You can tell the EQS when NOT to charge rather than telling it when you can charge. I have mine set to 8AM to 11PM. It's a big reason why I wish I could assign the other charging settings to the Home/Work program mode. I know all about regrets as an early adopter. I got one of the first 2021 Model S refreshes and the car was plagued with power problems and Tesla eventually bought it back 6 months later. Then I got the EQS 450+ with a horrible dealership markup, but I needed to replace the Model S right away and I wanted a luxury EV. The EQS died 8 months later due to a software bug! It took them over 50 days to figure it out, but by that time Mercedes agreed to buy it back, too. Man, being an early adopter can suck. But you know what doesn't suck when buying from Mercedes, the support of the dealership. My dealership put me in a new EQS 580 with a bunch of upgrades for the same price I paid for the 450+, much of that difference paid for by the markup. My dealership wanted to ensure I continued to do business with them. Tesla could care less about me being a returning customer - they cut me a check and told me if I wanted a new car, I could get at the back of the 6 month line. Great video. Thanks for being frank with us, especially at the end.
@@jmlin501 Lease might be the best option as an early adopter, especially when you look at Tesla's aggressive sales tactics and what it did to the resale value of the entire EV industry.
Sorry to hear about your troubles no matter which car you had. Hopefully smooth sailing from here. I am thinking to lease my EQE SUV. This way, I can get the $7,500 from MB. I can always trade or give it back at the end of the lease if things aren’t right. I can keep it and buy it at the residual price (which would already be discounted by the $7,500). I am hoping it will be a win/win in the long run.
Well I have one of the first production 580's ever delivered. Best car ever made. Aside from minor MBUX "burps" the first few mths, the car has been utterly reliable, never requiring service, except for a single visit for software updates. 6 foot riders fit perfectly in the rear. As expected given the size there is an overabundance of legroom in the rear. Headroom in the rear is only tight if you are over 6 feet tall. Ultra fast, ultra comfotable, ultra quiet. As an EV, it charges fast has up to 400 miles range. BTW it is faster and handles better than the S class. It also has a more comfortable ride than a modern S class. I think the reviwer is thinking of an 80's S class with 16 inch wheels, all cars with ultra large wheels will seem a hrher on potholes than those cars. And yes, the rear is not as "sumptuous" as a regular S class, the car is not meant to be a limo and like most S classes the rear seat is empty or used by people shorter than 6 ft for 99% of the time.
Another early adopter EQS450+ owner here with 20k miles on it. Zero issues with my ride. Design was questionable for me before the purchase, but it really grew on me since. Very classy and unique look on the road full of generic looking (to me) Teslas when it comes to EV world. Ride quality is exceptional and it is quieter than the S-class for obvious reasons. I did own the Model S back in 2012 which I actually paid $10k more for than my EQS. The only benefit of Tesla was that it was faster. The rest was far FAR inferior: built, ride, interior, range, reliability - you name it. Absolutely love that I can drive 320 miles from Vegas to San Diego non-stop and still have 16% left on my battery upon arrival where with Model S I had to stop for an hour to charge. I test drove some rivals (Taycan, Lucid) - nothing compares in price/value IMHO. Give it a strong consideration if you want an electric S-class type of vehicle that does not need any service (air filter every 20k miles lol) and does an equivalent of 100 miles per gallon.
Thank you for this update. New things I learned. I just ordered an EQE SUV 4 MATIC. It gives lots of info. I agree, MB should have made the back seat a little roomier for the EQS. I had a 2004 S500 4MATIC. So I know what you mean about the room in the S-class. Also, you are getting close to the 500 number. Hopefully you reach it soon. I recently started my cooking channel. I am moving up every month. Keep up the good work. I really enjoyed your review.
I have one of the early 2022 EQS580s and have been driving it for the past 16 months. While I love many of the features, I do get frustrated by some of the nagging little problems that have resulted in me taking the car to the dealership 6 different times. After 2 trips for this issue, my driver side window often will still not close automatically as it hits the normal top and immediately retreats to 1/2 open. After many tries I am forced to manually raise it 3 or 4 times, stopping just short of completely closed. After driving a few miles, I can then close it. The dealer has been unable to fix it completely, although it now happens less frequently. My front cameras were not working properly and required the dealer to replace the bracket that must have arrived from the factory bent. Yesterday my rear camera stopped working altogether. I stopped by the dealership and they could not immediately fix the problem so I go back to service next week. I am beginning to see why Mercedes rates so low with owner satisfaction regarding reliability. My previous Audi A8 was bullet proof. I hope additional luxury electric vehicles are available when my lease expires because I cannot see myself owning this car when it is out of warranty.
