    Ken Gelman
    I have to thank you for posting this game. When this was played I was onboard USS Cook (FF 1083) and it was during Desert Shield/Desert Storm so I never saw a single play from it until today. We were in-port for the 49ers game and for the Superbowl, but this one I had to miss. I'm a life-long Giants fan (I still remember watching the CBS special, "The Violent World of Sam Huff") and you've made this Memorial Day weekend extra special for this vet. I'll re-watch the Niners game later, but for now I have to say thank you again--there's a big smile on my face.

      I missed few playoff games and a super bowl in 1994 (93 season) because I was on my way to Somalia on board the USS Frederick. I love it when someone posts the games I had to miss. If the NFL really wanted to to do a favor to military people they would have shipped us videos of the games so we could watch them when we had a bit of time off... come to think of it I was on an LST we never had time off lol.

    As a bear fan, this one was painful. What a beat down. I was 10 year old kid watching the bears take a beating. That was a heck of a Giants team. It was a reason they were in the super bowl and won that year. It was not just the bills kicker missing that field goal. Scott Norwood.

      Same here. January 1991 I was also 10. The SuperFans debuted on Saturday Night Live the night before and this was the game the game they were talking about with the Mini-Bears vs the Giants (Ditka was full-grown, though). This was an embarrassing game for the Bears. But like Ditka said post-game, The Giants were a better team. I remember the NFC Central being weak that year, but I just looked at Bears's schedule that year and it VERY weak. They only beat one team that finished over .500 and they beat four 5-11 teams. They even lost one game each to Minnesota and Green Bay who both finished 6-10.

    Belichick was a genius using Mike Fox as the 4th lineman against the Bears, then a 3 man line against the 49ers, and finally a 2 man line against the Bills in SB 25. The Giants sacrificed the run against the Bills to stop Jim Kelly.

    • @michaelbelfer1069
      @michaelbelfer1069 6 лет назад +8

      The plan vs the Bills was to play a combination of hard hitting linebackers and safety's to knock the hell out of Bill receivers after they caught the ball. Buffalo's star Andre Reed said he had never been hit so often or so hard in his life(Carl Banks). The Giants said Reed was hearing footsteps in one brutal hit early in the game and became a non factor after that.. Giants had the hardest hitting team in the NFL this season.

    • @mm-gl7sz
      @mm-gl7sz 5 лет назад +3

      Yeah but as Belichick found out and has since copied along with coming up with other defenses and offenses, that same 4 2 5 using either 2 down lineman with 2 linebackers up front or using 4 down lineman up front, you don't have to sacrifice the run game. Like Denver in the 1991 AFC title game, Washington in the 91 92 Super Bowl, Miami in the first game in 1992, and Dallas in both Super Bowls against the bills, used a disguised run and pass blitz where they would line up in the 4 2 5 and change their defense right before the snap. It was very effective against both Kelly and Thurman Thomas, who were the keys to stopping the bills offense. In sb 25 if the giants hadn't been able to run the ball there's no play action passing and they don't keep buffalo's offense off the field so allowing Thurman to get 100 yards could have backfired. It almost did anyway. If that had been Christie instead of Norwood that field goal is made and the bills win especially since Christie played all his home games in Tampa Stadium before being acquired by the bills

I thought to myself, I don't remember the Giants running up the score with the last TD; and then I saw that the Bears stupidly called a timeout with less than two minutes left. Scooby Carr As I said I'm not putting Chicago down. I've nothing but respect for the Bear team of the 1984-1990. Like others I believe they could have played in more than one Super Bowl during that time period. BTW, the Giants played at SF following this game and won on a last second fg by Matt Bahr. Finally the Bears and Giants both had great defense for the entire decade of the 1980's and played a similar style of run first offense Wasn't trying to offend or put you down him. I've been to Chicago (to visit a girlfriend at the time,1986) and thoroughly enjoyed the city. Like Mark Bavaro said, Buddy Ryan was the only opposition coach he ever hated as do I and Mike Ditka. In 1983, I was watching the NFL draft, in Morgantown West Virginia. Hostetler was our hero. He had transferred down from Penn State, because Joe Paterno wanted to make him a linebacker and not a Quarterback. Todd Blackledge got the job. So when they started to interview the Giants sports "journalists" from the big city of New York, the only nice thing they had to say about Hostetler was..."well he played for Penn state for awhile, so he should be OK"... I was SOOoooo mad I threw my Fritos at the TV set, and then called the sports desk of the local paper. When I told Micky Furfari (RIP), what the guy said, and was very outraged (as I should have been), Mickey just laughed and said, well we will see.

    The Bears of this era always feasted on a weak NFL Central, with 5 or 6 gimmie wins against the Lions, Packers and Bucs. You knew when they made the playoffs they'd get pounded. They were no match for the Niners, Redskins or Giants of that era.

    Hey RUclips: Put the effing ads where they belong. They're obviously not random; they show up within two seconds of a touchdown, interception, etc. It's unbelievably annoying to see something super-exciting happen and get cut off before you can fully digest it, watch the replay, etc. Even if you just changed the algorithm to drop them in after 15 seconds instead of 2 seconds it would improve things massively. Best case would be to put them in where the tv broadcast has them, but I'm sure that's too much to ask.

      Yup - this 1990 season was fool's gold for Chicago. They didn't beat a single playoff team all season, all 4 other teams in their division finished 6-10 and they lost 4 of their last 6 regular-season games - 3 in blowout fashion. Even their first-round playoff win was against an 8-8 Saints team that was never over .500 all season. This was not that good of a team.

    Who would have sincerely thought that just two scant years after this debacle that Mike Ditka would lose his job as the coach of the Bears? During this time and even after the disaster that was 1989 I think that Ditka was wearing out his welcome in Chicago.

    • @thepunditspundit1776
      @thepunditspundit1776 6 лет назад +2

      Scooby Carr Ditka was a good coach for his style, which was tough, grind it out, no nonsense, blood and guts football. Even after Ryan, his defenses were top notch.
      But the problem with that one dimensional “Bears football” is that teams could Out-Bear the Bears, but the Bears were not going to Out-Niner the Niners. Ditka’s offenses could be written on an envelope, and he liked you, as a QB, to earn your stripes to throw downfield. The only QB he ever had that properly fit his mold of a QB was Harbaugh...a tough, decently accurate, ball control QB that won 16-10 games, and held the ball for two hours at a time. Everyone else wanted to let it fly and were handcuffed.
      Watching this game and seeing Belichick, it reminds me that this dude has SEVEN rings and has been to 11 Super Bowls. Absolutely insane.

      Here’s the thing though. Ditka lost against only the very best…and that is all. Definitely a second tier coach for that time. Beat everyone else. Harbaugh loses awful, unnecessary games 2-3 times a year

    • @walterlv01
      @walterlv01 4 года назад +1

      LMAO Ditka was never known as a great in-game strategist. Not to rag on the guy but he just wasn't. Kind of had the old-school, Steve Spurrier type mindset where he just did the first thing that came to mind instead of analyzing the situation. He was no Belichick when it came to that sort of thing.
