    I just bought the DTX6. It`s excellent. My favourite thing about it is the training functions. The Rhythm Gate and Triplet Gate functions are the best thing that`s ever happened to my drumming. It`s like having a personal trainer who is brutally honest and precise in its judgement. It`s cleaning up my playing and showing my weaknesses like nothing I have ever tried. I wish I had this technology years ago. It tracks all my strikes on the snare, HH, BD, toms, and crashes simultaneously and gives a % accuracy read out at the end of the timed exercise. Ripping cool. Don`t hesitate to buy this kit or one of the other higher end kits. The silicone pads feel amazing too and I love the zones and positional sensing on the cymbals.

      @@williamperri3437 Actually that was originally a preset kit but it was easier if I said I'd done it so I changed it very slightly. The original acoustic drum sound is shortened to make sure it doesn't decay longer than the gated sound 'tail'. It was shortened just by using the decay function. Its easy to lengthen it again. However, you dont have total control over the gate reverb length but its easy to use combinations of fx to make it sound like it is longer. That is just one instance of gated reverb. You could put another onto the other FX processor and layer both, or choose something else which compliments it.

    Simon, it's done! After all these years, the kit that started as a DTXplorer is now finished. RS40 rack, 3-PCY135 cymbals, RHH135 HH, XP100 snare, 3 - XP80 toms, KP65 kick and received today, my DTX-Pro module. Now to figure out how to program the module. With all the time it’s going to take to do this, I’m glad I’m retired 🙂. Unlike the DTX502 which had on the fly Maple, Birch, Beech & Oak kits, I have to look into how to get these kits on the Pro.

    Fab video, Simon, thank you! :-) Seriously considering the DTX6 - either the k2-x or the k3-x, for home use. I've dabbled on drums a bit over the years and only really started taking it seriously - on an entry-level Roland kit - in December 2020. I've already done loads of practice - on rudiments and playing along with lots of different tracks (getting up to about Trinity Grade 4 level). I've still got loads of things to learn and improve but feel I already need something with a bit more control and dynamic range. The DTX6 looks like it could do the job, so thanks for your superb guided video tour. :-)

    Thanks for that Simon, I've watched this a good few times and just swapped out my dtx700 module for the pro today, pretty much thanks to you! The sound difference is insane!. I'm just a beginner so even this is probably overkill for what I need, but I will miss a few functions from the 700, e.g. the easily accessible mixer. Having said that, I'm enamored with the sounds straight out of the box - can't wait to dig deeper into it.

  • @wuffb
    @wuffb 3 года назад +3

    Okay . . . so now I have had the module for about a month now . . . and here are my current observations . . . 1) XP80 pads are FAR more enjoyable to play than the rubber or XP70s. Now the XP80s are THREE Zone, so when you connect them to the TOM inputs, expect some MULTI Voice triggering . . . no problem, just use the INDV Voice in the Voice edit menu and set the Rims to (No Assign). Then the XP80 will function like a regular XP70 tom. 2) I stand by my first comment in that the silicone pads are NOT as comfortable to play as the Roland Mesh Pads. If you play light, you will LOVE the silicone pads for their response, feel and comfort, but if you try to ROCK OUT, the shock from harder strokes on the rims really become fatiguing almost painful after a about an 1/2 hour of play. 3) The KP90 is great IF you like to heel up and lay into your kick drum, but if you look closely at the pad, it "bulges outward" unlike the KP65 or 100 or Rolands . . . that "bulge out" can cause a bunch of double triggering EVEN when you have the "MinLevel" set to 10 or below. Have moved beater head location OFF CENTER and it seems to have greatly reduced the double triggers. 4) I have found that using the SAME voice at Different Tunings creates a far smoother tom group than following the Instrument SIZE differentials AHM 10 or 12 etc. 5) LOVE the Layering!!! You really can "round out" your INSTRUMENT sound by adding just a layer or two and tweaking the voice filters. 6) Have almost eliminated "machine gunning" of the snare and am SO happy with that vs. the Roland SuperNatural. It required layering of THREE snare sounds, setting different EQs for each, of course having "humanize" in ON position and setting sensitivities at different levels. It's like having the pad trigger three snares with different release and transients at the same time and the overlap creates just enough "imperfection" to sound real. It's still there a little, but you have to REALLY listen for it. 7) Dump "The Rack" right away, set up the pads and cymbals on "stands" so you can space the drums wider and closer to your acoustic setup. It really makes the kit more fun and natural to play. 8) The Roland CY-5 high hat works with the Yamaha HH Control pedal and is more comfortable to play than any of the Yamaha Hi Hat setups I tried. 9) Oh yeah, and be prepared to change ALL of these settings when you move from headphones to PA speakers LOL . . . but that's the same with all E-Kits. For Reference, I am using Sennheiser HD25 Headphones and EV ZLX-15BT Speakers. I have also used Roland Mesh Pads with this module . . . the key is NOT to use the Yamaha Cables with the Roland Pads, use regular guitar cables (eliminates the multi voice pad triggering, but also locks you into one voice per pad. Roland Ride Cymbal does NOT work with this module effectively because Roland uses different cables for Bell and Bow. Yamaha has one cable for both. Which by the way makes setting up for a gig easier. Can't tell you how many times in low light I put the wrong Roland cable in the wrong socket and had to redo the connection LOL!! Please note: I am NOT a product expert, I am a user who is just sharing what I have found from a "user" perspective!

