The word "iconic" has been watered down to a ridiculous degree lately, but this woman truly deserves the label.
i agree 100%
Big facts
Yes definitely she deserves that title.
100% right
Indeed!!
"Mr. Disney asked me", what a flex hahaha. She's an absolute legend!!
He even delayed it because she was pregnant!
hahahaha
She really is 👍
I literally can’t believe she not once mentioned her role as The Queen in Shrek when talking about her performances in animated films. It’s so iconic.
Probably because it’s made by dreamworks, Disney’s nemesis 😂😂
She was the Queen??? God I'm learning so much haha
@@hannejanssens718 😂😂😂
she might not have remembered that she did sherk or maybe it wasnt worth mentioning because it was only a small role in the movies they can only fit so much in maybe they didnt have that much time to mention the movies that she didnt go over in this video.
Omg I agree
Her voice broke a little bit when she talked about Christopher Plummer and I felt like crying... Julie is such a warm, talented, elegant, and wholesome human being...we should aspire to be more like her.
when?
@@charlotteevans7868 around minute 7:31 to 7:45 you can hear her voice kind of breaking a bit
yeah i noticed it too... that's so sad
The way she compliments all her co-stars is so classy.
I'm always in awe. She's humble and she always crediting everyone else! So generous!
Even her ex. Honest and classy right there.
There's not a bad bone in her body
Definitely classy
@@AndreinaGarbanYes! I have noticed that before too, not only in this interview.
Imagine your first play being a lead on Broadway, and your first film being a lead for Disney.
Legend. Icon.
Jodie Comer does the same nowadays
Interestingly, Julie Andrew’s wanted to do “My Fair Lady” for Jack Warner. But he was concerned about her lack of movie acting and decided to go with Audrey Hepburn instead. Not getting “My Fair Lady” is what made her available for “Mary Poppins,” and she wound up earning the Oscar for it.
Also interesting, there is a group of stars who have EGOT - an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. Somehow, Julie Andrew’s has two Emmys, three Grammys, and one Oscar but no Tony award despite playing Eliza Doolittle for as long as she did.
And Walt Disney himselffff asking u to star in the movjee?!?!
She was nominated for a Tony for Victor Victoria but turned it down because no one else in cast nominated. That is why she is missing her Tony.
Not sure why she never got one for My Fair Lady.
She saved disney, she’s the reason they becsme iconic.
Like the late Christopher Plummer said , It’s almost impossible not to fall in love with Julie Andrews.
I think Christopher Plummer was right. Julie Andrew's is a lovely and gracious lady. She is a class act.
I don’t doubt it…all her roles it is like she is talking directly to YOU,and nobody else in the room.I feel like I know her.
Aw
@@banterjCouldn't agree more.
I had a terrible crush on my third grade music teacher, who I thought looked like Julie Andrews. And that was the beginning of my love of music.
Just hearing her voice makes me want to cry happy tears. It's the sound of childhood for so many. It feels like a warm, weighted blanket, covering you and protecting you. You feel very safe in that sound. What a gem.
Wow, that is so true 🥹
There will never be another Julie Andrews! She represents everything that was good and wholesome in my childhood 💕
I agree
Anne Hathaway was did this for me
Yes and up till adulthood too!! 💗
this ^^^^
Absolutely! ❤️
I still get chills every time Julie Andrews sings the opening line of “The Sound of Music.” Truly a living legend
Me too!!! I love this lady so much. She’s truly amazing
Same! I almost teared up
A epic
me too! for some reason, I thought I was going to cry!
I love her. She is such a classy lady whom I would love to sit down and have a cup of tea with. The stories she could tell. I get so happy when I hear her sing on Mary Poppins and the Sound of Music. I get chills. Like a few a you, I get a bit emotional with tears of joy. She just makes me smiles. ❤️
Does everyone else also feel like she’s your grandma? She always brings me instant comfort when she talks ❤️
Yes, same!!
I've always said she's my adoptive grandma 🤣
Omg same! ❤
not my grandma, but definitely my mom!! ❤
She is everyone's nanny. She truly is a treasure. There will never be another
Julie Andrews is a walking talking piece of art history. My goodness, the talent, the class, intelligence, and success. I would love to hear her talk more about being a woman in the industry. I hope Hollywood offers here more and more roles. We need as much of her as we can get. She’s a legend and people adore her.
I recommend you find Dame Julie Andrews' autobiographies. I believe there will be at least one more and I hope she addresses what you hope to see as do I; "being a woman in the industry."
