You did not do this to yourself. Alcohol did this. You drank something that you became addicted to, which hijacked your brain, rewired your brain, altered your brain chemistry and took over your life to the point you no longer had a choice. Alcohol did this. I am so sorry you are having a hard time, I wish I could come give you a big hug. You can do hard things.

My daughter is in the same boat. She has made it through two comas, 2 hemorrhages, septic pnemonia, county jail & prison. She will never be recommended for a liver transplant. Our family can't bring her home because of her disruptive behavior. My biggest fear is she will die on the streets & no one will know that she has a family that will claim her. I will post an honest obit about her issue when she passes & thank the doctors who continued to treat her. My heart breaks for this child who at one time had the world by the tail & lost EVERYTHING to her addictions. If you can't love yourself enough to quit, quit for the others that love you.

You know, everyone talk about the liver, the cirrhosis of the liver, the pancreas with pancreatitis rarely did I hear anyone talk about peripheral neuropathy which is what I have now. Because of alcohol I can barely walk and I used to go to the gym all the time and i ate right but drank one To 2 bottles of red wine for a few years every day. Cant walk straight ,legs folding under me
I am toast! It’s so hard to stop alcohol I mean for me red wine. I’ve never like liquor. Praying for everyone.

Quit cigarettes after 12 years of smoking. Could've quit sooner but I liked it.

      I drank moderately, got drunk

I have been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis myself, back in January 2023. I can sense the fear you describe, the thought that I may leave my loved ones behind due to my own actions. Yet, I strive to remain positive, finding joy in my wife and child. I am afraid of liver failure or other consequences that may arise from it, but since January 2023, I replaced drinking with creating music on RUclips. We cannot turn back time, and despite our fears, we must continue to cherish what we still have. We must live with the choices we have made; let us now make the right ones. What you are doing here reaches many, offering hope to those for whom it may not be too late. And for those for whom it is, you provide a comforting reminder that we are not alone in this struggle, alongside our loved ones. I wish you and your family much wisdom and strength from the Netherlands.

This is a common story about the plight of an alcoholics regret. My Dad passed in 2017 of liver failure at 71 as a result of years of heavy drinking. He spent his last days begging his friends and loved ones to please quit drinking now so you don't go through this. Needless to say none of them have changed their drinking habits. I am watching a dear friend drink himself to death.

Surgery was scheduled in 5 hours. Liver was being flown in from out of state. It's been 2 years now. Please know that there is hope for you. and please try not to be so hard on yourself . We all have different things to learn in this life & I'm sorry to see you suffer. You're already suffering enough, please don't hate yourself for the past! We all leave this shell behind eventually, some sooner, some later. God will know you tried whenever that time arrives. Acceptance is the answer to a great many of our problems. Hang in there brother I got sick when I was 36 now I'm 46 I was a bad alcoholic. Been sober 10 years. I did not think I would still be here. And you are right. You feel good for a little while, but you will pay for it. The rest of your life. Those of you trying to quit If you can't drink in moderation, you better give it up. I will keep you in my prayers, man.

2 months sober here. I just had high liver enzymes (AST I believe) with a number of 75 at last blood test. Definitely drank excessively through my 20's to early 30's coupled with bad diet. The past 3 years have been drinking maybe 2-3 days a week. Two drinks max. I had an ultrasound done as well and have been diagnosed with fatty liver. No other issues other than that. No pain or inflammation in/around stomache.
My plan is to stay sober for a year and then limit drinking to once a month. It's good to know that I don't have a dependency on alcohol but I do miss it and n social settings. I needed this break, mentally and obviously physically.

Good luck and best wishes. I stopped drinking thirty years ago thank to an older drinking friend who drank into the depths of despair (homeless, arrested dozens of times…and this a man with a good degree and an excellent background). He showed me the need to stop and how to do it. He is dead and I am 70 but I bless him most days. We would have enjoyed your company back in the day, and I can enjoy it now despite distance, thanks to the internet and your decision to tell your story. I have helped people who made it and loved people who did not make it. If I cannot help you, I can love you, and I do.To others reading who are thinking of stopping drinking, I can vouch for your story as being quite common. I have met lovely men who died in their twenties, thirties and forties of the effects of drinking and I salute them. Liver disease and pancreatic cancer and Korsakoff’s syndrome aren’t mentioned on booze bottle labels but each of them is common, tragic and painful.

