I hope everyone realizes the only reason Swift is in these videos more than anyone else is because they are 1 of very few companies willing to give new drivers some experience. It says a lot about the size and wealth of the company as compared to the rest of the industry
But without swift there would be a lot less truck drivers
Yes, they get tax write-offs for hiring green drivers.
Naw, it's because Swift has so many trucks that one of them is bound to be in trouble every day. It's a statistical certainty. Swift actually has one of the best records in the industry.
Also, it's the drivers who don't respect the company. They don't care if Swift takes shit.
That is absolute bullshit Werner hires left it right and they’ve only been on here a few couple of times swift is literally every single video, swift has a terrible training regimen that’s incredibly short I was on my trainer’s truck for two months straight learning
As I left out in my Freightliner, for a trip, this morning, for some reason the thought, "Don't wind up on Bonehead Truckers" occurred to me. Ya know what? The whole day went great! :)
It's great motivation!
Ur comment is now part of my daily prayer😂stay blessed
That's the mindset I put myself into. Don't end up on Twisted Truckers lol
Not only truck drivers are bonehead in the US, but almost 90% of drivers in this country
This is why I made a truckers guide online..I never intend on backing up a trailer on my blind spot like that swift driver..I swear swift and cr England will hire just about any idiot… I bet they rush the drivers to be fast or something to make them this stupid. LET PEOPLE DRIVE SAFE 😅
Thank God cell phones weren't around 35 years ago I'd have been on every week.
Guilty as charged 😅
At least your honest! Unlike a lot of these keyboard truckers.
Bingo!
In fact they were

Drove for 18, years. Over time had a few minor scrapes, a few tickets, but no preventable accidents. Three things I wanted to avoid like the plague that I believe kept me safe- #1 A 'runaway' truck (long grades) #2 a jackknife truck. #3 Rear ending someone. Robert at 66.
No driver is perfect, we might learn from our mistakes but mistakes is a common problems in this job.
In my beginning days...yes...not good. I make a mistake once...I don't repeat it. Get out and look really can save your rearend! I have learned to not guess...walk it out, research, call someone who knows the place (if possible), GoogleEarth it...most of all...take it slow and easy! Swing wide, shorten or lengthen your tail, get help, tug your trailer, take a last look at everything to make sure all is covered like dollies are up or down and lines are attached or not. Safety is worth the time it takes!
@@HM-vr4uc absolutely.!

My condolences to the family in cement truck crash.
Had I been the driver, I would have done my best to lay it down on the passenger side before going through that intersection.
Yeah hindsight being 20/20 roll it or go for the dirt to the right.
@@snek9353 Agreed. But to the right was a motorcycle. To me, kinda looked too risky for the biker.
Hard to try and stay calm in those situations, but if it would've been me, and driving alone, I would've rammed my passenger side head on to the bridge support on the left at 4:31, either that or try to roll it over.
@@samuelguzman5348 Yeeeaaaahhhh just too close to the biker for me. I mean parts could come off the truck and hit the biker. Rolling it over is much lower impact and there is plenty of room to do it.
Most deaths of concrete mixer drivers are from rollovers. Poor guy lost his brakes.
Minute marker 4:30, Im glad you didnt make fun of this one. The truck that he hit was my dads truck, he wasnt supposed to be on that road but he was and if he wasnt the concrete truck would have hit a van with a family in it
From what I see in that video, if you're talking about the black van/suv or whatever on the other side of the truck, theyre making a left turn... and at the initial angle the mixer was going toward the light at until he realized he wasnt going to beat the truck and decided to take out the trailer, if that truck wasnt there the mixer would have stayed on that same path instead of swerving left to hit the trailer, and that van/suv would have been avoidable regardless of if they stayed in the far left lane or crossed over into the right lane in front of the mixer. The mixer could have went around them either way. The truck was unavoidable by the time the mixer got under that bridge.
Is your dad ok? Sometimes God intercedes to save someone that God is not ready for yet.
The biggest reason I love shows like this is to learn from others and always keep safety in the back of my mind from their mistakes. Every single Trucker has done a bonehead thing but it’s the level of “boneheadness”! If you ever come to a situation and you have to ask yourself “…should I do this/that?“ my answer to that is, “…you probably shouldn’t“