Sorry to hear about your challenges. Experiences like yours prompted me to wait for the 2023 model. Having owned a 2010 S550, I will say the problems you are having are not normal for most Mercedes vehicles.
I don't see the charging as outdated. You will have the option of CCS, NACS, and the new Mercedes charging network. You will still maintain your free charging at EA. We as Mercedes EQ owners will have the best of all things charging. I have a blue EQE and I love everything about it. The drive is much better than the E-Class model I was going to buy or that I have owned. Great Vid.
Good comment. It will be interesting to see how this develops. It would be nice if MB gave all EQ owners a free adapter, but I'm not holding my breath.
@@EQS-Owner The ideal case would be retrofitting the “correct” charge port. Having the standard change within a month of purchasing it feels a bit like being stuck with beta revision of the car. So a free adapter would soften the blow of Mercedes changing their mind so soon after release. I have wanted an electric vehicle for a while, but felt Tesla build quality in particular was not up to German/Japanese standards. And assumed when Mercedes finally released electric vehicles, they could be trusted to be reliable and solid. And mine has been to date. But my charge port is already out of date.
Thanks for the review. I have to say that for a first owner, whilst under warranty, if there are any technology issues at least hopefully they will sort them out with no cost, just perhaps inconvenience. The problem will be for the 2nd or 3rd owner if it goes wrong. Back in the day I had an old AMG C43 as the 2nd owner and had it for several years. It had problems with the technology, such as the electric sunroof stopping opening fully, drivers door mirror not working, the LCD display on the air con backlight failing so could not see it at night. But I just ignored all those and still enjoyed driving it. With modern technology such as adaptive cruise control, braking, steering assist or even just getting into the car you cannot just live with it. The other issue with BEV cars at the moment is the technology on the battery and charging side is moving on so quick I wonder when these current EV cars will in effect be obsolete as not enough range or fast charging. A diesel engine 10 years back still gives similar mpg and "fills up" similar to a brand new one. So that increases the longevity of the car and people who can only afford a $5000 -$10 000 car still get something similar on performance and range to a new one, just without the gizmos. I wouldn't want to buy this EQS in 9 years time considering the range and charging compared to what will be availble then for a 3 year old EV car in 2032. I'd pay more for the younger car. Even without the worry with reliability. These cars are driving dinosaurs. I only trust the Japanese for electrics as well, maybe the Koreans. Certainly not any European manufacturer, and I come from the UK. Drive a Toyota now.... The german car manufacturers seem to be just adding more and more gizmos to keep their software engineers busy and outdoing the other german manufacturers. The old addage "If it hasn't got it, it cannot go wrong" is being stress tested. Air vents with motors so you can adjust them from a menu?? Seems a solution to a problem that does not exist. How did we manage before ????? All the best with this car and your next one.
"I only trust the Japanese for electrics" The Japanese are so far behind when it comes to EV development, Toyota has actually been lobbying hard in the US to delay the hard deadline set by some states when new ICE vehicles will no longer be offered for sale.
We just bought an eqb 250+ and it is the nicest car we’ve ever owned. I cant imagine what your eqs sedan or an eqs suv would feel like. Congrats and I’m glad you love your car!
I believe on the door handles if they don't open when you walk up, you can swip front to back on the handle to open them instead of pushing. It should work every time.
I’ve watched MANY reviews of the EQ vehicles and frequently the reviewers struggle to get the handles to extend. More end user testing would have shown this function isn’t quite right. Unfortunately this immediately creates some frustration at the first moment you physically interact with the car.
@@adamaufdencamp5080 having played with it this week, the key is location, location, location! Touching or swiping forward from immediately in front of the locking square was the key to consistent success!
Good review. I have the EQS SUV so the problems you have doesn’t apply for me. Like getting in and out of the car. You can tell the car when you charge. However, Mercedes decided to call it something else. It’s called ‘Pause’. You just tell the EQ when you don’t want to change. As for the charging port. Mercedes isn’t going to charge the port. There’s going to be two options. First is an adapter you can purchase. Like when Teslas want to use J1772 chargers. Vice versa. Second, Tesla super chargers are going to be equipped with special charging cables for EVs that use J1772.
Yeah, same here. With my EQS SUV, getting in and out, especially in the back is much easier. But I also agree with the back seats not as comfortable compared to S-Class.
That is a very practical approach. Anyone buying a new product, whether it is the first iPhone or the EQS, knows they may have issues that later adopters will not have. That sense of uncertainty was part of my reason to make these videos - to share all of my experiences, good or bad, with others.
