Sometimes when you post a topic I think, "I already know how to do that." But then I watch and you show me an alternative that's so cool. Thank you! Really enjoy these.

Aron one tip, at 07:40 u press "create clipping mask" for the selective color adjustment layer. You can create clipping mask adjustment layer more easier, Just click on the layer you'd like to clip and hold alt, while holding alt click on the adjustment layers and select any, it will offer you a choice to automaticly clipp the layer :D sorry for bad english
Thank you for the episode it was great as usuall

Any tips on when you have a few trees in the photo. I find it hard to get the sky selected properly around the trees and leaves.

You could actually get a better selection (to fit better the trees for example) by using the refine selection function... it does an impressive job actually

The sky on the "after" version looks much more lighter.. especially the clouds. On the top left corner it can be seen that the sun is high on the sky and there is an other sun behind the bush at the bottom right corner.
I would have made the new cloudy image a bit transparent and would have made sure that the two suns are in the same position. :)

Nice work, well presented but your stuff always is. If you're ever stuck for an episode I could certainly do with some help with a picture I'm struggling with. Let me explain; I took a picture of a rescue helicopter flying past, the shot was good but my shutter speed froze the rotors in mid air so it just looks like it's levitating instaed of flying - not good. The rear rotor at the tail was pretty straight forward as it's facing you at pretty much 90 degrees so a simple circular motion blur with a few tweaks fixed that. However the main rotors above the cabin at an oblique angle - not such an easy fix, for me at least. Like I say, if your looking for episodes, one that covers that would be a great help.
    Keep up the great work!

Hey Phlearn, I have a request for a tutorial. I'm intending to make a composite image of my children dressed in their comic book character costumes set in a classic New York street style stock photo. I think I now understand using the colour selection tool to adjust highlights and tones to match the stock photo. My main concern is making them actually appear like they are standing on the sidewalk and not just floating on it.
Does that sound like something you could do a brief tutorial on?
Thanks for all you great work, my Photoshop skills are improving greatly thanks to you guys!

Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong? When I do this, I get a hard greenish line around the house? It just makes it stick out so much that it’s a “fake” sky!

  • @BLEURfangers

That photo would also look interesting with a dark storm sky, would highlight the lights on in the house and on the exterior and objectify the building more.
    Cheers.

  • @yashazare

at the end you just gotta add one simple touch to make it just much more realistic
and that's to fade the fake sky's mask into the real image.
so you duplicate the cloud layer. change the layer type to "color" and with "refine edge" fade the mask into the main picture, so this way you can ignore both color diff and those edgy pixels on the roof and the trees.

I bought the big one, and wish I'd bought the small. But it might just be "the grass is always greener." You can always zoom in on the photo to do precision work with the small one. You can't as easily change the size of your desk if the big one turns out to be unwieldy.

I wish you would do a "proper" job of mask selecting. I think it's the biggest difference from a lot of people mocking things together quickly in PS, and people doing "proper" compositing in AE / NUKE / etc. On the right side for instance, the bushes still have a lot of the old background and colour and it looks sloppy. Anyway the idea is there I just think you could go a lot more hardcore on it, and maybe show how to finish the job fully. keep it up!
