    Spaced armour would entirely nullify plasma fire, at least until the entire plate melted and fell off as its not a projectile so much as it’s a transfer of heat to make things uncomfortable for the target. Impacting any surface would force the weapon to loose cohesion and deliver that energy to the plate, if there is nothing important directly attached to that plate to be heated by convection/conduction the weapon is basically useless. It’s surprising it’s not more common on UNSC.

I do wish we had a few Spartans alive during Infinite for example. I really like them from their audio logs and would have loved to see them in action. And ofc having most of a Halo games content at launch would have done wonders I think for goodwill creation.

    about spaced armor in space, it would be effective against plasma as metal is general very thermally conductive, meaning heat spreads through the metal very quickly which a space will stop this effect or minimize it, this is important because as metal heats it reaches a certain point where all of the strength of the material is lost (usually .25 times the temperature that it melts at) meaning that residual heat from a shot on one side of the ship will significantly reduce the structural strength of the metal throughout the ship without space/buffers

      @sturm9087 Год назад

      Mostly just curiosity but would the decrease in structural strength in the ship really matter that much for the UNSC. Few of the enemies they face use kinetic weapons so as long as the surrounding metal stays strong enough to hold the ship together and still requires the same melting point to get through for energy weapons wouldn’t the loss of strength effectively be a non issue?

    • @spencer4685
      @spencer4685 Год назад +1

      @@sturm9087 theoretically it would be fine, however if the structural integrity of the ship weakens, the vibrations caused from the engines can cause the overall structure to essentially shatter, not only this but if the structure is weakened enough for the inner chambers to be exposed and the airlocks to be sealed, then there is no way to perform maintenance on the engines if they get hit, unless they use robots which is completely feasible for this era. I would assume that if these panels are used to shield the engines from thermal damage, the smaller beam attaching these panels to the ship are likely made of some expensive but thermally absorbent material. these panels in a space battle scenario would work similar to era (although without the E-explosive and R-reactive portions) the panels would break off after being hit hard enough and would stop providing protection after awhile. I’m not sure if I fully answered your question or not but if i missed anything lmk

    Precision and range of a laser has nothing to do with its speed. Your maximum range will be limited by your focusing optics. Lasers DO converge/diverge. Shoot at something too far away and they'll just see a bright star as the light scatters out to be larger than their entire ship.

    • @basedeltazero714
      @basedeltazero714 Год назад +1

      It has everything to do with its speed - a laser has much, much faster time-on-target, such that a target needs to be at stupid distances to 'dodge'. They're also, generally, less prone to 'error' in that light exits lens at a narrower angle compared to a gun. You may not do much more than give the enemy a tan at a hundred thousand kilometers... but the railgun shell is literally miles behind.
      Focusing *then* limits the practical range of the laser, but - basically, it gets harder to hit with a solid projectile with distance, but no matter how far away the target is, a kinetic slug still hits just as hard. A laser is very easy to hit with out to hilarious distances, but becomes weaker quite quickly.

  • @CrystallineFoxCF

    I feel like Laser weapons replacing MACs make a lot of sense, it might cost more initially to make a laser that can pierce armor, but if the weapon is kept in service long enough, and used enough times, it eventually becomes the cheaper option, because, outside of the fuel for power generation, it costs next to nothing to fire a laser, vs a MAC round, they have to use a huge mass of Tungsten or Uranium, and unless those materials have become a lot cheaper by the 2500's, they're going to cost way more per shot

    • @anarchyandempires5452
      @anarchyandempires5452 Месяц назад

      It's funny, but in reality it wouldn't work, The reason the Bismarck started going on in circles is because The water friction on the stuck rudder kept pulling it to the side, I mean this is how all rudders work, they apply resistance to one side or the other of a ship allowing water friction to move the ship in the desired direction, The difference for Bismarck is that it decided to mess with Nigel and Nigel Put a torpedo up it's ass (And because it was a terrible design made by the few pree world War I battleship building rejects who stayed in Germany because they couldn't find a job in the United States or the United Kingdom after world War I.)
      Since there is no resistance in space even if one of the engine pods is no longer producing power there is nothing for it to drag on so the ship would continue to move forward and straight.