I had two major issues why not buying. 1) no lift on air suspension 2) price on rwd only model. Europe have MB plugins with 25kwh batteries under half the cost. Same running costs for most on daily driving under 60 miles per day. I agree on styling but just would be able to live with it.
Keith - what an interesting and well done video! Like you I am a loyal Mercedes owner but waiting for the next model year to take the plunge from ICE to EQ. Likely the EQE sedan. I am holding out for more range, faster charging specs, better in-dash route planning (ie dynamic supercharger info). Since I just discovered your site, I'm not sure if you describe how you plan for road trips in the EQS - using the on-board NAV, the Mercedes app and/or others? Thanks again.
I am looking at the 2026 model as the next possible model year for me. That is the year they are coming out with the MBOS and they should be in the 2nd generation design. I've now made several trips to Orlando and back (1,100 miles round trip). I use the NAV system, apps by Electrify America, ChargeHub and PlugShare, and Google Maps to figure out the places to charge for free (Electrify America). during the trip, I realized I had more stops available than I needed, so I now have 2 stops going up and back, with a charger in Orlando and other options if needed. I explain my charging at the 5:50 mark here: ruclips.net/video/OjXmywVG4a0/видео.html.
CCS is not going away anytime soon. Even though the country is moving to NACS, you'll have charging available to you longer than you'll likely have that car. I really wouldn't worry about it. Also, the adapters should not be too expensive and will likely be worth it just to increase your options of charging by at least 3X
Both are valid issues. That is the challenge with being an early adopter. I figure the charging issue will be worked out in the next 2-4 years and the resale value will follow the path of all other cars.
Sir, is there any list or link to see the upgrades between 2021,22,23 models as you mentioned you wanted 2023 instead of 22? I was almost buying a 2021 eqs 580 yesterday. I changed my mind after your video. Thanks in advance.
@@jb0502 I'm sure each year has a list - I will see what I can find. The reason I waited for the 2023 was I saw a lot of comments by owners of 2022 cars who were having quality issue and I decided to wait for the 2023, hoping Mercedes would work out the bugs. My car has only had one sensor issue and the dealership simply replaced it - solved the problem. While you might find a 2021 or 2022 model that works perfectly, I just didn't want to take the chance. If the 2021 you saw has the automatically opening doors, it may be a great find. Just make sure the dealership gives you an amazing warranty.

One thing I am puzzled about is the washer fluid, MB in Europe doesn't say anything about using their washer fluid. We can use any type we like. And one thing I react to is that you say you can't schedule charging, because you can. But it is a bit different you schedule a pause for the charging. Say you want it to start charge at 02:00 AM, you schedule a pause from plugging in at 06:00 PM to 02:00 AM, which can be done In the APP and in the car.
To me an S560e Plugin Hybrid is currently still the better choice: More comfort in the entry, looks better (especially the front grill!) and just more mature but still the e-drive functionality.
I really like those. I can't get an SUV now because it is hard for my 80+ year old parents to step up and I must have the hyperscreen on any new vehicle going forward - that, and the augmented reality heads-up-display.
As a Tesla model S and EQS580 owner, I am very disappointed with the nuisance start-stop button. EQS should be smart enough to start with a touch of the brake and have walk-away locking. Home charging is a disappointing 9.6 vs 11.6 kW because it’s limited to 40A vs 48A. That’s a 20% difference! On the positive side, I really like EQS adaptive cruise control with lane centering and changing. To achieve lane changing on Tesla, you must spend $6K more getting advanced autopilot.
I've seen your exact sentiments expressed by dozens of former Tesla owners. Here's hoping future models will adapt, perhaps the engineers will bring that in future models.
Hi, I was interested in your views on the 450+. Thanks for spending the time. I spotted one comment about charging the car on low cost energy at home. This is catered for in the Charging Pauses option (EQ menu) this allows you to plug the charger into the car and the car sits there until the low cost energy is available then charges
@@nigelwilliams8792 1) the 450+ is perfect for most people (I cannot recommend the hyperscreen enough if you go this route). For me, with as much as the EQS costs, I had to get ever comfort possible, which left the 580 as the only choice for me. 2) Duke Energy does not have time-based prices, so I do not have to pause charging. For most others, the pause feature is perfect.
Having spent a significant amount of time in both EQS AMG and lucid air GT. I can say overall the lucid is the superior car better range/ looks/ speed/driving dynamics. Edge goes to the Benz on interior.
@@mr.boombah6511 that's why I sit in the interior 🤣 But seriously, I was leaning toward the Lucid - did ALL the research - but went with the EQS because of the driver's experience.
