I thank you Ben, for all these helpful videos, and, taking time to help me, even though it may not be a profit for you. That speaks volumes to your character, and honesty. Rare today. Thank you again, and best of success in all endeavors ! Appreciate it .
I just got the part from walmart and had it installed in 15 min. I re-calibrated the washer just like he said. it's working. he saved me $$$4. my part was $22. learn from a master. this video is for real
I can't thank you enough for this tutorial! I am an old lady (65) who has never attempted such a thing before. I didn't understand the error codes fully (not your fault), but I took a chance on the shift capacitor being the most common cause of a Maytag not spinning, especially if it has been overloaded. Guilty! This has been a most valuable experience. I learned two very important things from this. The first being DON'T OVERLOAD THE WASHER and two, when something is as easy to change out as this shift capacitor is, YOU CAN DO IT! You saved me a service call and I thank you so much! Will you marry me? Just kidding, but almost not kidding at all. This made me beam with gratitude. Thanks also for telling me about the nut driver because I didn't have any.
This is an EXCELLENT video. The narration is clear and easy to follow because he speaks well, never ah, ums, or ya'knows and speaks at a rate the is slow enough to follow but not - word- by-word that can be irritating. VERY nicely done. THANKS!!
This is such a great, well-made video that is easy to understand for someone who is not familiar with appliance repair. Thank you so much! This video helped me to easily diagnosed my washer's problem of a bad capacitor. I was able to buy a multimeter & capacitor for $35 & repair it myself. Again, thank you so much for providing this great service to people! 👍
Wish I found your video first, I replaced parts and it still didn't work, after hours of reading and testing I finally found and figured out the calibration mode and we were washing again. I was minutes away from buying a new washer when calibration solved it. Thanks for including that one very important step.

But they don't. These kinds of videos are super helpful and I found this guy super easy to understand!
Hey @Bens Appliances and Junk, I lost my job a couple weeks ago. About 5 days later, my Maytag Bravos washer wouldn’t agitate or spin. I’m fairly handy, so I did some searching and found this video. Following your advice, I was able to figure out it was a bad capacitor. I never knew about the hidden service manual either! I inspected/tested the other stuff just to make sure I didn’t have multiple problems. My man, I spent less than $60 as I only needed a new capacitor. You saved me 100’s of $$$ at a time when money is tight. Thanks.
Best video on this washer that I've seen. Nice job! The Tech Sheet can be accessed from under the washer without removing the lid. For the black actuator, the drive motor is tested between pins 3 & 6, not 5 & 6. Pin numbers can be found molded into the male electrical connector.
This was actually super helpful! I just ran into this issue at the end of my night, and searched why my washer wouldn’t spin, and this video was suggested to me. Very informative! Thanks for this!
Wanted to thank you so much for your videos on washer repair. You saved me hundreds of dollars! Your videos are very well done and you are an excellent speaker/ teacher. Very easy to understand.
WOW. What a great video! Thoroughly explained everything. Loved how you showed exactly where to connect the multi-meter. My problem seems to have been the shift actuator. Luckily was able to pick up the part locally. Only took a few minutes to reinstall it. Ran the recalibration mode as you showed and everything seems to be working. Running a test load now. Thank you very much!!
Wow, THANK YOU! I am not very good at fixing things, but you taught me how to figure out the problem and repair my washer! THANK YOU! You are awesome! You saved me a lot of moneyyyyy
It worked. Thought my washing machine was dead. Took 30 minutes to fix with Ben’s instruction and I can assure you it saved me a couple hundred bucks. Ben thank you and 5***** for the guidance. Just a cleaning of the connections was required.
For someone who never had any repair and troubleshooting experience before you started your business, you sure have come along way. Great videos and great help ! Thanks
@@mhern57 because if you're running the machine with the striker in the lid switch housing and open it up during spin, you could get hurt. I am only saying this as a safety precaution. Obviously if you're doing it only to test things and are taking precautions it makes sense to attempt it.
Hello ben. Thanks for getting back to me regarding why messing with the lid switch can be dangerous. I thought the motor was leaking oil the parts place said Motors don't leak oil and it's probably coming from the transmission.. 240 bucks and a week to ship. I'm going to check your video regarding the transmission but it's probably time for a new washer. This one's only 5 years old. I guess they're designed to quit after that long. Junk.