Give her some consideration! She does not need to be pressured after her long life!
This woman is a living legend, we must protect her at all costs. She is my absolute idol and is probably alot of other people's too ❤️🤩
💯💯💯💯
💯💯💯
She’s an INTERNATIONAL TREASURE
The sound of music is my favourite movie and I have such good memories attached to it. Julie Andrews got me into theatre. It is because of her performance in TSOM that I watched Mary poppins and My fair lady. Then I got into theatre productions. I’ll never be able to thank her enough for that.
So true, I adore her. I just think she is the most enchanting woman.
I met her once as a kid. I grew up in a family of electricians in the Hamptons so celebrities to me just meant parasites in my town but Julie Andrews was the exception.
My brother was a huge Mary Poppins fans and my dad had a job working on her house so we got up early and went with him. I volunteered to help the maid tend to the garden since Julie Andrews was asleep. When she came out, she had this aura about her that was just so welcoming. My brother got extremely nervous and star struck. He hid in my dad's truck and she was kind enough to wait for him to be comfortable enough to come out and say hi.
Little known fact, she's actually written 2 books. One was quite popular which was The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodgles and the other was Mandy. She happened to have a special collected edition of both of them with artwork of a girl that looked remarkably like I did tending to a garden. She signed it to me and I always considered that to be such a thoughtful gift.
Julie Andrews, in the off chance that you read this, I was that weirdo that gave you the cactus instead of flowers and I still use our meeting as a standard for treating others with patience, respect, and kindness. You're in a league of your own!
Thank you for sharing your memories meeting Julie Andrews. ❤️
I loved The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles!! Such an underrated YA fantasy.
This is so sweet. I love the amount of detail you put in this post especially since this was in a non show biz setting so it really speaks to the genuineness in her as a person ❤️
♡♡♡♡♡♡
Your story is every bit as wholesome as she is. Thank you for sharing.
Sometimes I forgot how long Andrews has been around and it's incredible to see her touch so many generations with her voice, her talent, her charisma, and advice. Truly a Queen and master of her craft.
This made my day...I really love how she calls what she does "a craft." Nobody speaks of the craft of acting or the craft of singing..or even the craft of learning...she is so wonderful
You should listen to Al Pacino's long form interviews. Very similar.
The upmost respect for Julie Andrews. She is an icon and a living legend to many, may her career continue for years to come
*utmost

@@th0m4s229 sorry
Upmost? Nick miller is that you?

This actually looks right, instead of actors in their early 20's already recapping their careers. Julie is a living legend

I noticed that too!!! wtf lol
@@alyseh9539 Thank you
She has to have the most comforting voice there ever was.
Her voice is just so completely unique you could hear her talking in a crowd far away and recognize it immediately
Just amazing
I love that they let her discuss other movies besides Sound of Music and Mary Poppins!! Love those movies, but she has done sooo much more than that
Saying she was proud of how hard she worked on a film that wasn't a success? That's going to stick with me all week. Such an incredible attitude.
The sound track of the origianl broadway cast ot Camelot is worth buying. Not only for Julie, but to hear Robert Goulet chew the scenery as Lancelot.
Could you make “the long version”? I want to hear Julie Andrews talk about each image on the timeline. She so lovely, articulate, and positive. I need more of her ❤️❤️❤️
She did talk about each image on the timeline. The trouble is that there are so many other movies she made that are NOT on the timeline!! That is the sad part of this video.
Read her biographies
Yeah, we really need her thoughts on Tooth Fairy.
Yes please!!
One of my favorite movies is The Americanization of Emily. Well worth watching! I’d love to hear her thoughts on that.
I don't want to be in a world without Julie Andrews
4:04 As we expected: Julie Andrews, practically perfect in every way ❤
She's just so open about her struggles, her divorce, her flaws, etc.
I just love her...
Who would want to divorce her?
I’m loving all the Julie content we’re getting lately. She’s an icon and I hope she’ll be with us for many more years to come.
she is a queen in her own right.
Is anyone else getting emotional watching her talk about her life? There something really sentimental here, almost like hearing your parent talk about their life ❤️
julie talking about mary poppins and princess diaries literally drove me to tears. those movies were a massive part of my childhood and it’s so sweet to hear what she thinks about being apart of those movies!
She’s not the Queen of Genovia. She is queen of queens. If I wanted someone to narrate my life it would be Dame Julie Andrews.
