TThough I agree you shouldn't feel ashamed, you may notice a lack of sympathy or compassion from many people. Unlike conditions like cancer, which elicit concern and well-wishes, cirrhosis of the liver or liver failure, often associated with alcoholism or excessive drinking, does not typically receive the same response. I drink heavily for 30 years. but it was during the last 10 - 15 when I was drinking almost a handle of vodka every two days. Towards the end, I was never sober, except when I was passed out. It's not so much that I regret the drinking, but I do wish I had gone to a doctor sooner and had an ultrasound. I think if I had known where I was headed, I wouldn't have gone down that road.

That’s true, I had no idea my liver was failing. Until it was too late

@@Redneckkenobi Some people think when you quit drinking, everything else falls into place. That hasn't been my experience at all. I chose to stop in the hospital because I didn't want to continue living that way, being in and out of hospitals, procedures, medications, all of it. But quitting is just the first step, and living with end stage liver disease is not easy.

And as someone that continues to fight as well. Don't ever give in. Never ever give up. I know I want to give up as well but I just can't. Even i continue to be an idiot and keep drinking. I know im a combat wounded veteran but I still cannot find any excuse for drinking even if i find a valid one. Same goes for death. I can't find any valid reason. point being that you have no excuse. I can't find one. You have no other option but to live . Military humor brother but you have no choice but to live my dear friend. Im still fighting but its not going well for me either. It hasn't been looking good.

Thank you for your videos Neil. I have not been officially diagnosed yet but I had an endoscopy that showed a stomach bleed. I also had an ultrasound that showed 3 liver lesions and a dilated bile duct. My lfts were all normal except for albumin 3.4 and ast was 19 and alt was 14. I have been having liver pain and lots of nausea. I know that you're not a doctor, but you seem very knowledgeable. I am having an mri but not until the end of October. I am pretty certain that they will tell me it's cirrhosis. Needless to say, I am very stressed about it.

I’m sorry to hear that, keep fighting and never give up. Try to find something that you can focus on that can bring you purpose and hope, maybe two different things. And there are many stages to the liver so even if it’s bad news, it doesn’t mean it’s over. I was given 90 days to live in August 2022, two years later I’m doing way better. This is not a one size fits all disease so keep hope 😊 and my thoughts and prayers are with you

Hey man, I saw your comment and wanted to let you know it might not be all bad. I’ve been a pretty heavy drinker for the better part of the last 15 years. Recently I went in for some testing, not related to my liver, for a hernia. This invoked a CT scan, ultrasound, and MRI. While my liver was not the focus of these tests, it was scanned and reviewed by the doctor. They said my liver is fine, I don’t even have fatty liver. I was relieved. All of my bloodwork, including liver enzymes was normal. The MRI and CT did pick up a lesion on my right kidney, but upon further review they said it was a simple cyst, nothing to worry about. They are actually pretty common in the general population. I don’t know your specifics, but I hope things are OK for you.
