My first jiu jitsu teacher was a blue belt at my uni who helped teach a small club with a few other people including me. He would hit me with this sweep endlessly and I remember him doing it slow as molasses just to demonstrate the importance of learning technique. Once you start hitting it successfully you feel like a ninja, man.
Please make a series of this, and do the main sweeps from different positions. I always forget the small things, these are gold! I can't wait to get back on the mat and my technique and skill development is going to sky rocket from videos like this!
We just got thought this move in class and I didn’t get as much as this tutorial I can’t say enough of how much I learn from you Definitely watching it once doesn’t work… Thanks a lot for all your time
This is absolutely perfect the only thing I would add is if they’re sitting back really well just break that posture so you can get your hand under their leg by just pulling your legs then put the arm under while you’re pulling them to you with your legs
Great video and details. I'm over 40 and a light weight blue belt and this is the first sweep I could hit regularly against higher level and bigger opponents. Cant wait to try these details.
Thanks Chewy! I've only been rolling for about 6 months now and I've been having a hard time getting this sweep right since I learned it a couple months ago!
1st video I’ve watched for a long time, been grading and trying not to confuse my brain but I got my 3rd stripe on my white belt so I’m back for some more Chewy & Adam time! 😂 This fits in nicely with the sweeps I’ve learned (scissor sweep/hooking sweep/sitting up sweep) 👍 Thanks chaps 🤙
Started doing this sweep today, I'm still figuring it out but it's been already working way better than any of the other sweeps i knew. This sweep works wonders when you have massive meat tubes for legs like me, the more heft in your legs the more momentum you can carry with that swing.
The off balancing and forcing the opponent to lift up or tricking him to/waiting for him to lift up from a strong base is crucial here otherwise he/she is going nowhere. On the point about competition prep, I think that for those starting out in competitions there needs to be more focus on takedowns and takedown recovery (sadly not taught alot in many clubs) and learning to avoid gassing out which happened to me in my competitions. This wasn't down to poor conditioning but nerves and adrenaline etc.
Excellent this has me landing it consistently. If I lived near this Gym I would one hundred percent be attending. Thank you so much for your content and help.
I'm a white belt and the mistakes your guys made are the same ones I keep making but I'll get it down! I'm gonna surprise my coach soon when I pull this out
Can you do a video series on the different Gi brands and what feels comfortable, what length works, when/where to use a light weight version for a competition to help make weight or when to use a heavy one for practice and just all types of Gi questions xD thank you Chewy!!!
My goodness, can Adam at least let Chewy get a word in - he won’t shut up! Sweeps are still a problem for me, thanks for the tips will give it a try. Keep up the good work! :)
As always, Chewy dropping some knowledge right when I need it. Was having some trouble with this sweep a couple days ago. I'll try to practice this sweep again and focus on these details. Thanks!
Just covered this in class yesterday, I had a hard time landing it but I feel like with the details shown here I can make some improvements. Strong work!
Me currently - Okay sick. I’m going to do this Wednesday... Wednesday - wait, what did I learn? Hand through? No wait, other side... 15 seconds later, tapping out.
Hey Chewy! You seem really relaxed teaching and talking to the camera. Am I right, and if so: did this come naturally to you, or is it because you have done it for so many years? If I look at myself, I feel really awkward talking to groups or especially camera's 😅😅
You guys are out of your minds. That ending...Adam, my man! That is some straight SNL level mockery. Scrubbing your butt? Really? Then Adam wiggles his pinkie. I lost it at work laughing.
I like to overhook the posting arm for control , put my foot on his hip and sit back on my hip. At this point his arm isolated and hes has to drive into me, that is when I underhook the leg and start the sweep ,I feel like that is way easiest set up for smaller people to sweep much bigger opponents.
We did this in class yesterday. What I didn't realize is just how much you have to shift angle to get enough torque with the pendulum, almost 90 degrees.
Chewy I've seen this taught with the leg swing but I've also seen a variation where the bottom leg doesn't swing, rather it traps the opponents foot to keep them from basing. What's ur take on that variation?
I’m laying in bed, pretending to sleep, watching Chewy teach the pendulum sweep as my wife lays next to me 🤣😂🤣 And then you call me out for it at the end 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Hi I’m relatively new to Jiu Jitsu, I’m like 6-7 lessons in. I was wondering when the appropriate time to tap is during sparring. Like I obviously am going to tap before I feel as though im going to black out, but I also don’t want to tap before I try to escape or let my partner really lock the submission. I guess the issue im having is that when I get choked my throat hurts for a couple of days after even if I manage to escape the choke. Does that mean im not tapping when I should be?
I’ve doing this off and on for like 5 years. My experience is tap quick at first until you get used to the submissions and build up some tolerance to them. Also, think long term. Avoid injury and tap. Now every once in awhile or if you are in a tournament or something then by all means go for it. Otherwise just try to learn. You’ll get tapped like every 30 seconds in the beginning. Then every few minutes. Then you’ll survive a round or so. Then you’ll start tapping some people out too. Hang in there. It’s a marathon. Enjoy the journey.
This was Adam's masterpiece. It will never be topped.
I had to make this 69 likes. Nice
Adam Wilson with the dead face jazz hands, hilarious.