Still baffled she was in a superhero movie as the Karathen in Aquaman. Seeing the creature go into battle and being so badass I really thought you wouldn’t want to be on the wrong side of Julie Andrews. She is irreplaceable.
She will always be an icon.
And she's also Queen Lillian in Shrek lol
Julie Andrews is practically perfect in every way.
The role of Mary Poppins was once considered for Angela Lansbury, and similarly Julie Andrews actually was considered for Mrs. Potts before Lansbury did that herself!
Notice how gracious and grateful she is. She says I was fortunate enough! This would never be said by actors nowadays! She is so humble without putting herself down! I hope to be like this in many years time! You shaped my childhood and will shape my adulthood!
Walt Disney waited for Julie when she was pregnant cause only she could be Mary Poppins,,,THAT'S ICONIC
"Be ready. Do your homework." is such a succint and good advice in life really. There will be surprises, of course, but if you put yourself in a position where you at least do the bare minimum you can hurdle that surprise quite easily.
She is the literal definition of class. A true lady
I remember the actor playing Jeremiah in The Princess Diaries giving an interview and talking about how Julie Andrews could say anything and make it sound regal-and he's right! Julie Andrews is such a charming woman, and in many ways was one of the voices of my childhood. What a gem!
I would love it if Julie would narrate audiobooks. I love her voice, so warm and soothing and beautiful!
She’s narrated both her autobiographies… definitely worth the listen!!
She is actually the off screen narrator of "Enchanted"!
Imagine having this career. She is everything.
She reminds me so much of my Grandmother who recently passed away. Seeing her mannerisms is like seeing a glimmer of her again. A lifetime fan of Julie.
Your grandmother sounded like an amazing woman. I can't say that about my grandmother. Mine is still alive. And while I love her. She is a very toxic person.
I feel the same way Arianna!! She reminds me so much of my grandma
Same here guys
Julie Andrews is universally adored for all the right reasons. Her career has already spanned 7 decades! I'm just grateful she still wants to share her talent ❤️
Hard to believe she is 86 years old. Such a truly "loverly" person.
I’m sad she didn’t mention her role Nanny in Eloise at the plaza! I loved those movies and I kind of feel that Julie Andrews raised me in a way. Like an honorary grandma. So much love for her ❤️
She was nanny??? Wow, Mary Poppins and The Sound Of Music were my childhood but I also watched Eloise At The Plaza quite a few times (it actually taught me the word fioncé lol). How did I not realise that was also her
I was hoping someone would comment this!! She was also in Eloise at Christmastime. She was the perfect Nanny
She was amazing in Eloise!
Omg I thought I was the only person who considered her their honorary grandmother lol
Same! i love that movie and eloise at christmastime is a classic. im sad they are not on disney+. but she did a great job of being the nanny just like the little girl did a good job on eloise. although i did hear that the little girl that played eloise never broke character even after the cameras stopped rolling on set.
The way would all eat up a third Princess Diaries movie 🍿 🙌🏼
I believe there IS going to be a third one!! 🎉
@@jennifercooper3846 I heard that Julie Andrews said no to doing it though. Makes me so very sad, I adore her!
Eight years ago, when my daughter was 6, we took her to Disneyland for the first time. You would think she requested that we see all the princesses right? No, not at all. A couple of her favorites, but what blew me away was her telling me how excited she was to meet Mary Poppins. It caused me some anxiety, as I didn’t know if Mary Poppins even made appearances in Disneyland. Luckily, it turned out that she did, and I have a picture of my little daughter with a huge smile on her face, holding hands with Mary and Bert.
Over the years, we’ve watched many Julie Andrews movies and my daughter has also realized that Mary Poppins is a fictional character. But to this day, she is still a huge Julie Andrews fan ❤️
She's 86. I can't believe it. She just doesn't get old
As someone who loves children and works with them, Mary Poppins is one of my heroes. Even when picking my bag to carry, I wanted my bag to feel like my own Mary Poppins bag! Talking to children, you notice that Mary doesn't talk down to them either. I do not believe in it as well. Treat them how you expect them to behave! May I always hold magic in my heart for the younger parts of humanity ♥️ Thank you Ms Julie!!!
Mary Poppins has been one of my comfort movies for my entire life. It’s such a lovely movie that never gets old, I can watch it millions of times in a row. I absolutely love The Sound Of Music and The Princess Diaries as well. Not only did Julie care for two special children in London, but also for many generations. She is practically perfect in every way!!!
Her voice is like aloe vera....so so soothing. We must protect this icon at ALL costs.
