I am a white belt, just starting, and this made sense to me. I am still at the stage of "show me and I forget what you showed me 5 minutes later" - Thanks
Lol yup. Instructor demonstrates something and I have to ask partner for help every time. Forget techniques 5 time over. And still getting dumpstered every roll by upper belts. The struggle is real
i am a white belt and i didn't sleep because of my test for today, over a month now in jiu jitsu i need to advance in classes since i don't remember you're saving my life, thank you so much!
I’m a white belt. And have used this a lot. And swept higher ranks with it. I love it. I do other sweeps too but this one’s a simple one that I can do very quickly. It’s like muscle memory.
I just got done with my first week of bjj. I was scared of rolling the first two classes, but after those two days I love it, and it’s my favorite part of class. Binging your videos gave me a lot of good tips to use or just know . Thank you chewy
Rolling in the first classes?! Dude, that's a bad idea. If your coach pair you with another white belt or a colored belt that doesn't have any regard for your safety you will get hurt or desmotivated. It's hard to roll knowing nothing.
This is a sweep I learned as a newer student and never had much use for. Suddenly in the last 6 months I’ve started to see the opportunity for this sweep, especially as they defend the kimura by keeping their arm tight. Great details in this one thanks Chewy.
This sweep was one of the first ones I was taught six months ago when I started and it's awesome! Just yesterday on the weekly open mat we do at my academy a Purple Belt asked me to roll and I managed to pull this off and with his still caught on the mount I finally submitted a higher belt for the first time !! (He was obviously not going full with me but anyways he congratulated me on that sweep and armbar technique )
Hey chewy BJJ from.nz here. I'm sure U have thought this well before I. But here we learnt not only the hip bump sweep bit if U don't trap the arm for what ever reason you can also collect the figure 4 if they post out and them kimura from bottom. Either sweep or submit. A favourite in my closed guard game
Both work its about their weight being back, i use it after they get frustrated a bit and taking a small break and you surprise them with it. And i throw my pelvis hard like im punching with it, you need ot of force on strong guys
I love going back to those basic sweeps/moves and finding a new detail or play with a fresh pair of eyes, year and half in and loving it more than ever
Hey Chewy, i wanted to ask you to do a BJJ functional/specific workout workout video that hits all the important areas and muscle groups for BJJ practicioners to stay safe and prevent injuries as well as build strength/endurance. Love your videos, keep it up brother! OSS!
Cool thing is you can run up and down the submission tree. That is, if they post their hand out, take the kimura. If they tuck their arm in to protect against the kimura, go for the sweep. Sometimes you get into a kimura-sweep-kimura-sweep-kimura... back and forth scenario until you finally get ahead of them and get the submission or sweep. Of course, mix the triangles, guillotines, 100% sweep in there too depending on their body position.
a tip my sensei always tells us is when you're about to sweep turn and look the direction you're sweeping while you're pressing your hips against the other person
Hey Chewy. Great breakdown. A tip I learned is with the hand you have based on the ground, turn it as far as you can pointing behind you as soon as you base. It gives a lot of extra ability to push. You are kind of already doing it in this video, and i know this video is for white belts, but still. Hope you find this tip helpful, and lmk if it works for you🥋 ✌️
Sometimes I grab the kimura and sit back, then switch my hips, to go for the finish. This usually leads to a sweep. I guess this technique is for when they put more weight in the kimura'ed arm? So you can't pick it up, instead you go for this
Hey coach, I have a serious question, im a heavy set guy but when I roll with my teammates I feel like I hurt them (unintentional ofcourse), but whenever I drill a move I feel like I always need to watch my top pressure, but my teammates always finish the round in pain. Is it me or are my partners over exaggerating? I always try to avoid using my strength(when on bottom) and even watch my top pressure when in side control/mount or knee on belly. I want to keep training hard while drilling technique! PLEASE HELP!!
I do kung-fu and I love this sweep (though I'm not good at it...yet). Many people in our BJJ gym have done or are doing kung-fu as well. None of them dislikes Chewy's clips, actually a few of them seem to like this specific sweep. Conversely, some people only do BJJ and never did anything else seem to dislike this specific sweep, don't remember the reason.

This was the first sweep I learnt as a white belt. And I was amazed on how simple it is to execute without using much energy or strength.
As a white belt who has been doing 5 days a week since starting about a month ago thank you so much for posting.

Interesting that you use this sweep with a lower postured opponent. I was taught to use it when the opponent postures up high
Both work its about their weight being back, i use it after they get frustrated a bit and taking a small break and you surprise them with it. And i throw my pelvis hard like im punching with it, you need ot of force on strong guys
Awesome video!!!
That really helped me !! I was missing a few of the details!!
Im new to BJJ, working from home Ive been BINGE watching your channel. Thank you so much for this!!
I have been working on this sweep the past week. Perfect timing . I really enjoy this one.
Literally the EXACT type of thing I have been looking for. Thanks Chewy!
that going to the triangle option was smooth and sweet ty!
Great video without all the extra talking. To the point. Thank you.
I love going back to those basic sweeps/moves and finding a new detail or play with a fresh pair of eyes, year and half in and loving it more than ever

The one person disliking the video is someone who got slammed by this sweep

Love the triangle set-up from the "failed" sweep, I'll definitely practice that one! Thanks for sharing!
One of my favourite sweeps
Heck yea. gonna try this tonight! Thanks Chewey!
Thanks Chewy!
As a rookie neophyte with about 15 nogi classes, thats my fav sweep. I didnt know it was kalled the kimora sweep. My 2nd fav is the scissor
First video I’ve seen on RUclips with no dislikes ;)

Amazing dawg thanks 🙏
thank you!
That’s funny my couch showed me this last week
Mine has been watching TV since 2011
So someone at my gym stands up or extends their leg toward the direction I'm sweeping every time I go for it. How would you counter that?
Sometimes I grab the kimura and sit back, then switch my hips, to go for the finish. This usually leads to a sweep. I guess this technique is for when they put more weight in the kimura'ed arm? So you can't pick it up, instead you go for this
A good drill is to rotate this sweep with a mount escape. Just go back and forth.
great content thank you!
Very cool!

And it worked lol

Repetition. Watch the video, try it at the gym. Come back and watch the video again. Repeat.

Ok maybe a dumb question but why is it called a kimura sweep? Didn't see a kimura in it lol
You can keep that arm and finish with a Kimura from mount. It's called a hip bump sweep as well.

Lol I hit this sweep alllllll the time

Hip bump reversal, not a kimora sweep.
mmmmmm, hey Corey..........