    something to take into account is heat radiators(i dont remember if halo takes this piece of physics into account) one of the only reasons i can fathom, aside from armoring, that the mulsanne has the plates so close to what i presume would be the reactors is to radiate heat. in space there are very few effective ways to radiate heat and if you dont youll very quickly notice that your space craft is getting hotter over time. one of the easiest ways to radiate heat in space is surface space. in my mind it makes far more sense to have the wings be heat radiators as opposed to armor plates due to the fact that heat build up, especially for a power hungry laser(or god forbid plasma weaponry) would be to dissipate the heat build up from the primary weapon systems

    • @basedeltazero714
      @basedeltazero714 Год назад

      Maybe, but then they should be glowing when the ship is in combat. Also not quite as universal as that theory would suggest.
      Given the whole 'Mil-Scifi Violently Collides With Space Opera' concept of Halo, it'd be neat if UNSC ships *started* with big glowing radiators, Covenant ships *don't* have them, and the UNSC versions started to get smaller as we got into the post-war vessels...

Because that was a lot of bleedoff, I mean, light disperses, especially in atmosphere, the visual effects would linger for a lot longer than it was actually present for, not only that, but light at a distance is hard for human eyes to track, you very much would only be seeing the after effects of the weapon other than the actualy Bright Lance.

      The Brightlance *looks* like it should be a plasma railgun or something, which... honestly? Would make sense. Would make way more sense to have your hiant super carrier built with docking bays standardized to shipyards then need specalized subclasses of escort models that require addotional modification, i feel like the only diffrence between regular and onboard escorts would be what each ship is assigned to do, hell wouldnt be suprised to see them traveling in fleets larger then its onboard complement and having it serve as a tender moreso then a carrier at least for anything prowler sized and up, would allow diffrent ships to rotate out to restock on supplys, repair damage and gove the crews more R&R and even training options given the wargames simulators onboard also I feel like the strident isn't so much a successor to the mote ground assault focused legacy models but more so a bulked up SF insertion platform given the provisions for booster frames and a focus of more drop pod based insertion options, this is like something you would use when you don't need the stealth of a prowler to insert teams but need to engage in large surface actions for raids vs conventional ground assault and occupation, I can see these used not so much in hit and run raids but hitting a soft target to the point it's completely incapacitated then loading all your troops back onboard and bugging out befoe reinforcements respond to sos calls

  • @timmyhoward6638

    Well think of it this way, direct to energy weapons are much more efficient than their chemical or even magnetic counterparts. For example in the real world ion engines reign supreme in total delta v (amount of speed you’re getting from rest from the engine) where magnetic nozzle based forms come in second and chemical engines come in after that. But besides that a photon sail with a ground based laser pusher would be even more efficient. The point is that photons are the ideal medium for radiating energy, the amount of effective energy you’re getting slinging a metal bullet with electromagnets is going to be a lot less than the energy you’d get in simply beaming the energy straight into a target because of all the energy you’re loosing powering magnets. Now how the UNSC can manufacture such a big, I assume to be a fiber laser, without melting the lens is a mystery in its own right. Maybe they distort gravity itself to be an ideal lens like the covenant did. Who knows. Point is that lasers are much more efficient at delivering energy, as long as you can make a good one that is.

    3:54 that wouldn't work, In order for the ship to drag to the side like that it would need friction, there is no resistance in the void of space so The ship would continue to move straight regardless if it lost an engine pod, it would however lose about a third of it's acceleration, and about half of its rear maneuvering nozzles, something that would almost certainly be lethal for such a thin skin ship that relies on its speed and maneuvering to stay alive.

If they just kept the original design for the original ships and then introduced the strident when Chief is rescuing the Infinity, then it would be much more impactful (and that's not including the horrid backstory telling of the Spartan IIs cutscenes, with all of them wearing the gen 2 Mjolnir armor -.-)