    Okay . . . I've had this module for about two weeks now (and I own some Roland kits too) and some first impressions . . . 1) The customization capabilities are far beyond the 502 . . . that being said, they are pretty much close to the Roland TD-15 module of a few generations ago (although the Roland is synth voices, not sampled). The menus and not centralized which is very frustrating . . . you can tune a limited range from the INST menu at the top . . . but ALSO from the Voice menu which has it's OWN range?? Why not have TUNE be TUNE?? Instead of TWO different areas. 2) The EQ capabilities are EXCELLENT with both Voice, Kit and Headphone adjustments possible . . . but balancing the THREE messes with each other . . . uggh! 3) The recorded sample sounds are good, but very limited . . . it's the customizations that are the saving grace here . . . not the core samples . . . no Beech Custom, No PHX, No Maple Custom, No Recording Custom . . . pretty much JUST Absolute Hybrid . . . and a bunch of effects on the same core. Only a couple of snare core sounds . . . I REALLY hope they have plans to expand the core sound bank. 4) Simon is dead on . . . the Pad Lock button is VERY important . . . don't skip that step when customizing a voice / layers . . . oh, and don't forget to turn it off when your done LOL!!!. 5) Volume has it's own menu under kit edit for multiple things . . . but WHY?? Voice should be VOICE and EVERYTHING associated with modifying the VOICE which Roland makes much easier. To customize a pad, you have to go thru several menus back and forth to get what you want . . . in Roland, it's INSTRUMENT and ALL the instrument modifications are right there in one list. Then you go out modify global settings. Yamaha's are scattered under Utilities, Kit Edit, etc. By the way, the KP90 is WORTH THE UPGRADE !!! So much better than the old KP65!!! Even if you stay with a 502 . . . GET THE KP90 and your WHOLE Kit becomes SO much more fun . . . especially if you play "heel up" on your kick! 6) Stay AWAY from the KNOB adjustments UNTIL you have your User kit preferences dialed in!! They just ADD to the MESS!! Set EVERYTHING FLAT . . . select the voice closest to your liking for each pad . . . Then use VOICE EQ to make each voice as close to how you want it . . . THEN, set your voice volumes, THEN start your instrument effects . . . keep the global settings ALL neutral until your get that core sound . . . THEN start messing with the mix menu .. . LASTLY start putting in the effects and finally the full Kit EQ outputs. If you don't have a process for getting thru all of these settings, you will go crazy as every one affects the others . . . 7) The enclosed User manual is a JOKE . . . it's almost USELESS . . . Go get the REFERENCE MANUAL online, because it doesn't seem to come with the kit, and read THAT!!! Do I like this module . . . HELL YEAH! Is it easy to use right out of the box . . . yeah . . . but when you decide you really want to start making your own sounding kit . . . get ready for a LOT of tweaking!!!

