    Awesome video!!! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing!! My B&S had a sump gasket leak, this was a great step-by-step! In reassembly, the pan wouldn’t drop into place-You pointing out that the governor needed to be set just right was what I was missing, I don’t think I’d have caught that without your video!!! Cheers!!!!

    The key is made into the blade adapter.

    The part that you said "just pulls right off" and that "it should have a key in it" is the part where the blade connects to. How do we remove that part if it's stuck tight in there? can we use a hammer? What do you recommend? Thank for your help.

    • @JOATD
      @JOATD  22 дня назад

      @GabrielEmerald777 it would be best to use like a rubber mallet. Make sure you spray it with some penetrating oil like WD-40 or blaster it'll eat away some of the rust so it's easier to come off if you're going to use a metal Hammer I would use a small block of wood. To hit the wood not the middle. You don't want to bend it.

      @@JOATD Thank you sir. A different question regarding the flywheel. Does the flywheel on a briggs and startton push mower SPIN clock wise or counter clockwise when looking at the flywheel from the top? Forgive the dumb question but I'm a noob when it comes to these things...

    • @JOATD
      @JOATD  22 дня назад +1

      @@GabrielEmerald777 okay this question is kind of difficult to answer. When looking down at the deck of the lawn mower, from above the flywheel turns the exact same way as the mower blade. Most mower blades turn clockwise looking down at the deck. If you're looking underneath the deck it will turn counterclockwise. To know which way your flywheel turns all you have to do is slowly pull the string to see which way the flywheel is turning but normally it is clockwise looking down at the deck

      @@JOATD Thanks. Before I asked you the previous question, I tried slightly wacking the sides of adapter outward to try and make it come out. When that wasn't working I tried wacking the adapter in the opposite direction toward the crankcase, and then wacking it in the outward direction again but it didn't budge. One thing I noticed is that the shaft moved upwards a little bit when I was wacking the adapter in that direction. Now I'm afarid I might have damaged the seal on the top of the crankshaft? I'm not sure though. Is that a possibility? Thanks for your help.

    Thank you for posting this. What's the torque for the bolts on the motor case and the blade guard?

    • @JOATD
      @JOATD  Год назад

      If you look at page 7 number 7 in the owner's manual it tells you the torque for the blade. The owner's manual link is in my descriptions. 450 in lbs minimum, 600 in lbs maximum. Crankcase 7.5 foot pounds

    When i tried to pull of the bottom plate like you did about 5.15 into the video , it didn't want to lift at all , i managed to prize it up about a quarter of an inch , that's it it won't move any more , i tried wooden wedges all round and nothing, so tried a little with cold chisels gently, and still nothing, it just will not lift , i didn't want to go to mad with the cold chisels because it might crack the case. so any ideas ?.

    • @JOATD
      @JOATD  Год назад

      Did you pry all the way around the case like just keep going around the case until it lifts all the way up. I'm pretty sure it's just stuck on.

    • @JOATD
      @JOATD  Год назад

      Put some penetrating oil on the shaft right where the plate in the shaft meets. It just needs a little lubrication in there

    I have the same mower. the cover doesn't come off the same though..
    As soon as you get the cover off about 3 inches, it locks-in-place. BS 550E Bought in 2018. not sure what the difference is..
    I was wondering if you have any suggestions😟😟

      I apologize for the late answer but I just noticed that this was in my comments never sent a notification. You will probably have to look to see if it has a retaining clip a e clip or a c-clip holding the case to the shaft

      He said right in video, the governor; aka the oil kicker.
      The video is how to stop HIS oil leak, the shaft seal wasn't his problem, the sump seal was.

    Hi nice video today I changed the gasket on B&S I found your video after I did the replacement.I did all the steps ass you did but when I tried to pull the cable to start the mower it pulls me right back really hard!
    I wonder if you know why would be doing that

    • @JOATD
      @JOATD  2 года назад

      Sounds like the pull string recoil anchors are staying out instead of retracting Once you pull the string. I will take the cover off again and spray WD-40 in the area where the pull string is only the back side. Sometimes that happens when you have a lawn mower that sits outside it gets a little rust on it.

      The timing could be off. Check within the gears to see if they align. There's usually an arrow or dot where the gears align.
