Good for u I got a mk4 gti with local tuner lowlife tuning stage 2 would gap that thing
I work for ECS Tuning and Im seeing a lot of misinformation floating around in regards to the differences between the GLI and GTI. They are actually pretty extensive. And the difference in “low end” that you’re feeling in all likelihood can be attributed to the weight difference or other factors. The turbo on the GLI is actually SIGNIFICANTLY a smaller (smaller than a k03) than the GTI. This means that the GLI actually spools much quicker for better turbo response, efficiency and longevity low end), but it maxes out it’s boost output VERY quickly so it doesn’t have much potential and essentially “maxes out” in the beginning of the RPM range. In comparison the GTI turbo is larger and has quite a bit of turbo lag as it takes longer to reach full boost, but once it does it can hold MUCH higher boost and create quite a bit more HP and TQ. Also the GTI turbo is a twin-scroll turbo whereas the GLI is a small Honeywell. It also has an exhaust manifold that is integrated into the engine, hence why there is no aftermarket support for turbo upgrades for your GLI. The GTI engine also features Audi valve lift which is incredible technology. Unfortunately the GLI has strayed far off from the original plans for it being a “GTI with a trunk”. If’s still a fun little machine with great body lines (taking cues from VAG’s successful Audi lineup) it just unfortunately doesn’t has as much performance potential as there is not much aftermarket support for that engine. Hope this gives you a little insight!
As a GLI owner, I am quite disappointed
@@jbmop as a mk6 tdi owner, I would have prefered a GLI but I love my torque..I thought of just trading in the tdi for a gli
@clubpageqwe What about the 2019 GLI is it truly the same engine as the GTI? Same turbo, same valves etc?
Dana yes. Read the car views. The Mk7 Jetta is now built on the same MQB platform as the GTI.
@@GR8U9 same engine. Completely different turbos in the 2019 GLIs. Still way smaller then the GTIs. And the engines r the same but are tuned differently from factory. GTI>GLI IN EVERY WAY
I know that the GTI 6 speed manual versus GLI 6-speed manual have different gear ratios the GLI will have a better mid top end and the GTI will have a more aggressive lower end response due to the gearing.
MK7 GTI's have a bigger turbo (IS20) and I think the GLI still uses a Honeywell turbo, but I'm not sure if the TSI motor in the 2016 or newer GLI is the 3rd gen TSI or the 2nd gen found in the MK6 GTI.
Thats what my friend was saying. He believes that it has the honeywell
MK stands for MARK. not EMMKAY :)
Lol I have corrected myself since :p
I got my 1.8T 2015 tuned a week after getting it. 242hp over 180. Completely noticeable
Omg, your TheLenged27😳😳😳
Can tou give mor info? How much was it and what was the tuning?
I just finished up the 2 month follow up video for this car, check this out to see what we think of it now!
ruclips.net/video/QlwJpMFBJXc/видео.html
What kind of wheels is it on in the thumbnail? Looking to get a pair for mine!
How has the car held up after all this time?
Still runs great!
that intake noise :3
Did you notice any resolutions with the DSG shudder? Some GLi owners say theirs' doesn't shudder when taking off, or letting off of the brake pedal....while others (including myself) feel it.
Erik Alvarado I feel the shudder when the car is running at less than optimal temperature
^^^^
Not only the turbo, but the GTI has TFSI, where the Jetta does not. This also accounts into the power differences between the two cars.
Treizez34 mmmmm no the Golf R has the TFSI. GTI has the gen 1 TSI while the GLI has the non mqb gen 3 TSI
this is dope man, love it
Thanks bro!
Would you recommend this for a 2011 Jetta 2.5 cylinder?
Its not going to be as effective because that engine variant doesn't come with forced induction. Tuning your car to your specific needs will always help but in this case, if you are going to put a stage 1 tune on your 2.5 expecting the same results as the 2.0, don't
Dude.... I have that ECS spoiler for my car but when I took off the factory one I found out it was stuck on with urethane that doesn't come off the paint. Now I have to get my whole trunk repainted. How'd you get the factory one off?
Holy shit that sucks! And I dont have a clue. That was the tuners Jetta. He also had mk7 GTI wheels on it. Not sure how he did it though
Bradley Snay that was the Tuner's car. The Jetta 1.4T doesn't come with a lip spoiler.
Turbo is the same. Intake manifold is different. That's why hit has the low end. They smoothed it out to make the gli slightly smoother.
Ah gotcha, thanks man!