On a 2010 s550 getting in and out of the front seats is a problem for me because of the same reason you mentioned. The roof line is too low and I always hit my head. Never had a problem on my Lexus ls 460. Maybe a better and clever design?
PS, can I make a request for a new quick tip video: how to set up the car for one peddle driving. I have watched a few reviews where the driver did not realize they had to disable creep mode while in strong recuperation to get the full one peddle experience.
@@EQS-Owner check out this little demo video I made of a streaming video device that's compatible with the EQS... not the same quality as your videos, but maybe you can snag one of these little devices and do your tip magic: ruclips.net/video/AGXBXrIN24U/видео.html
I’m on the fence on disabling creep. It does make for one pedal driving with strong recuperation. But I have a hard to like replicating the slow speed creep gives you for low speed maneuvering. With creep off, I also feel like I’m driving a giant brick. You really feel the weight of an ev with it off.
@@adamaufdencamp5080 I understand your point, but I can not imagine ever turning it on again. I just love knowing the car is not going anywhere unless I make it move.
I hear you about the regrets. However you holistically accept the early adopter position. So therefore I say, focus only on the positive because you deserve to enjoy this experience. You say there are parts of it you love. Enjoy them for now. No car is forever.
Actually, Mercedes makes high quality vehicles that only need maintenance once a year (every two years for the EQS). They are also very reliable and, while service is more expensive per visit, require far fewer service visits than other manufacturers.
I still want S class but don’t blame anyone who wants electric but in both cases Mercedes Is the most luxurious car to have specially with this interior .
I think they are really ugly, but with the deals now I might have to get one. I can lease one with a $110K MSRP for around $600 a month with $2K drive off. $7500 lease cash, $10,500 Amex bonus and 25% dealer discount.
I own a EQS 580 and I will be posting my first RUclips video about it as I have found it to be that badly designed. I have a Tesla model Y and except for the ride, a much better car in my opinion. They obviously thought they didn’t have to check out a Tesla, no dog mode and no way to really back into it. We are on a 5000 mile trip and I want to not drive it another day ship it home. We have been in Joplin Mo for 4 hours try to get enough charge to get Dallas with 30%. The non Tesla charging system is awful. 1/2 don’t work or broken. MB doesn’t seem to be committed enough to the program to at least make their dealers have a fast charger. I drive my wife is perpetually on the phone trying to verify chargers are working. The other day Charge America had 8 lines, 7 weren’t working. If you want this car to drive in a very controlled environment then buy but if you take it on the you will probably be sorry. Today CA in Joplin and there is no cover for the screens hard to read, 2-3 down. No standardization and we used a new system, had to call them and they said to leave the car off while charging. 100 degrees and over an hour. Then we still can’t get to Dallas and the chargers are mostly 6 watt. If you are going to travel don’t buy this or any other EV in my opinion. 580-150K and you really only can use 200 miles of range with the safety margins you need for the poor system. I have tried to get in touch with MB, to no avail. I will cover the true and the lot of bad in my review. I think my wanting to pay for shipping it to Fl to sell and rent anything to get home says volumes. I would not let anyone I cared about drive this vehicle as it takes a pilot and a navigator checking for chargers, unless you want to be towed after running out.
I'm sorry you've had a bad experience charging in Texas. Along I-95, there are enough Electrify America stations to provide 100+ kW charging that I don't have your problems. In fact, my experience with chargers has improved over the last six months.
1) Buy when you want the car. The 2024 models have some improvements over my 2023, and the 2025 models will have even more improvements (see my comparison here: ruclips.net/video/T8iq3yIy6sU/видео.htmlsi=WWpJE6JQb2C_ylkV) 2) The Electric Vehicle market is going through a soft sales period and depreciation is massive right now. Leasing is a good option, or buy with long term ownership in mind.
You forgot to mention the depreciation. Used EV values have plummeted off a cliff. Plus if anything goes wrong with the battery the cost of repair is astronomical.
When I bought it, dealerships were paying above MSRP to buy them back. The used value is a market thing. It will eventually settle down (part of the early adopter risks). The batteries are covered for 150,000 miles - and made by Mercedes - so I am not overly worried.
Have you seen the trunk in these things? They are huge!! I imagine they will eventually create a frunk - the whole point of this month's update was to highlight this is a first generation vehicle. We enjoy having all the amazing features, but understand they will get better over time
The fact that the price to replace the battery when out of warranty is 60k make me stay away from these lmao. Also horror stories of brakes failing due to "electrical issues" doesn't really make it easier, especially knowing someone that almost died and got his first eqs totaled because of this exact issue. Hell no, I happily drive an S class gasser. If an electric for longer range is REALLY needed, BYD and NEO beat these by miles in everything (maybe not inside luxury, but its very close). Just facts, too much chinese government money behind those that really made them affordable, something a normal company couldn't pull off without going bankrupt.
