      AS a Lifer Cowboys fan in Philly...I have over 750 Cowboys games and the ONLY footage I had of this game was the NFL FILMS GOW and it was not even te entire half hour...I looked for this game for YEARS...now 4 years ago it turned up out of nowhere...Thank God I have this game now..last week I finally got the 1981 Cowboys at Cards, I now have the full season. The ONLY game I need, only two are: 1978 Cowboys @ Giants and 1978 MNF Cowboys at Redskns

    I was at this game thanks to tickets from a vendor. It was just as exciting as it appears here. The fans were just nuts. It was the start of the Giants return to the glory of the 50's and early 60's.

    First thing I noticed is how intense this game was; the crowd noise, the hits, guys getting injured in the first half (Perry and Perkins carted off and vicious hit on Bright while fielding a punt). The two announcers - butter! I had never seen this game - wow! Thanks for posting 🙏.

    I watched this entire game from start to finish with my Grandfather. My father had raised me a Jets fan, which is pretty much a form of child abuse. I can remember being a misguided 8 year old who loved the Dallas Cowboys at the time as well and was a big fan of Tony Dorsett. The Cowboys seemed to always be on national tv back then. Growing up in the late 70's and early 80s, there were plenty of young kids who followed both the Steelers and the Cowboys. The day of this game, my Grandfather became angry with me and yelled "you're not a Dallas fan, you're from New York, you're a Giants fan!" I said "OK Grandpa" and never rooted for the Cowboys again. I didn't understand the importance of this game all those years ago, but looking back, this is one of my favorite moments as a Giants fan. Thank you, and rest in peace, Grandpa. The irony is the Giants needed a Jet victory over Green Bay I believe the following day to secure the playoff spot.

    The period from the 1958 Championship game to Super Bowl XVI, is the greatest era in football history. The 1981 season produced what is arguably, the best post season in NFL history. Much like this game, the whole playoffs were filled with drama. The highlights being The Epic in Miami, The Catch, and because of the weather, The Freezer Bowl.

    • @buckwheatROCKS
      @buckwheatROCKS 3 года назад +2

      Was the epic the one with Kellen Winslow collapsing from exhaustion OT game then the catch was Clark for SF and the freezer bowl was Bengals vs Chargers and I felt bad for Fouts and company as they never made it to SB.

    Thanks for uploading this game. Was a U.S. Marine when I saw this game from my room in the barracks. The future was looking bright for the Giants and indeed it was. That was a day when the NFL had at least a shred of nobility about it and not just a Super Bowl halftime show or a conduit for politically correct Pablum puke. . . . like today.

    Yes, the Giants had the best defense in the 1981-1990 period as a whole, but George Young and the scouts could never come up with a set of top-notch wide receivers, and not even one.
    On the other hand, many excellent offensive linemen, running backs, and tight ends.
    Smash-mouth football in the 1981-1991 period, Giants, Bears, Redskins, collectively besting the 49ers.
    These are beautiful memories and part of US history. Heartfelt thanks to those of you who recorded, archived, digitalized, and published these games.

    My very first game at the old Meadowlands; age 8 and 11/12ths. Mezzanine seats. It was absolutely frigid. Overtime win over the Cowboys to get us back into the post-season for the first time since '63. Joe Danelo tied it up with 30 seconds to go and then put the game away in overtime. I'd never heard a sound like that before. The feeling was electric. I was hooked. Watching the game again puts me right back there - thank you so much for posting!!!

      One reason they got rid of those December Saturday games was that they couldn't ensure good match-ups. They got lucky in 1981. But in 1980, the two final Saturday games involved teams that were out of playoff contention -- Jets at Miami and Bears at Tampa. The other reasons were that ratings are generally better on Sunday, and they wanted more flexibility to move games to Sunday Night Football when it became the marquee prime time package.

Showed his clutch, good run stopping in the end of 4q, and then recovered fumble in the overtime (literally, took the ball away from Tony) and after that great pass rush (pressure, hurry) on QB, collaborated with INT of Hunt, which caused winning FG. Hunt, Martin, Jeter, Carson and the whole defense were great

    I remember watching this game, I was 13, and it was the first time since I started watching football in 1974, that I saw The Giants beat The Cowboys

    The Giants had the best defense in the 80s hands down.

    • @shanetrimble9265

      Probably right. Except 1985 Bears and the 1983 Raiders defense is a little underrated.

    Those nice dark blue unis the Cowboys had, Giants needed a win; Ray Perkins was their coach that time. Giants, Packers, Seahawks, and Jets were last place teams that time.

    This is how my E.F.L Giants looked when they beat one of my childhood friends E.F.L Cowboys Eddie in the 80's in our League the E.F.L they didn't have the old ugly gray pants and The N.Y. on the side of the helmet like they do today, I wish they would go back to the days of Lawrence Taylor and Harry Carson and Andy Headen when they wore the white on white and the words Giants on the side of the helmets

    Interesting scenario would've been had COWBOYS-GIANTS game end in a tie PACKERS & 49ERS would've loss both COWBOYS & GIANTS would've gotten what they accompanied GIANTS a playoff berth & COWBOYS Home Field Advantage throughout the NFC Playoffs

    This Cowboys loss still bothers me after all these years.
    Very cold Saturday Day afternoon game. The Jets were playing the Packers the next day to also attempt to earn a playoff birth. The Jets would beat the Packers and also earn a playoff spot along with the Giants.

      @helpisontheway9405 Danny White was an underappreciated and underrated QB. His own crime was not playing a NFC Championship game at home. Otherwise, he would be a SB winner.
      As for the current NFL, the product is weak.
      Very poor. All passing , no rushing and flags being thrown after every other play.

    • @nymike06
      @nymike06 8 месяцев назад

      @helpisontheway9405 I sort of blame Steve Spurrier for the demise of the current day NFL he brought that wide open spread offense from college to the NFL. The Oilers K Gun offense and the Chargers 1980s offense were different and required skilled players. Nowadays, it's a joke. No more running backs, no more full backs and now consists of QB's who run all day and end up injury prone. It resembles the arena league

    This game set up the next day with Packers-Jets, which would prove to be the single biggest NFL game in New York proper of all time and the biggest involving a New York team since Super Bowl III as the Jets had to win that game just to assure them AND the Giants of making the playoffs.

    Injury to Simms made Brunner starting QB. Not as talented as Simms but taller and able to see over lineman making him effective. Won starting Job in Parcells first year in 1983 but ineffective and Simms reclaimed starting job.

      Brunner was 6’5” Simms 6’3” so the added height I don’t think made that much of a difference but Simms did have an unusually amount of passes batted for a QB his height
