Because we're so used to being among tons of people. It's like having all your family and friends come over to your place, and once they all leave it just feels weird.
Gmod is pretty relaxing, for me at least, the most scared and stressed I was in a source game is being forced to 1v1 someone in CS because you're the only one alive and you don't know where they are, the dread kicks in especially if you are playing a older CS game. I still hear the footsteps...
This video gave me chills. Every now and then I go back to play CS 1.6/ gmod single player as a tribute to the old days where I played with my friends who I don’t see anymore( due to.. life) and this is exactly how I feel when I go back to the maps we used to play, a heavy feeling mix of nostalgia, existential crisis and loneliness.
I just feel eyes watching me when i play these types of games even though Im alone, like minecraft is a sandbox game you can do anything you want but when you play survival.. *HE'S THERE WATCHING* ...
Happy to know I'm not the only one who gets that uneasy feeling when playing Gmod alone. That feeling like you're being watched. You know it's impossible, but you just can't shake the feeling that somehow, you're not alone.
I don't understand this. I played gmod for years, single player exclusively, and never had a hint of fear like that. I was just always focused on what I was doing.
Same. I first played Gmod back in 2008 so I come from a different era of the game completely. I think the fear factor is a new zoomer thing for kids who didn’t experience these games when they came out, or watch to many RUclips analysts imposing ideas on them.
this is literally me when I play Gmod alone, or any game alone that has no story and is a multiplayer game that you can just play alone in, I always make it look like I am like a lone soldier or character that's just exploring the map looking for civilization, terrified at thinking that I'm not alone and I am being watched by something, possibly a monster or a person or anything, and sometimes I always gear myself up, explore, search, roam and I always think to myself "I should get a vehicle or run to a place that's safe or find equipment and weapons and other supplies or just run and don't look back" and every time I do one of this things, I feel like I haven't done enough and there's still more to do, Still thinking that I am not safe, I am not properly geared, I am not ready to face what is coming for me, But I Turn around, I wait, I do every possible thing to hopefully face what ever is watching or following me, but nothing happens, I Turn around and no one is there, I wait and nothing comes, I explore and look around for it hoping it would then make it or them self known, but every time, nothing happens, And then I notice that all the things that I expected to happen, was just my own paranoia and figment of my imagination.
Since my friends don't have Gmod, I can relate to the feeling of being stalked by some entity in these maps. So I spawn a bunch of NPCs to be my frens, install a follower mod, and adventure into the dark rooms. I then set up a plan with them to conquer the entire map.
Damn, the atmosphere is randomly scary if I ever became a director I'm gonna make a movie about a guy that hates people and wishes to be alone the next day he wakes up in a place like this...
I used to be fearless exploring large cities and forest maps until I once loaded one of my maps and an obunga nextbot started chasing me from the woods. Still don't know how that happened yet
I still remember playing GMOD for the first time back in 2012 and still recall loading up the map from this video and instantly feeling uncomfortable by something, felt like I was being watched or something.
Man I have to say.. back when I was a teenager I always ended up exiting Gmod because of how frightening it was, that sensation of "loneliness" but also the feel of being watched by something or someone.. It was seriously horrifying, I felt much better when spawning enemies to fight against.
i don't know why but after 200 - 500 hours in the game on any map that is not meant to be creepy/horror even at night i don't seem to have that feeling anymore. Maybe because of mods...less mods probably make that feeling stronger
Honestly, minecraft Is not as creepy to me. I mean, maybe when I find something a bit eerie like a cross on the ground made from grass or sand blocks or something yeah that's a bit scary, but that's about It really..
Imagine You spawn a npc with a gun and no one else and you hear shooting and the sound of the death of an npc and at the top corner it says that something killed the npc.
Idk if I was losing it or something, but once I was using the portal gun mod with my friend running from a nextbot, and when I go to jump into this portal one time, some figure peeks over the edge of the portal, I nearly pissed myself and was shaking for 5 minutes, it was just so unexpected
There was something really weirdly comfortable being all alone on a huge map like this Brought back memories of playing with toys alone as a kid. Big City will always have the best kinda nostalgia for me for that reason 😊
Personally, I enjoy the loneliness and silence whilst exploring maps. It feels comfy, safe and nice, that may come by the fact that I'm extremely introvert and I like the lack of people around.