      BTW, how are the dynamics on the kit? Did you get the full foam pads or the rubber tom kit?

    • @wuffb
      @wuffb 3 года назад

      @@jeffgermanich8105 Hi Jeff . . . I have a full set of the silicon pads . . . XP80 for snare and floor tom, XP70s for Rack toms. I also have the rubber pads from an earlier Yamaha DTX 502 kit, but I hate them. The XP80s are three zone so you can do a lot with them. The XP70s I did not see separate voice options for the pad and rim like you have in the Rolands. But I am still learning this kit. The cymbals except for the Ride (which has three zones), seem single zone, the rolands had two zones with three on the ride. NOTE: Roland Pads DID work with this HOWEVER, you have to use a SINGLE pole line (like a regular guitar cord) . . . IF you use the Yamaha multi pole cables with the rolands, you get multi voice triggering. THAT being said . . . I tried out a Roland CY-5 Hi Hat pad with Roland FD-8 Hi Hat Pedal and it works PERFECTLY! A cool option.

    • @wuffb
      @wuffb 3 года назад

      I found out from a wiring video that the Roland Hi Hat uses TWO pole wiring (two wires instead of the normal three) in both the hi hat and hi hat controller wires . . . so that is why it had no problem with the Yamaha 502 or DTX Pro.

    • @jeffgermanich8105
      @jeffgermanich8105 3 года назад

      That's interesting regarding the Roland hi hat. I was thinking using Roland mesh pads instead of the Yamaha rubber pads. The tom inputs will take a 2 piezo pad. So this sounds good.

  • @wuffb
    @wuffb 3 года назад +1

    Okay . . . another update!! Today I tried my Roland 120 Kick Pad with the Yamaha DTX module and it worked GREAT!!! NO double triggering at all like with the Yamaha KP90. No the REAL Funny part . . . I tried the Yamaha KP90 with my Roland TD-15 and it ALSO worked GREAT . . . with NO double triggering!!! So currently I would say the Roland Kick works BETTER with the Yamaha DTX Pro than the Yamaha KP90 . . . AND the KP90 works BETTER with the Roland Module than the Roland does!!! Just note, the voltage sends must be a little different . . . when using the KP90 with the Roland, turn the volume dial down a little (the one ON the Pad itself) . . . when using the Roland with the Yamaha, turn the volume up on the module one notch.

    Hi Simon, thank you for the time you spent learning the settings on this kit and for your ability to teach in an easy to follow method. I finished assembling my DTX6K3-X two days ago and I’m learning how to play. I’m curious if there is a repository of users favorite kits anywhere. With the possibility of 200 different user presets, I’m hoping some people have documented some of their favorites to share with us newbies.

    Simon, this video is incredible. So detailed. Yamaha really owe you one as you've essentially created a how-to video for them.
    I'm a beginner. I own an acoustic kit bought used years ago and has been gathering dust. Recently decided to start learning so signed up to Drumeo. However, since covid, my wife permanently works from home so I cannot practice at times that suit me.
    So I need to go electronic. This kit is way more than I need and I'd probably need to become a semi decent intermediate player before I'd start to scratch the surface of this kit's capabilities.
    HOWEVER, I'm thinking that if I take the plunge with this, or similar priced set, the high cost spent will encourage me to commit to practice longer and harder. (We always find ways to justification our spluges).
    So as this kit has smaller pads, would you say this is a bad choice for a beginner?
    Most reviews I've seen suggest the only significant fault with this set is the small pad size for its price point.
    So if I can afford it, is this kit too much for a beginner? Or would you suggest I go for something far simpler? If so, any recommendations?

