Two Week Old Tesla Model 3 Destroyed Crash in Mt Airy Maryland

- To showcase the safety of a two week old 2023 Tesla Model 3 that was rear ended at 60 mph while almost standing still. The car was then thrown into the incoming lane, missing a tractor trailer by inches then to be hit head on by a VW Jetta at traveling at speed. All airbags deployed front and rear totally wrecked but I was able to open the door and get out, dazed and confused but not seriously hurt...The car press always mentioned panel gaps but never how solidly built the car is...I bought another Model 3 a week later....Well done Elon!

Lucky you didnt hit that truck path
At the time I did not see it, I think I was out for a short time, it is only when I watched the car videos from the onboard multiple built in cameras that I realized how close I was to have been hit by that truck. Although the 19 Gs hit from the Jetta was pretty bad considering that I was pushed hard into its path by the moron who hit me...

@@ChevyGuy-kx7imwhen did this happen? I was in a much less serious collision and I started to feel my injuries about 3-5 months later. Trust me, see a doctor, talk to an injury lawyer.
So many distracted drivers out there these days. I wonder if they were looking at their phone. I'm glad your Model 3 protected you so well from that double whammy. Multicar collisions are scary because the airbags can only work once. Good to hear you got another Model 3. They're great cars.
Good point. Doesn't the tesla have a giant phone mounted to the dash that you must use for everything involved with driving? I know my girlfriends subaru does as well as 99% of all new cars. Accidents are happening everyday just because someone had to adjust their heat. It's nonsense. Not to mention that carmakers know this and thats why they install features that let you know when you're drifting out of your lane or when the traffic in front of you starts moving. Roads are becoming more dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians because of these distractions.
All good points, I don't think the old minivan that hit me had any sort of technology on board and I don't know why the driver spent so much time with his eyes off the road, you can clearly see on the video how long it took me to hit me. Unfortunately I was looking forward and I just saw him when he was only a couple feet behind me coming in a over 60 mph according to the State Patrol. No skid marks...Anyway, it is good that we all walked away and I feel bad for the kid driving the Jetta, he has no idea that I was going to pop in front of him.
Yes they are and having all these cameras made it easy to prove to the insurance that I did not back up and hit the car behind me at 60 mph...lol. The driver that rear ended me was charged at the scene...

Feel free to use it but I would be grateful if you mentioned the build quality of the Model 3. It is a really well built and safe car.. It is simple to explain the onboard cameras show it pretty well. I just starting rolling after a red light when I got hit by a 90 year old man who for some reason was not paying attention. right before impact, he swerved to the right just a tiny bit but it was enough to send me in the incoming lane, missing a tractor trailer by inches and getting nailed by a Jetta. My car was destroyed, but the doors still open and I was basically uninjured. The onboard black box revealed a 21Gs in the rear impact and almost immediately a 19Gs from the front impact. I am lucky to have been driving my tesla instead of my old 1948 Chevy. I would have been killed or seriously injured in the Chevy that had no seat belts and no air bags...Hope this helps.

I've not had a crash where my car was totalled so for those who have what is worse, losing a new car like this or something you've owned for years and got loads of memories with?
I have been driving since 1970 and this is my first serious accident. The car can be and has been replaced with little effort. The worst part in looking anxiously in my rearview mirror every time I stop at a traffic light. I never have been afraid driving until now..
