I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver 1/21/22 from alcoholism at 38. It was the hardest fight of my life for 10 months. I was only given 3 months to live. The disease took over my body and eventually only had weeks because it was so bad. On 10/17/22 I received a phone call from University of Michigan and they had a match for me. They saved my life and I've been sober since 1/21/22.

Some folks can survive it whilst others don't. My dad died of liver and colon cancer and drank once in a blue moon but was a chain smoker. My cousin lived with all kinds of cancers that started with breast in mid 30's . They'd cure her from one type of cancer then a year later it would show up somewhere else. She was told she was dieing but didn't let diagnosis bring her down. She was allowed to work from home so she could keep her insurance....she was beloved by everyone she met. She had 3 young kids she wanted to finish raising and she did. She past a few days after her youngest turned 18. Probably 10-12 years after being told she was dieing.

I’ve seen many examples of people reversing fatty liver and the occasional anecdote of reversing fibrosis on a purely red meat carnivore diet. Cases that were considered irreversible.
The data is still coming in as that diet gains popularity, but it looks like we may have to pump the brakes on the previous way of thinking regarding fatty red meat.
It may even be the missing answer for slowing cirrhosis.

Thanks for the videos man, It’s greatly appreciated. I can absolutely relate. My dad passed away when he was 36 years old from a genetic form of liver disease/cirrhosis and unfortunately I was diagnosed with it about a year and a half ago and next month I will be 36 and I am coming up on my 2 year mark.
I have been hospitalized multiple times for variceal bleeding, H.E. And a handful of other complications due to cirrhosis.
It’s a rough process that is for sure, it’s hard to plan anything because the symptoms can hit so fast and be so disorienting and crippling.. it makes every day a struggle and a complication.
It’s tough to plan to do anything with the family, makes it extremely difficult to work every day.. it makes it difficult to plan for tomorrow, which makes it impossible to plan for the future because ultimately we don’t know if we will even have one or if we will get liver transplant or what our health and quality of life will be.
    It’s a nightmare
I’ve sat here and lost track of what I’m writing or thinking..
I wish there were better answers and not just “you could live with this for the rest of your life.”
That must be in the book somewhere because those are the same exact words my doctor told me.
I hope the best for you and your family and everyone that is going through the same thing

my dad died recently from complications due to cirrhosis, he always loved a drink which might of been a contributing factor but he was also on medication to deal with arthritis and goutte which I was told effected his liver. he constantly had his liver scanned due to his medication and although fatty his liver was in good health apart from that (He ended up getting an infection in his liver). the scary part was how quickly it came on, one day he was fine the next he became sleepy and suffered from delirium and wasn't himself. stay strong whoever has this. I don't write this to scare anyone but because his tale needs to be told and everything I do I will donate money to liver charities to support those who do
    love you Dad

This was such a great video! I was diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis on October 2nd 2021 at 39yrs old. I had bad acites, jaundice, and I have varices. I have been hospitalised twice with HE. I haven’t had a drop of alcohol since the day I was diagnosed. My MELD score at the beginning was 21, it is now at 6. My cirrhosis was similar to yours, already predisposed to liver complications (developed in my pregnancies 18yrs ago) and a stage where I was drinking quite heavily for a few years due to some tough situations I didn’t deal with properly.

Thank you for this. You sound so calm and relaxed. Chronic Pancreatitis here and it's not fun. I'm trying my hardest to be positive even though knowing the end is near. I've had at least 10 doctors who see me first every time I go to the hospital. The ER staff at my hospital all know who I am already, which is sad. I wake up in chronic pain daily because my leg muscles are torn, my back is in constant pain all the time except for when I get an abdominal tap and I don't drink anymore or eat anything fatty or fried. I take around 24 pills a day prescribed to me by my doctors. It hurts to get up, it hurts to lay down, it hurts to even get on my computer and to top it all off, I also have ascites which is the worst. The abdominal taps royally suck, and I'm not looking forward to doing them weekly. I'm 46 and was diagnosed a month ago. How do you stay so calm and collected during all this? I'd really like to know. My doctors won't tell me the bad news so I have to learn for myself. They're not very good at telling me the truth. Stay well buddy and thanks again for the video.😎😎