Adam's facial evolution during that whole ramble 🤣
Now this is an excellent video because it shows you how to reverse your situation. This is a move made for people who want to dominate.
Perfect, exactly what I need right now as a new white belt.
The end is just hilarious. Whoa he spoke. Lol
Adam.
Adams pose at the end hahaha. Awesome video, gents.
The ending was hilarious, the rest was very educational, great work as always. Thumbs up
We just got thought this move in class and I didn’t get as much as this tutorial

My absolute favorite Bjj commentator. Thanks Chewy.
Great instruction on the Pendulum Sweep! Tucking the feet under the person's hips/but is a must to stop a bridge.
This video was perfect. More please!
I know I've seen this video multiple times, but everytime feels like the first time. Definitely my favorite Chewy video. 🙌
Thank you, Professor Chewy and Professor Jazz Hands! I worked on this for the first time, and I really appreciate you sharing this instruction!

LOL I love this video. The chill down after, almost feels like class, love you guys!

The ending to this always kills me. Great sweep too
I love your channel, it’s so easy for me to binge watch solid jiujitsu content, thank you

We just drilled these on Tuesday, taking the hooked leg up to the shoulder, and driving your head toward the mat. Made it easier to manipulate them.
My wife is passed out, and I’m secretly watching Jiu-Jitsu videos.
Depends where your hands while watching😂😂😂
I think that from now on I'll don something silky before watching your videos. Mood is everything. :)
Woah just searched pendulum sweep to practice in class today and found this was just posted... it's fate!!!
After we learned this in class it was one of those moves that I always liked and still use. Even catch blue belts once in a while with it. 👍🏼
Thank you guys ! 🙏
Adam! 😁
Awesome stuff! Adam never disappoints per usual.
Never ever
That ending haha. Thanks for the tips Chewy, Ive been trying this sweep lately, seems like a really useful one.
Perfect! This is exactly what I've been working on lately.
Can you do a video series on the different Gi brands and what feels comfortable, what length works, when/where to use a light weight version for a competition to help make weight or when to use a heavy one for practice and just all types of Gi questions xD thank you Chewy!!!
Very helpful! I always forget to break the center of gravity with sweeps. Thank you, much appreciated.
My goodness, can Adam at least let Chewy get a word in - he won’t shut up!
Sweeps are still a problem for me, thanks for the tips will give it a try. Keep up the good work! :)
The little scoot under them, to become perpendicular, seems to be key. I had trouble until I started getting under them well
No jitz for a month here in the UK due to another full lockdown, just getting into it and your videos are very helpful 💪
enjoying my morning coffee, thanks for the video !!!
Great vid and bonus points for the finishing pose sesh at the 5:55 mark lol Thanks!

Thank you so much for sharing.
Me currently - Okay sick. I’m going to do this Wednesday...
Wednesday - wait, what did I learn? Hand through? No wait, other side...
15 seconds later, tapping out.
I just had that experience this morning!
Great haircut sir, very sharp!
Adam is the Silent Bob of BJJ
:) great work as always.
Hey curious chewy how is it that you guys are open. Training with no masks on? So confused.
When I was taught flower sweep in the late nineties; this is what I was taught.
This was immaculate
*great demo!!!! thx!!!*
Hey Chewy!
You seem really relaxed teaching and talking to the camera. Am I right, and if so: did this come naturally to you, or is it because you have done it for so many years?
If I look at myself, I feel really awkward talking to groups or especially camera's 😅😅
Great Vid! Funny ending.
Since you brought up the flower sweep in the beginning what conditions would lead you to choose the flower sweep and vice versa for the pendulum?
love these guys
Thanks for the help dad ❤️

Glad to give you a laugh.

I was waiting for Adam to blow a kiss the whole time, lmao

Thank you Sir
omg i watched this to the very last second and that was the greatest ending to a youtube video that i've ever seen!! lmaoo

Love the ending. Lol
Nice!

You and Adam have a Penn and Teller vibe haha
Wow. Danaher looks young in this one. I'll have what he"s having.
Hilarious. I actually was watching this in the shower no lie😆
As Chewy is winding down the video....Adam! Lol...
Adam doing the Burt Reynolds...
Chewy: “Adam...?”
Adam: “...Adam”
Whatever you're doing, I'm glad you're here 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why are your wall mats uneven?
Came for the sweep. Stayed for the seduction.
Whats it called if you beer can grip his right ankle and do the the same mechanics