Excellent video !!! Originally I got ripped off by the appliance repair guy from Sears who came over to check the washer . He ran a two minute self disagnoses and said it would cost over $600 for a new control board to repair so it wouldn't be worth fixing and gave me a 10% off coupon to buy a new one at Sears and charged me the $79 diagnoses fee . After watching this video I found out it was the actuator so I bought a new one for $25 and now the machine works perfect. Sears pulled a total rip off scam to get you to buy a new one. I complained to consumer affairs but they said it's legal to scam and cheat consumers and they really don't so anything down there but collect their government pay.
Thanks, Ben! I've been troubleshooting our Centennial off and on for a week or so, until I came across the point in this video where you mentioned Drain Pump related to Not Spinning (my problem). Sure enough, when I removed the pump, there was an obstruction! Good to go now! 💯 -Mitch A J.
I tell you what I've come across a lot of these in my work and I seem to always get stopped up on one. I have learned the actuator is a very common part to go bad. And checking the code and calibrating is definitely necessary for a good diagnosis. this is a very educational video thank you for Putting this together.
Thank you so much for this video! Our Maytag Centennial wasn't wanting to spin and the lid lock wasn't working. We started off by replacing the lid lock. Then, we continued on with your video and turned the machine over to get underneath it. The belt had slipped off! It is working great again :)

Thank for the very well explained video. I am just blown away with the technology in this machine. It appears that the problem we had with our machine was that someone or a power interruption caused the cycle interruption and it just lost it's memory of where it was in the cycle. I tested the machine with the diagnostic in the control module, according to your instrictions and all came out ok , so I ran the memory reset and "Presto" it works like a champ! Thank you again for your directions as they were extremely well described!
This was a great video and easy to follow. HOWEVER, let me just add before you start taking anything apart get a drop light (very bright light needed) look in seam around drum and center piece (actuator I think). I removed $0.26 cents which had locked up the machine and it would not wash but did spin. Almost called a service man cause codes told me that the Motor/Capacitor was the problem. Removing the quarter and penny saved me $189.00 service call plus any parts they would have magically insisted I needed.
I read the comments and I honestly agree, excellent video, explanation with easy to understand language, thank you very much, the problem with my washing machine was the condenser, I saved hundreds of dollars👍🏼
Great video and a real help. My own problem was a bit different but this video helped me sort things out. Two additional observations: First, my problem was that the machine would fill but wouldn't go into "wash". I had several codes that were close to, but not the ones listed here. I found a broken wire on the capacitor connector. 30 seconds of soldering: problem solved. Note that the wiring around the motor assembly gets a good deal of motion and over time, metal fatigue can set in and break a wire, usually near where it is crimped (like the capacitor connector). The other comment is that I was able to use the drain and spin setting (could probably use the rinse and spin also) to clear the machine but it also verifies that the motor assembly and the pump are working properly. Thanks again!
Ben, your videos were a great help to me. Within the last week I had a washer that would get stuck in the spin cycle. From your videos, I learned how to check and read codes...found 2 codes, one for the lid lock and another related to the shift actuator (an F5 code and F7E1 code, respectively). I replaced the lid lock first and ran recalibration...it got stuck in the spin cycle...no lid lock code but still the F7E1...had to order the shift actuator from McCombs in Lancaster (I am from NE OH myself) but I got that today and was able to get a full load through tonight. Thank you for these videos! Very well explained and helpful!
It's funny I was just watching your brothers videos earlier and then thought I should try to figure out how to fix my washer finally..and I find your channel. Good video too.
This was a huge help! Thank you! My washer stopped doing the high-speed spin a little over a week ago, making me need to to a Drain & Spin cycle that got about half the remaining water out. Thanks to this I figured out it was the shift actuator. The replacement was $27 and took just a couple minutes to install. Works just as it should again.
Every video you made is informative and extremely helpful. Whether buying or fixing an appliance I can just go thru your videos for a reference. Thank you!!!!!❤
I'm both good at mechanics and good at electronic parts. But I had a lot of trouble understanding the error codes. This video helped me clarify the error codes. And the use of the multimeter to test the electronic parts helped to verify the problem. Thanks man!