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo  2 года назад +2

      Thats very kind of you. What you may have missed is that I'm one of Yamaha European demonstrators and I also work in product development for them (but I'm not an employee), so I'm very familiar with these kits. I did this video off my own back, really to show how capable they are - its not a Yamaha video. I, of course, try all the competitions kits, so I'm familiar with everything on the market, which helps when planning. The pad size thing is mainly psychological - any decent drummer is only going to hit the centre of their drums anyway, so they get a consistent sound, so the pad size doesn't really wash with me - I want a great sounding kit over anything else. These kits would totally be good for a beginner - even though it is very capable, most users will only change kits and then use the Kit Modifier knobs to fine tune each kit. Most users will never get into the fine details (which is another reason why I wanted to do these videos - everyone responds to different ideas, so if I tried to show as much as possible, I had more chance of getting a few 'bullseyes') and that is fine - use what you need, rather than what you feel you should use. Thank you for watching, and reaching out - always nice to get a reaction!

    • @3pointedshr
      @3pointedshr 2 года назад +1

      Ah I hadn't realised you have an affiliation with Yamaha but still, this video is an invaluable resource tool for this very sofisticated module.
      I get what you're saying about pad sizes.
      If you feel a lot of people will only tweak the modifier knobs on the DTXPRO, do you think/know if Yamaha will be bringing out a simplified version of this module for the 4 or 5 series in the future?

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo  2 года назад +1

      @@3pointedshr Hi. I'm afraid I cant comment on future products. However, changing kits and moving 3 knobs (the modifiers) is hardly taxing. I cant really see a need to simplify this module more than it is - no one is forcing anyone to use the parts they don't need or understand. Thats the great thing - this module works for any ability, from complete beginner to much more experienced user. I did the UK Drum Show a couple of weekends ago, and many people were saying they liked how simple the Pro module was as they only had to change kits and then they had limitless ability to tweak the kits to their needs using the modifiers without touching anything else. You need to try it - its much simpler than I think you think it is!

    • @3pointedshr
      @3pointedshr 2 года назад

      @@edruminfo Hi Simon, thanks for the reply. Apologies I don't think I made my point very clear (my fault not yours). I was suggesting that as the DTX Pro module has so many features that only intermediate users and above would use, would Yamaha introduce a lesser version of the module for the 4 or 5 series of their future kits that only had the modifier section of the current DTX Pro module, thus stripping away a lot of the more advanced features?
      But reading your last response it seems the current module already covers everyone from beginer to above so no need for a dumbed down version.

I haven't spent that much time with the TCS versions of the new pads yet (when Ive been using them, I didn't check the difference in feel) but if they are like the XP pads there will be 2 tensions of 12" (snare and tom) and the 10" pads will be between the two. As a lefty my hat is on my right and my floor tom on my left, yet the audio has them the other way round. This is a shame as the older, cheaper DTX4K had the ability to reverse this audio.
    Fine if you're right handed, but at the price it would be nice to switch the audio. As it is, all I can do is wear cheapo iems, as good iems have ear hooks designed for the right ears, as do headphones.

    Great video Simon, pretty much single handedly sold me on the kit! In the manual it looks like you can plug in an external midi device to trigger sources not being triggered by the pads on the kit. How much control do you get over this? E.g. could I connect a DTX M12 and trigger the tom 1 rim and pad 3 input sources from it, while triggering the tom 1 head from the pad on the kit?

      Hi Mark Thank you, pleased you enjoyed it. Yes, full MIDI functionality, so you can trigger (as you say) the rim of tom 1 from the M12 etc. The only think you can't do it trigger sounds which aren't linked to a pad zone ie you can't assign a sample to a midi note (say A1) and trigger it from the M12 as A1 isn't linked to an existing pad zone. I hope that makes sense.

    One more question. Could this module work with other brand's pads and Cymbals; At the back of the unit there is the inputs for 14(?) pads some of which are double (two pads in one plug). How is that working?

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo  3 года назад +2

      Hi Mike. Yes, I would agree that silicone pads are quieter than most mesh pads - many mesh pads have a hi pitch rattle to them, where as silicone has a lower pitch and less impact sound. The module will work with other drum pads. However, the PRO will only work with Yamaha cymbal pads if you want 3 zones. Regarding the inputs, please look at the answer I gave to Gregory Haworth (below, depending on how RUclips is displaying on your device!) regarding the XP80 pads. Everything you need to know is in that answer.