Actually, he has abundant head room. The issue is that the entrance is low, so he has to duck to get in, and, as is evident, he is not too agile (not a criticism, just a fact). One back there, space is abundant.
@@mrjomaled755 they are just bringing their electric lineup back into their main lineup. So, instead of choosing between an S-Class and an EQS, in 2030, you will select from gas, hybrid, or electric S-Class. The EQ lineup gave them a chance to enter the electric car market with a flair. This future move gives then the chance to simplify their offerings.
@@EQS-Owner That's interesting. One more question... If cars generally lose around half of their value in four years, can you take that $70 grand hit over four years in depreciation cost? I own the baby Benz (40k) and have it 6 years now, but in your case, do you see a 17k a year loss every year just sitting in your garage?
@@rogerdodger8415 too new of a model to know - part of the reason I may hold on to it longer. Initially, they actually went up in value - guys were selling back their cars to the dealership and making $10-30k. Time will tell

One of your stanger videos. Seemed like you were fishing or searching for issues. Seats to hard to enter? Door sill too high for the feet? Ever tried entering a mclaren? You do not have to press the off button when departing. Locking the car does it for you. As a 9 year tesla owner now EQE owner I enjoy the on button. I also enjoy the tech. If you change your wall box to a teisen brand you can set charge time, adjust amps, and self charge from spare solar.
I thought I would do something different and spend one video focused on the negative comments I've heard and the challenges passengers have had getting in the front. Not comparing the EQS to a sports car or truck, just to the S-Class. I could have sworn the manual said to turn the car off (not just lock the doors) and I have read dozens of complaints from other owners - which is where most of the topics came from. My Wallbox is terrific! I can schedule charges and it allows me to set the price per kWh then tells me how much each charge costs and shows me daily, monthly, and yearly kWhs charged and how much it cost. I figure the CCS ports will be good through at least 2030, but felt it was worth mentioning as part of the changes made following initial product introductions (think original iPhone vs iPhone 4). I do appreciate your thoughts and input - that's part of why I do this.
@@EQS-Owner Time will tell on the port. In Australia the entire country inc tesla uses the port you have. Will be interesting to see if tesla continue with a different port in different countries. FYI if you want hard to get into, try a tesla model S especially when the seat is too high. It too has no easy entry. Also I saw your video on changing music tracks. Can also be done on the main screen using the steering controls. Press centre button once then scroll down and across.
I liked the frankness of the video. So many car owners portray their new purchases in the best light possible. We have to realize that an S-level Mercedes has a certain demographic... they may not have the most flexibility. I will say that the Tesla has the better technology stack, it's more intuitive. There were things that annoyed me about the EQS that I took for granted on my earlier Teslas - but after a month, I soon forgot... things like having to switch to strong recuperation. Although having to turn the car off is still very annoying because the car doesn't make it clear that you turned it off, at least not until you open the door to leave. But the one thing I don't miss about the Tesla is its lack of quality and luxury a car of its price demands.
@@sirnh tesla has inferior autopilot, phantom braking, hopeless wipers, ordinary headlights (vs digital lights) vastly inferior parking cameras, no augmented reality nav, no HUD…the tech differences are staggering so not sure why you think tesla has superior tech. I want do it like you packed with the money and afford Mercedes electric if you carry on like this the number 3 will be not enough for you to get in soon
They do look nicer up close - photos and videos don't do them justice. And, it is a brand new platform for them, so they wanted to make them stand out. Many don't like the look, and that is fine - there are a lot of other cars out there to select.
I agree. I can’t stand the way it looks. I have owned 5 Mercedes cars, the last three were the magnificent S Class Coupe. I went to my dealer to buy this car, took one look at it and turned around.
The Eqs looks like a C or E class sized model certainly not an S class........ . In Europe critics focus on the below standard fit and finish of the EQS and below average materials, and far, far to heavy....
They certainly are not sub standard build quality or below average materials. They are very well made and have numerous materials in the interior. They also have a special paint primer to make it more robust to stone chips. EV are all way too heavy with the battery weight and they don’t corner quite like an ice car. But they certainly are smooth, very comfortable with air suspension and the 4 wheel steering makes it very to manoeuvre when parking. There’s very little difference in overall length between the Eqe and Eqs. Just one has a hatchback the eqe is a boot. Technology is phenomenal in the eqe and Eqs, especially the top end.