Thanks for a very informative video. Our diagnostic code (F7E6) pointed us in the direction of the shift actuator, that as it turned out, tested fine. When I pulled it out, I noticed that the long plastic pin was not in the oval slot on that clutch thing. Once I figured out that the actuator was fine, I moved the clutch lever so the pin on the actuator was able to engage and reassembeled. Ran a calibration and everything was back up and running just fine. I think I may have read somewhere that if you have a really unbalanced load, that pin can come out. Best of luck in your business.
Ben: My MDW655DW was making a horrible noise and then quit spinning. (Last year I replaced a bad transmission, the splutch and belt.) Upon tilting my washer up, I discovered white plastic powder under the unit and a perfect circle ground out of the belt guard. I found that the nut had come loose. After reinstalling the splutch nut, the washer spun and worked perfect! Thanks for your video!
I was ready to go buy a new washer, when my wife send me your video😂😂 thankfully it was nothing major, a dime had gotten stuck in the drum and would spin, got it out and it works just as good
HAHAH... OMG... I'm not handy at all.. and I'm watching this video intently, trying to decide if I want to attempt this, or call someone... and I get to the part that says "This is dangerous, so keep your hands and belongings away from the unit, unless it's a Nickleback CD." and I lost it... roared.. thank you! Although I'm a Nickleback fan... this just made my day!!
What a fantastic troubleshooting/repair walk through. YOU, Sir, were meant to do this. I believe you may have helped to resolve my issue but I'm gonna' need to pick up a better multi-meter tomorrow. I'll follow up then but for now, LIKED and SUBSCRIBED, my brother!
I picked up the new Fluke Multi-meter and was able to get much more accurate resistance readings. Although all of my resistance values, for the various components, were where they should be, I deduced the root of my problem was still in some way, related to the shift actuator. When engaged to spin, the tub spins but when manually testing agitate, the actuator failed to shift to agitate. Likewise, when engaged to agitate, the pan agitates but when manually testing spin, the actuator failed to shift to spin. Therefore, I purchased a new shift actuator and installed it. After calibration, and additional manual tests of the spin and agitate functions, it seemed to be working as designed. After 5 wash cycles I am able to confirm replacing the shift actuator resolved my issue. THANK YOU, AGAIN for the wonderful walk through!
Thank you the trouble shooting, I checked all components and when I had the machine laid down and manually spun the basket a lot of loose change fell through and that was the problem! Thank you!,
This is the single most helpful video I've ever seen on youtube on any topic. Do you have any videos on 2003 Jeep Wrangler electrical repair because I could really use the help.
Yeah, if you can fix it, fix it. These SHOULD last 10 years before a critical failure. Most parts to fix them are.... $50 tops. Most are $20-35, though. We fix a LOT of these and outside of a bad transmission, the codes make fixes easy.

Great video, thanks found bad capacitor on my Maytag 655DW1. $13 on Ebay and easy change out thanks to you. Saved service call and $$$$$. Once you understand the diagnostics and test modes it all became clear.
Thats the BIG secret on these machines - if you understand the diagnostics, you can just "Sit there" and fiddle with the knob until you isolate whats bad. Any more, when we get this type in our shop, we won't plug water in until we just throw it on an open electric plug, and start testing all the non-water stuff thru diagnostics and manual test. You can eliminate like.... 90% of problems that way in maybe 10min if you deal with them enough. Super "Simple" system once you know how those awful lights work.

The video was easy to follow and extremely helpful. Thanks to you, I have determined the capacitor is bad and ordered a new one. This is saving me somewhere between $100 and $125 dollars.
My washer would work right up to the final spin. Lid locked & spin light flashing. Code F7E1. Everything tested fine on my multimeter. I was ready to schedule a service call. On a hunch, I decided to replace the capacitor. The only part I couldn't tell if it was working or not. Turns out it was weak and wouldn't start the fast spin. Problem solved. Thanks for posting this vid, much appreciated!

Maybe If one works for me I'll be confident to repair and sell the other set. Both are making all kinds of noise when it supposed to be spinning One has plastic shavings and the collar around the basket beat off Don't know how to properly level the machine
note that the actuator might still be bad even if it passes the ohm's test. I rebuilt the entire washer including inside the transmission and inspected, cleaned and lubricated the pulley clutch kit. I went through all the troubleshooting steps and measured the capacitor, motor and actuator resistance. actuator still will make clicking noises and won't shift even though clutch is easy to shift. you can hear and feel the actuator clicking if you put your hand on the actuator motor. DIY rule of thumb is. assuming the latch, water and drain work. replace the actuator and pulley clutch kit. if it still doesn't work. return parts (if possible) or sell back on ebay and scrap the washing machine. at that point it's probably the mainboard or something too expensive to be worth changing. I'm DIY and figured all this out in about a day so I'm not an expert so cross check my advice.