That sounds hard to deal with, but man, the stress of everything will off you before the disease will your heart can handle only so much. Depression and hypertension can lead to a heart attack. My wife of 24 years died of liver cirroses recently, she was 62. There were signs she wasn't healthy a year before she passed. She couldn't walk down an aisle in a grocery store without having to go back to the car, she started not taking care of herself, no shower etc., then came the point where she wouldn't get out of bed, then she needed help going to the restroom and it got progressively worse the final 3 months, hallucinations, no eating, blood when she used the restroom. It was bad. So I have to say you look pretty good, hope everything works out for 😊

Came across your video by chance. I, like so many others here, will keep you in my prayers....that God will give you some peace and comfort and reduce your understandable fear. Please don't beat yourself up about how you got into this situation, it's part of just being human. Think of all the people you are helping and inspiring and causing to really consider sobriety. You have made it this far for a reason. You are here for a reason. Your sharing your experience, wisdom, regrets and fears is powerful and helping so many people. Just remember, and I say this as a retired RN of almost 30 years.....the human body is an amazing thing and people greatly surpass what seems like a hopeless prognosis each and every day. God is the ultimate physician. He loves you more than you know, He is there with you, always by your side, He knows your fears and regrets, you are His precious child and He will not ever forsake you. I pray He will wrap his loving arms around you right this moment and you feel His love and peace. You are a survivor!

Hey LD I think I grew up pretty close to you. Currently in Spartanburg SC. I’ve had a history of alcoholism. Hit it very hard for 6 yrs age 21-27 then was sober for 13 years. After the pandemic I drank again and been going pretty hard off and on since 2021. I sometimes feel a dull pain in my liver and I was hospitalized 3 times for withdrawal and Hyperammonemia (they gave me lactose it was as awful). I’m concerned if I don’t stop it could be very bad for me. I’ve been cutting back lately from 3 bottles of wine a day to now less than a bottle a day. I occasionally white nuckle it a day here and there with no alcohol. You’re inspiring me, I know what I need to do. I’m surprised medical college of GA doesn’t have better expertise for you. Charleston is a long way. I wish you well on your procedure. Godspeed man.

LD - the things you were saying about "reap what you sow", etc, yes it's true to an extent. But beyond that, there is "resurrection thinking". When a person commits their life to Jesus, they become a new creation. If God has a further plan for their life, He will make it possible for them to do His will. I believe that God still does miracles, and if you will seek Him on this, He will hear you and bring healing to your liver, pancreas, and life. There is a lot more to it, but the key is to believe that what God has promised in His Word, He will do, and to bring those promises back to Him when you pray. I will be praying for you as you go through this procedure, that you won't have severe pain or nausea. Yes, you brought it on yourself, but God has you in His hand. He doesn't want you to fear, but to trust Him.

But my friend, you are suffering enough and I can feel your genuine regret and sadness about your past, so please stop beating yourself up and try to give yourself a break. I know it's easier said than done, but please try. I say this with true compassion for you.

That is a little how I felt when I kept throwing up, I also had a day with anxiety and panic attacks which I hadn't had in years. It is better now, also I had a couple times when the paracentesis was painful towards the end of the procedure. I feel like it's nothing compared to you. So again I am holding you up in prayer and am believing for a good report for your results. I am so glad you are still here with us. I'm on day 22 sober, after a hard relapse!! I'm not feeling the best, but I'm happy to still be here! I have an apt next week to get my blood work done, and I'm pretty nervous!! Either way it goes, i am done drinking for the rest of my life!! I'm 32 almost 33. There is so much i want to do with my life. I just hope it's not too late. The only real issue I'm having are my eyes are always so sensitive! And bloodshot. And I'm not eating regularly, but I am eating. I'm hoping everything will get better in time. I recently lost my friend to liver failure. He was younger than me! That was a major eye opener to never drink again! I did dry January, and should have kept going. I did relapse hard for the Super Bowl, and I was sicker than I've ever been. I'm the type of person that once I decide something, i stick to it! So I am doing this sober thing on my own!! I know I can do it, I'm just scared if the damage that had been done..