Bonehead Truckers you make my day. I'm a retired 67 year old retired driver of over 4 dacades(That's no big deal to me). But you show the truth these rookies are very dangerous on the highway. I helped a rookie why? This guy showed me he wanted to learn the job not telling me that he's got 2 months experience and knows everything about trucking 🤣🤣. This young man ask me to back his unit into the Walmart dock here where my daughter works. This polite young man sat in the jump seat intently watching everything I was doing. This young man Givin a chance will be a good driver. I was happy I could help him. And no he didn't work for anyone of those doorknobs you always show. Have a great day.
I drove for two years, all with Swift before quitting to start flight school training. Never an incident outside of bumping another trailer on my first solo back in. The company itself was fine to me but man, do I find it hard to defend my fellow Swift drivers. I’ve had to apologize on behalf multiple times.
You are only as good as your training, learning capabilities and applying what you have learned or what others teach you. If you can't take tips and advice from more experienced drivers...get out of trucking. If you cannot train someone well enough...stop training. Schools, if you just pass someone just to get high numbers and money...stop being a school and become a bank or salesman.
Don't fly under a low bridge lol
Doesn't Swift have their own airline? 😂
You fly for SouthWest ??
wow i drive for swift right now and im thinking of flight school, how did everything work out?
You got me with “I don’t know if that is a donut or a cellphone” made me spit my drink
Condolences to the families of the deceased. Question to any law enforcement officers. How is it that you need to be in good physical condition to get through the training? Then you’re allowed to become borderline obese, and keep your job?
The same reason it happens to truckers.

Probably a one and done physical just to get the job.

They put you on desk duty because you have too many red flags for street duty. My father worked for the Chicago police for 26 years, he was put in the equipment booth after 8 years because of traffic accidents on the job. I'm sure some officers are segregated for other reasons, but truck enforcement seems to be a punishment
Condolences to the departed, and I also feel for the driver of the other rig. The accident report on a fatality accident is no joke.

I should have got out and checked. It wasn't. Started sliding down the hill right towards the cars and house at the bottom. Decided to ditch it into the tall hedges on the side of the driveway. It worked. And I got it out myself and told them to call off the tow truck. You got to think fast.

Welcome to the life

Its actually what my moving company recommend to do is watch crash videos and see what happened and see what could have been done to not have the accident happen no matter whose "fault" at the end and all I drive is 26ft box trucks
Proper gear for proper incline/ decline do this and you won’t need brakes.
Professional drivers can get out of any situation. Every driver has been in tight spots. Need the skills to get out and not damage equipment

That girl was very lucky. If those were the heavy duty blue CHEP pallets, she'd be dead. I've seen guys get severely injured doing that. I hope she learned a valuable lesson there, I can't even make fun.
I used load locks in the trailer and they never failed.