      @@JohnnyAbe I'm gong to chime in here as I have several Roland Kits and the Yamaha 502 and DTX Pro. Both can be VERY enjoyable, BOTH require some tweaking with good headphones, but LOTS of tweaking with speaker/PA systems. Both have ambience, compression, velocity curve, EQ settings, etc. BOTH can give you machine gunning effects on rapid snare play (even with Yamaha Humanization on and Roland's SuperNatural). Pay attention to the PADS and Cymbals!!! I find the Yamaha silicone pads much more enjoyable to play for light velocity play. However, when you want to "rock out" . . . the Roland Mesh pads are much more rewarding in player feedback. I also find the velocity curve in the Yamaha's to be much more sensitive than the Rolands, the Yamaha's seem to "jump volume levels" as you raise and lower your velocity of play where as the Rolands were much smoother. The "sampled" sound of the Yamaha's sound more "authentic" to me over a PA system than the "modeled" Roland sounds . . . especially in the "toms" area. BOTH deliver outstanding percussion sounds for hybrid kit use. The Roland Cymbals are softer to play so I get less fatigue from tapping them and they are a little quieter. The Yamaha silicone pads are quieter than the Roland Mesh pads. To me, the best of both would be Yamaha silicon pads with Roland Cymbals LOL! The crosssticking on Yamaha is far superior to the Roland UNLESS you dedicate a pad or trigger to that voice. Roland "voices" have tone whereas the Yamahas each have three band EQ . . . Roland Toms have "snare buzz" you can add easily to make the kit sound more authentic. Yamaha's recorded rack tom sounds seem to include snare buzz and trying to EQ it out is a bit annoying because it's not there on the floor tom selections. For gigging Yamaha would be the way to go for me for one VERY important reason . . . it uses separate cables for each pad, Roland has a harness the breaks out into cables. If something goes wrong with that harness at a gig, you're dead. If a cable goes bad with the Yamaha, you just get an extra cable from your guitar player and you're back in business. LOTS to think about I know!! I hope this helps a little.

    Hey Simon, first of all thanks for this really informative and well structured Video😃
    During the video I noticed, that the cymbals sound very hard when you hit them. I always played acoustic kits and real cymbals have a specific way of how the sound builds up when you hit them.
    Can you tune the sound to make for example the Ride cymbal sound more like a big ‚washy‘ sounding Jazz Ride to reproduce a more realistic cymbal sound?🤔

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo  3 года назад +2

      Hi Chris. You can edit the cymbals in many, many ways, so yes, you can change them to be however you want. You can use any cymbal as anything, so if you want to make a pair of hi hats from some splashes, you can. If you want to make a very thin ride from a crash, you can. The options are endless. You can even take the bell from one cymbals, the bow from another and the edge from a third if that gets you the sound you want. The reason the cymbals sound 'hard' is that RUclips adds heavy compression onto all its videos to even up the sound, so even when I'm playing lightly, it will sound loud. Thats RUclips, not the kit.

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo  3 года назад

      Hi. Not always. It depends on the room that the drums are recorded in. Often the drums are close mic'ed and the room has ambience mics, just to pick up the sound/character of the room. Then the two are blended to make the final recorded drum sound. Most studios are quite dry sounding so the producer has flexibility to create the final sound, by using the close mic'ed drums, the room sound, and/or digital reverb or other FX. If drums are recorded in a big hard space, like a church, then there it is likely that the ambience would be loud enough to be heard down the microphones, but it would also be annoying as there would be no way of getting rid of the ambience. But going with the method above, the drum sound can be altered afterwards to make it more or less 'roomy', just like you can on the module.

      ps mixing the correct space on top is vital to know your reverbs too and the correct application of plates, as different compressors will vastly affect the outcome when mixing, yamaha have good engineers doing the samples though, i would always leave compression off though in the module as you cant undo it later when mixing, a little goes a long way esp when using verbs and commiting, good video

