Update: Just when I thought Mercedes couldn't get any worse. This one just caught on fire in the SHOWROOM www.boston.com/news/local-news/2020/02/20/dealership-showroom-car-fire
Ur video resonated with me. About 2 years ago we got rid of our 2011 MBZ ML350. It was a great looking SUV. But there was always something wring with it and it cost a fortune to maintain. It was not reliable either. We spent thousands after a check engine light came on. Within 24hrs of getting it repaired, the check engine light came on again. We sold it the next day and bought an Infiniti. Unless I win the lottery, I will never buy another MBZ. Actually, even if I did win the lottery, I would buy a Lexus or Acura or another Infiniti.
@@CY-qg2sc I appreciate the feedback and kind words. I feel just how you do. Even if I was rich I still need a vehicle that is more than just good looks. Thats the real point here, big money is OK if you get big results. Thanks again and happy holidays to you.
@@amininshassi6370 Yes they are great choices. If you look on the road there are literally ancient Lexus's from 2000 still driving strong every day. The new ones have the same quality and pre owned is ok too.
@@SilverCymbal Yup. I guess Mercedes puts way too much tech? I honestly don't need that much luxury, even if I win the lottery. And if I win the lottery, I would take my family on a dream vacation traveling around the world. And I would also donate some of the lottery money to charities of course. In terms of which luxury I would buy, I guess I would pick the Lexus LS500. What car would you buy if you won the lottery? Just curious.
I always buy mine certified used, 2-3 years old. Half the cost of new, most of the kinks already worked out, and still have the outstanding Mercedes factory warranty service (plus they add a year extended warranty free of charge). You don't buy a Mercedes to save on the cost of gas or oil changes, you buy it because it meets your personal needs and lifestyle.
You bought the car at half life. I have a 6 year old GlE 350 and I spent 5000 on servicing this year. I used to drive a honda and never needed to understand what parts are there in the car. With this Mercedes I'm learning about new parts every day.
Tip: never buy brand new car models, Wait a year or two for the manufacture to smooth out issues. Also buy a Mercedes that was actually made in Germany, surprisingly the build quality is 100 times better.
I have seen that alot. Apparently the German ones are made very differently. Seems to make a big difference. I like their older ones a lot those seemed to be built like tanks
I just bought a GLE 350 SUV (2200 miles). It’s the nicest vehicle I’ve ever had. The interior lights don’t make it so I can’t see out the windows. The controls are VERY intuitive and easy to use. The HVAC system couldn’t be more simple. If you can’t figure it out, we’ll, that’s on you, sir. I couldn’t give a squeak about the logo being displayed “everywhere”, and I certainly didn’t pay extra for the feature. And as far as the resale issue goes: I was able to get into this GLE 350 because when I showed up for my first service interval with my previous SUV, a GLC 300, the manager of the dealership asked if I’d be interested in trading it in. Since I’d only had it for seven months, I laughed and said that I couldn’t afford the depreciation. They actually gave me almost what I paid for it AND made such a terrific deal on this GLE 350 that it would have been idiotic not to take the deal. Experiences differ. I get that. But your free trial couldn’t have been so bad that you’re warning people away from the brand. You just sound butthurt that some folks are paying over $60,000 for an SUV. It isn’t a crime to have and enjoy a few nice things.
Exactly! Love this comment dude, and as a 2021 GLE450 owner I completely disagree with what this man is saying, and literally about the sensors beeping randomly and some other stuff he mentioned, it never happens on my GLE 😂.
You cannot compare a Mercedes, bmw or Audi to Honda, Toyota. Different class of car. Different demographic of buyers. I have owned several Mercedes and currently have a e-class and have had no issues with them at all. I get all my cars serviced at a local garage but use genuine parts. Cars do not need to go back to dealers. That's a choice you make. As for servicing - my Honda Civic had a fairly standard service schedule based on mileage or time just like my e-class does. None of the Japanese cars have a 100000 mile service schedule. That's a stupid thing to say. Premium brands charge more. That works everywhere if you buy clothes, jewellery, watches, glasses.
Premium brands do charge more, but Mercedes has stupid charges that don’t really make sense. This car is also horrible at doing basic car things by making it inconvenient to drive and use the car fully. If you notice he also brought up Lexus, a premium brand. The parts in the Mercedes have lower longevity, so you need servicing for parts that aren’t necessary in a Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus until 100K. My friend has a Mercedes, and his air vent was rattling less than 6 months after he bought it. It was very annoying, and adjusting that vent became impractical. Seeing the headlights having water in them, has made me very concerned for the Mercedes build quality. Luxury brands being premium is perfectly fine. But you should get a luxury experience that makes driving easier and more comfortable for passengers. Not paying more for features that make your experience worse. If you want German, go Audi or BMW (although I’ve heard BMW’s aren’t great for reliability either). Japanese luxury brands are also excellent. But a brand that makes maintaining the car difficult through proprietary nonsense, and using cheap parts that fail quickly to nickel and dime you when you’ve paid 50-100 grand is not true luxury.
If you can’t afford it don’t buy it. But if you buy used get extended warranty you should be golden. I’ve owned Mercedes and have had no issues. BMW is allot less reliable.
You are spot on. Every Mercedes I have ever owned was far more reliable than any Acura/Honda I’ve owned. Acura and Honda have such shitty transmissions and my Benzes never have any issues. Comparing these cars to economy cars is like comparing a nice house to a shed.
@@221ddj no? Why? Good for you if you think that 60k means a house with a garage or private parking, doesn't change the fact that it is a measurement against thieves.
FreakingLunatic You can be a millionaire living in the best part of a truly urban city, I just don’t think street parking is a wise thing for $60K cars. In addition to theft, the elements and weathering make the paint look shitty,
@@221ddj in the netherlands it's common to lease a car through your own businesses or work or whatever so 60k for a car is not much. A house by the way with your own parking space and etcetera is more difficult to get. Especially with 2+ cars per family.
@@FreakingLunatic True, gotta love the Netherlands. I miss that place. Minus the weather, that's my favorite European country by far. People technically do the same thing in the states, but obviously there are differences in the culture that make it normal there and a relatively bad decision here.
I am a proud owner of MB and it’s a money pit but the ride is exceptionally smooth and nice and in an event of serious accident my chance of survival is higher than other cars out there.
Jennifer Johnson I have GL450 and GLS550, both enjoy to use. The arguments against provided are not logical. Please note, the other luxury brands are not better. You will find flaws at any of them. I just feel presenter got bios and tried to view only from a negative perspective.