Nice!
@@bensappliancesandjunk Also just diagnosed my maytag and ordered a shift actuator for $15. Thank you!
Thank you for going into depth, step by step explaining and simplifying everything
Hi I think I have a similar problem. Did you have a fault code or no faults were displayed even if the shift actuator was faulty?
@@vincentperreault3958 Sorry for the late reply. I had the correct fault code for it.
Every video you made is informative and extremely helpful. Whether buying or fixing an appliance I can just go thru your videos for a reference. Thank you!!!!!❤
Thank you so much for sharing these trade skills!! Such a big help to people who can't afford new appliances or big repair costs!
I'm both good at mechanics and good at electronic parts. But I had a lot of trouble understanding the error codes. This video helped me clarify the error codes. And the use of the multimeter to test the electronic parts helped to verify the problem. Thanks man!
Thanks for this video. I was able to diagnose the problem after watching. Easy fix. The belt had come off.
Yeah! Thank you. I think it'd fixed. Your video was clear and easy to follow....who knew the manual was inside the washer!
Thank you Ben! This video helped me fix my machine for a lot less than I thought it would cost!
I like them too, but I also love the fact people really dislike them too.
Holy cow….washers are wayyyy more complicated than what I thought 😳😮 Great video! Thank u for making this video 👍🏻
Thank you for a very well done video. Wife wants to buy a new washer, I say fix the one we have. You saved me 500 bucks!
Yeah, if you can fix it, fix it. These SHOULD last 10 years before a critical failure. Most parts to fix them are.... $50 tops. Most are $20-35, though. We fix a LOT of these and outside of a bad transmission, the codes make fixes easy.
@@bensappliancesandjunk I'm not like a tree hugger or anything but, I'm the type of person that will squeeze every bit of life out of something before I consider throwing it out. Our society has grown into a "Throwaway" generation. I have nine servers in my house in a rack. I built all of them with hand me down and throwaway parts. Been working for 8 years now with no problems. Electronics in landfills is more serious than just "Stuff". It's arsenic, cadmium, lead, etc. That stuff gets into groundwater so, I do whatever I can to keep stuff running without resorting to buying new. People like you have made it easier for me to learn how to fix more things and, I appreciate it!
Just fixed my washer following this video, thank you!
Very good video to learn very imp things.
i just recalibrated my Maytag thank you thank you thank you!!!! awesome information !!! it works!
great video! Helped get us up and running on a holiday weekend! It was the accuator.
Unless it’s a Nickelback CD! Unexpected and hilarious! 😂That had me rollin
Thank you SO MUCH for your detailed explanations. You are most helpful!! I seriously needed to ligthen up thinking about taking washer apart first time in my life- ever - and your comment about the Nickleback CD had me BURST OUT LAUGHING!!!! was much needed!!! You are awesome - Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
Thank you! Your video covers the code and.. the RESET / RECALIBRATION! I needed that after spin actuator replacement.
Excellent video! Hats off to you. Two bad shift actuators in two years.
Kick ass video bud. Shout out from Parma ohio. Saved me a bunch of money. I refurbish home's in our area. Next time I need appliances I'll will visit your store. Great attention to detail in all your videos. Please 🙏 keep them coming!
Cool deal! We are adding more Whirlpool/Maytag parts soon!
I just wanted to say I was very happy with your video very pro,. very good English and very understanding all . I don't have your machine but I like to think I would learn something. I did . Thank you
OMG, I've watched dozens of videos to try to find this issue and it was that LITTLE bit of info at 5:00 that was the doozy, my wash plate moves separately and that's what's causing my F7 E1 error... now I gotta watch the rest of the vid and the one to fix it, thanks a ton!!
Glad it helped! Its caught us once or twice, and now we almost always look for it before even turning the washer on. The Whirlpool washlates are SUPER CHEAPLY MADE and do this more often than ever.