      @@Bcwilderness Great! You know what you're talking about then! Yes - when these drums and cymbals were recorded, as I mentioned in the video, the rooms were also mic'ed. So what makes this kit different is every pad hit triggers 4 audio files - left and right close mics and left and right ambience channels. The ambience channels are the actual room recordings made at the same time as the sample hit (not after). So by changing the Ambience knob (1%-50%) amount you can add or subtract more or less room ambience for the whole kit by adding the distance mics. So what I mean to stress is it's not digital reverb, but 2 more simutaneaous audio files. With the Ambience knob you *can* also add digital reverb on top (51%-100%) if you want, but the main ambience is room audio from distance mics recorded at the same time as each hit. No, you're right, of course we avoided anechoic chambers (!), but the dry (no ambience sound) has very little room reflection. And yes, I agree, the engineers know what they are doing! Thanks for watching it. Simon

      @@edruminfo yes they have come a long way for us drummers the last few years as guitarists have all the fun, im hoping to blend the outputs from this brain against the sound from ssd5 as some of the packs are superb and when the multi sensing snare comes out it should make a big diff, as a lot of live kits when recorded and mixed sound quite like a sampled kit anyway, but in the grand scheme of it the snare is the most important to have some different samples triggering, exciting stuff for sure, the ride is important though driving through a song internal dynamics are what the purists always argue over versus the machine gun effect of older drum brains, i will be biting the bullet on this lovely the weekend for sure, many thanks again :)

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo  3 года назад +2

      Machine gunning is caused by too few samples or too much attack on the sound. The DTX6 has plenty of samples, so if you do hear machine-gunning it is down to there being too much attack on the sounds (which is made worse by RUclips's compression). However, on the DTX6 you have Transient adjustment, so you can turn down the attack to stop it machine gunning. I'm going to do a video on it soon (time allowing). So, to answer you question, if you do hear it, you can dial it out very easily.

    • @edruminfo

      The SD XP pads with the red knob only function with the 700, 900 and 502 modules. The reason this feature hasn't been added to the new modules is to do with the fact that not that many people used the feature, and also to do with sounds. When you turned the snares on and off with the red knob, depending on the module, you were turning a modelled snare wire sound on, not a sample. The modelled snare wires never sounded that realistic, so it compromised the snare sound. The new modules snares sounds are much more realistic because they are great samples in the first place. I do appreciate it is nice to turn a knob to turn the snares off, but if you need snares on and snares off versions of the same kit, just duplicate it and put different snare sounds on each version of the kit, and swap between the two using a spare pad or a pad function to swap between the two.

      Hi, the only thing I can think of is that, just like real instruments, the samples behave differently at different dynamics. A set of heavy hi hats will react differently to a set of light hi hat and that will reflect in the samples as a lighter cymbal will crash easier, and sooner than a heavy one. Also, each kit can have different volumes saved in it and this will also effect how a sound reacts.

The snare buzz was included to make the kits sound more realistic, just as would happen if you were playing an acoustic kit. Personally I think it really helps to make the kit sound much more realistic in a mix. • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo  7 месяцев назад