@@purureddy7704 I'm in advertising and have owned pricey Merc's and Dude's like you get coaxed a lot. Merc's aren't made as qualitatively as they used to. ''Modern looking maybe'' yet frugally engineered parts is the idea here Eg Fake leather even on $100K price sticker but Americans are gullible:)) Wise up! Benz BMW & Co are the Michael Korrs of automobiles.
Trans Acumen Why single out Americans? That seems personal. Expensive MB's are sold all around the world. As for leather, I would have no problem with synthetic leather like MB-Tex. It's durable. Easy to maintain. If it's a choice, I'll choose synthetic over leather and fur. There's a market for that line of thinking.
Exactly the guy just hate Mercedes, period. I have my GLE 350 with a lot of upgrades. There's nothing to not love about this car. After 50 years driving, it is without doubts the best vehicle I've ever had.
Loved my E Class. Super reliable. I have owned several of them. 1994 e420 1995 e320 1997 e320 2015 e350 All were super reliable. Very durable. Excellent performance. In Europe they are used as taxi cabs that go over 400k miles. Most cars depreciate 50% in three years. Luxury cars even more so. Not all MB are great. Just like not all Honda and Toyota's are great. The Honda Odyssey was a lemon with a bad transmission that Honda refused to fix for over a decade. Toyota's also have 4x4 transmission issues. The S class is the pinnacle of technology. It's expensive. Well maintained they last a long time. The ML and GLE vehicles are very reliable and durable. The newer suv is junky i agree.
I've had 4 Mercedes cars in the past 10 years and I love them, thats why I keep coming back. The technology is like no other. Currently I own an 2018 S class and love it!
I bought my brand new Mercedes C300 in 2009 and performs like it's still brand new. No major issues, except when I have to replace the vacuum pump recently. I did get a 25% healthcare worker discount which really helped. Their customer service is exceptional as well. I live in California btw. Too bad you had a bad experience with it. I'd buy another Mercedes in the future in a heartbeat. Take care of your car and your car will take care of you, that's all I gotta say.
U bought a c class so it doesn't count because it's a cheaper model without all the crazy features that break and cost a lot to keep going like air ride etc
2004 sl600 just under 100k miles, well serviced all its life and garaged for two years now my daily driver and expecting at LEAST 100k more miles with the v12 engine take
If you buy expensive car and you are worried with depreciation then you should not buy expensive car, it's same with every car brand, even cheap cars depreciate rapidly that's how market works, and depreciation does not mean you lose something, that car drives to success not matter what car is, if you buy brand new Mercedes and don't earn as much as cost of new Mercedes in period you drive that Mercedes you should not own one (most of first owners change it in 5 years) . Not sure what is happening in America, but in Europe is different story with Mercedes.
I just priced a MB SL, VIN: WDDJK6FA7GF037528 / 2016 with 6,700 miles on it. Pretty new. Sold originally for $97,000 now selling for $49,000 (from a dealer too) not what someone actually got on a trade, they probably got $39k It cost them $7 per MILE to drive that car. Find a Lexus like that.
I can't understand what is with Mercedes in USA, but in Europe is different. Even crashed Mercedes cars don't lose value like you say. I can't say anything about Lexus, i have seen in my life more Mustangs(mustang is rare in eu) then Lexus cars but that's just me maybe.
@Raschaud Farmer i don't want to be advocate for MB but market changed not MB, MB quality in EU is great and they sell more cars then ever, and used car prices are ok, you can find it cheap but probably neglected or taxi, but as i said good cars even when crashed retain value, and that's not case just with MB. I still not understand problem in USA, is it bad quality or used car market is bad... Or maybe both?
Silver Cymbal It’s how the market works, cars will always depreciate it’s value, from expensive cars to the cheap cars. If you’re so worried about that, just lease a car like that, or don’t even get it. Invalid argument I see sir.
Why are german cars so reliable here in europe then? Litterally taxis prefer mercedes e classes than toyotas.. swedens taxis have most mercedes e class station wagon.
Exactly man...... If mercedes and bmw is as bad as these RUclips and website reviewers say then how come they're still operating....... Point of a luxury car is it's name... LUXURY.... It's not for the shallow pockets.
In German taxi driver get something like 40% of retail on a new Mercedes. You get nice work with a nice car. But drive cars value in quickly before the car ask for a lot of maintenance
I was never a German car fan. Mostly owned Toyota, Acura including 2019 MDX Sport Hybrid. However out of necessity (to tow a trailer) I ended up buying 2016 GLE350 (CPO at 50 % off original). I have put 7000 miles on the car with 2000 miles towing. Not one problem. Out of all my cars it's a pleasure to drive. I can tell car quality (and materials) is high. I tend to do most of my own oil changes/breaks etc. Some of the problems you listed are common for other brands too (radar covered with snow for example). LED lights you can dim it or turn it off.
You must have just got a lemon, I've owned several Mercedes GL450 and I've never experienced the issues you're talking about. I currently have a 2019 and it's functions perfectly. Maybe you should just file a lemon law case and get your money back.
I've had my Merc 4yrs bought second hand with 92 .000 on the clock ..It how has 200.000...With no major problem....it was built in Germany and I'll be buying another ...
I bought a small BMW 318 touring hatchback back in 1998. It's a European model so I guess it was made in Germany. I drive it daily and it's still as solid as a bank vault with no real major problems.
I purchased my car and I've had it for 5 years now and still runs amazingly... the dealership even repairs cosmetic stuff.. never had this happened with other brands, will have my car until it stays, I love it.
Wow, this is hard to watch! I've been a Mercedes owner for the last 14 years, E class and now GLs-Class models the last 9 years....I would never drive anything else. They are IMO the best vehicles!
