    Have had this for 4 + years. I do high end finish carpentry and with the Freud LU91R012 12-Inch 72 Tooth ATB Thin Kerf Sliding Miter Saw Blade it works great ruclips.net/user/postUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe . I've had many fellow carpenters make positive comments after borrowing it. Pluses; Sturdy fence, great capacity, low deflection, work lights (Not a gimmick), great dust collection, still as smooth as when i first got it, easy tilt. Minuses ; my digital readout is not accurate(don't use it anyway), heavy.

    Thanks Joshua. It took me a few views to lock in on what you were doing, but once I did it made a world of difference. I watched a lot of other videos but none of them got to the point and explained it as efficiently as you did.

    OH..... my god! thank you!!!! my dyslexic brain was going CRAZY trying to parse how to cut these corners and I kept screwing it up! Your "Inside corners" = "you can see the inside of the molding" is SO simple and SO helpful. Between that and forgetting to mark which side of the quarter round touched the wall and which was on the floor, I thought I was going to ruin ever piece I cut. Thank you!!!

    Hey Joshua. Thanks for the very clear video. I have a more complex problem though. I'm converting the tack room on a small horse trailer and all of the corners are bizarre measurements (< or > 45 degrees). All corners are inside corners. I need crown moulding, baseboards and also moulding on all the inside wall corners. How do I go about measuring/cutting where THREE moulding pieces need to meet up? I'm stumped.

    Good video. I do have a question, I just laid hard wood floors and am now to the quarter round portion. My outside corners are not 90degree angles, instead the walls are rounded and the existing molding is cut into three sections.

    Currently adding cove moulding on a board and batten wall and I keep getting the wrong 45 angle to where it looks like a concave cut..... what is the trick? I've tried both miter shear and a saw and keep getting the same mistake - I'm not dumb but what am I doing wrong??

    Many thanks for helping those of us that are novices. I'm putting quarter round in two bedrooms. The 1/4 round I have has a flat back, (if that makes sense) but it should come out the same huh?

    • @robertb6964
      @robertb6964 8 лет назад

      It will come out the same. Some quarter round may have a 5/8" flat side on one side and a 3/4" flat side on another side. Keep this in mind while cutting. Example measurements used for explanation only.

  • @williameddy2826
    @williameddy2826 8 лет назад

    Joshua , 1. do you cope inside corners on quarter round like you would with baseboard ? In this video you didn`t but what is your normal practice ? 2. Do you ever splice two pieces together and then measure and miter the ends ?

    • @robertb6964
      @robertb6964 8 лет назад

      Not Joshua, but maybe I can be of some help. 1.) You can not come quarter round, cove (shown in the video), square stock, etc. 2.) Yes. I prefer to cut the end of the first piece at a 22.5 degree miter and the beginning of the second piece also at a 22.5 degree miter. This will result in a 45 degree splice. Don't forget to glue and tack with nailer (nail size depends on size/type of trim). End of the second (or final piece if longer than two pieces) piece should have your inside or outside corner. Think ahead and plan your work to have fewer splices as they will show and take away from the overall appearance of the project.

    • @williameddy2826
      @williameddy2826 8 лет назад

      +robertb6964 Robert - Thank you for the information. I had one splice i had to do on a 17 foot piece of baseboard but then screwed up and had to do another because of poor workmanship on my part .( I did not have the piece perfectly horizontal when i cut the mitre so that the cope was off as well .) Fortunately , (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it ) my brother came by to do the nailing for me and made me fix several of my mistakes .It all got done and with the help of a LITTLE caulking it does not look bad .However , i think it would be better and faster to do the splices in the shop before you cut the ends but I did not know if that was acceptable so THANK YOU!
      On another matter I see that you like Marty Robbins . One of my favourite songs is "The Cowboy in the Continental Suit". Bill Eddy

    Your next vid should be about safety...
    Prescription glasses aren't safety glasses!
    You should also have some gloves on for those that you're teaching who are new, should know safety first above all else

    • @on2you
      @on2you 8 лет назад +1

      if you buy the saw the warnings come with it. cotton wool is running low due to people having excessive amounts wrapped around them

    • @couchpoet1
      @couchpoet1 8 лет назад

      Your comment is irrelevant and a low-level intelligence

    • @robertb6964
      @robertb6964 8 лет назад +4

      Look, I don't mean to be rude...but what are gloves going to do in this situation? You are going to lose dexterity and possibly grip on the work piece. And OSHA simply recommends side shields with prescription glasses. Safety has gotten a tad bit out of hand in construction. If you would like to have him talk about safety then look at the concerns such as: others standing on the back side of the saw (flying debris), letting the blade come to a rest before bringing the saw back up, others wielding long objects nearby while one is using a rotating tool such as a miter saw, supporting the work piece, etc. Best of luck to you.