I hate you chep pallet!
As a truck mechanic for 33 years I can say it's rare for a complete brake failure. There seems to be very little time to do things. I don't know all of the circumstances however let's say that cement truck was a automatic and let's say there was no foot brakes. First thing to do is put on the engine brake. Next thing to do is slow down enough that the automatic will allow you to downshift. Turning off the engine sounds good but you loose power steering and have to manually steering. But looks like a last resort was needed because he was traveling too fast for any of the above. Pull out the yellow knob and hope for the best. That cement truck should have 4 maxi chamber brakes. I never seen all 4 fail at the same time. I rather take my chances pulling out the yellow knob then plowing through traffic.
I think I would have laid it on the passenger side way before the intersection, I'm not killing somebody or worse kids that are in a car.
Wake up Leroy and lay her over.
Yep I would try lay it on the passenger side for sure.. last resort or before pull the air brakes button before flipping on side ..and yes I'm driver myself.. always have my engine (Jake) brakes on while driving..
I met somebody that pulled it once. It was a big mess but he did not hurt a single soul and that to me is a win.
loose power?
LOL "I didn't know if that was a phone or a donut"
That's only the second time in 10 years that I've seen a weigh station in Texas open.
A few years ago I was driving dump truck with a 3 axle beaver tail hauling a John Deere loader down Freya street hill in Spokane Washington when the truck brakes cammed over and the trailer brake airlines were plugged up by dust accumulation. Fortunately the turn lane was empty and traffic was light because I could slow down a bit but couldn't stop. That was a sickening feeling.
wtf you going down that hill for ?
Preventative maintenance. Do it.
I didn’t know that Roscoe from the dukes of hazard work as a CVE trooper.
He musta left "Flash" in the booth- prolly left the AC on for him, too!

Most DPS troopers in Texas are heavyset guys. It’s amazing most of them can still get their pants over those bellies in the morning.
Doing road service on trucks, my favorite one is still this one driver that I asked to set his trailer brakes. He asked me, yellow or red. LOL
The dude who wanted to sent it to bonehead was the absolute best. I'd love to have a conversation with you.
That happened in my hometown of El Paso Texas. He left three kids behind. He lost his breaks... RIP!
I never use my brakes when going downhill 🤷🏻♀️🤔 maybe they need to put it in 8th gear or 9th gear. I rather go 50 downhill than get a big ticket. Most of El Paso is only 60 MPH but everyone goes 80 MPH. 🤷🏻♀️

A SWIFT driver once told me that SWIFT meant " See What I Foul up Today" .
You missed Swift was up against a Knight trailer lol
As a trucker i gotta say, sometimes you find yourself accidentally in places you don't belong. It sucks but you don't have much choice but to navigate your way out.
Hello
For anyone that ever gets hung up on the landing gear/drive tires into the trailer, pull the leveling valve on the tractor and over lift the truck. You can do the trailer too if it’s air ride. Just don’t forget to put the arms back on.
I worked my way through college in the office of a small trucking company, and I learned that driving truck is a tough job. It's not for boneheads. More recently I have learned that you never, ever rely entirely on a GPS. But I've seen truckers end up on my little, unpaved country lane looking very puzzled because their GPS told them it was a good, straight through route.
A GPS is just there to remind you of the directions you already looked up in advance.
“He saw a Western Express truck”. Dude im dyin!
"It's dangerous out here you gotta be careful" is absolutely correct. I couldn't have said that better. Any driver drove long enough can fully relate to that, the situations can indeed stack up pretty high out there on the road. Those who's never been out there have zero clue how it can get for truck drivers. It's more the reason why drivers need to cover their backs any time possible and think before they react if time permits.
Exactly. Document everything. Got dash, side rear exterior facing cameras, and keep detailed logs on my ELD. So in the event of an accident I am covered! No four wheeler and ambulance chasing lawyers are gonna take my livelihood away.
to the cement truck my anwser is if its a manual down shift 2 gears and engine break and head for the wall on the left (better then an intersection) if auto just wall
That happened a few years ago in Las Vegas
@@lotechrevolt4513 i re watched the video and right before the light theres a concrete barrier around the over pass support beam i mistook that for a wall (still would of aim for it though better then a intersection)
It's easy to lose breaks on a big truck , engine break and emergency break if you have one
When I drove a mixer truck, I didn't have a jake.
Your engine brakes only work when you're in gear. Even if that driver was in 5th gear. The jake brakes slows you down as much as they can. As soon as you pop it into neutral with no brakes. The RPM's will be so high you would never find a lower gear again!
That last truck had to have his training wheels put back on.
Shut up
@@evanscj86 😋
Alloy chassis didn’t help
As a Uk trucker I feel bad about myself as i love this channel
Sure depends on what time that cement truck realized his brakes we're gone. Through the jerkiness of the camera there was a wall on the left to start with before it ran out. But even before that there was the wall on the right which continued until the curve. That could have at least slowed it down and the right-hand turn likely had a merge but it definitely had a large area on the side and what looked like a shoulder. Part of driving is always being aware of your surroundings. With over 1,500,000 miles under my belt I never lost my brakes in a big rig. Though I did smoke them once on Haystack in West Virginia. "Paper load".
I generally not be too critical of other drivers. Everyone has had to learn. And often times you wonder what's wrong with another truck driver. But at times you just don't see what caused the situation.
We've all been there passing a truck driver on his phone, he realizes he's going slow, so he speeds up in the middle of your pass. Your Governor doesn't allow you anymore speed. Now everyone gets on his ass and you're stuck in the fast lane with everyone pissed at you.
I would have hit the jersey walls, like you mentioned. The one less likely to cause the worst case scenario.
Use the Jake brake if you got one..switching off the engine while in gear will give you some braking if you don't have jakes..otherewise, rub it hard against a wall or guardrail, look for a soft ditch spot fast..
That first guy must not have done his pre-trip inspection and he's never going to drive truck with any company again probably 😂

