    I sold Mercedes up until 5 or 6 years ago. A E350-AWD was 65k. A C300-AWD was 33ish. A GLE350 was around 54k. A S550 AWD started around 98k and a GL450 was 72k

      @JasbirSingh-zj1fg 9 месяцев назад +4

      Selling at auctions is not a bad thing. An auction is where a car finds its *fair* price *on the day* that it is auctioned. At an auction you can blame neither the buyer nor the seller for agreeing to settle on that price.
      If you need a car, one of the ways you can get one is to find someone who has the permit to bid at a car auction. All car dealers, both new and used, usually have these permits. Many people who got out of the car selling business may still have such permits. You can pay them a fee for their troubles.

    When it showed up, I noticed that they were now ROLLING THE EDGE of the bracket stamping that had cracked, thus precluding the same from happening again. SO THINK: I got an UPGRADED replacement part for a 14-15 year-old car, partly because the part was still interchangeable with the cars in CURRENT PRODUCTION.
    IN FACT, the SL/SLC platform remained largely unchanged (except for IMPROVED ENGINEERING) from 1972 until 1989! THAT is what I want to see in Mercedes... NOT the American tradition of throwing out the baby with the bathwater every few years, resulting in ANOTHER unrefined iteration!

Got a decent deal, car is fine and I am enjoying driving it (except for my constant fear of the terrible roads tearing up my wheels) but the big brother nature of this vehicle is driving me nuts. At about 17,000 miles (at my second service appointment) I was told the rear brakes needed new pads and they quoted over $900. Told them no thank you. Now I live with a constant service light on because the brake pads need to be replaced (at about 25k miles). And I have service prompts for my tires needing to be replaced that can’t be cleared. I swear they are creating prompts to drive their typical customers into their service departments to generate revenue. Go in for the “complimentary” service and prepare to be scared into the upsell. That, along with some of the rumors of monthly subscriptions for features, is really pulling me away from these “luxury” brands. I’d much rather have a CX5 Turbo or a Civic Sport at this point.

Another fact, is that they push for selling those full sized sport SUVs, which were designed more for the USA. In Germany, or better said Europe in general are just too inconveniently large to drive around and trying to find a proper parking spot for that oversized SUV, not everyone has time and mood for that. Another point is that their price increase does not necessarily reflects the quality, anybody upgrading to a newer vehicle notices the cost saving measure in their finishing, that is not acceptable when you try to be "premium".

      Absolutely what happened, and of all of the EV buyers many would prefer Tesla. Every brand trying to get a piece of the pie but those early adopters are sticking with Tesla, and a 100k plus price tag on Mercedes Benz EV certainly isn't changing their mind any time soon. Just like Ford, the electric vehicles from the brand are going to continue to sit and rot away because there isn't a buyer for that. A Mercedes Benz buyer doesn't care about EV's, and an EV buyer wouldn't buy from Mercedes. If I ever bought an EV it would hands down be a Tesla and I wouldn't consider any other brand as Tesla has become the dominant EV with the most support. A high end Mercedes buyer is buying an AMG, they couldn't care less about an electric car

    • @ryanshannon6963
      @ryanshannon6963 9 месяцев назад +1

      There's no difference between you walking a lot and recording what's on the lot. The only difference I can imagine is if you're in a state where you can't record someone without their consent. Since it's closed and nobody is there, there's nobody to consent and they're not trespassing unless there's a sign that explicitly says, "No Trespassing".
      Hell, did you *not see* that big ass truck driving through the lanes in the video?
      "Well, they weren't recording"
      I would retort, how do you know they weren't recording?
      In fact, some states make it outright illegal to talk about pricing and such on Sunday at a dealership (which is why they're closed on Sunday). However, some dealerships will actually send sales persons out on Sunday to still up and present cars to people if they're interested, but they just can't talk price, but they can set appointments for the future!

    • @user-st1hy6ql3j

    I think it’s hilarious living in eastern MA, with all the people driving around in $100,000 EV’s and crapping on all the bad people who refuse to install solar panels on their mansions and spend $100k on a car. Most of the people driving these things don’t realize that the vast majority of people actually can’t afford buying these as their third or fourth vehicle - or even as their first….
    And fwiw, I work for a financial company and A LOT of my colleagues are driving EV’s.

Everything got cheaper inside of the car but prices went up. Think about it, when you replace mechanical climate control, mechanical fuel injection, mechanical gauge clusters with electronics and screens shouldn’t that drive prices down? Not with Mercedes they charge more for disposable stuff.

I've been fortunate to have many different high end German cars, and this thing is off the charts. When you compare a $150,000 EQS to a $100,000 Jeep or Toyota, the EQS actually looks like a bargain (as crazy as that sounds). I'd love to have you drive one and report back here.

    The part that's so strange to me is they're very nice of course but at the end of the day, a lot of Mercedes are sedans. Honda, Toyota, they also make 'sedans'. Four wheels, steering wheels, etc. They also make some nice SUV's, and the electric vehicles seem pretty cool. butI guess what I struggle with is 'Mercedes' doesn't mean what it used to for me. Growing up, they were kind of special. They were more of a symbol. But today, it seems like anybody can have anything if they're willing to throw away their financial futures, so you see loads of them. Ditto Porsche & their SUVs, etc. Anybody can say: "I drive a Porsche", so it's odd for people to be into having the ability to say that. There's just nothing special about those brands anymore IMHO. They're just expensive.

    Back in the early 1970's the US dollar went up compared to the Deutsche Mark, and Mercedes RAISED their US prices. They lost me as a potential customer then and there. In later years I heard acquaintances complaining about the costs of Mercedes service and parts. On top of that, Consumer Reports rated their dependability on a par with Datsun, well below that of Toyota.

    This is just the inventory you see. I'm a truck driver and probably every other day I come across some parking lot that's been rented just to store hundreds of cars they can't fit on the lot. I went to one place the other day and the person renting the lot across from them easily has 1000s of Fords and Toyotas. The overnight rate has gone up 16x. That's translating into main street loans and people can't afford this shit.
