I love these videos bc they actually TEST the recipes, unlike ALOT of other videos and internet recipes. I find WAAAYtoo many Failures- loss of time, ingredients and monry
I made this cake yesterday and followed the recipe to the letter except I reduced the sugar to only half a cup - it was moist and delicious - the walnut flavour is a pleasing surprise. Also, quick to put together and I believe, any almost any fruit could be substituted for pear. I have given it a 10/10 and have added it to my favourites and will be one of my "Go To" for an elegant cake when I want to impress.
I was just about to say this would taste great with some creme fraiche and then she put some on it! Love ya America's Test Kitchen because you always read my mind!
This is a fantastic cake, I used Anjou pears that's all my store had. I Poached them and turned out marvellous. I will make it next time with the Bosc pear if there is a real difference in the cake.
Thanks for sharing the recipe and the way of making it. Your video is easy to make and the cake is so declicious. I will make again next time when we have visitors.
This cake is marvelous! I have made it several times and my husband asks when I plan on making it again so he can have some of the Pear Upside Down Cake again!
Very yummy cake, I do recommend it! A few notes: maybe my pears were extra large, but there was no way that I was going to be able to fit more than 4 pears snuggly in the bottom, and I had to trim the ends of the slices to make them fit. Also, they say it's not a very sweet batter, but indeed it is. Finally, a removable bottom pan and a 9x1.5 inch pan definitely don't work for this... Believe me, I tried both!
Is there a difference in preparing the brown sugar topping like that in the video versus making a caramel sauce? If results are similar, I’d rather do it like in the video.
there are different varieties of walnut. Show was English Walnuts. I have Black walnut growing in my backyard. There is a definite and distinct difference
I think it's a Fat Daddio Cake Lifter, but it could be a similar brand. See: www.walmart.com/ip/Fat-Daddio-s-Cake-Lifter-Jumbo-Cookie-Spatula-10-inch-blade/50136957
@@Theviolinismyeasel you're right, had to do a bit of googling www.amazon.ae/Stainless-Shovel-Wooden-Shovels-Homemade/dp/B07MCQ9W2X?ref=SQAE-WEB-DP301 I think this is the first peel I ever saw with a bent handle
Axe it's a cake lifter. There are different styles but if you want to buy one it's available at most places that sell commercial bakeware though you should also be able to get a cake lifter online. I hope that helps.
The flavor comes from the ground walnuts added to the flour. So I think you can use any gluten-free flour that you would otherwise use for cake making.

Please tell why removable bottom pan doesn't work, leaking ? Because that is what I have and I am planning to use it. Thanks!

Black walnuts are absolutely delicious especially in chocolate chip cookies OMG you are so lucky to have black walnuts growing on your property
I subscribe to you Randy AKA black walnut King
Can the milk pudding be refrigerated over night and let get to come to room temperature before mixing it into the butter?
5:30 what is that odd spatula called? I've never seen one the size of a cake
Looks kind of like a pizza peel

I KNEW someone else would notice that cake lifter! Thanks Brien and Axe for doing the research!

Could you use almond flour in place if the walnut flour..
Okay.. I think I answered my own question. Almond Flower seems to work. Attempt 1..
WOW "no soggy pockets" That works for me
I read "elegant" as "eggplant" and was very confused for a minute 🤣
Over a year later and same bro!
Can I substitute the walnuts for pecans in this recipe?
I cant access the recipe without signing up with my email. Please dont get spammy open the site.
eating my salad....
Canelé De Bordeaux.
Any high altitude adjustments needed?
Not sure it's a good idea to cook high.

Beautiful. But too much sugar. will experiment with maple syrup substitute.

...
Are you guys hiring?
cool for 2 hours? lol seems long
Walnut flour?!?!
Wow, thats an expensive cake! Haha
Did you watch the video? It's not really walnut flour. It's a cup of walnuts ground up and mixed with regular flour.
Please tell me that I'm not the only person that thought that the title read eggplant pear walnut upside down cake.
That looks really nice, I wish it was gluten-free 😰
I read the title as eggplant-pear cake. Was really confused and disgusted
this combination of the ingredients is killing for the body organs
But what a way to go...! 😋
But what about the non-body organs?
@@juansierra5704 those are safe :)
Nonsense. You're not eating dessert every day.
Very disappointed
Why? What exactly were you expecting?
Why does every dessert you make have to have eggs? This can easily be done without eggs.
Like they said, they need the structure that the eggs and sugar create...a matrix of protein. But what have you got against eggs?
Then tell us how.
Fabulous