The word “iconic” has been used for way too many actors & actresses that just do NOT deserve to be described as “iconic.”
But Julie Andrews is one actress that really deserves it. She truly is an American & British icon in not just the film industry, but in life in general.
People, stop throwing the word “iconic” around like it’s a piece of bread for the birds because no actress deserves such a word like Julie Andrews does. A *TRUE ICON* right here.
THANK you!
Where’s the lie?
The best thing about Dame Andrews? She gives credit to others. It would be so easy to go on about herself but she has the grace to talk about others.
Just for your info, it's Dame Julie. Surname is never used.
This woman is a world treasure. A QUEEN!
ex-Queen of Genovia to be exact
She is so comforting, my childhood was watching the sound of music & Mary popping every year. And then the princess diaries being our go to as kids in 2000s.
Julie Andrews is a national treasure!
Listening to Julia Andrews makes me feel like a girl again. I remember not knowing what a movie star was but I caught that she was in a lot of films I watched. Even hearing her voice reminds me of childhood. Ready to learn and listen like when I was a small child.
I can say with full confidence that everyone loves Julie Andrews. Sheer perfection
Julie Andrews is one of those fantastic naturally talented performers that will transcend time, plus also being an absolute charm and elegant human being love her
Julie Andrews truly is one of the most talented people to ever live. She's also extremely humble and respected which is unusual in this day and age. A true icon.
Of all the films listed here, Duet For One is the film you have to watch if you haven’t already!!! Julie is a triumph in her performance. It goes far beyond the physicality of MS. She digs deep into the emotional wounds of Stephanie and it’s unlike anything else I’ve seen her do.
I was actually looking for a comment on this, I’ve never heard of Duet for One although being a huge Julie Andrews fan. You’ve convinced me to check it out!
The sound of music is my favourite movie and I have such good memories attached to it. Julie Andrews got me into theatre. It is because of her performance in TSOM that I watched Mary poppins and My fair lady. Then I got into theatre productions. I’ll never be able to thank her enough for that.
I don't know but for ME SHE'S LIKE *THE QUEEN OF MOVIES* and actually LOOKS LIKE A QUEEN AND BEHAVES LIKE A QUEEN
I'm glad we have this interview❤
Never going to forget one of the most classiest jab she took at Jack Warner during the Golden Globes while winning for Marry Poppins & for not casting her in My fair lady the film which eventually lead her to win the Oscar. Classic Julie Andrews. Gotta love her. 💕
The first theater production I saw was the Sound of Music, and the first theater production I was in was Mary Poppins. When I found out Julie Andrews was at the core of both of the movies they were based on, I was in awe. There is truly no one like her. ❤️
Fun fact: while Mary Poppins was being edited and getting ready to release, she was teaching the children actors of Sound of Music all the Mary Poppins songs during filming and they all thought she was a genius to make all the songs.
I've been singing all my life, but Julie really helped mold my voice. I'm a sucker for Julie! Love her always💖
Same with me, she's an absolute icon
Everytime I hear Julie Andrews I just feel like I’m enveloped in a giant hug. She truly is a queen ❤️
I just had the biggest grin on my face watching this. I was introduced to Dame Julie Andrew’s as many were in Mary Poppins, but I have truly grown to respect and admire her in every aspect. An honest gift to this world, and I am thankful for it.
she reminds me a lot of my grandma, so full of wisdom, poise, and the same hair lol. It almost made me cry seeing this video because my grandma passed away in 2020. Julie Andrews will always make me feel comforted❤ what an icon
I’m so happy to see her talk about Duet for One. I know why it’s not talked about a lot - she even says it closed really quickly - but it should be talked about more often. While Sound of Music is definitely my favourite of her films (and really my favourite thing ever), Duet for One is her best performance in my opinion.
she reminds me a lot of my grandma and I feel so touched whenever she talks, she basically raised a lot of us
I have met this amazing woman a couple times. Once when I was three and once I was about 18, she was sarcastic, funny, and I will never forget her smile. She is a Queen of Queens.
Is there a Julie Andrews documentary? Her life is so fascinating
Julie Andrews is and will always be iconic. She may be own of the greatest actresses and vocalists to ever be alive. Before I only ever knew her as Mia Thermapolis’ grandmother, but now, I know her as a woman fostering great talent and attitude when it comes to her acting/singing performances throughout the decades. May you continue to live long, Julie Andrews. You’re such a gem, honestly.