Try a long term ownership with a Lexus. Mercedes/BMW/Audi are "lease only" for shoppers who know what $ pits they really are. And the resale is abysmal because of repair costs that are stratospheric.
@@islandon22 nope. Mercedes E-Class are incredibly reliable. I use FCP Euro for parts (lifetime guarantee on all parts including oil and trans fluid). Spark plugs $8ea vs $45ea at the dealer 🤷🏾♂️ Also a Mercedes oil change cost the same as any other car and they're way easier to do yourself. Literally pop the hood, shove a tube down the dipstick pipe, use an extractor, and within 5 to 10min you're done. While waiting swap in a new oil filter and change the air filter. Full Service A done, and you won't get dirty doing it. The w212 chassis are hitting 1m miles and if you look to many other countries outside the US, Mercs are the car of choice. Granted Toyotas are just as reliable. I literally just change oil, air filter and tires 🤷🏾♂️ until it's time to do spark plugs. My E350 is the most reliable car I've owned next to my old 2002 Civic SI. I've owned around 10 other vehicle's from VW, Kia, Chevy, Mitsubishi, BMW, Nissan, Honda and Toyota. The problem with Toyotas is there suspension is trash. I drive a lot and was having back problems with my Corrola then the same with the Camry and I've tried the blue gel seat pads. They just don't do well on rough roads, especially the Corrola. Mercedes-Benz cars are definitely reliable and in truth are better suited for the owner willing to turn a wrench.
@Ackj 375718 We have a GLE 350 and E300. Both have been good so far. The acceleration issues called out here are a non issue because my wife's not a lead foot. The E300 has been great too! Better than the potential 5 series I'd have thought of earlier to get.
I bought a 2009 ML 63amg in 2013, and paid $45K. Those are worth over $100K new. Nearly 160K miles on the odometer, and it still runs great! Granted, every time it needs repairs, it's pretty expensive, but this 11 year-old sport SUV still kicks ass!
@@mingpoyang True, but 503 hp is fun and obviously comes at a price! However, buying used still saves a lot of money. Now that I'm older, my priorities have changed. My wife still has the 2009 ML63, but I sold my 2013 Audi RS 5 in 2018, and now I drive a 2007 Honda CRV.....LOL!!! 😂 😂
FYI, the height of the head-up display can be adjusted so as not to obstruct your vision. The brightness of the display can be adjusted as well. It's not that hard if you actually go into the function using the steering wheel controls or just try reading the manual. Try driving a Chrysler 300 if you want to know what a real piece of crap is.
Robert Anon Except a Chrysler 300 doesn’t cost a premium arm and a leg when brand new, and a 300 doesn’t lose almost half of it’s insane premium value in just two years like a typical Merc does, and a 300 doesn’t have a million little crazy, unnecessary and expensive little electronic components that barely all work together and fail anytime the wind blows, and basic vehicle maintenance or repairs on a 300 wouldn’t cost as much as two months car payments. All in all your comparison was weak and desperate. Maybe the Chrysler 300 is a crappy car like you claim, I’ve never owned one. But if we’re going to compare a relatively dirt cheap Chrysler’s quality to that of a “premium” car like a Mercedes Benz like you’ve done then it absolutely must be pointed out that these two brands are on two completely different levels of expectations based solely on their overall effects to ones bank accounts.
Rob S I take it you either didn’t see or didn’t read the part of my comment where I said “I’ve never owned one” 🤔 The OP just made an extremely poor, weak and irrelevant comparison between Mercedes and Chrysler hence my comment. Two entirely different brands with different purposes on different planes and completely different pros and cons. Personally I’ve never owned a Chrysler and don’t plan to just talking the honest and obvious truth. Oh, and since you’re asking, I daily drive a 2006 Nissan Xterra SUV and for hobby and for fun I own a 2016 fully loaded Camaro SS that I’m in progress of heavily modifying to eventually make 700 to 800 horsepower. The very car pictured in my user profile pic.
Robert Anon When you suggest that he read the manual, you assume he is literate. If he expects heat to blow out of the center of the dash, I think you might be giving him too much credit.
The reason for a heads-up display is to be able to see your speed and other info without taking your eyes off the road. The display does not obstruct your view it blends with it. Safety is big with Mercedes and they pride themselves on it. The sensors get packed with snow and do alert you, but they are working. You can simply disable them until the snow is cleared. If it wasn't snowing, those same sensors would be saving you from an accident. You'll find all cars that have crash protection and life safety sensors will all act up when they are blocked, not a Mercedes exclusive issue. If your LED lights are too bright, you might want to dim them down a bit, pretty simple like every other adjustment you can make in any car. OK I'll give you the rear seat clearance sucks, but if you really need to sit 7 people, you're better off with a full size vehicle like a Yukon or Escalade not a smaller SUV. Oil changes can be done once a year or twice a year, your choice. They are expensive, but not much more than changing your oil every 3 - 5k miles. Add up the costs.
I’m on my 12th Mercedes and never had one of the issues you mention. Plus with snow covering the sensors in your video, I don’t know of a current vehicle/tech that that wouldn’t have similar issues...
@@dhhbtd Supply vs. demand. People that can afford to buy a lightly used luxury car can buy a brand-new luxury car ordered to their specifications and will replace said cars sooner meaning.... there are quite a few of them used but the majority of the market wants new. Basic economics.
Most luxury brands have a high depreciation rate but if you choose to purchase such an expensive vehicle why would you want to sell it 2 years later. You are better off leasing. If I am going to purchase an expensive vehicle I plan on keeping it for a long time. Luxury cars are very complex due to having so many options so you should take some time to read the owners manual to get yourself familiar with all of the vehicle’s features.
timothy wilson if you plan on keeping an expensive vehicle it only makes sense to go ahead and let those people sell it to you for half the price two years later.😂