Not sure yet if you can do a direct swap from a gti but I think you would need to for a turbo upgrade. Also what body kit is on that? Looks nasty
Do you guys actually own the car before you do all the mods on it...make sense to me to own the car first
Yes we did
11ll11l1ll111l1 why does it matter?
nice vid. my 16 GLI is APR stage 1 and the difference is unbelievable. I'm mad i waited so long to do it. went from 214 stock WHP to 276 with 296 TQ
The gains are crazy! Glad you're enjoying it as much as we are! (if not more:p)
Andrew Stevenson wait you went to 276 whp and 296 wtq?
yup. not sure what type of dyno. my speed shop gave me the sheets though
@@Skitzo1996🙄😒
I have the same car but apr's website is confusing . Question ; when you want a full stage 1 tune up , what all do you need to buy?
pretty much just the software from APR. My friend here got here got his tune from a local APR tuner.
APR tune? And does it have the DSG tune also? I just got my GLI flashed and I don’t even hear my turbo
I didn’t have a DSG Tune at the time
Is that your bf
No😩
Damn why doesn’t anybody have a regular 1.8 TSI … I tryna find videos on gettin hp out of the 1.8
10k views i have never been harder for another man
It's too bad the MK6 GLI was neutered because the MK6 was the second best looking Jetta. MK4 being the best looking.
I need to dyno it 🤔
Dude just let me know when you're ready!
it's about time.
I don’t get it where can u get your car tuned?! Do u go to a certain shop and ask or like how do u get started and what do u even do
nice video!
Thanks bro!
What’s the rims on the Jetta in the thumbnail ?
Not sure, that was a long time ago
Aye bro love the car I’m about to get one of my own real soon, so is there anything differences between the regular Jetta tsi and this car right here
Quick question did any engine codes put up when ur diverter valve failed?
Should i trade my chevy ss for one need suggestions
@@TonySanchez its already done
@@TonySanchez ss was auto and i couldn't afford what they wanted for a manual at the time
Damn it boy!! I have to do this to my GLI asap, but I'm in the middle of a full exhaust upgrade for my R6.... decisions decisions
Damn thats a tough one... I was looking into getting a triumph 675r for a while. Love that bike!
Tony Sanchez just get it. It's a badass bike
I would but its either i get a badass bike or I replace the supra with another car... and im leaning a lot more towards replacing the supra. I need another car like that in my life asap
Em Kay 6🤔🙄
I had a Mr. Garrison phase
JB4 > APR S1
You right
Pfff
I have the 15 Passat 1.8 APR stage 1 very noticeable. Definitely had to get the GFB DV+.
Where did he buy the red decals on bottom ?
what are the black wheels shown in the thumbnail?
Who’s gli is that on the thumbnail photo???
If your last name is really Sanchez how come you didn't cut the springs and install tweeters under the hood? Fake video.
Mi tio is bringing them over in the silverreyado wye
hey guys i still own my 2006 mk5 2.5 jetta. I've noticed it's pretty fast with just stock, I've raced othe jettas, civics and Subarus and left them behind... anyone have an idea why? is that model faster than other jettas?
Not a clue. Them 2.5 engines are dope though. Straight pipe it and it will sound like a lambo
Interesting information about the powerband differences between the MK6 GTI vs GLI. Didn't know that. I wonder if it's the same for MK7 Gens?
Not sure.. The MK7 are fast af though! :p
So I take it the gov is eliminated as well?
Yes
@@TonySanchez 🙌
What wheels are those??? So nice
Putting all that money into a automatic
Welp time to get a tune (;
What’s the name of the rims
Well I'm going to need tons of help Modifyin my vw .where do we begin?
damn these niggas done u bogus fam LMAO no reply and shit thats just disrespectful
What are the wheels?
1.4T or 2.0T*
Can this be done to a 2014 Jetta se 1.8t
Yes
1.6 or 2.0
Does apr tunes void factory warranty
+Blueprints Tech yup :/
No they don't
He pumped it twice in 1st gear, I think he thought he had moved to second, would have been in third, not the best driver
So sad to see that like all of these videos are automatic transmissions.
Dsg is not automatic
you throw bigger injectors in?
Nope! Everything is stock here
Tony Sanchez what hp you pushing out of it now?
The engine probably makes around 260hp and probably around 240ish to the wheels
Tony Sanchez not bad. He eventually going to put in bigger injectors
Being it's a 2016, it's a Gen 3 TSI. Being that it's a Mk6 it's gonna be Gen 2, Mk7 is Gen 3. The Gen 3s actually have a bit smaller of a turbo, so it'll have a bit more punch down low. That's the theory atleast. I'm sure if I'm mistaken, someone will correct me haha
haha im not sure either! Shank (my friend in the video) was saying that that the gen 3 came with a honeywell turbo. Supposably its a bit bigger and I could kinda feel it a little more in the mid range
My 2016 GLI has the non mqb platform Ea888 Gen. Different turbo and engine components. I believe my turbo is a bit larger than the k03 but smaller than the is20 found in the mk7 gti
i have the 2016 gli and i get tire spin to arou d 50mph. its horrible. thats with no tune. only intake and straight pipe from cat back. i get wheel spin even with traction control on to about 40mph. tires on the car suck they come with
