a more dreamy image look.
I returned my TTArtisans 27mm this week because the vignetting was a little too severe for me.. and I know it is (mostly) correctable via firmware update and post-processing... BUT TTArtisans does not support MAC OS for firmware updates. I do not have access to Windows OS so I was unable to update... left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth not knowing when (or if) I would be able to unlock the full potential of this budget beast.. Unfortunate as the titanium finish looked CLEAN on my DuraBlack XP3. Love my sigma 56, especially for the price... get a helios like fall off shooting portraits into wooded areas. Just ordered the Zeiss Tuoit 32 f1.8 as my ~50ish equiv. solution. Great video! Love the content, Cheers!
Did you use it with its lens hood? When I got mine I did and the vignetting was awful. Removing the hood got it down to more than acceptable levels for me. There again I do like a bit of a vignette and often add it in post. I kept the hood for use on the TTartisans 35mm f1.4 where it works very well indeed.
@@richardhale9664 I did use the lens hood... hmmm.. that's strange. Why even include it if it's going to get in the way of the lens ? 🤔 No harm though, returned... put the money towards the 18mm f2. Liking that lens a lot so far (pancake-ISH and does not sit between my 23 and 35). Cheers!
For me at the moment it's very similar on my X-E4 and newly acquired X-S20. The TTArtisan 27mm, the XC 35mm and the Viltrox 56mm. Seems we have a very similar outlook and budget. :)
Here is my lightweight and expendable, Fuji prime lens travel kit: Fuji X-Pro2 graphite mirrorless digital camera (second body optional) 23mm f/2 graphite Fujinon auto focus 12mm f/2 Rokinon manual focus or 12mm f/2.8 Zeiss Touit auto focus 55mm f/1.8 adapted Fujinon M42 screw mount manual focus lens with FotoDiox adapter If I thought I might need something longer, I would also take an adapted 135mm f/3.5 lens.
Thanks Jay for this inspiring video pal. I was surprised though (and curious of course) that you have both 27mm and 35mm in your bag when travelling. From your experience, what scenarios would you pick one of the two focal lenghts over the other? The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking at getting an in-betweener to slot alongside my 16mm f1.4 and 33mm f1.4. The perfect choice would have been the 23mm f1.4 LM WR but the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 is too tempting! But being a 27mm instead of a 23mm, I'm a bit anxious if the difference in field of view to the 33mm is negligible. Please can I have your thoughts? Thanks in advance! 🙂
Firstly, thank you, secondly you pose a good question. My initial reaction when reading your comment was to go for the 23 f1.4 but that Viltrox 27mm is very tempting. You may want to try renting and see how it suits you before making the purchase. For me, it's not all about focal length, it can be about performance in low light or weather sealing. A myriad of reasons but all personal to oneself
I got this lense when I bought my Fuji as a kit lense and was always wondering why I never fell in love with my Fuji images despite the fact their were sharp and had great colors… I always felt that my old canon entry level dslr had more magic results and the reason was indeed, that when i invested in canon 10 years ago, I bought quite good prime lenses. It was the BEST decision to invest in faster lenses again but for the Fuji. Really. It’s like a new camera, i wasted 2 years with the Fuji. The 18-55 is ok for video - even when it comes to travel stills, I’d rather use my iPhone. I love what i get with my prime lenses - even the old canon glass is awesome and works well with a cheap AF capable adapter! Invest in glass, you won’t regret it.
@@mareius I do mostly landscape. I rarely have any lens wide open; most of my images are around f8. I have some good Nikon lenses from the past which I've used with an adapter. I couldn't squeeze any magic out of those. Most of my prime lenses are just sitting on the shelf.
awesome lenses! I have the 23mm f2 which i really enjoy, but im thinking of getting the 35 f2 or the ttartisan 27mm. Both seem awesome for my photography!
I already have your 35 f2 and the Sigma 56. That Sigma has such creamy boka, superior to vitrox AND sharp! Am getting the fx33 F1.4 today for my T5 and selling my Fuji 35 f1.4 . maybe get that cheap pancake, mixed reviews here
Thanks for your video! This is such an important video. I use a XT-30 II and can't understand which lenses to buy. I currently own Fujinon 35mm F1/4 (love it) and the Sigma 18-50mm f2/8. Do you think its useful for me to get the Sigma you mention?