The HUD display can be lowered to not obstruct your view. Or turned off altogether if you hate it. I only found it distracting initially, now I find it useful and help me keep my eyes on the road more.
I have a GLC 300, and have had no issues at all. Yes, the battery was expensive, but the original battery last ❤for over 5 yrs. I bought it used when it was 2 yrs old, and paid a good price. The thing I like most about it is, the ac works better than any car I have ever driven. Also, I had the car for 4 yrs and a dealership offered only $3,500.00 less than what I paid for it. And what’s even better is, I had it for about 3 months and paid it off in full.
Own two Mercedes. Have had zero issues. My favorite is the GLS450. Best sub by far. Quality is far above competitors. BTW, all cars drop significantly in value when buying new.

I think I would have titled the video "Issues (or negative points) with buying Mercedes Luxury vehicles" - rather than "Never Buy". Also, for first time buyers, they do want the aspirational value which comes with a Merc. That is also worth considering. Once you've had a few, you can see the issues and baggage which comes with it.

When I see how some people out there abuse their cars before it goes to some unsuspecting sucker, I am happy I get my cars brandnew as the only owner. Let’s not bullshit around too much. A lot of the issues a car has is also due to the owners. Most don’t take good care of their cars.
This guy is complaining about fuel mileage on a luxury vehicle. That alone should tell you his perspective. Mercedes are not made to be the best value for your money, they are made for people who can afford higher preformance, better quality interior, state of the art electronics and so on. If you have a Honda or Toyota budget stick to that price range. Not a thing wrong with that. Mercedes is not a entry lever vehicle manufacturer but a top tier luxury vehicle producer and is priced and equipped so. Signed happy 2020 GLE 63 owner.
Mercedes has bumper to bumper warranty does it not? Needs to be fixed u bring it in they give u loaner Mercedes come back pick it up. That's been my experience anyways.
I have a theory about depreciation: Excluding limited editions/productions, people who have the money for luxury vehicle want it new. There are not a lot of buyers who who pay a slightly discounted luxury price for a high end car.
Doesn’t even seem like the same company as it was 30 years ago. It’s like the opposite, instead of understated pure quality and solid reliability, they’re gaudy cheap and loaded with useless features. While these new cars end up in Junkyards there’ll still be old W123s chugging along a million miles or more.

@@SilverCymbal I agree that the old ones were more reliable but anything with fewer systems has fewer points of failure. The same applies to all car manufacturers. There is a reason why Toyota Corolla is by far more reliable than the higher end Toyotas

