- We traveled to the Eurotripper show in Fort Myers, FL at JetBlue Park where Charles and his AWD swapped Jetta GLI were on full display! We do a full walkaround of his GLI where he shows us everything he has modified on this car!

These should have come off the dealer floor with an AWD option. Its honestly one of the best looking sedan's VW has done.
I always tell myself that VW will never top the mk6 and the mk6.5 body style

@@sohcwillie it does because a bunch of people just want an Audi, and fwd A3 is going to be the cheapest Audi they can buy while still providing better margins for VW Audi Group than comparable VW branded vehicle

As a former GLI owner it’s true… even a basic stage 1 tune rendered first and second gear useless
Agree. I just have a neuspeed power module and grip is basically gone in 1st. I haven't done anything else (tune or mod) because I'm convinced that I'll just make it burn through tires faster. I'm just gonna get a golf r eventually.
sure off a launch it will spin but where it really shines is when your in 3d, so if your doing a roll race or something the gli is tough to beat@@s00p3rman

Cool yes, scary not even a little bit. would be equivalent to a golf r but weighs more. I would say fully built big turbo fwd would be scariest cause torque steer
@@kerbsy7838 big turbo fully built doesn’t equal golf r. Plus u do realize that this car doesn’t weigh more than a golf R and that it operates mostly in fwd mode but when it’s fully built , the awd would allow it to move
@@MK6CHRIS you didn’t account for all the added weight due to halidex drive shaft exc… and your right it makes less power than a gold r on a more planted wheel base due to its being longer then the golf so you saying it’s scary is halarious the added weight would also bring the hp numbers down and i was comparing big turbo golf r to big turbo jetta not a stock golf r
@@MK6CHRIS and halidex send power to rear when front slips so it really wouldn’t be the same in terms of you saying it “fwd” making it much more planted and stable over a fwd version
@@kerbsy7838 i see what you are trying to say but it is not accurate. A fully built awd Jetta will be scary. It will weigh approximately the same as the Golf R and have the same power potential. And yes , like I already said, the car operates in fwd most of the time so a fully built car will move move out because the rear end will help. You just said what I did in terms of the halidex just differently.
My last car was a Gen3 GLI and when he talks about stage 3 tuning being an issue he aint kidding. Car is more then a PITA to find parts for and the fact this guy AWD swapped this thing blows my mind. Amazing build
Haha, its fun when you figure it all out and it comes together, side note some tuning is coming around. Thankfully Reflect Tuning supports us, and there is soon going to an an option for open source tuning!
@@DevineDigital well thats good to hear. I sold my Gen3 a couple of months ago as it required extra fueling to get the tune from reflect but I am glad to see people are still working with the platform for you guys

I also have an mk6 4motion GLI built in Ukraine 😁 Haldex 5 is working just fine, but with haldex ecu unit from non mqb vehicles (tiguan).
transmission can be swapped from golf alltrack, though dsg software should be tuned because of slightly different ratio.
Hope big turbo will come up soon If the car won't be blown by russian missile 😱😁

The way this man has modded his GLI is exactly what I am aspiring to with my 2015 Beetle 1.8T.
I don't want something that's AWD or makes 500WHP, but I definitely want to give it a tune, other go-fast bits, and some suspension/brake work to make it a more fun daily driver... all while keeping the more OEM+ approach.
Chase your dreams! Build what you want, have fun doing it, thats what this is all about!

Use the Audi A3 parts . No more messing around , everything works driveshaft and subframe
I’m not a fan of the looks of the A3 interior or exterior. You are right it would have been easier, not nearly as fun though.

I’m completely confused as to why he didn’t. I feel like this guy just wanted to do the extra work.
This car first came out in 2011. It was ahead of his time beautiful car. Mine has 247000km chip 40hp more and still drives good. Little problems with clutch, mirror right side and dashboard make some ratle noise when it cold outside. But overal pulls, drives, brakes very good with my kw suspension and bbs Lemans Dunlop sports it Handels great 👍
Another 14’ GLI owner here. Always wanted to do this and dual exhaust. So happy to see someone go through with this. So cool man!

@@MaxiimTribe my goals are a little different. AWD may come in the near future but currently shipping a motor out to BBT for head work and assembly. Just got a new turbo for the built motor setup. Gonna build the trans when I get back from deployment and throw everything back together. Hoping to reset the Gen3 WR in my manual before going AWD.

Love this build have been following this build for quite some time. Charles is an amazing guy and loves to spread knowledge and take this platform to new heights. So, glad he finally got some screen time on this.
I sold a GLI that looked just like this one because no matter how much power you have, it will always be a FWD. Welp, I was wrong apparently. This car is amazing and I would seriously consider purchasing if it were ever for sale. I doubt the owner would ever part with it, but if you do...let me know! DIBS!
Until that day, my S5 will be fine lol.

i've thought about doing something similar to my 2015 Golf Sportwagen TDI and then youtube recommends me this.
Mines Stage 2 ultronic with vw racing intake, audi r8 coil packs, stage 2 clutch, esc tuning diverter valve relocation kit, esc tuning blow off kit, and a few more things making 322hp with more to go stock turbo! Their very capable cars its the 2wd holding it back for sure that and finding a tuner aswell

If you need anything let me know, it is very very hard to find the parts. Many places say they have it, then write you back and say they cannot get it due to it being a legacy part.

Its funny the rear AC situation kind of reminds me of the Crown vics. Only the Middle Eastern market vics got rear AC vents mounted to the center console. But fair enough, they need them more than most of us in the US lol.

I got one too. The 30th Edition. Apr stage 2 rn ,manual with a bunch of bolt ons. With that big turbo though, I’d look into adding new headers. Im on my way to where you are though. Awesome build!
The exhaust manifold is integrated into the block these motors don't use headers the turbo bolts right up to the block.

Wish more people with different cars did this. The Mazda 3 _(in Japan and other places)_ come with AWD, however the USA Verizon is *ONLY* FWD (not including the gen4)
It is said that the Mz3 AWD uses the same system as the cx3 + the CX5 - and it's wheel base is just about the same. If I had money, I'd do it to mine but I'm broke.
You can totally buy the current gen Mazda 3 in AWD form in the US... just can't get it in AWD and manual form as it doesn't exist. They look really cool and it's always fun to see them out in the wild.

Cut out the rear spair well? Where did you fit the haladex ? Please list a full parts list . As I have the same car and want to do this build.

I mean technically you can, euro models have a 4 motion option. just have to import the rear part of the chassis and trans/driveshaft tunnel and weld it up in place of the old one and get the rear subframe diffs, transmission etc
That’s basically what was done, but some of the parts weren’t able to be shipped due to length restrictions that require ridiculous shipping prices. At the end of the day I said if it works and is available here I’ll use it.
