So i used 1/4cup of butter in the batter and this cake turned out lovely and light in my 10 inch iron pan, flipped out pretty nicely too, only a few pears slices to pick out, to make it festival and colourful i cooked pomegranate seeds with the pear, candied fruit and nuts would make it even more presentable, but one son has food allergies, thanks for a good video and recipe!
This looks soo good. I am new to your channel.. Can i use box cake mix??? Please let me know i would love to try this.. thank you so much.. I subscribed to your channel..Yeyyy ty
Caramel sauce: 4 tablespoons butter 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar 3 ripe but firm pears (Bartlett or Anjou, for example), peeled and cored Cake Batter: 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons baking powder 2 large eggs, separated 1/4 teaspoon Cream of Tartar 1 cup granulated sugar 1 stick (4 ounces) butter 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup whole milk Hopefully this helps, even though it's not by weight.
Is there a reason you didn't show turning it out of the pan onto the plate? Because that's the hardest part and the step I would most likely screw up! At the beginning you said it was "easy".
She’s not a chef. She’s like a personal assistant or something else (it’s like she’s struggling to get through each step). You are absolutely right; turning out the upside cake 🎂 is the most important step... peace and hugs KP
karen pereira hi there! I’m actually a professionally-trained chef, went to culinary school, worked as a pastry chef at a restaurant in NYC, and am a food editor for Martha Stewart where I write recipes for the magazine. I’m not sure why the flip was edited out - unfortunately I don’t get a say in the editing process. As for the struggle, I guess I was having an off day! If you want to check out more of my food, you can take a peek at www.lindsaystrandfood.com. Happy cooking!
@@Venustranquility You end your remarks with "peace and hugs," so I guess we can only assume that you don't intend to be belittling and caustic, but . . . Lindsay is an editor at Martha Stewart (I somehow get the impression that they're not desperately recruiting "personal assistants" for recurring segments over at MS Omnimedia), and she has also developed a lot of acclaimed recipes for the magazine during her tenure there.
remah abd it’s an upside down fruit cake. You can use whatever fruit you want; apples, peaches, blueberries, strawberries, pineapples; pretty much anything.
Too complicated...too many steps....any short cuts? Like not having to haul every appliance out in the place? Thought it would seem simple when i saw the frying pan.
Where I'm from, the south, we always make them in a cast iron skillet. It's supposed to caramelize the sugar and fruit better than a cake pan and it gives the cake a little crispness.
8:37 that sent a shiver down my spine!
Looks delicious....thanks so much for sharing.

Release the edges with a knife or spatula. Do it while the filling is warm. Put your plate on top, flip over.
She probably had to do it 4 or 5 times to get the perfect one for the video. :-) Still, it would have been nice to see the effect.

Can we use canned pear
Wow!💭❣️
You didn’t say how much butter goes in the cake?
Can someone write the recipe here?
Lindsay is like the Pastel Princess of Everyday Food.
But to try and make it
Can I use caramel instead of brown sugar and butter mixture?
Yeah you can but it's a bit stiffer so you might wanna use a more liquiddy caramel
Oh well, I wanted to see the cake turned out... but I heard you say turn it out right away, so the sugar does get a chance to cool and stick.
can i use apple instade of pear?

Did anyone see the eggshell in the egg whites? LOL!!!

Ohhhhh hun......😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I wonder if canned peaches can be used. I was given a bunch of canned pears
Try peaches and let us know :)
Check out her Bling!!!! Love that ring Lindsey!!!
👍👍👍👍
Pears seem too green?
Ah Lindsay another winner from my distant relative 👍🙋
You didn't say how much butter you put in a cake mixture
The turning out really should have been shown. It's the hardest part. Why didn't you show it?
Maybe just pour a cake mix over it.
😋
I wonder who does her washing-up?
OOOOHHH AMAZING PIE 🍐PIE THANKS YOU GOODNESS 🌟❤️🖤💚🤎 FAMILY DAPHNE COTTON ALWAYS 💜 AWESOME BEAUTIFUL ✨,

Came here for the turn out.. ah well next one maybe..
I have got to try and make it delicious

Can you say bokeh? f.95 lens?
Can’t have the recipe unless you sign up for endless junk in your inbox. DOWNVOTE.
You don't bake an upside down cake in a skillet. Very difficult to turn out.

too much bla bla bla bla
That looked amazingly delicious.
