    Hi Simon, thanks for a great video. I am intrigued by this kit, both for the quality of sound and hardware as well as the compact size. This seems more suitable for my kids as compared to a Roland td17kvx2. However, I am wondering if the dtx6 is reaching the end of its product lifecycle and is due for replacement shortly, do you have any info on this you could share?

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo День назад

      Replacement? No. Remember this was launched in C19 era so everything had an extra few years where everything was at a standstill, as with all companies, and redevelopment times are much slower in almost all industries. The version 2 firmware has only just been released so you've got years to go yet!.

    How do you chose which angle/camera for certain parts in the song for example? For example have primary camera filming the verses but if you wanted a different angle for chorus or whatever, how do you go about that?

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo День назад

      If you watch the video, it's all done in the editing software. You send all the footage from all the multiple cameras into the software, then when it is on the computer screen, you choose where you want the edits. Depending on the software, you 'cut' the 'film' when you want to change, and swap to another camera's footage. It might be an idea to look at some basic video editing software videos on RUclips to get an idea of how this is done.

    When using the DTX to control a plug-in (i.e. Superior Drummer) does the audio from the plug-in go back to the DTX then to the headphone output (as well as the L/R line outs)? The application I am thinking of would be in a rehearsal/recording situation where the DTX is connected to the PC via USB, the DTX controlling Superior Drummer within a DAW, the audio from Superior Drummer goes back to the DXT and thus the line outs would go to a mixer for the band to monitor. Instruments and vocals would go through the mixer, line outs from instrument channels to a USB interface to the DAW as well. Auxilliary outputs would be used for a headphone amplifer for band monitoring. Off the floor recordings could be achieved with individual tracks for each instrument as well as the midi track produced by the drums.

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo 2 дня назад

      Thats completely down to you. In SD3, you can choose where you want the audio to go to - the DTX or an audio interface for example. If you have it coming back to the DTX, just set up a silent kit, so the internal sounds dont play as well, and the SD3 sounds will come out of the DTX outputs. Or, connect a multi output audio interface to the computer, choose that as the output in SD3 (or whatever DAW you are running) and have as many outputs as you need.

      Its going to be as effective as any other microphone based system, so if you are having issues with conventional microphones, then yes, but if you are using conventional microphones now and just want to simplify it, then it will work. I cant answer 100% as I dont know what sort of volume levels you get to.

I have an old dtxpress 3 and I can load midi tracks and play them in loop mode, bar by bar... etc. However, I can't find any mention of this in the new modules. I appreciate any comments Thank you

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo 14 дней назад

      Hi. Yes it can. Go to Menu / Job / Training and import 10 midi files here (Import SMF) from USB. Then you can play along to them as though they were the tracks built into the Training function. To be honest though, very few devices like this use MIDI files now as everyone has phones with limitless audio tracks on. The Rec'n'share app allows you to remove the drums from almost any track (as long as it is on your phone) so the demand for MIDI files now is almost non existent.

    • @jozeales
      @jozeales 13 дней назад

      thank you mr edgoose with my old dtx I play musical phrases such as glockenspield parts, chimes and others, all of this through a midi file assigned to a pad and configured to be able to play a note for each hit to pad. I have looked for the option to import smf files in the manual and I think that it would not serve the purpose of playing musical phrases. In your opinion, could you say that the new modules do not have this feature?

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo 13 дней назад

      @@jozeales Makes sense. You can't do that on the new modules. What you can do instead (and which would give much better audio results) is trigger samples in the same way you trigger midi phrases. If you are triggering MIDI phrases then you are limited to the sounds in the GM sound module. If you trigger samples then you aren't limited in any way to sound quality. Create the samples on a DAW using the notes and sounds you need, export them as 16bit samples and import them into the module and trigger them in the same way.

    Some questions from a DTX-Pro owner: I got the RC toms and kick. But no RC snare. Is this correct? The new bleed feature (wich I assume works only with the new RC sounds) - how does it work really? I can't understand how to assign it to the effects knob. Is it magically applied to preset kits only? Can't find the "dead" or "dirty" drums anywhere. There are no samples with that name and no presets. What am I missing? Thanks!

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo 24 дня назад

      Hi, yes, RC snares are DTXproX only. All RC kick and tom samples have a 'B' sample (look under Voice rather than Inst) which can be placed on Layer 'B' (or any). That is the resonance or ring sound. Then go to Kit Edit / Kit Modifiers / Other and then under Layers you can assign the Effect knob to turn up Layer B (or whichever you want). That is the resonance control. Now turning up the Effect knob will turn up the volume of the bottom head ring. This feature can also be used for some interesting layering effects as well, not just resonance. And, I'm really sorry, but the dead drums on the DTXpro is a mistake, and I'll re edit the vide to show this - they are on the DTXproX only. However, leave that with me (or email me).