Guess you could say Swift doesn't hire the "swiftest" of drivers!! 🤣
Live in Kansas City and there is a big Swift Depot off of I-435 in Kansas City, Kansas. Never failed to amaze me how many trashed trailers and truck they would have in the back lot at any given time.
Holy cow, Swift. A bit of hard work would've saved him getting into that jam. I've encountered such a situation. How did I deal with it?
I dropped my trailer, hooked up to the blocking trailer and moved it, then hooked up to my trailer again and put it in. Yes, it's extra work but it saves you from this sort of mess.
In addition to my years of OTR I also put in a couple of years doing yard shunting. The odd time I'd see a guy in trouble like Swift so I'd either move the other trailer for him, or ask him to drop his trailer and let me put it in for him. I'd feel sorry for those guys who'd come into our yard with a bunk truck and have to reverse in constricted spaces. By doing what I did I helped a brother trucker and avoided equipment getting damaged. It only took a minute of my time with a short, single axle yard truck. Sometimes they'd offer me money but I'd say, "No thanks, just glad to help a fellow trucker." When I was a new driver I had help from veterans a few times. Just pay it forward.
That trucker who got sideswiped going into the tunnel could've avoided that with a defensive driving attitude. Back off a bit and wait until you clear the tunnel. He did not have to pass at that moment; he put himself into a situation where he had no evasion room. Technically the other driver caused the collision but the guy who got hit put himself into a situation where he was at the mercy of another driver.
Condolences to those in the cement truck crash. I know it's a good episode when swift is the screen shot in to the video
You can't bypass a weigh station even know I had one trainee try it which lead to bad results for him. He was a total screw up and he almost got us killed on numerous occasions. Condolences to the cement truck crash. 💐
At least the cement truck driver managed to turn and go for the trailer rather than hit the tractor of the truck hauling it it could have been even worse if that had been the case. I saw this pop up on my feed earlier and sad that someone lost their life but that sort of thing could have been even worse. Even could say if that beer truck hadn't been there that cement truck could have barreled into a bunch of cars and killed multiple people instead. Still sad though and a tell tale sign of people needing to do proper pretrips on their vehicles, or even if they did, mid trip checks are essential too. Condolences to the family to whomever lost their life (Have yet to find out whether it was the cement truck or someone stopped at the red on the other side of the wreck) But either way. Hate to see it. :(
people need to learn how to drive that transmountain road in El Paso it's usually speed related anyway it's a lot steeper than what you think for West Texas. that's the term transmountain. some people don't make the connection sadly
The only other thing the cement truck could have done before reaching the intersection would have been to jerk the wheel and rolled his self over but then the cement barrel might have came off and steamed rolled all the way to Mexico.
@@KadeKillz mid trip inspections are especially important when hauling a heavy load. I agree. Condolences. There's only so much you can do in that situation. He probably could've rolled it before the intersection, but that's an intense situation and no one can really say what they'd do. Downhill with no brakes... it honestly looked like a video from Russia. They have so many brake failures there.
The cement truck driver was killed. I believe in the very last seconds before impact, he swerved to the left in order not to hit that Miller lite truck driver. May he RIP.
Lol The Family sitting ...got me rolling on the floor
2:35 she got back up like a champ tho
I can't criticize this week, all morning I have been boneheading. Fortunately not serious enough to make the show.........At least not yet.
Keep it up there's hope for us all yet
Hang in there amigo. We all have our days. Sometimes by chance, sometimes by choice. Stay human and safe.