I sense a lot of regret, your car will be outdated in 8 yrs. not sure how are u going to sell it. Better off to chg it with each newer model i guess, on lease.
Actually, I made this to share all the things that can cause regret because anyone considering investing in one needs to keep these things in mind. I knew there would be imperfections when I got it. The lease idea does help future-proof the car. Thanks for your thoughts
I am actually on a 2 year lease for my EQS SUV. I calculated that with the offer (they had the $7500 credit for leasing), and with residual value at the end of the lease, vs. purchasing it at 3.99% they offered, I think it still made sense to lease. Even if I want to keep it and purchase it at the end of lease, I think I'll just be paying a couple thousands more compared to purchasing it from the beginning. So far I like it very much, I think I'll buy it at the end of lease, depending on the actual market prices in 2 year's time I guess.
I consider the high cost to be an environmental tax. Will there be better models next year, probably. But it was time to get another vehicle and Mercedes overall has done an excellent job on these first models in my opinion. If there’s a twinge of buyer’s remorse, it’s dramatically overshadowed by the positives.
too small for a s class, and the egg shape also looks weird nothing like a Mercedes. giant screen make the car looks cheap. Hope the next generation will be better.
I am merely comparing the two energy sources. These videos are to help those considering getting a new expensive car make an informed decision. Just the same, someone buying a less expensive car can watch and see how much they can save in energy expenses if they go electric. The financial factors involved I discussed in my 8-month video.
Look in the mirror, get some exercise on a regular basis, stop eating so much and you may fit in your car easier and have a longer life. The EQS is a great car and you are lucky to have such a nice car. I would love to own a car like that and get great mileage off of an EV like that. Be thankful for what you have and I wish you the best on your life journey. Another resident of North Carolina.
i almost got an EQS - so glad i didn't. it's ugly AF and a total garbage car. i got an s-class instead. also a shitty car. loaded with problems. all the touch screens are stupid - esp the touch sensitive buttons on the steering wheel. nothing is tactile. the seat buttons don't move when you push them, so your fingers get hurt. i hate this car. $150k down the toilet
Obviously a poor experience with MB. It’s certainly not a garbage car that’s for sure. I’ve had no issues with its buttons or seat or hyperscreen. Got to admit the steering wheel functionality is poor. But tech in general is sublime. MBUX systems can sometimes lag or be unresponsive at times. I didn’t go Eqs, I went amg eqe. Still £120k in uk or probably $150k. Only took a year to get but the 2024 model did have a lot of improvements. Set the seat once then with your finger print it adjust the seat for you. You shouldn’t need to use after that, but I have to admit I do get your point with zero movement. Don’t know what the ones at the side of the seat are either. Air suspension is great tho and the 4 wheel steering. App is great and ambient lighting is great.
Thanks for your input!👍
I agree with the lease option, actually I did lease the EQS 450 plus since Feb. I also had to experience the recalls second time in two months.
@@jmlin501 Lease might be the best option as an early adopter, especially when you look at Tesla's aggressive sales tactics and what it did to the resale value of the entire EV industry.
Great review. One question, how many software updates have you had and were they over the air or done at the dealership?
How have you liked it thus far since the 7mos have passed since this comment? Possibly considering a 580
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks for your testimonial!
Thanks, you will really enjoy the SUV!
@@EQS-Owner thank you as well.
Great Vid.
I agree. Yes, we will buy or maybe MB will give us one. We will have more options and locations to charge.
@@EQS-Owner maybe it will be less than $50 😊
Thanks for the review.
@@baconfly11 and to you as well! Thanks for the comment and enjoy the EQB 😃
I believe on the door handles if they don't open when you walk up, you can swip front to back on the handle to open them instead of pushing. It should work every time.
I was apparently pushing too far forward - great tip! The responses to this video are really helpful
Even one of the service guys at my dealership haven't figured out the swipe gesture to unlock.
@@sirnh I tried it and it worked - pushing in farther back also worked
I’ve watched MANY reviews of the EQ vehicles and frequently the reviewers struggle to get the handles to extend. More end user testing would have shown this function isn’t quite right. Unfortunately this immediately creates some frustration at the first moment you physically interact with the car.
@@adamaufdencamp5080 having played with it this week, the key is location, location, location! Touching or swiping forward from immediately in front of the locking square was the key to consistent success!
Thanks for an honest owners review. I really like the EQS look, not so sold on the EQE though. What an exciting vehicle to own - cheers from Brisbane
I am thinking of buying one now 2022 model. You made me reconsider. Thank you.