Trust me, even an introvert at somepoint would go insane without human interaction. If you were the last person on Earth and everything felt basically like you're In a Gmod sandbox but you didn't have any powers After a while you would completely lose It and you would most likely also get a creepy or eerie feeling, introverts are just more resistant to loneliness but like the rest of us, they are not unbreakable.
@@TheTrueDan I know, but we aren't alone, there is 8B people out there struggling with their thing, so as I... Of course if it was the only person ever left that would be kinda of creepy, in fact, the concept of introversion/extroversion kinda doesn't work here because it assumes there is more humans besides you. Naturally you will fear death because of the Unknown, there is nothing protecting you, you're just as scared of death as your primitive counterparts
@@TheTrueDan Yeah, I agree. Playing Gmod alone and fantasizing about being completely alone in an empty world sounds kinda nice, but when it's your actual life and you need to survive, it becomes a haunting experience.

guys we are not scared of being alone but we are scared that we dont know that something is watching us....
I can confirm as I played gmod I had a creepy feeling that I wasn’t alone and feel watched at the same time…
This video gave me chills. Every now and then I go back to play CS 1.6/ gmod single player as a tribute to the old days where I played with my friends who I don’t see anymore( due to.. life) and this is exactly how I feel when I go back to the maps we used to play, a heavy feeling mix of nostalgia, existential crisis and loneliness.
glad to see this resonates with people
yep, it does
Yes. It doed
I just feel eyes watching me when i play these types of games even though Im alone, like minecraft is a sandbox game you can do anything you want but when you play survival.. *HE'S THERE WATCHING* ...

Since my friends left me for no reason, that's how I feel when I play... I miss the good old time
I just downloaded Dmod and tried it for the first time and started here to try out the basics, and yes, this is it...
Happy to know I'm not the only one who gets that uneasy feeling when playing Gmod alone. That feeling like you're being watched.
You know it's impossible, but you just can't shake the feeling that somehow, you're not alone.
With the advent of AI, you will never be alone
Take that however you want
@@joecool9739 shiver me timbers🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🤣💀
Because you are being watched.
I get the same feeling when I play Minecraft alone
WHat if garry newman is wathcing us or a mingebag is spying
As a 100-hour single player, I agree
same im nearly 150
As a 2400 hour single player, big city fears me.
As said by the fpa booster made from ice, i can confirm i need a new pc😭😭😭😭😭
not for me, after you hit quadruple digits in both hours and addons it kind of stops
@@themilkman6969 it hasn't stopped for me,
I have 4000 hours on the game.
Were not the same
I don't understand this. I played gmod for years, single player exclusively, and never had a hint of fear like that. I was just always focused on what I was doing.
That's cuz you focus on other things, not exploring.
Same. I first played Gmod back in 2008 so I come from a different era of the game completely. I think the fear factor is a new zoomer thing for kids who didn’t experience these games when they came out, or watch to many RUclips analysts imposing ideas on them.
@@flouserschird No it's because we're used to the social multiplayer aspects of the game, nothing to do with what generation you were born in.
@@flouserschird agreed
@@flouserschird no, I don't think it's that at all.
does anyone else get strange vibes from gm big city?. I find it so empty and deserted but at the same time i find it oddly comforting? idk
This is captured so perfectly, it's too perfect
I hate how much I relate to this, getting paranoid and looking behind my back and all around when I'm not doing scenarios and shit.
this is literally me when I play Gmod alone, or any game alone that has no story and is a multiplayer game that you can just play alone in, I always make it look like I am like a lone soldier or character that's just exploring the map looking for civilization, terrified at thinking that I'm not alone and I am being watched by something, possibly a monster or a person or anything, and sometimes I always gear myself up, explore, search, roam and I always think to myself "I should get a vehicle or run to a place that's safe or find equipment and weapons and other supplies or just run and don't look back" and every time I do one of this things, I feel like I haven't done enough and there's still more to do, Still thinking that I am not safe, I am not properly geared, I am not ready to face what is coming for me, But I Turn around, I wait, I do every possible thing to hopefully face what ever is watching or following me, but nothing happens, I Turn around and no one is there, I wait and nothing comes, I explore and look around for it hoping it would then make it or them self known, but every time, nothing happens, And then I notice that all the things that I expected to happen, was just my own paranoia and figment of my imagination.