What were you expecting? Mercedes is not meant to be driven by cheapskates. If you have the money to buy a Mercedes, you should have the money to service it.
D Fluke Not really. If you service it on time it isn’t that expensive. If you don’t replace worn out parts on time your car will soon start to break down part by part. Many people don’t repair their cars in certified dealerships and on time, and they have to invest a lot of money to get them working again. If you service it regularly on time and in certified dealerships nothing will break down
D Fluke There are much more Mercedes salesmen around the world. The dealership in your town is not the only dealership in the world. Where I live, I can say that service is definitely not perfect but works OK. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of good and bad dealerships. I own an Audi and there is one service where all the staff is very rude and unpleasant. They are certified but still make a lot of mistakes. In the nearby town, there is another certified Audi service where the staff is really pleasant and very professional. This is whre I always service my car because I know they will take good care of it. As you can see, not every dealership is the same. I had a bad expirience with Mercedes saloons where I live but in Mostar it’s much more different because the staff and owner is not the same. I also heard many good and bad stories about Mercedes, and all of the bad rumors come from one dealership in my town. All the good ones come from the one in Mostar.
I have a 2016 C class with 50000 miles on it by now and no problems so far. Service costs at the dealership have been around $700 per year for regular A or B service. Not cheap but not overly expensive either and you're covered by the Mobilo warranty for a year if something happens. The problem with sensors icing up in the winter is a common problem with all cars more or less. The value depreciation is not as fast here in Europe, must be something to do with the american car market in general I guess.
The reason the headlights have moisture in them is because they are fully LED and dont make enough heat to "burn" off the moisture like a regular headlight that has incandescent bulbs or HID bulbs.
its weird that in finland i have never seen new mercedes or bmw suffer from water/ice inside the headlight, maybe one faylty car built in usa plant doest mean all them are bad, at least ones built in germany
@@SilverCymbal yeah, 99% of those mercedeses doesnt suffer from that issue too? So if few car of hundreds of thousands suffers some problem doesnt mean they are bad cars
The depreciation is why I bought both of my Mercedes used. I got a great price on each and love them. No squeaking and they’ve both been super reliable and comfortable. all high end luxury cars depreciate like a stone after you buy them: Lexus, BMW, even Bentley and rolls. That’s why buying used is often a smarter move if you want to own a car like that.
Great idea to let rich people with money to burn on the latest new vehicle and let them enjoy the pricey $30 per day plus $1 per mile driven depreciation.
I would hazard to guess that the majority of the individuals buying 0 mile high end mercedes are leasing rather that purchasing; ergo the CPO programs. I totally agree with you. I love having the option to purchase a vehicle that was $100,000 new for 2/3 - 1/2 the price a couple years later that is certified, and usually with an extended company warranty. Currently all of our family cars have been purchased this way, and once you pass a certain point the re-sale value levels out. The poster makes his point, but really what car company does not come with the same issues and same devaluation. The trick to owning these cars is in understanding where the parts etc. come from. Like many companies the parts etc. are not special to the car. They are often made for other cars under a different logo but identical, and much cheaper. It does not matter if you take your car to a MB dealer or a GM dealer for service you are going to get hit in the shorts, the flat rate always get you. I question the individual who owns a mercedes regardless of how wealthy they are that takes the MB to the dealership to get an oil change. Any shop can do basic maintenance, only when it comes to issues that require specific scanning tools would I go that route and even then there are plenty of Indy shops that specialize in servicing high end cars that can do anything an MB shop can do for a fraction of the price, not to mention there is so much information available online etc. it really becomes a question of how much are you willing to, can you do yourself. A $20 shop manual download will empower you and save you a lot of money. Perhaps the poster should make a video about the "potential" pitfalls of purchasing an MB and the many ways to circumvent the same instead of making one stating "never" buy a MB.
I just bought my 4th CLS and loved everyone of them. Great riding cars and very safe to drive. I will keep buying then for sure. Oh and if the costs of repairing these cars is to much for you then DON'T BUY ONE !
My 2010 grand edition CLS has been amazing. Routine servicing and tyres are all its cost me. We did have to replace the front springs after a big pothole smash but that was my fault, not the cars. IL happily buy another in the future based on my 10 yrs of ownership. Only complaint I really have is no cup holder in the front lol.
I think you just had a bad experience. I’ve had my MB for 3 years, both my sister and dad have one too, and we’ve never had any of the mechanical issues you’re referring to. Complaining that a Mercedes is expensive and loses value is just plain silly
@Capois W. LaMort They do. They are excellent cars. You still see some from the 80s with over 300k on them. They are used as Taxi Cabs all over Europe and easily get 1 million miles on them. Trouble is people buy them and try and take care of them like they are a Chevy. Perform proper maintenance they will last a long time

David Apkarian The 80s models were built much better and weren’t ruined with useless electronics. The only Mercedes I would ever own would be an early to mid 80s 300D, which is known to easily reach 300k miles. My second/third choice would be an ‘87-89 560SL or SEC.