    3:55 While the Stalwart is a pre-war design and the engine pods might be threatened by insurgent attack, during the Human-Covenant war such a weakness is irrelevant: if a Covenant ship gets a bead on a frigate it will pop like a bubble. The only hope is that it can fire its MAC before that happens.
    6:30 Note that would, in fact, be much more powerful than basically anything we see in the series, with a yield in the teratons TNT. On the one hand, it womps Covenant ships. On the other hand, the waste heat should vaporize itself, and the bombs that destroy the Earth stations are so much smaller...
    8:10 It's called a 'reflex laser' which suggests that it's... reflecting... something? One could imagine a series of lasers along the arms pulsing independently, somehow... redirected by Skiffy Bullshit in a 'forwards' direction?
    9:20 Well... lasers are, as a rule, less efficient than coilguns, both at the 'muzzle' and the target. So typically equal energy should get you less boom per joule than a MAC.
    10:20 Well... laser diffract as *diffuse* entities, each individual photon scattering. The entire 'beam' isn't offset - not from this, anyways, the physical precision of your *steering* - i.e. your turret or actually pointing the ship - could be an issue. Moving out of the way of a laser is hard, as well, because it can just track you...
    On the other hand, you can rotate, cause the laser to hit an undamaged section of the hull and be unable to do much more than score the paint, so to speak.
    28:05 Yes... but does this work when you're not dealing with the Covenant's staggering (lack of) EWAR capabilities? That is some... staggering
    29:05 Armor is irrelevant given the firepower disparities involved in the Human-Covenant war... and possibly in pre-war scenario, too, where UNSC ships would rarely encounter seriously armed enemies. Post-war... well, it's a bit more relevant now.
    On the other hand, sight is irrelevant when the human crew is mostly there for repairs and a leash on the AI that actually do the point-and-shoot... which is a problem when AI is suddenly Highly Suspect.
    30:30 Given the EWAR focus of the ship... perhaps the Anlace's lasers are meant to be used to burn out enemy sensors? Suddenly dumping A Lot More Power Than It's Meant To Handle into a radar/lidar/etc is a very effective way to fuck the whole system up.
    34:42 Where is it though? The 'lip' hanging down from the upper arm blocks the spine of the ship.

    Comparing laser and ballistic weapons in terms of "what does the most damage" isn't the way you should view it. The Brightlance is going to be effective against armor, not the best against nano-composite BUT against forged alloy...? Oh yeah, UNSC/ONI is getting paranoid about insurrection once more! MAC's are gonna crack things open, the lasers flay it apart, to simplify

    Not 0.4% lol

    • @gammacompanymark
      @gammacompanymark  Год назад +1

      Well I did make a mistake, but it was that the correct number is apparently 4% the speed of light, not .4%
      All thanks to a quote from the Fall of Reach where someone said that the SuperMacs fire at "point four tenths" which could be interpreted as 0.04 or 0.4.
      3/5 is way too fast, that wouldn't make any sense.

      I love halo ships, so cool that u do ships break down.
      Will you do more rare ships like of OAS for example ?
      And also covenant ships ?
      I have know Halo for my whole life but informations for some rare convenant ships is hard to find, May be it could be a good idea to do videos about less know ship classes
      What do you think ?

    i still hate how the infinity was killed in cannonically 5 minutes. The banished are way to strong, i mean i get it, how do you top the covenant. But i wouldve preferred less "super high tech" and more brute force. And if the infinity took down a few banished ships itd be..bette.I get the ibe they made the UNSC strong,and decided they liked when humanity was almost destroyed, like on reach or the battle of earth.but..cmon....

    Ngl the Banished as a whole are a pretty stupid faction halo lore wise, clearly created by someone who had no intentions of recognizing any of the existing lore that created what they now try to pretend is their work, that or the writers never bothered to learn anything about halo in the first place, the brutes were wiped to near extinction before submitting to the Covenant, then suffered further losses in their defeat...... Then out of fucking no where they're the strongest and most baddest bad guys yet and they even have a whole custom made fleet of ships Atriox pulled out of his physically superior asshole, if they had atleast given them primarily scavenged Covenant ships it would have been better but nope... All these custom black and red painted "brute" ships get generated out of thin air by the power of shitty writing and a lack of creativity............ Poor Halo............. Not to mention that scene with Chief, like why is this one space monkey just WAY bigger and WAY badder than all his other monkey buddies? They never even bother to give some cool explanation like he was a genetic experiment by the supposed dumb space monkeys created to try and free their people. That too would even be kind of stupid but it would be something... I mean they are regarded as being less intelligent then the average "intelligent lifeform" its almost like they were never designed to be the main bad guy, even there betrayal of the split jaws never positioned them as the number one baddies, just the new number two, and very briefly...
