    Super informative, easy to understand and best of all, STRAIGHT to the POINT! A lot of us have 40+ hr/wk jobs and do home projects on evenings & weekends, which means very little spare time, so discovering a RUclipsr who is able to cover several critical points quickly and eloquently is an incredible gift! Thank you!

      He's even calling it by the right name. Miter saw. I read posts where people talk about their "Chop Saw" and it really bugs me. I live in WA state and I don't recall the word "Chop Saw" ever being used in woodworking at all, by anyone, until the last 10 years or so where the internet seemed to make the word synonymous with miter saws.

    Man am I glad I saw this (and rewound it frequently during the video). Just bought one of these and only watched a couple of reviews and went to work! Fortunately, the small piece of wood that I was trying to cut, while pushing it with a slightly longer piece, missed me as it was propelled from the saw (and slightly damaged the plastic at the slot)! Something told me to watch a few more videos today before moving on to the next project, and as stated before, I’m glad I came across this one! Thanks for sharing!

    I've seen a lot of these videos . They seem to have one thing in common, the saw is stationed too high up. You never want the bed of the saw to be higher than your bellybutton. Reason is, your looking over the work piece instead of at it. This gives your face the most protection from anything flying out of that saw. Also, you have better wrist control on the work piece, being able to push the piece down onto the bed, instead of holding against the back stops with just your fingertips. This is just safety talk, stuff I've learned the hard way over 30 years,

    • @DevinGanger
      @DevinGanger 6 месяцев назад +6

      That’s the right positioning for actual use, but it’s not as useful for videos - where usually you want to see the tool and the face very clearly.

    Until you put your miter saw on a cart, while still manually moving it around, definitely resist the urge to lift and carry it using the trigger handle. That's a sure way to put the blade and/or bevels out of alignment. Instead, pick up the saw by the base or the extension wings. Most miter saws have low-tech metal extension wings intended to support work pieces. They're usually just metal brackets that insert into holes in the side of the base. Since they're not precision attachments, it's okay to pressure them one way or the other.

    Instead of using the pencil & eraser use a 12" or longer 1 by board to lay on the one edge and flat on the table. You will be able to hold it firmer and safer in-place and your hand will not be so close to the blade if for some reason the pencil or the project piece should move.
    Enjoyed the tips! Thank You and keep up the good work with these informative videos. Sometimes it is good for the seasoned woodworker as well as the new ones to go over and be reminded of safety procedures. Blessings my friend!

    Wagner makes a portable pro up "tent" foot small painting projects. It has a back panel that hold a 20x20 hvac filter inside and a box fan outside. With a little ingenuity it firms a nice hood for a miter saw. Use a small vac for the dust port in the saw. The combo massively reduces the dust going all over. The tent for up into a small bag like a auto windshield sunscreen.

    I just found your RUclips channel. Thank you for a great video. I just received a new miter saw, so your videos are very useful. One tip to add to your Safety pointers -- Seriously consider wearing a high-quality dust mask while sawing, as breathing the very fine wood dust in the air can be very bad for your lungs, especially if you do a lot of saw work. Years of using your saw without wearing a dust mask can add up to extremely serious permanent health issues.

    I'm SO glad you mentioned the word "Chop Saw" not being the right term for a wood cutting miter saw. I personally never heard anyone in my woodshop class, or any teachers call the miter saw a "Chop Saw." And in the 1990's and 2000's, a "Chop Saw" always referred to an abrasive cut off saw for metal with a 14" metal cutting blade. It wasn't until some years ago, it seemed like the word "Chop Saw" suddenly started being used to describe miter saws. To this day it bothers me, because there has to be some way to describe a metal cutting "Chop Saw" and a wood cutting "Miter Saw." And calling them both "Chop Saws" is very confusing.