Brother we all have our days. I haven’t been able to fix my damn sleep schedule for a week.
Patience you will get here
Give it time. You'll be checking the fb page once in awhile to see if you're there.
As a concrete mixer driver I don't know the whole situation but I would have started grabbing gears to slow down, RIP driver
Yesterday I seen a swift truck on the side of the road with another car. Looked like the car was side swiped by the swift truck 😂
My CDL instructor told me SWIFT stands for:
Sure
Wish
I
Finished
Training
" we may get on bonehead truckers of the week " 😄😄😄😄
😆😆😆
Great job and your right condolences to who past in the cement truck wreck
It was the driver of the concrete mixer truck.
@@bigbear5510 that's very sad
@@markstack2309 Yes it is but it could have been worse. There's a post about it on "American Truckers" community page here on RUclips.
Yes, condolences to the cement truck driver’s family. Hate to see that. Very sad.
.
At 4:40 I have enough American truck simulator to know that purposely flipping the truck would have been safer than going through the intersection
Don't know when the cement truck lost his brakes but there was the concrete on the right that can always be used to scrub speed. Then there was a nice wide open field on the right before the intersection enough room that he could have laid it over away from everybody if it was still going too fast.
Had he not been able to get it over he could have run the truck into the bridge Truss.
That's no DOT man, that's a State Trooper.
Golfed with a guy years ago when I was driving. I told him that I was a truck driver and he said he was too. He said he drove for Swift but he got fired. My first thought was, "How do you get fired from Swift? Run over the owners dog?
🤣🤣I obtained my CDL in 1991 and Swift wouldn't hire me. I guess I had too much experience from my 10 week driving school? I was at Direct Transit, Inc. when Swift took over in 1996. I along with other drivers with over 6 months of experience got a bus ticket home. There was even a husband-wife team where the husband had 7 years experience and the wife barely had 6 months and they fired him.🤷🏽♂️ I went home and took the rest of the week off and the following Monday was in orientation where I got a four cents per mile raise, home weekly if I wanted, nicer freight, a dispatcher who came from a trucking family.
Lol,hilarious
Swift didnt want to hire me in 94 after 5 mths in school
@@Monalisa9603, too much experience?
Do realize Swift is a training company and the government pays them for every student despite the student paying his own tuition as well. Swift does not pay well either regardless of experience. So I'm curious as to why anybody it's sad they didn't get a job with Swift. Although Swift does have many multi-million mile drivers. And they do win truck rodeos. And by the way despite their size I see less of them having incidences than say Prime or England. And of course it's Knight- Swift now which really makes them the largest carrier. And I've had too back more than one truck belonging to another driver into its dock because their driver couldn't do it.
Most everyone has to learn at some point. I started driving trucks on the ranch when I was 7 years old. By the time I was twelve I was backing the bull wagon. And by the time I was 18 I was driving oversized equipment transports.
Point is everyone needs to learn and not everyone has the same opportunities. I was fortunate, but I never forget that.
My head hurts from all the conversations going on at once on this video.
First time watching you, and when you said 'Shame on the mess!' I laughed til' I peed. Thank you it means so much to me and to laugh because I've been very depressed for many months and this is the first time I've had a really good laugh. Thank you again!
For those tunnels use your high beams or flicker and keep your space you can always pass them later, they're limited to at most 68, if you drive for a decent company they'll let you go 75-80 so passing isn't a problem
"Idk if that was a donut or a cellphone" 🤣🤣
The driver in El Paso could have avoided the accident if he had steered to the right and into the desert