I don't know if we will ever be graced with such a soul or presence in Hollywood every again. Julie Andrews is a an absolute queen and legend. She is a cornerstone of many of our childhoods.
What a beautiful, talented woman; what a graceful way to grow old. She's a role model.
Thoroughly Modern Millie is one of my all time favorite movies! Literally the one I force people to sit and watch with me, because no one I meet has ever heard of it.
Also Victor/Victoria.....gah, so many of her movies are just my go to "I need to feel good about something" movies.
I ADORE Thoroughly Modern Millie!
“Crazy world” makes me tear up every time, and Thoroughly is such a wild romp. Def my favorites, too!
I'm still not over the way her voice breaks a little when she mentions how "pleasant" it was to be friends with Christopher Plummer after all these years. Instant tears fr...
Julie Andrews is so special. You just don’t see pure talent like her anymore.
Surprising and strange that "The Americanization of Emily" isn't mentioned. I understood this was her favorite film.
Yes, I was disappointed to see it omitted, too. I also wish she had talked more about "Hawaii;" her character (Jerusha) was so compelling in that film.
This is easily one of the best of these videos. Julie Andrew’s is, and always has been, a triple threat. And it was caught on film time & time & time again. She is a legend and an icon.
Mary Poppins & Sound of Music may be all time classics, but films like Throughly Modern Millie and Victor/Victoria prove how timeless she is.
Facts
My dad HATES musicals. He thinks they’re ridiculous. And whenever there’s a random singing number on a show, he will change the channel and won’t change it back until the song is over. But for some reason, he absolutely loves Mary Poppins. It’s one of his favorite movies/movie characters, and he quotes her lines all the time. Just another example of the fabulous talent of Julie Andrews.
There will never be another Julie Andrew, she's so warm. Listening to her voice here it just so amazing, lovely and comfortable
Okay but I didn’t know some of these were her😭. She truly has an amazing trajectory
It’s truly a blessing to see how far she has come ❤
I wrote Mrs. Andrews when I was seven years old and I still have her autograph on my desk. ❤️❤️❤️
I always cry with the last fly scene in princess diary 😍😍
I don't know how to explain the feeling that came over me hearing the way she refers to Christopher Plummer as just "Chris" 🥺
I adore her with ALL MY HEART! This woman is a pure talent, still a person of an endless beauty, a LEGEND and a very kind person with a heart full of love to people and the craft she is doing.
Julie Andrews is practically perfect in every way 💕
She really is definition of world 'classic'
Btw, I will NEVER forgive Disney for not casting Julie as Mrs Potts & Anne Hathaway as Belle in 2017 BatB remake!!!
I feel Anne Hathaway was too old for Belle by then. But Julie as Mrs. Potts? Absolutely.
Mrs Potts has a small child, she isn’t in her 80s. The hair in the end was just a powdered wig wig that some used in 1700s when the movie is set in.
But Anne Hathaway would have been perfect as Belle if the movie had been made a couple of years prior!
My sister, mom, and I met her when I was around 10. Never a NICER and more CARING celebrity to interact with. She truly is some of her most renowned characters.
She is the epitome of elegance and an absolute living legend. Iconic, outstanding and just, truly the best.
I am amazed at this woman’s humility.
Such a fantastic artist in so many ways, yet never taking all the credit for herself.
Simply gorgeous.
I grew up watching Julie Andrews and I still love watching her now in Bridgerton. And around Christmas time in Eloise . She’s phenomenal. I just rewatched her recently in my fav childhood movies the Princess diaries
Julie Andrews is such a classy lady. I'm glad we have people like Julie to show the youth of today how to present yourself and how to act with class and dignity
I wish she'll live forever.
If you liked this but haven’t read her autobiographies you MUST. she goes into so much more detail and paints such a rich picture of her life. I really enjoyed reading them.
Oh Julie Andrews. Such a kind, inspirational woman. So many memories. The joy you have spread through generations. I respect her so much.
She's one of many actresses that has inspired to to pursue my dream in becoming an actress.
Some other actresses that have also inspired me are Anne Hathaway, Sandra bullock, Rachel McAdams, Natalie Portman and Reese Witherspoon.
Whatever opinion you have about the Princess Diaries (it’s amazing), you have to admit they did (at least) one thing right: make Julie Andrews a queen
I was so excited to see Victor/Victoria. My grandma suggested we watch it. Im ftm and I absolutely loved it. It was hysterical and sweet! And something i could bond with my grandmother. She adores Julie Andrews.
She is gentle, calm, professional, kind and sweet actress I love her career history
