Have the same setup on a 14’ GLI Autobahn. I love it. I would recommend having the dealer check your timing belt tensioners. Mine were bad and they have a recall. Made the engine sound “ticky”.
Danny Buscett it’s not about hp gains. If you have a turbo charged car and you are tuning it you want less restrictive flow to the turbo. An aftermarket cold air intake allows more flow than the very restrictive factory intake. There is no downside to a turbo that can breathe better.
couple of things.... Stage 1 is a tune, that's it. Stage 1+ is an Intake AND and Exhaust w/ downpipe (optional)... you don't get any power just putting on Intakes, where's that new flow of air going to go? The ECU adjusts and the stock diverter just throws off most of it. You need at least an Exhaust and a a Tune. For Stage 2... you'll need to work on the updating the manifold, by then you should have a better diverter if not already, upgraded suspension, and brakes if not already, some places sell DSG limited differentials (optional), catch can kit, upgraded intercooler since the horsepower is going to be higher, Stage 2 - DSG Clutch kit (optional, but reommended if you plan to go higher than 300hp ), digital temperature gauge. Stage 3... that is K04 upgrade territory, now you'll need things like brass billiets and reinforced camshafts, thermal wraps for the turbo and inlet pipes, carbon fiber body kits and extensions, by now you should have replaced all 'plastic' tubing in the exhausts and turbos with either aluminum or steel, muffler/resonator deletes ( some people do this right away when they get their car... but i don't think it's a good idea for small displacement engines with turbos that NEED the back pressure and propulsion, only bigger engines can do this right away ). Basically Stage 3 is meant for the track and and you can do as much to the car as engineering capability allows.
This is right to and extent. However, there is no stage three for the 1.8t Jetta. The 1.8t doesn’t have a dsg either. What you mentioned above is for the 2.0 which is called the GLI.
Not quite. Stage 1: Tune only Stage 1+: Tune, Intake. Stage 2 : Tune, Intake, downpipe. Stage 3: Tune, Intake, Downpipe, intercooler, K04 Turbo. An intercooler is not required for stage 1 or 2, but you'll notice some heat soak on hot days, so getting the intercooler helps. It's require for stage 3. Other things like suspension, brakes, body kits, and catback exhaust are independent of Stage 1,2,3 power levels.
Hey bro how it's going ?? I have the exact same car dude, I mean down to the color my Car is also bright red and it's a 2016 1.8 TSI Sport. I just have a question, since getting the APR tune have u had any mechanical issues due to the APR tune? I'm thinking of getting the same APR Stage 2 ECU Tune, actually i've made up my mind and i'm going to do it. I'm going with the APR Stage 2 Tune, APR downpipe and CAI, Thinking of getting a full exhaust though I havent decided what brand yet, Forge diverter valve, Neuspeed Hi Flo Turbo discharge conversion pipe and that will be it for now. After i'm done with that i'm thinking of upgrading the intercooler to so she breaths better. My main question was just how reliable has it been on that APR tune? Thanks a ton bro.
Hey! I have a 2016 Jetta 1.8T SEL. I have a stage 1 tune and a cold air intake. Nothing super crazy, just enough to wake it up. Engine wise, the tune is amazing. I get over 38 MPG cruising on the highway, and passing is a breeze. The one caution I will bring up is BE CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE THE AUTOMATIC. 1 month after my tune, I had to pay to have the valve body on my transmission done. 2,000$ in repairs. In low speeds and typical suburb or city driving, it’s incredibly indecisive and it will hesitate and jerk especially when it’s cold out and you first take off. You can baby the pedal all you want, but it will still happen. I’m approaching the 100k mile marker, and I’ve had the tune for 10k miles. The AISIN 09G unit in the Jetta is only rated max for 250 ft/lbs of torque. A minimum 87 stage 1 tune pushes it at 267 ft/lbs, so prepare for more servicing of the transmission to prevent excessive wear and tear. I have yet to find any catastrophic transmission failures in the forums besides the valve body developing issues if that helps. Overall you shouldn’t have many mechanical issues. Just keep on eye on your servicing, use a high quality transmission fluid that’s fully synthetic to prevent wear and you should be alright... in theory.
Dan Peters What do you have? I have a 14’ Jetta GLI Autobahn with the same setup as this guy. I would say, there are no issues but here’s my list: 1. Don’t do crazy ass hard pulls and redline the car. Yes it hauls tail but it’s really bad for your engine and transmission. The tune is great for when your already moving. IMO 2. Get upgraded engine braces. Hard pulls and quick shifts tend to make the engine saddle rock a bit. 3. Would recommend getting the APR transmission tune with this. With the added power, you want to be able to shift quicker. 4. It’s fun AF 👌🏻

You don’t “need” it but it’s highly recommended.

nollm23 Between the intake, downpipe, the labor, and the tune it cost around $1800
XxJoeM210xX could you tell what parts you put in specifically
What did you do with the small hose on the left side of the stock air intake? I think it’s a vacuum hose or something like that, not sure about it.
i have the same question
Put a little filter on it
what about the little breather behind the stock filter
It plugs into the pipe going back right behind the filter. It’s a recirculation tune, and you might get a light if it’s not routed.
It’s a secondary air filter that was needed for my model year Jetta
