    6:02 Yasss thank you! People often forget that etiquette is there to guide you to be considerate, and be mindful of other people around you. Not just for you to show off. Some people use it like an offensive weapon to make feel people inferior, when the whole point of it is to make people around you comfortable by being kinder so not to offend. There might be a slight difference between good manners and ettiquette but it can make a huge difference!

    • @monmothma3358
      @monmothma3358 4 года назад +15

      That's how it *should* be, but some etiquette rules are more like habits. For example, I don't think it makes any difference to anyone if the bread plate is near the edge of the table or not. Or how you hold a champagne flute. I also think people should be allowed to have a bathroom break during a long formal dinner. It's rules like these, that don't make any sense, that are often used as weapons or means of power, too, because you can't deduce them. You have to be told.

    Well since 90% of the first Princess Diaries film was the misadventures of a 16 year old girl discovering that she is actually a princess, etiquette mistakes were legion. The mistakes by the people who were supposed to have been steeped in protocol however, are less forgivable.

    I think, the couples sitting together despite it being against etiquette has a simple reason:
    The film makers wanted to make sure that the audience understood, who belongs together by showing them next to each other. This is especially true, because the movie is made for children and teenagers, too, not only adults who are able to figure out how people are connected by listening to their conversations and hearing their names and stuff like that.

    "Mix" is a verb. "Mixture" is a noun. Wm. do not imitate the ways of uneducated nor untrained folks, no matter how much money or social rank they may have. Remember, Wm., money and social rank count for zero, rightness counts for all. Give heed to parts of speech.
    Every word began as one part of speech. In history, any deviation therefrom were a mistakin. For a mistakin to become commonplace does not make it to be any less a mistakin. The masses of folks have no authority to set standards. Only the best folks have the authority to set standards, and, then, only in accord with historical reality of origins of words.
    And remember, in gaugin bestness, money and social rank count zero. Only historical and logical accuracy count.

    Ok, so Mia’s grandmother is a widow in first movie ( Queen Dowger) so she isn't suppose to wear a tiara?

      You aren’t really supposed to wear a tiara unless it’s a white tie event-this one was a black tie event. Of course, in modern times we tend to think of Queens/Princesses as wearing tiaras all the time, but that’s not the case. Tiaras aren’t a Royal thing, it’s just a type of headdress many Royal women like to wear.

    On the objection to only 2 glasses, I believe this is because the Princess is a minor and not allowed to drink alcohol. I noticed the Queen of Genovia’s setting (and the other adult’s settings) have three glasses. In real life, how would royalty set a table for a person who will not be drinking alcohol? Not only are the issues with underage attendees, but I am certain there has been a history of inviting people whom the host knows does not drink alcohol and, if they are in recovery, should not be awkwardly tempted to drink by the placement of wine glasses at his or her setting.

    I doubt he'll see this, but just in case, I have two questions: 1) regarding the rule about married women wearing tiaras - would that include widows? and 2) what's the reasoning behind seating couples apart?

    • @irmar
      @irmar 2 года назад +1

      I know about the second one. It is because couples live together all day every day, and how much would they have to say to each other? Or if they are freshly married and very much in love, they would make a little cocoon and isolate themselves. In a social gathering, the goal is to mingle and make acquaintances, and hear new, different things and perspectives.