      No, you cant layer sounds in the EAD. The sounds in the EAD are there to reinforce the sound of the microphones, rather then be sounds in their own right. You can load samples though so you can always find the sounds you want and load them to be triggered.

    Wiring the DTX900 into the Pro X whats the maximum number of trigger inputs that the Pro X can handle? My biggest blocker to upgrading my kit is loosing the size of my setup. Kick, Hats, 2 x 3 Zone Snare, 4 x 3 Zone Tom, 6 x 3 zone crash/ride, Single zone cymbal.

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo 27 дней назад

      Well you won't get all that in a DTXproX. What I'd do is get the DTXproX module, connect the modules via USB Trigger Link but keep all the pads plugged into the 900 (as you will only get 3 zone pads in the snare and cymbal inputs on the ProX). Then you can choose whether you use 900 voices or ProX voices or ANY combination of them through the individual outputs on both modules. In other words, say you want to use the drum voices from the ProX and the cymbals and everything else from the 900, just set up a kit on each which has no sound output for the pads you want from the OTHER module. Best of both worlds.

    Is there a way for me to play a fully micd’ kit, but use rec n share to make quick drum covers rather than using the EAD module?

  • @dvamateur

    I start warming up to the DTX6 series. I was all in for the DTX8, but I figured, why would one need acoustic style shells for electronic drums? These shell don't contribute anything to the sound. I think electronic drum pads should be flat, like Simmons DSD V pads were. I currently have the Roland TD-7T, which I understand is not cutting edge today, but to me, personally, it's still amazing. Steve Fisher's demo of the TD-7 is still one of my favorite ones on RUclips. I guess, it all comes down to playing. Gear is nice and all, but it all comes down to the hands, and legs, in case of the drums. I was thinking of upgrading my TD-7 drum module to the TD-50x. But since the TD-50x went back from $2,200 to $2,900 I think I'd be better off buying the DTX6 for $1,900, then add one more tom pad, and maybe upgrade to the DTX PRO X further down the line. Another option would be TD17KVX2, but I am not sure about the TD-17 module. I mean, my TD-7 module seems more flexible in terms of trigger inputs. Another option is a 64-bit computer, to run some drum software. I downloaded the VSDSX 2 software from Aly James Lab. But I don't have a 64-bit computer to run it on. The lowest priced Mac laptop is $1,000-$1,100, plus the audio interface... Anyway, I haven't made my decision yet what to buy. I think I shouldn't probably buy anything, and just practice on my TD-7K, which quite honestly, it's pretty amazing.

    Question. Can you use this monitor set and have the EAD as the primary drum mike and send that to the house. If yes I would mange, you would just use the mono left jack on the EAD and send that to the mixing board. Is that correct? Thank you for your post.

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo 2 месяца назад

      I don't quite get what you mean. Yes, you can use this to mic the whole kit. Yes, you can send it to the FOH mixer. Yes, you can listen to yourself as a monitor at the same time. I personally wouldn't go mono - you'll get a much better audio experience if you monitor in stereo, and the same for FOH but it depends if your PA is in stereo or mono I guess.

Also capturing directly and it sounds pretty darned good on its own. The best part of the update is being able to connect the DTX Pro to my iPhone to use the app to tweak settings. Way faster than menu diving on the unit itself.

    Extremely helpful video. Thank you @simonedgoose. I have a question sort of related to DIY pads, but not identical to the topic. and that is the use of my Roland SPDSXXX pro with the GTX 10 pro X module. Basically the question is can I? The Roland is very useful for looping and sound effects and things of that nature,but the Yamaha has incredible acoustic kits. For musicals I’d like to use both. Is this possible using the MIDI in on the DTX-pro?

    • @edruminfo
      @edruminfo 2 месяца назад

      Hi. Yes it is, but what are you trying to achieve? You can use both simply by plugging the outputs of both devices into a mixer and doing it like that. Then you'll have the combined outputs going to the Front Of House. You can do more using MIDI, but there's no point unless you have a particular task you want to achieve which cant be achieved by the two products separately. If you can give me more of an idea about what you need to do, then I might be able to help.

      You need to find a friend with a computer and get it from them on a USB drive. Doesn't really work without a computer I'm afraid. If you can use your phone as a USB drive, that might work, but depends on the phone and the operating system.