Perhaps true for their 1970’s and 1980’s cars, which were designed by engineers, rather than accountants - but in my opinion, not so true for today’s cars (or even those of recent years).
Always good to hear another perspective. I owned and E class. It was a prestige buy and certainly not practical. I enjoyed the Mercedes experience. I also paid for $1200 alignments $650 oil changes and $800 brake maintenance. After 5 year I sold at a lost. I moved on to a Lexus. The Lexus is more of a well designed appliance without flair. However, it excellent in reliability and purpose. Cost effective luxury but lacks German flair and specialness. It will hold it value and be cheap to maintain
@@Greg-jl4wv No, that brake price is common at the dealers. I just buy my own parts (OE stuff) and have a local mechanic put them on. Cuts the cost over half.
@@Greg-jl4wv You will not get ANY Benz brakes replaced for $450. Assuming they aren't special AMG stuff, plan on $800-1200 per axle depending on the vehicle going to a Benz dealer.
If you spend $60-100k on a car. who cares if you have to spend $5 more per month on fuel than you had planned? if that is a chock for you maybe you shouldn't spend so much on a car? A and B service is $30 per month for me and it come with mobility warranty. If that is too much get a 10 year old Toyota, great value for your money. All new cars drop a lot of money in value in the first 2-3 years that's when they drop the most it is not just MB it is all cars.
I have heard some really bad horror stories about Mercedes. I do agree with a lot of what you said and I mean A LOT. However I currently own a 2018 Mercedes GLC and honestly I love it. I have owned it for 4 years. Bought it in 2019 and have had no issues. Sometimes you just get POS suv or car.
Have had numerous Mercedes in my family and every single model requires premium fuel. But I don’t understand how that’s a big deal because even a maxima recommends premium.
Hm, I am sorry for you, but I think it is a problem mostly you Americans have. Like Scotty Kilmer said, our ones over here built in Germany are way better quality. I know many taxi drivers who drive their Diesel C-Classes for hundreds of thousands of miles without problems. However I do agree that the more technical stuff you have, the more is gonna break. I also don't think every assistant is needed. And I have to admit that the maintenance costs are insane. Hopefully Mercedes will go back to where they were in the early 90s: Big price, but even bigger amount of quality.
I agree with you he may be right about the German built models since there does seem to be a difference. The mega electronic scare me a lot too, the beauty of the old classic Mercedes today is that they don't have all those electronics and can last a long time. I don't think that's the plan these days.
@D Fluke Yeah but again, you buy the wrong ones. Buy W204 C-Class. These things don't need much service at all. I know a C180K Supercharged that went 500k miles in a car magazine's test and still runs. Buy the low/ mid range cars, not the huge SUVs or S-Classes. Those are a big risk. And don't service it every year at a Mercedes dealership. Go to a free workshop, they do it for half of the price. Same for BMW and Audi.
@@mitchigan7141 No I am not. I do have rust problems with my 2001 C-Class, and I admit that the Quality back then was a disaster, but besides that, there aren't any problems. And I personally know people who have newer models and they can't complain either. However I believe you if you say that your model had some problems, but from my point of view everything is fine, except ridiculous workshop prices.
In the winter when there is snow and ice covering the sensor any car is going to do that same thing....drive you nuts😁.. 1. Buy your Mercedes "Pre Owned" about 2years old . It will save $30,000 2. Research which cars and engines don't break down or have trouble 3. Check to find a good MB mechanic in your area. Don't go to the dealer unless you have to 4. Buy the best oil and gasoline as required by the car 5. Keep it washed and waxed every week. The paint job will look like new.
I bought my 2001 ML 320 new and I’ve loved it for nearly 20 years (137,000 miles). Maintenance has averaged $120.00 per month after the four year warranty - I keep detailed records. I like to compare that cost with the cost of replacing a car I really like and enjoy.
I completely agree those MLs from those days were made like old Mercedes and they still have good resale value. Fast forward ahead, you will not find the same level built in todays vehicles.

Great video. All true. I love my Porsche but it's the same with service. I ended up just doing the service myself. One difference is the Porsche interiors and are amazing. Quality and ease of use.
What I love about Porsche is that a lot of owners do just what you do, and enjoy the work themselves. You can see this represented on RUclips. Mercedes on the other hand goes two ways, under 5 years old 99% of owners are at a dealer, and thus no owner to owner support. After 5 years they go into a different market and the value gets so low that wrenching them yourself makes more sense but then a lot more goes wrong. Porsche is the opposite, they seem to be very well respected even when quite old. Big difference for them.
lesson learned, get a used Mercedes at a huge discount. It seems like you've turned on the interior LED to it's maximum brightness, and if you finds the interior lighting glaring, you can always reduce the brightness or turn them off completely.
We bought a new lexus in australia, but we looked at other luxury brands as well . Then we decided to buy a lexus and i tell you what , they really, really go out of their way to give you the best ownership experience ever and i mean they look after their customers, it is an incredible beautiful experience. My friend just got a brand new 2021 GLE 53 AMG. Turbo already had to be replaced twice within the first few months. Of course factory tow package does not come with a brake controller for him to tow an Airstream, so he's been trying to figure out how to get a brake controller to work with it to no avail. But some people are just meant to own these cars and they are way beyond money/practicality, so I'm happy for them.
It is obvious that this guy has never owned a Mercedes. First he admits at the beginning that he had "access" to the car in this video for a week or so. That means it is a rental. I have owned, or leased, Mercedes vehicles for the last 20 years. Sure there have been issues, but at the end of the day, name one machine that has zero issues, which is what this guy is expecting. Currently I have an AMG C63 which I leased two years ago and I have had zero issues. Maybe this guy should try actually getting a Mercedes rather than renting one.
Yea I will never buy a Mercedes again, always was in the shop, I just bought 2013 Lexus ES and it’s a dream . Please listen everyone, yes perhaps the older Mercedes that were made in Germany last long but the ones now past the year 2003 , most of them are always breaking down

You are spot on. Every Mercedes I have ever owned was far more reliable than any Acura/Honda I’ve owned. Acura and Honda have such shitty transmissions and my Benzes never have any issues. Comparing these cars to economy cars is like comparing a nice house to a shed.