I have used those three lenses and they are great lenses to have in your bag .. BUT .. for the total price that you paid for those lenses and the combined weight of the three lenses, I found out that the Fujifilm 16-55mm f/2.8 gives me way better photos. The Fujifilm 16-55mm f/2.8 is a RED Badge lens which means it is in a totally different category and is Fuji's Premium line of lenses. You can 100% see the difference. And, the difference between a 1.4 and a 2.8 (on a premium lens) is barely noticeable. Furthermore, having one zoom lens on your camera means that you are always ready for whatever is in front of the camera.
I hear this... I've not owned the 16-55 f2.8 however I have been keeping my eye on one for some time. I just don't know how travel friendly it is considering, in terms of its interaction on the streets. It's not subtle like the three I've mentioned
@@Jay_Ducker Actually it is. At first I thought like you do but after using it, my perspective changed completely. But don’t let me try to change your mind … but I do think at least you should try it out … you’ll thank me later. Cheers
I have and enjoy the xf 35/2 except for horrible distortion in raw files (can be fixed in post but artificial correction which impacts framing and definition)
After many years with almost every Fuji lens, I have settled with the 35f2, 50f2 and the Viltrox 27f1.2. The 90mm f2 and 70-300 are never far from my bag though!
@@Jay_Ducker looking at getting something in the 27mm or 35mm spectrum. Also want to go and get some fully manual TTArtisan lenses, those are a fun play
Fujifilm 23mm f/2 - General purpose walkaround lens. This sits on the camera most of the time. Voightlander 27mm f/2 - If I want an extremely compact setup, especially on my X-Pro Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2 - Portraits or more subject focused photography
The cynic in me says you praise TTartisan 28mm AF lens because you want them to gift you more lenses. Less than f8 its vignetting is diabolical. I’ve tried to like it but can’t.
That's fair to think that but i do really like this lens for its pancake size and affordability. I traveled with this lens for 6 months and I used it a fair amount. It's not perfect but if i lose or break it, it won't bother me too much.
@ The good with this lens is its price, low weight, auto focus performance and moderately good sharpness. I can’t understand that most reviewers don’t seem to be bothered about the vignetting, perhaps I have a bad sample.

Thanks for sharing all this John! Really appreciate it and I’m sure others will do too. Plenty to chew on!
Hi there! Canon M200 user here... Not much to pick from, but i'm trully enjoying my 22mm f2 together with the Ttartisan 50mm f2.
Great little combo for travels!
Cool - thanks for sharing mate
In my opinion the 27 and 35 mill are to close to each other. I prefer 18+35 mill or 25+50 mill and use in this case my Pixel 6a for wide angle shots. And yes - this last option ist good enough for private use(for me).... Don't want to carry to much lenses around.
i just got my first fuji a xt5 with a 33mm f1.4 lens. probably i will get in couple of months the 18-50mm f2.8 sigma lens.
18mmf2 +XF35mm1.4 + Xf55-200mm for my surftravel photography. 18mmf2 + 35mm1.4 weekend/roadtrips. XF35mm1.4 if I could only use one lens forever.
Sigma 18-55 Fuji 27mm and Viltrox 13mm. For city pics especially at night I am loving the wide 13mm.
This comment is so underrated
Some nice shots there around Cork City, I pass those spots every day.
Agreed that kit lens is boss!
My new light travel set: xt50, xf16-50, and samyang 75 f1.8.
My must used lens on the X-S20 is the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 - so versatile.
I’ve haven't tried this lens but here good things. Sigma are great
Another vote for the sigma 18-50.
1. If I want to take pictures of birds - Fujinon 150-600
2. Fujinon 18 1.4 lm wr - the most versatile option in my opinion
3. Fujinon 33 1.4 lm wr - if I take portraits in the trip
4. Fujinon 27 2.8 - a little boring but so light that it's the main idea.
5. Fujinon 90 mm f2 - if I want a telephoto lens for my trip but I am not going to shoot birds.
I’m very interested in the 18mm f/1.4 !!!
@@Jay_Ducker it's incredible... 33 mm f1.4 is a benchmark lens in the Fuji system, but 18 mm f1.4 outperforms it in my opinion and has a more dreamy image look.
@@kalistratov_photos it's the next lens for sure
Returned my 27mm TTA lens a couple of weeks ago. Not anywhere near in quality as many youtubers were touting.
Any lens for background I want background info in my picture
Here is my lightweight and expendable, Fuji prime lens travel kit:
Fuji X-Pro2 graphite mirrorless digital camera (second body optional)
23mm f/2 graphite Fujinon auto focus
12mm f/2 Rokinon manual focus or 12mm f/2.8 Zeiss Touit auto focus
55mm f/1.8 adapted Fujinon M42 screw mount manual focus lens with FotoDiox adapter
If I thought I might need something longer, I would also take an adapted 135mm f/3.5 lens.
