My mom passed away less than a month ago. She was a fantastic cook and really loved being in the kitchen . One of her specialties was tirk prahok. She made it all the time . Although I’ve watched her make it countless times , I took advantage of her making it for us instead of learning from her myself. I’ve enjoyed being in the kitchen with her since I was a littler girl. I’d always help her “bok kroeung” the old school traditional way. I RUclips’d some videos on here and it led me to you. I’ve never seen anyone toast the aromatics before but I can’t imagine the burst of flavors it brings . Thank you for sharing and I can’t wait to see more videos from you ❤️
pchan1728 I’m so sorry to hear about your mom 😔 I totally know what you mean about boking kreung lol, it’s my least favorite thing to do. If you have any specific recipe requests lmk. Thank you so much for watching 🙏🏽♥️
Jannie Lam thank you ❤️ I would love to see your version on somlaw machu ktis. It’s one of my favs from my mom. Also, I know that this is primarily a cooking channel, but I’d love to see a makeup routine from you. You are absolutely stunning ! Happy cooking ❤️
pchan1728 🤔 somlaw machu ktis? The only two I’m familiar with is somlaw machu youn and somlaw machu kreung... I’m 🤯 lol. My makeup routine is really simple, it’s the eyelashes that makes a huge difference 😉
Once quarantine is over I'll be making more traditional dishes. I have more khmer friends who will eat my food after I make it in Vegas. I don't know anyone in Austin, TX. Just lmk what you would like to see me make and I'll make it happen. :)
I love the video! I’ve always loved eating that sauce with steak and a side of rice! But I’m ashamed that I didn’t know how to make it. Thanks to you, I can try to make it myself. Thanks for a great video!
One hack to keep your whole house from smelling like prahok is to boil the water first. Take it out the fire and stir the prahok in. This sauce is also great spicy. For those that lika da spice. I put tons of Thai chili in. Tons!
Those long herbs are called sawtooth coriander or culantro lol! This was actually an easier way to make it 😊 Thank you for the recipe. Love your videos
Hi, I'm Cambodian too... the veggie at 7:04 is called "sawtooth coriander". You right, a lot of Cambodian people make their prahok differently. I like mine with a lot of eggplant.
ggeminii7 * haha I figured it out afterwards but thank you! Honestly there’s really no wrong way to make this. People have their preferences. And my recipe can just be a guide. Thank you so much for watching! 🤗
Thanks for this video!! 😁👍 I have NEVER even attempted at making this sauce because I'm not a huge fan of prahok at all. I don't hate it overall, but a little goes a long way because a couple of soups/dishes I enjoy has it as an ingredient like some papaya salad recipes. Again, a little goes a long way, but that's just me. 🤣 Gonna try to make this soon and have my family be the taste testers!

Looks good, since you cook the fermented fish then blend it wouldn't the sauce be too hot?

Thank you for the recipe and love your step by step. What can I sub the eggplant, I am allergic to eggplant.
Just don’t put it in.
Can’t find the long herbs is cilantro an ok replacement? I love this sauce so much
I wouldn't recommend cilantro but you can try it? Best place to find all the herbs I used in the video is at the asian markets.
Thanks for this video!! 😁👍