There is at least 100 yards of cactus and scrub brush to the right side coming down Trans Mountain. Had he taken it to the dirt and started running over the cacti the second he lost his brakes; the sandy soil would have stopped him and he'd be alive
I am wondering if possibly the cement truck driver did not actually lose his brakes but maybe he was having a heart attack or something else happening that he could not step on the break or pool the yellow knob this would make more sense as for all Maxi brake Chambers to go bad would be extremely rare and yes of course he could have steered into the desert
I would’ve been in a ditch or sideswiping a bridge or trying to put the damn thing on its side , at some point I mean you’re gonna lose your job anyways but try not to kill yourself or anyone else.
I spent over thirty years not only driving rigs, but unfortunately fixing them. It was always fun to look the driver in the eye and telling him how the thing REALLY got that way. Like the driver bitching about a broken parking lamp lens when I had to put 13 quarts of oil in his x15. Shut him up quick
The famous swift elbow maneuver.
As for the fatal concrete mixing truck, I once drove a Mack cabover with a 3500 gallon fuel oil tank. I delivered heating oil. I had it all preplanned in my mind what I would do if I lost my brakes on a decline. If there was nowhere to pull over like for example a grass medium strip to slow down and stop on, I would steer hard left to right and tip the truck over and slide to a stop.
Mixer driver here, only problem with that, is the only thing holding those drums on is the hydraulic gearbox and the weight of the load on the rollers. If you roll it, youve got a ~50k pound bowling ball rolling down the street that WILL flatten multiple cars before it stops.
@@Jasonrotfl didn't know that.
Swift must have some kind of special recruitment program. How else would they be able to maintain such a consistent level of quality straight across their driver pool?
they are using the old JB Hunt recruiting manuals..
@@gord120 that explains a lot . . .
Let's put it this away. I have never drove anything bigger than a 23 foot uhaul and swift ,roehl,PAM and CR England was begging for me to take their cdl class and drive for them. Who knows I might do good but yet I might not lol they didn't care they will give anyone a chance.
Maybe it’s just me, but when I see the phrase “Best in class” on the side of a swift trailer my first thought is they must have been home schooled.
Swift is one of the biggest companies and take people that want to learn and teach them. It’s never the company it’s the driver you going to have problems when rookie drivers are released and panic in situations every driver fucks up.
I've gotten in some situations but man these guys make me feel pretty darn good about myself
I bet you thats one those House Shoes and Soxs Drivers, you see them in the rain and snow🤣
Watching bonehead truckers while guitar is shredding in the back priceless😁
The driver was hoping for a train to come along and straighten out his bent trailer.
Bet there was a lot of crowd disappointment when nothing showed. Locos certainly answer the question “what’s in the trailer”.
Ah Swift. If I could hide my name, I would rant. lol
Yea. Swift drivers were very rough backing into dock doors daily. A few actually asked me if I could back their trailers to our doors
Man I'm so glad my buddy told me about this channel. He drives the CDL truck for the company I work for. I'm about to start applying to companies that pay for your CDL and train as i can't afford to do it on my own. Swift was actually at the top of my list. After watching these videos I'm definitely not applying with them. I want proper training so I dont end up on this channel. I promise to leave my flip flops at home.
I’m currently at swift and the training is horrible. Everything is rushed and we’re not getting enough drive time. 🤦🏾♀️
@@loveanyce it's all about the money for them. Get you out there asap under-trained to feed the greed. And when you mess up they fire and replace you with another new hire and the cycle continues. Apparently alot of the companies that offer to pay for your permit, school and CDL do the same thing. CR England and CRST seem to be the best options.