      Hi Sanj P. I think you may have got this the wrong way around. Let me explain. Am I correct in thinking that you own or have owned Roland kits before? Am I correct in thinking that you dont play an acoustic drum kit very often?
      What I think the issue is that you are used to Roland sounds. Roland use something called physical modelling (which was partly invented by Yamaha) and Roland have given it many names over the year - COSM (Composite Object Sound Modelling), Super Natural Audio, Pure Acoustic Modelling, Prismatic Audio and so on - but it is based on the same method.
      Modelling uses created audio - synthesised sounds which are layered together (a tone for the top head, a tone for the bottom head, a bit of noise for snare wire buzz etc etc) but there is usually NO real sounds in there (no samples, or occasionally an incredibly small part of a sample). It gives a very clean, and adjustable drum sound, but all the sounds in a modelled module are made with the same 'parts' or components. Modelling needs very little storage space as there is really no real drum 'waveforms' stored.
      Everyone else (with the exception of ModoDrums by IK Multimedia) uses samples for their sounds. Samples are hundreds (or thousands) or digital recordings of real drum and cymbal sounds). You hit the pad and the module plays back the sample closest in dynamics to what you need, with your added adjustments. Samples take a lot of space and you need hundreds of samples for each new instrument.
      So one method is the real thing (samples), and the other method is synthesised (modelling).
      I have come across it before where users who are so used to modelled sounds dont like sampled sounds (even though they are 'real') because they have got so used to modelled sounds.
      When I am programming for artists (which is my 'day job') I have often been bought in to make the drums sound better on a production (have a look at eDrumInfo.com to see who these are) . In all these situations, we have NEVER ended up using the modelled sound - we ALWAYS end up using samples (usually a VSTi plug in like Superior Drummer or Addictive Drums).
      Modelled sound might sound great at home through headphones, but through a big PA in a stadium, modelled sounds can sound very thin and weak. Samples always sound fuller, and more real, and importantly, more instant.
      So while you might prefer modelled sounds (and there is nothing wrong with that), all electronic kits (apart from Roland), VSTi plugs ins like Addictive Drums, Superior Drummer, Ezdrummer etc - use samples of real instruments.
      But if you dont like the sounds of real drums and cymbals as they were recorded, the module offers loads and loads of ways of changing that sound to get what you want.
      Toms too 'boomy'? You can make the toms less boomy by reducing the decay and filtering the mid frequencies.
      Cymbals too 'big' sounding? You can make the cymbal sound more like modelled cymbals by removing all the low end frequencies with a High Pass Filter from around 500Hz.
      Dont like a kit sound? You can tune everything, choose different samples, load your own samples.
      I assume that you bought a DTXpro because you liked the sounds on a video or when you tried it? As such there is nothing 'wrong' with the sound - you are just used to something different - a more processed, and less 'real' sound. Maybe you find it more difficult to use than your TD25 or 17, but I guarantee it will sound more realistic in a mix - I can spot a modelled sound in a mix pretty easily.
      That module gives you everything you need to get a more processed sound if you need it. It is an incredibly powerful module.
      And lastly, make sure you are using a good quality headphone or speaker system. Some ekits are optimised for cheaper headphones, but dont sound good on speakers. The DTXpro is optimised to sound like an acoustic drum kit in a mix. You can make it sound different if you want - as processed as you might want - but the module is immensely powerful. Spend a bit of time with it, and you'll see what I mean.

      @@edruminfo you’ve been incredibly helpful thank you Simon. I actually can’t get Yamaha to answer a few questions on customer support they are contacting Japan.
      I noticed that just under utility/ general/ midi local is humanize. It’s default mode is set to on. Wouldn’t I want it set to off? Humanize as far as I understand it is when midi in information is quantized and running the model and displaces notes to give it a human feel. Is there a USB midi in on DTX pro? It seems utterly useless if there is no midi in. I would hate to be playing and having the DTX move my hits in some random fashion. I guess simply put set humanize to on or off while just playing?
      I also noticed in instrument effect you can put a completely different insertion fx for every instrument and still use the fx 1 or fx 2 plus the master fx. Didn’t know if you noticed that.
      Still not sure how to just simply playback to wav files off usb stick without recording. Just want to playback and play along not record.
      Also not sure how to stack sounds so that they alternate or only play at a certain velocity but I am digging around and hopeful I will figure it out. I’ve figured out how to control voice volume and pitch.
      Thank goodness for your videos. The manual and reference guide leave a lot to be desired.
      Best - Greg

      @@rsweeney6198 No, you want Humanize ON. Its not midi timing, it is dynamics - if you play the same note, when Humanize is on, it will vary the dynamics to give a different sound. It adds variation. Nothing to do with timing! USB does midi in and out, simultaneously. I have been heavily involved in the module development, so yes, I know how the effects work - its pretty impressive and goes way over what most people will use... ever! To playback a wav file, put it on the USB drive and insert it. Press Recorder. Find the file. Press Play (not record). Easy. Stack/Alt is more difficult to explain. I did a video on it before the DTX6 came out but not sure if it is released yet (for various reasons). Go to Kit Edit, Voice, then press TRG (F3). That gives you access to the layers. You need to lock the layer you are working on (F2) and change them with F1. To change the sound on each layer, lock it and press Exit. This takes you back to voice selection for the layer you locked. To limited velocity range, scroll ALL the way down the many Voice pages until you find VelHi and VelLo. These set the ranges of the voices individually.