I can relate to that
i do this but i essentially just roleplay as v1 ultrakill looking for more blood on earth after having obliterated all of hell
Since my friends don't have Gmod, I can relate to the feeling of being stalked by some entity in these maps. So I spawn a bunch of NPCs to be my frens, install a follower mod, and adventure into the dark rooms. I then set up a plan with them to conquer the entire map.
this is why i spawn a whole bunch of TWD npcs to follow me
bruh fr i feel like someone watching me and the ambience and the secret jumpscares in big city
Damn, the atmosphere is randomly scary
if I ever became a director I'm gonna make a movie about a guy that hates people and wishes to be alone the next day he wakes up in a place like this...
Sounds like a really interesting idea for a movie. I like it.
Yeah, as the guy above me said that's a pretty cool sounding idea, i'd like to see a movie director actually doing this.
reminds me of home alone
@@the1fortnitekid I was actually thinking the same thing
Reminds me of the Twilight Zone

I still remember playing GMOD for the first time back in 2012 and still recall loading up the map from this video and instantly feeling uncomfortable by something, felt like I was being watched or something.
Reminds me of I am Legend. It is good to chill in your own empty lobby before joining some rp ones
I don't know why, but these sounds are satisfying & calm to me
I even sleep with hl2 ambience, lol
Man I have to say.. back when I was a teenager I always ended up exiting Gmod because of how frightening it was, that sensation of "loneliness" but also the feel of being watched by something or someone..
It was seriously horrifying, I felt much better when spawning enemies to fight against.
I stopped feeling something watching me after 1000 hours or so. Bro must have shitted himself
Bruh the nostalgia,i used to download a parkour mode and play on this map for hours .created different scenarios and shit
I love exploring dead maps so much
i don't know why but after 200 - 500 hours in the game on any map that is not meant to be creepy/horror even at night i don't seem to have that feeling anymore. Maybe because of mods...less mods probably make that feeling stronger
İts feels someone is following you but you cant do anything
reminds me of zombie apocalypse movies. i cant wait until a real apocalypse goes down. its gonna be so cool to be alone in an abandoned city
if you want to explore an abandoned city just find one, thats a much less chaotic way
true also bc some weird stuff always happens on gmod map even when you didn't spawn anything
Nah
Nice relaxing maps if you ask me. I don’t really see what makes it scary
It's relatable to Minecraft singleplayer.
It truly is...
in minecraft there's at least npcs
Honestly, minecraft Is not as creepy to me. I mean, maybe when I find something a bit eerie like a cross on the ground made from grass or sand blocks or something yeah that's a bit scary, but that's about It really..
Today, not that much
But in the alpha days...
500+ hours of gmod, i played around 460 hours of it all alone, and yes, i am a psychopath
Imagine You spawn a npc with a gun and no one else and you hear shooting and the sound of the death of an npc and at the top corner it says that something killed the npc.
Who or “what” killed it?
I like to spawn a big tank and ride around in it, just in case
this "oooo oooo oooo" siren will always stay in my head
Idk if I was losing it or something, but once I was using the portal gun mod with my friend running from a nextbot, and when I go to jump into this portal one time, some figure peeks over the edge of the portal, I nearly pissed myself and was shaking for 5 minutes, it was just so unexpected
There was something really weirdly comfortable being all alone on a huge map like this
Brought back memories of playing with toys alone as a kid.
Big City will always have the best kinda nostalgia for me for that reason 😊
Gmod was the original Backrooms. these vast maps devoid of everything with an ere silence.
The bonelab gmod maps be hitting different when playing alone
Good lord 0:16 scared the hell out of me. Very accurate video though lol.
All quiet on the Garrys mod front.
You guys want some fun in single player? Get a destructible map, spawn in enemies, enable the ai when you're ready and defend!
You join a map and few minutes later of enjoying yourself you start to feel the feeling
The sopranos dream sequences convey a feeling I just can’t quite explain
Personally, I enjoy the loneliness and silence whilst exploring maps. It feels comfy, safe and nice, that may come by the fact that I'm extremely introvert and I like the lack of people around.
Right? Those of us who are used to being alone in our day to day, overcome that fear easily