Find one thing to focus on and put your energy there. Every case is different. When I was at my worst they figured 3 months. That was almost 2 years ago. So that maybe why they don’t talk that way to you. Because anything is possible. One day the fluids stopped building up. I don’t know how long it’s been since stopping alcohol but it took 6 months before I noticed a difference. Keep fighting and find something to hope for. I wish you the best

thanks for your video. it sounds like you have decompensated cirrhosis. For those out there that still have compensated cirrhosis, I would like to give them a word of encouragement. I was diagnosed back in 2019 a couple of months before the shutdown. They told me I was on the borderline between compensated and decompensated. And said I had about 3 years to live. I made both habit and lifestyle changes. No drinking (which I don't believe was the primary cause, but was a contributing factor), diet restructuring (on going), supplements and exercise. I also gave up driving. And bike as much as possible, on a good day I can get 10 miles. But other days I can't even get out of bed. I have been hospitalized four times for esophageal varices ruptures. which is actually how they found out about my condition. I still work but take about twice as many days off as I get in sick days. I normally don't speak about this topic but to close friends, so I would like to commend you on your willingness to put yourself out there. Also enjoyed the answer to the question how long do I have? It brought a little respite to an otherwise sobering topic. Keep your head up my friend, ...

@@mike_au with cirrhosis of the liver, each person is different. I see a dietitian and a liver specialist a couple times a year. They are always adjusting their recommendations. But the general advice is try to eat as natural as possible. Grass fed beef, wild caught fish, free range eggs. For fats; real butter, and MCT's oils. No vegetable or canola oils. Low carb and starches. I don't eat keto or gluten free bread. Substitute rice for riced cauliflower. No potatoes, soft drinks, etc. I drink at least 32 oz of sports drink a day. Body armor lite, is the one I like. There is a guy on RUclips named Dr. Breg, he talks a lot about fatty liver disease but he does have some videos on cirrhosis. Between him and my dietitian I have learned a lot. I also will have days that I don't follow a strict diet, or other recommendations. It's a lot of try this and then try that. Hope this helps.

And try not to think about not seeing your child grow up, because you just might. Every body is different. Some people have years. Or maybe 20 years. Going on 10 years of extra life given to me from a liver transplant in oct 2014. I had varices diagnosed 3 prior to transplant. My dr put me on beta blockers to keep them from growing. They didnt want to band because i was a hemophiliac and they were afraid of bleeding. At time of my transplant when they opened me up they found the beta blockers made the varices totally disappear. All this started from a bad blood transfusion for my hemophilia that gave me hep c which eventually destroyed my liver. Fun fact. The new liver got rid of my hemophilia as it contains the factor 8 clotting factor my birth liver did not have. So i got to live and am no longer a hemophiliac. Grateful to be alive. Best of luck to you brother.

I used to be a super heavy drinker, then got sober for 2 years. Had an ultrasound some months back, and my liver was in very good shape. Not fatty, not enlarged, no scarring. It surprised me at first, I was drinking like a madman before finally getting sober. The way it was explained to me, is that the liver will heal from just about anything- as long as you don't go over a certain threshold of damage, which is different for everyone and impossible to predict. That's why some people can drink a bottle of vodka daily for 30 years and never get cirrhosis, and why someone who only drank a couple beers 3 or 4 times a week gets cirrhosis at 35. It's unfair, but there it is.

However he was given the news by his dr that he had inherited a gene from his dad’s side where the liver wouldn’t repair themselves properly. His liver was done. He needed a transplant or certain and imminent death. This was I think April 2014. I watched him quickly pass away in the early morning 4th of July of the same year. Both his brothers were tested and one of the younger ones had the same gene. He was a bartender who also drank more than healthy. He also passed away. What was most sad about the younger brother is he knew he had it, and continued to drink. Alcohol is the most toxic and life ruining drug there is. My friend was 31

My itching stopped when I cut down on sugar. Initially I thought it was pre diabetes but I realise, since scans on my liver, the itching was related to the liver disease.

