I remember this game. I was laying down in the living room floor, doing homework watching this game! I had just turned 11 years old the previous month. Ah, so many memories!
Love Howard Cosell's comment: " Tony Dorsett is to the running back position what Lynn Swann is to the wide receiver position. " Such a great comparison..two of the most graceful and iconic styles of all time.
I was 18 years old had just started grade 13 (which no longer exists in Canada) my last year of high school..I had been a Cowboys fan for years already since the early 70's Tony Dorsett was my fav player!! I'd watch these games on our Color TV (which was still a cool thing) with my dad 'Monday Night Football' was huge back then..Frank Gifford / Don Meredith / Howard Cosell (all passed away now)...great memories!! great post!!
Everson Walls #24 of the Dallas Cowboys was thought to be too slow for the National Football League after he ran the 40-yard dash in a disappointing 4.72 seconds during workouts. Eventually, however, his hometown Cowboys signed him as an undrafted free agent, entering the league as a 21-year-old. He went on to lead the league in interceptions in 3 seasons (1981, 1982 and 1985) while also being selected to 4 pro bowls and 3 first-team all-pro teams.
Our unis and esp logo were awesome back then same gos for dallas...hundreds of drunks were arrested in Foxboro that night and mnf was not allowed back in NE until 1995 haha....same thing happened in 1976 vs jets.
I always liked Everson Walls. Unfortunately, I don't think he'll get in the Hall of Fame. I think last year was his last eligible year. I think he still holds the record for seasons leading the NFL in interceptions with 3.
36:19 doesn't get much more classic than this....just look at the folks in this commercial and what some went on to....who knew that Maddens name and face would become legend in a video game played by grown ass men....lol. just awesome 👌
1981. The Cowboy team that missed going to the Super Bowl because of Dwight Clark's TD catch. There is some really questionable officiating in this game.
Matt A I did Matt. I remember getting updates from CBS of that early regular season game at San Fran which we ended up getting crushed, 45-14. I recall feeling stunned at the updates and final score.
a year earlier the Cowboys beat the niners in an even more devastating blowout. those two blowouts are kinda weird. we got the classic game of course in the conference championship 81
Of course Frank gives the wrong final score at the end of the game...lol. perhaps early signs of his cognitive problems in his later years as the night grew late. Or perhaps just farigue.

Ryan Doyle you need to bone up on the New England Patriots.they were talent laden from the mid 70's to mid eighties and got screwed over badly in several playoff games.
@@johnadams3107 They were a second tier NFL franchise before Brady and Bellichick arrived. Yes they went to two Super Bowls but they were blown out both times and it was during the era when the AFC was the JV league to the NFC. They also played in the worst stadium in the NFL. The Sullivans never had a lot of money. They bankrupted themselves entirely by promoting the Jackson's Victory tour.......the Patriots were a pretty sad franchise overall and I started paying attention in the mid 80's so I saw much of it first hand. Younger fans who think of the Patriots as this evil, invincible force have no idea how differently they were once thought of by fans around the league--if they were ever thought of at all. I mean there was a long period when the Dolphins were NFL royalty and the Patriots were second class citizens!
@Jack Torrance Reading comprehension is key. I said the Dolphins were NFL royalty from about 1970--1985. The Pats were at least one rung lower. If not two. They didn't win a game in Miami from 1966--1985! And no, I'm not a Patriots hating troll. I'm a Pats fan with a grasp of reality and history.
@@BookClubDisaster 76 to 88 they were pretty good , sucked from 89 to 93 but since then they have only had 2 losing seasons . We were definitely 2nd class in 70s and 80s to dolphins , dallas, raiders , steelers, 49ers , rams but so was everyone else . I think dynasty ends this year but what a great run....81 patriots must've been best 2 and 14 team in NFL history, they lost a lot of close games and had a top 5 offense

I spent many monday nights on the living room floor doing homework, but mostly watching the football game.

Back when the Patriots had cool uniforms.
Awesome version of the pats uniform, until 85 that is.
@@ninjamaster7706 They did change their uniforms in 1985, didn't they.
Nah the Pats 90's uniforms were the best.

What a bad call on that Cavanaugh TD pass.
ABC: Frank Gifford (PBP), Howard Cosell & Don Meredith (C)
CBS Radio: Jack Buck (PBP) & Hank Stram (C)
KRLD Radio: Verne Lundquist (PBP) & Brad Sham (C)
WEEI Radio: John Carlsen (PBP) & Jon Morris (C)
Im not a New England fan.. but I like there old style helmet emblem .. then what they have now.. :)
If the Patriots went back to these uniforms I would probably like them a lot more even though I am sick of seeing them in the Super Bowl.
Boston Patricia maybe ?
I remember my freshman year in High school seeing Ron Springs Walk I new he was special and when he touched the football @Touchdown...
RIP #30 Tatupu.
Man I miss those cowboys jerseys
I miss the pants. These green ones they wear now suck
Stanley Morgan and Ray Clayborn were/are damn underrated. They were solid for a long time...both logged 13 yrs with the Pats.
Thanks for posting this.
80's NFL was awesome! War anabolic steroids and NO challenges. Just straight up smash mouth football!
@Deese Knutz The nineties were pretty cocky and optimistic too.

can we get our unis back....JERRY...🙄
I agree! The 70's Blue ones too!
Too bad there was no ten minute review on the fumble right before halftime. That would have added so much to everyone's enjoyment of the game.
Today that would be an incomplete pass. The criteria back in 1981 only required both feet down for a completion. Nothing about a football move.
thanks. classic MNF

Patriots in deep trouble at 0-2. Dolphins, of course, off to a great start at 3-0
How times have changed.
How could Everson Walls not be drafted...tells you alot about so called scouts in the NFL
He played for Grambling, thats why.
Cool Patriots helmets.
Randy White vs John Hannah
Why is Drew Pearson not in the Hall of Fame?
Probably should be, he was definitely one of best players of the powerhouse 70s cowboys

Dallas was probably best team in 81
The old Schafer Stadium.
I wonder at what point during this season did Dallas realize that the team in SF was going to be a problem?