They are great cars - absolutely love mine - but you need to know the good and bad when making that decision.
Thanks for the comment, they help other owners👍
Yeah, same here. With my EQS SUV, getting in and out, especially in the back is much easier.
But I also agree with the back seats not as comfortable compared to S-Class.
I am reluctant to be the first customers for any new technology..
Great video. Honest review and amazing car. 👍
Nice to see your video again. I think you could have the power doors installed at a Mercedes modification shop. Though not cheap😮
Thank you for the idea. I will ask about that possibility
The video i needed to help decide. Thank you
You can get a used 2022 EQS with very low miles for less than $60k
I love these: my biggest issues are with travel , using Electrify America network… and resale value is HORRIBLE
Both are valid issues. That is the challenge with being an early adopter. I figure the charging issue will be worked out in the next 2-4 years and the resale value will follow the path of all other cars.
Excellent discussion.
Thanks for the great input
To me an S560e Plugin Hybrid is currently still the better choice: More comfort in the entry, looks better (especially the front grill!) and just more mature but still the e-drive functionality.
They are fine cars!
Thank you. I am considering an EQE SUV.
I really like those. I can't get an SUV now because it is hard for my 80+ year old parents to step up and I must have the hyperscreen on any new vehicle going forward - that, and the augmented reality heads-up-display.
@@EQS-OwnerEQE is available with the hyperscreen
Europeans and Asians just like to have a start/stop button. That’s the reason.
@@nigelwilliams8792
1) the 450+ is perfect for most people (I cannot recommend the hyperscreen enough if you go this route). For me, with as much as the EQS costs, I had to get ever comfort possible, which left the 580 as the only choice for me.
2) Duke Energy does not have time-based prices, so I do not have to pause charging. For most others, the pause feature is perfect.
I have mine EQs 450+ so far no complaints. Not perfect, but I love my Benz. There is no perfect car.

Reason is to lower cw.
Informative video, thanks!
Was this EQS the 450, 500, 580?? I ask because leg room grows a good 4" like it does in the BMW iL, vs "i", class.
My EQS is a 580. The leg room is good in front and back.
PS, can I make a request for a new quick tip video: how to set up the car for one peddle driving. I have watched a few reviews where the driver did not realize they had to disable creep mode while in strong recuperation to get the full one peddle experience.
Sure, will probably post that next weekend

I’m on the fence on disabling creep. It does make for one pedal driving with strong recuperation. But I have a hard to like replicating the slow speed creep gives you for low speed maneuvering. With creep off, I also feel like I’m driving a giant brick. You really feel the weight of an ev with it off.

Great review
Thank you, I appreciate your response 👍
These upper middle class cars really look like maintenance death traps.

The design is nice. Unique.
The design difference is insane, I’ll be so disappointed, there is not curve around the bottom of the car like the first picture shown
The prototypes always look better than the final production cars, but they are cool
I think they are really ugly, but with the deals now I might have to get one. I can lease one with a $110K MSRP for around $600 a month with $2K drive off. $7500 lease cash, $10,500 Amex bonus and 25% dealer discount.
@@MitchM240 I thought it was not great looking until I started driving it. I get lots of compliments on how nice it looks from people passing by.
In fact, my experience with chargers has improved over the last six months.
is now 2024 July still too early to buy?
1) Buy when you want the car. The 2024 models have some improvements over my 2023, and the 2025 models will have even more improvements (see my comparison here: ruclips.net/video/T8iq3yIy6sU/видео.htmlsi=WWpJE6JQb2C_ylkV)
2) The Electric Vehicle market is going through a soft sales period and depreciation is massive right now.
10k mikes for $300? This is compelling to switch to EV.
How tall are you, sir? It's hard to tell whether the car is low or you're just big lol.
I'm only 5'6" (167cm) tall
Why can’t smart MB engineers condense equipment under the hood so we get a frunk? Lucid & Tesla do it, so why not MB?
You’re 5’6”, with surprisingly little headroom in the backseat. For a 6 foot + tall person, the backseat must be a “no-go”. That’s quite surprising.
Doug Demuro did a review of the car and is well over 6 feet. Once you sit down, the headroom is fine. Getting in just takes some practice.
Actually, he has abundant head room. The issue is that the entrance is low, so he has to duck to get in, and, as is evident, he is not too agile (not a criticism, just a fact). One back there, space is abundant.
I read Mercedes just cancelled their electric car program. Sales were horrible.
$148k starting price? You gotta save a lot on fill ups to make up for that!