@@bensappliancesandjunk I actually watched another video where the guy replaced the wash plate because it was making a lot of noise and then in his "after shot" he spun the wash plate around and the basket lagged behind it and said "look, see no noise" hahaha, glad you're doing this help, it's helped me and my son along the way with our own flip business... I just saw your 60 sec vid on 13k in a month.... what did you net on that after expenses if you don't mind me asking?
@@therealrollaz net is difficult because the big issue is overhead: Are you doing it out of a cheap building, expensive building, ect. Net was probably around $5k after employee expenses too. I run a lot of business stuff, so if I was doing it solo, I could increase margins considerably.... doing this kind of job should net you $5-8k/mo solo if you're putting in 40hrs/wk or so.
@@bensappliancesandjunk what size town do you live in, we're in a small rural area, and ofc, if we were in a bigger city things would be much better but I was just wondering about the size population you've got for the 13k? thanks again!
@@therealrollaz I live in a town of 10,000 people and the county has 55,000 people. We can't keep up with demand, not even close.
Nice and thorough video. Machine is back in service.
Thank you so much,
Turned out loose spluch nut causes belt to slip, not completely on which wouldn't allow the washer to spin. Tightened spluch nut and perfect spin! Saved me a $250 service call. Maytag Bravos X MVWX700xw2 Thanks!
Nickleback CD! Priceless! Love it and thanks for the help.
My friend.
You sir are awesome.
Fixed my washer before I even finished this video. Luckily I had an old model in the garage with the same shift actuator that I stubbornly wouldn't throw out. Subbed for sure my guy.
Fellow buckeye here by the way.
"OH"
Amazing video! Thank you so much for taking the time to fully explain and show everything!
Nobody noticed the Nickleback CD joke at 6:45???? Incredible.
This video is so well done. Concise, and easy to follow.
Thank you so much for this very informative video! Ima new mechanic RUclips certified lmao but no seriously I learned how to fix my 2007 mini cooper mostly all through a1auto and other creaters thank you so much!!!!
Thanks. Your video enabled me to fix my washer.
The video was easy to follow and extremely helpful. Thanks to you, I have determined the capacitor is bad and ordered a new one. This is saving me somewhere between $100 and $125 dollars.
Great video! I like your voice and your professional knowledge!
This video helped a lot! Looked at and tested everything, figured out the part I need and ordered it from your store. Thank you so much!
Glad it helped! I appreciate your support!
Many thanks. This helped me quickly diagnose my hub issue
could this same troubleshooting process work for a failing marriage?
You might need a completely new model?!
Lol 😆
Daithi: That would really be great! Worth a try!
@@oxygon2850 lol
😂😂
Thanks for the recall. hint. This is the first advanced tech. washer I've worked on. Oh, and the APP part #. Thank you.
Dude. This video is so well done. Great job and great info.
Outstanding video! very well explained. I subscribed!!!
Thank you very much for showing how to test these components
Me and my family thank u for your knowledge great and understandable video keep up the good work.👍 U saved me $$$ thanks.
Thanks , easier to follow . Also right into my problem..
Just ran through everything, pulled shift actuator, had a mouse nest get in the way of the speed sensor, would do normal wash but when it tried to go high speed it would fault. Just something else to add to your list of things that could happen. Thanks for the vid!
Ironically had a squrrel put a ton of nuts in one before!
I just save hundreds of dollars by fixing my shift actuator from using this video. If videos such as this existed for every thing that breaks in my life then my life will be so much easier. Thanks dude
Nice!
Thanks Ben, I will appreciate any information and help. Thanks a lot
You are amazing!!! Great Video!!!!! Thanks for saving me tons of money!!!!
This is the best video I've seen!
Great video brother 👊🏾

INCREDIBLE VIDEO! (All caps on purpose).
We’ll done. But most of all, thank you! Be well, friend!
Awesome repair instructions 👍👍👍👍
Very informative videos - I launched a friend's copy of the disk you mentioned into the basket during the spin cycle to test & it's currently unreadable..the noise from his CD player has also stopped - Thank You
You're video helped us fix our washer. Thank you!
You are a righteous man.
I'm trying!
@@bensappliancesandjunk I'm a 51yr old female that I have no choice but to try to fix my washer Well My. Washer is broken I purchased another set for 300 from Facebook and I be dang I bought a broken set so I have to repair the roper or Maytag I need help on which one to repair .