My family member was doing okay….got a UTI…went septic…gone. Other infections is what you need to worry about because your liver can’t process the meds needed to save you.

Just happened to find you. I was diagnosed with NASH fibrosis stage 3 in 2016. My MELD score is 6 and no varices that are needed to be rubberbanded with medications and no ascites but high levels of Ammonia thst I just got paperwork back from. My psychiatrist decided to have my ammonia tested due to confusion and hallucinations. I have several psychiatric diagnoses as well which could actually be my symptoms of confusion/hallucinations as well as Ammonia levels. I am not sure what is going on. I have a million doctors that I see for various conditions. I am a complicated case they say. I have severe neuropathy but no diabetes, I need to knee replacements, etc. Help, doctors say I am sick but am I? I have lost 55 lbs. In the last 2 years. So, that is a positive thing!

There are many things that can cause liver damage, ask about lactose that is a thick syrup that is a laxative but it collects ammonia in your body and flushes it out. And Xfaxon it’s a strong antibiotic that protects the brain. Also have you considered maybe a connective tissue disorder? For me they are testing me for EDS it’s hyper mobility disorder, basically if you were double jointed when you were younger, stretchy skin and there’s a lot of other signs. If that sounds familiar google that. It can effect everything organs and all. But what ever it is hang in there.

Someone very close to me has decompensated cirrhosis and has gallbladder issues but they are not willing to take the gallbladder out right now due to the dangers of the surgery. Which causes so much pain. And the insurance she has only gives her 1 option of a group of doctors for liver transplantation. The medical care is unrealistic!!! So sad!!!!! And HE IS SUPER SCARY!

I'm worried about my dad. He has been a drinker all of my life. The topic of him quitting has come up with family, but I'm pretty certain he would have to be medically detoxed, as he is physically dependent at this point, and up until now he has said he has no interest in doing so. I know he has tried on his own to cut back some, but I'm not sure it's with enough success. About four years ago, I was visiting, and his wife mentioned that he told her the doc said his liver was hardening, but he refused to say or discuss anything further. This last Christmas, and recently in photos, I've noticed his belly looking quite a lot larger, but the rest of his body is looking thinner. I'm really hoping that this is just a normal aging thing, but I'm worried that it's ascites, he has always been a very fit guy. I know I probably won't find any answers here, I'm just so worried, and sad, and I don't know what to do. I hope he is not in too bad of a condition, and will still be able to turn things around, but it's so hard to know since he is avoiding talking about it, and there's really nothing any of us can do. I feel like I have to guess where he is at with all of this, I'm just scared and I don't want my dad to suffer, and I don't want to lose him he is only 55 as of now and I just want to have as much time as possible with him, and for him to enjoy his life and feel happy and well.

Cirosis due to Hepatitis C left undetected many years, just had my gallbladder removed and they discovered my liver is real upset and is wanting to bow out. Not sure if it's cancer yet, this week I'll know. Not gonna lie, I'm slightly stressed.

I quit 2 summers ago. Went from 1 wine box + a week and a 6 pack. Now nothing. Do I miss it yes, but I'd rather have my wife at home, not separated, and my daughter being able to rely on me to drive her and her friends around 24 7. Than sitting alone buzzed.
As well as my liver of course

@@tamaradungan8016 Yep. I've since done an 11 day dry fast. It needs to be done under medical supervision and there are still risks involved however prolonged dry fasting is pretty much the only thing close to a cure that we have for diseases involving scar tissue like COPD, liver disease, etc. Even then there's no guarantees, it all depends on how severe your liver damage is and how far along it is.

    • @OccidentalAryan
      @OccidentalAryan 10 месяцев назад +1

@@jackking2461 That's what the pharmaceutical companies want you to think. SOME of it can be reversed if caught early. People with advanced liver disease won't be able to be helped that much by it.