@Raschaud Farmer Sir you understand the point exactly!
Silver Cymbal It’s how the market works, cars will always depreciate it’s value, from expensive cars to the cheap cars. If you’re so worried about that, just lease a car like that, or don’t even get it. Invalid
argument I see sir.
Why are german cars so reliable here in europe then? Litterally taxis prefer mercedes e classes than toyotas.. swedens taxis have most mercedes e class station wagon.
Maybe because like Toyota cars built in Japan have better QA testing then American or Outsourced manufacturing plants?
Exactly man...... If mercedes and bmw is as bad as these RUclips and website reviewers say then how come they're still operating....... Point of a luxury car is it's name... LUXURY.... It's not for the shallow pockets.
In German taxi driver get something like 40% of retail on a new Mercedes. You get nice work with a nice car. But drive cars value in quickly before the car ask for a lot of maintenance
In Germany Mercedes is playing on its reputation... the scrutiny is more intense and QA including inspections (TÜV) are rigide.
In the USA not such...
The work well also in the deserts of Africa and the Middle East. That must be saying something.

You must have just got a lemon, I've owned several Mercedes GL450 and I've never experienced the issues you're talking about. I currently have a 2019 and it's functions perfectly. Maybe you should just file a lemon law case and get your money back.

Spark plugs $8ea vs $45ea at the dealer 🤷🏾♂️
Also a Mercedes oil change cost the same as any other car and they're way easier to do yourself.

Sawashi32 I take it you drive a Chrysler 300? 😂

Sawashi32 And yet the reviewer in this video does just that when he uses Toyota and Mercedes in the same sentence. 🍏 to 🍊
The reason for a heads-up display is to be able to see your speed and other info without taking your eyes off the road.
Would not be without the HUD
I’m on my 12th Mercedes and never had one of the issues you mention. Plus with snow covering the sensors in your video, I don’t know of a current vehicle/tech that that wouldn’t have similar issues...
Exactly I've owned other vehicles that did the same thing when the sensors are covered or dirty.
If they are so reliable then why their value drops so much?

Not really.

There are much more Mercedes salesmen around the world.
You would spend $800+ for a 50k service at Ford. Your MB is the right choice
No problem here in Australia. You like cheap things, then Mercedes-Benz is not for you.
The reason the headlights have moisture in them is because they are fully LED and dont make enough heat to "burn" off the moisture like a regular headlight that has incandescent bulbs or HID bulbs.

@@Windsofchange2023 an old one. 2011 S212 E300 estate wagon. More problems since I made this comment 2 years ago. 9 mechanical breakdown insurance claims in 2 years.
@@Windsofchange2023 I still have this Merc, but I’m back to driving Toyota (Vellfire). The Merc spends way too much time in the workshop.
another outrageous perk is that configuring a Mercedes you discover that most features are optional, and can substantially increase the car price
But at least with a Mercedes, even base models are loaded with features that most buyers won't need. In fact, a loaded Toyota Highlander costs around the same as a base GLE with the same amount if features
Try a cheap Asian car.
Scotty Kilmer called, he wants his schtick back. 📱
REV UP YOUR MERCEDES SHIT BOXES!
Haha
They build great cars- that is why they are expensive and it you take care of it they last forever.
Then you were getting ripped tf off . 100 dollar alignment at dealership in Nc . 200 max oil change . Break change a little pricey 450
@@MrStangdawg Well, there's your problem. Don't go to a dealer.
I work for Mercedes. Those costs are totally inaccurate. You got ripped by that dealer
Sometimes you just get POS suv or car.
how much miles are on the odometer? I'm considering getting a 2017 GLC myself, is maintenance expensive?
Wait hold up so your telling me it was a shock to you to use 91 octane in a luxury vehicle 😂
For an AMG no, but for this mid size "family" suv, yes and I think for many others they are shocked to see how much more they must spend on fuel
Silver Cymbal I wouldn’t be shocked, it’s a Mercedes
Sébastien Fischer right, this guy is clueless. Drive a Corolla and stfu
Silver Cymbal It’s a mercedes...if you have money to pay a 80k lease or loan then you can pay for premium gas. Perks of having a mercedes..
Der Wolf Sounds like you’re all theory. I have a German made C-class and it’s the worst car i ever had.
But let me tell you something Mercedes literally has the best all-wheel drive system in the world, my has the 4matic+ system and it keeps me safe driving in winter, That's all that matters to me 👍
What other brands have you driven that make you say “best”? What are you comparing it to?
Audi has the best all wheel drive between Mercedes and bmw
Audi's quattro
I don't think it's better than quattro or subaru
Hey listen everybody has their own opinions you know.. from experience of driving many cars I find the 4matic system is the best in the snow... for me at least..👍
in my country people say that mercedes are best after their engines pass 100k miles. i have never understood why americans have so many problems with mercedes. they arr in my opinion most reliable cars. uncle drives one made in 2003 c class. over 400k miles. amd just regular service he has done. nothing major broke. changed brake pads and disks, engine chain replacement after 100k, no rust, no electrical issues, still on the original wheels just tyre change.
We own a 2018 gle350 we owned it for 2 years now no problems
I still love ❤️ Mercedes
My family own other Benz models for years but still no problems
You are lucky. The quality isn't what it used to be, this just in: Mercedes explodes while still at the dealer! www.boston.com/news/local-news/2020/02/20/dealership-showroom-car-fire