Niceeee thanks for sharing!!
@@Jay_Ducker Makes a lot of sense! Would definitely take your advice. Cheers pal!
Currently using the new 18-50 "kit" zoom. Happy with it for travel.
My weapon of choice: X-S20 + Sigma 10-18mm, Fuji 23mm, Sigma 56mm
awesome lenses! I have the 23mm f2 which i really enjoy, but im thinking of getting the 35 f2 or the ttartisan 27mm. Both seem awesome for my photography!
Go for it!
Just got the TT artisan 27mm it’s a great lens, might bring that lens with my Sirui 56mm
I already have your 35 f2 and the Sigma 56. That Sigma has such creamy boka, superior to vitrox AND sharp! Am getting the fx33 F1.4 today for my T5 and selling my Fuji 35 f1.4 . maybe get that cheap pancake, mixed reviews here
I am traveling to italy in 2 weeks. I will have with me my XT4, viltrox 13mm and 27mm.
Thanks for your video! This is such an important video. I use a XT-30 II and can't understand which lenses to buy. I currently own Fujinon 35mm F1/4 (love it) and the Sigma 18-50mm f2/8. Do you think its useful for me to get the Sigma you mention?
Glad it was helpful! Ummm possibly depends if you want a nice compact prime lens with a wide aperture
I love my 34mm 1.4 and 16-55 2.8 :) I just added 27mm but idk yet, I still love the 35mm I guess.
What’s your take on the 40mp resolution question for these less expensive lenses?
I take the 18mm f2,hugely underrated …..35 f1.4,just gorgeous ……50 f2 and the 90 f2…..
The first three fujifilm prime lens: xf 18mm f2.0, xf 35mm f1.4, xf 60mm 2.4, but I can travel only with the 18mm.
Love the old trio 🫶🏻
I have xe4 with fuji 27, 18, 8 and sigma 56. Thinking about fuji 90, but fhinking of part ex for a leica d lux 8
Cheers
@@CharlezRichard You're a bad influence on me Charlez haha
Hows a 1.4 same to a 2.8 lens? Even if premium?
Nowhere near in terms of bokeh of course @@ibrajimenez2098
I have and enjoy the xf 35/2 except for horrible distortion in raw files (can be fixed in post but artificial correction which impacts framing and definition)
Fair
Is there any problem with firmware updates of the TTArtisans 27mm autofocus lens when connected to a Mac computer?
I can`t beleave you still don´t have the Viltrox 27mm F1.2 PRO 😆, it´s the best X Mount lens ever built. With it you don´t need the 23 or the 35 mm
I'll check it out!
Excellent choice
Thanksss
How do the 55 1.4 and the 28 2.8 compare with the Fuji 56 1.2 and the Fuji 27 2.8?
I take only two lenses, 23mmf2 and 50mmf2. And my XPro3. And four batteries.
I have the 18mm f2 fixed to muy cam, the 23mm f2 for vas wheater AND i am un doubt abaout wich Lens for telephoto buy
After many years with almost every Fuji lens, I have settled with the 35f2, 50f2 and the Viltrox 27f1.2. The 90mm f2 and 70-300 are never far from my bag though!
Thats a nice setup - I'm quite keen to try some more Viltrox lenses. Love my 13mm
@@Jay_Ducker The 27mm is a killer lens for the price.
For me, it’s the 16 2.8, 23 2.0 and the 56 1.2.
23, 35 and 50 f2 or the 16, 35 and 56 (viltrox) f1.4
Cool
Switched to Fujifilm over 6 months ago, in purchase order:
- XF16mmF2.8 R WR
- XF50mmF2 R WR
- XF70-300mmF4-5.6 R LM OIS WR
Very nice - any more to add to the line up?
@@Jay_Ducker looking at getting something in the 27mm or 35mm spectrum. Also want to go and get some fully manual TTArtisan lenses, those are a fun play
@@SergioSchvezov Yes - i love my 35mm fully manual lens from TTArtisans
Fujifilm 23mm f/2 - General purpose walkaround lens. This sits on the camera most of the time.
Voightlander 27mm f/2 - If I want an extremely compact setup, especially on my X-Pro
Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2 - Portraits or more subject focused photography
Is th sigma wr.😊
Shoutout to the 13 milly villy 👏
I can't make this kind of video cause I never travel. All work, no play. 😢