It's actually the same price as the S-Class, so the savings are instant
@@EQS-Owner That's interesting. One more question... If cars generally lose around half of their value in four years, can you take that $70 grand hit over four years in depreciation cost? About the interior… it’s not the car, it’s your size. Loose weight.

I want do it like you packed with the money and afford Mercedes electric if you carry on like this the number 3 will be not enough for you to get in soon
Mercedes really dropped the ball with these, the design is simply ungainly, I am surprised it was signed off for production
They do look nicer up close - photos and videos don't do them justice. And, it is a brand new platform for them, so they wanted to make them stand out. Many don't like the look, and that is fine - there are a lot of other cars out there to select.
I honestly love it :3
@@EQS-Owneryou are right. I saw it on the street and is a very nice looking car. Thanks for the review.
I bet you like the Cybertruck?
The eqs is comparable to a s class of a GT 50
They certainly are not sub standard build quality or below average materials. They are very well made and have numerous materials in the interior. They also have a special paint primer to make it more robust to stone chips. EV are all way too heavy with the battery weight and they don’t corner quite like an ice car. But they certainly are smooth, very comfortable with air suspension and the 4 wheel steering makes it very to manoeuvre when parking. There’s very little difference in overall length between the Eqe and Eqs. Just one has a hatchback the eqe is a boot. Technology is phenomenal in the eqe and Eqs, especially the top end.
Moving on thin ice mister; maybe you should re-design your body
I see some of your challenges are due to your personal challenges, not the vehicle.
True, something to keep in mind
@@EQS-Owner Very humble response. I respect that!
That whoopie cushion on the headrest. $2 from walmart, made in china
@@arifsukoco sounds like you have a great deal with good options!
I consider the high cost to be an environmental tax. Will there be better models next year, probably. But it was time to get another vehicle and Mercedes overall has done an excellent job on these first models in my opinion. If there’s a twinge of buyer’s remorse, it’s dramatically overshadowed by the positives.
@@adamaufdencamp5080 well said!!
Me gusta eqs para La familia
Now we know why everyone buys an SUV.
The SUVs are nice
too small for a s class, and the egg shape also looks weird nothing like a Mercedes. giant screen make the car looks cheap. Hope the next generation will be better.
Well that’s a first. Haven’t heard anyone say the hyperscreen looks cheap. It’s only a £7500 option extra on some models. Crazy.
@@colinbrydon7659 EQS freefall sales figure may tell you how customer love it.
Design: looks like a 2024 Honda accord lol
So, now you know where these other car makers get their ideas👍😂
Horrible design to take away the buttons
Can't believe people actually bought this monstrosity
You save $1700 on gas the first year and lost $69,000 on devaluation at the same time. Hahahah. And your car is aerodynamic. Great thinking. Hahaha
Least he can afford one 😉
Strange that you care so much about gas prices when you buy new and super expensive cars like the EQS.
I am merely comparing the two energy sources. These videos are to help those considering getting a new expensive car make an informed decision. Just the same, someone buying a less expensive car can watch and see how much they can save in energy expenses if they go electric. The financial factors involved I discussed in my 8-month video.
Strange how you ignore the fact that it's ELECTRIC 😂
Look in the mirror, get some exercise on a regular basis, stop eating so much and you may fit in your car easier and have a longer life. The EQS is a great car and you are lucky to have such a nice car. I would love to own a car like that and get great mileage off of an EV like that. Be thankful for what you have and I wish you the best on your life journey. Another resident of North Carolina.
maybe stop stuffing stuff in your face - make it easier to get in and out of
You're way too big for this vehicle. You need a truck.
Mercedes Benz wants you to loose weight😅😅😅
Dude lose 150lbs, you will get in/out of the car much better.
@@frustratedliberal4874 thanks
the problems with getting into the car might be that you are overweight ;)
I'm sure that plays into the challenge
@@EQS-Owner EQS SUV might be the solution, its a bit higher of the ground
@@PeterJurasek the SUV is a great option. But for me, the sedan is the only choice. I often drive my parents around and stepping up is hard for them.
@@EQS-Owner i actually thought that would make things easier, but i guess this are different dimensions than cars I normally drive
No idea why this appeared on my YT feed. But that is one ugly car.
That car is so ugly. It just doesn't look like a $100k car at all. Looks nothing like the concept.
It’s a lot more than $100,000 probably nearer $160k
i almost got an EQS - so glad i didn't. it's ugly AF and a total garbage car. i got an s-class instead. also a shitty car. loaded with problems. all the touch screens are stupid - esp the touch sensitive buttons on the steering wheel. nothing is tactile. the seat buttons don't move when you push them, so your fingers get hurt. i hate this car.