I love the AMG E63. I know it has a ridiculous amount of electronics that will go wrong. In about 5-7 years though. They are great cars with a warranty
Feel like the older mercedes are more reliable than the newer once, less tech.
Love the 80s Mercedes. The most durable, best quality materials, built like tanks. The W124 can go million miles
1. Buy your Mercedes "Pre Owned" about 2years old . It will save $30,000
2. Research which cars and engines don't break down or have trouble
3. Check to find a good MB mechanic in your area. Don't go to the dealer unless you have to
4. Buy the best oil and gasoline as required by the car
@@SilverCymbal we got the first run of the ML when it came out. 1998 ml320. car still runs! its been reliable. but I'd have to disagree with you on build quality. fit and finish was garbage. even for its day. squeaks creeks and rattles from day 1. paid $1k extra for a BOSE stereo. more like BLOWS. subwoofer rattled the doors. cheap plastic everywhere. this was the era of cost cutting. build quality still hasn't come back to what it was in the 70s and 80s. BUT fit and finish is waaay better than it was in the mid 90s early 2000s. That being said, the motor on the ML320 is still running like a champ!
My Mercedes-Benz GLC hasn't had any problems you mention till now, I brought it a few years ago and it's still in great condition...

In 18 months I have to take my GLE 7 times to the dealers for repair/changing sensors, l got rid of it soon after that terrible experience
If you look in the forums online there are many issues like this. I was also very disappointed with the repair center at the dealer. They were terrible. Sorry you had a bad experience also.
Great Video. Forgot the mention all the cheap plastic Mercedes is using for their "high-end" vehicles. They use to be way more luxurious, practical, and durable back in the days.
Agree 100%. The old ones were beyond amazing. These are living off that legacy but fail to deliver
I got a 2010 MB c class and my wife has a 2015 Audi A3. My MB runs after 170k(km) no problem at all not even a little plastic, but the Audi only run 40k and it’s start leaking coolant from water pump. I already convinced my wife to buy a MB for next car and she like it :)
i feel like more people should do their research before buying cars like these. looking at the comments, it seems that some people didn’t. you have to know what you’re about to get yourself into !
My dad use to have an 2010 e250 then A 2012 E350 then 2017 e220 then 2019 S400dL amg line exclusive premium +
All has been amazing
notice he kinda got one every few years to help avoid major maintenance tho :/
What I love about Porsche is that they don’t rust.
It doesn't pay to buy a brand new car. Buy certified used and let someone else eat the principal and depreciation.
Go and buy Fiat. You cant scerry me. Im a Mercedes fan.
Fiat....Now we really have hit all time lows. Waiting for them to leave the US for a second time.
Funny you said that. I don’t need to buy a Fiat. I have a MB that rusts like one, and has even more mechanical issues. Ive had both.
Fiat always module problems
Tell him🤣
lesson learned, get a used Mercedes at a huge discount.
I do love other luxury brands but they don't come anywhere near lexus and that is fact.
I agree, plus the cars last forever. I have a 10 year old Lexus convertible that is still flawless.
@@SilverCymbal Sounds like a nice car @Silver Cymbal .
My car gave me same problem after I bought it brand new !! I ended up in a car accident after the car move itself automatically and hit a poll.
This video is spot on! Mercedes says the best or nothing but that couldn’t be further from the truth
He must be a bmw owner
Yea I will never buy a Mercedes again, always was in the shop, I just bought 2013 Lexus ES and it’s a dream . Please listen everyone, yes perhaps the older Mercedes that were made in Germany last long but the ones now past the year 2003 , most of them are always breaking down
100% agree. The old ones were very different. They suck you in at the dealer with glitz, after that the excitement wears off quick.
The only thing I hate about Mercedes is that service is so expensive
Sure is. There are some interesting videos on YT stating that the rotors are setup in a such a way that you must replace them with the pads every time, not sure if it's true but he seemed pretty convinced. If that's true that could add up big time.

if you want a Mercedes and you MUST have one, just lease the dang thing, then get it out of your system.
This is deifnitely the best way. Enjoy the first few years without the hook of deprecation or problems. Absolutely
My feelings exactly, but not just Mercedes - any ''high end'' vehicle.
Silver Cymbal I haven’t personally leased these before, but I believe they calculate the vehicle depreciation into your lease? Either way when the lease ends you’ll be avoiding 50k+ mile problems or maintenance out of warranty if you do no have time to DIY stuff on these cars.

Absolutely nonsense video. Don’t own a Merc if you cannot afford the service costs. Of course you should have some hefty bank balance. You are not even familiar with the electronics and infotainment systems Learn it before you operate your vehicle. Tesla infotainment is even more complicated. Funny part he was showing that the rear seat opening. Gle is 5 seated SUV. Not a 7 seated. The 7 inch opening of retracting back seat is not for the entrance to the rear boot space. It’s to increase the store space of boot. You can keep some extra luggage while you retract that seat forward. I am damn sure that this guy is not the owner of that gle.he is Jealous and spreading nonsense throughout this video.
What are you talking about? This GLE has a rear seat, this is a 7 passenger model. Are you sure you are on the right video?
That's because the third row is optional, not standard. The GLE can be a 5 passenger or a 7 passenger SUV depending on how you order it.
Ok shill
With Mercedes it's pay to play baby! I still love them, mostly the pre 2009 models. If you enjoy working on cars some of the maintenance can be done much cheaper. But you're right resale value sucks and the fine line of technology to make driving a bit more enjoyable vs way overboard have been crossed with these "luxury" cars.
Yes, stick to the older ones. Otherwise it's pay to keep paying, with little play happening.
