Guillotine Choke from Full Guard (Every White Belt Should Know This One)

- Today's BJJ technique video is a request for a Guillotine Choke from Full Guard. This is one of the earliest submissions I learned in Brazilian Jiujitsu. As I show in the video, this particular technique set up works off of the basic Kimura Sweep / Hip Bump Sweep position.
If the sweep fails you come right back into the submission. Which is a valuable lesson in itself for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Learning to chain techniques together so that even if 1 thing fails, you can always move on to another.
Also in the video I give some key points on finishing the Guillotine Choke efficiently as well as how to change your grip and finish the Arm In Guillotine Choke should the person get their arms in the way.
If this is a move you were interested in then I hope this video helps!
Thanks for watching.

If you’d ever like to train with the team and I. Check out my gym Derby City MMA in Louisville,KY.
I took my first jiu jitsu class last night. It hurts to even carry my backpack but it was awesome.
Update:
After about two and a half years of sucking, I finally got my blue!
Welcome🙏🏻🤙🏼
Get some!
Even after six years of bah jay jay, I still wake up sore to some degree It never goes away...
OSS!!! stay consistent man, I started when I was 19. I was 6’5” 380lbs and now I’m 24, 263 currently a purple belt and it’s just another lifestyle now
Handle That’s a tough roll for a dude my size. 6’ 165. 😂
Being a smaller dude, this choke has got me out of 4 different actual fights in my life and I never thought to switch that grip on someone you cannot finish.
how does it feel to be in a fight?
@@juliangarcia3776 scary, extremely scary. Be the first time in your life somebody genuinely wants to hurt you. Stay calm and take deep breaths to not lose composure and technique
Your one of the reasons why i started jiu jitsu chewy. I just started a week a ago but I am loven it so far, thank you for the amazing videos!
Solar8ty Games same! I love it now!!!
Excellent. Happy to help. And congrats on getting started!
lol same here i watched his videos for a few months before i actually walked into the bjj gym xD
How’s it going?
@@boylikenik6167 dang it's been 7 months already now?!?!?!?! Yea well I've been still going at it, 2 times a day, 6 times a week. I've been loving bjj im entering my first tournament next month!
Adam has more character than most characters in tv shows
And he never talks. He's like a training dummy with a pulse and became self aware.
@@KhaosWolf94 "Adam"-Adam 2020
Adam is THE character.
Awesome detail! My daughter gets guillotine a lot, but struggles with finish at times... this will add another tool to her kit!
One other key detail if you notice what Professor Chewy is doing is upper cutting the choking arms elbow to the opposite hip of the partner. Also, making sure her armpit covers the neck. This allows for the elbow to line up with partners chin for the quick tap. A guillotine choke if done correctly is a 1 second tap. Even arm in guillotine can be 1 second tap. For me the simple monkey grip over the choking arm wrist suffices, because no need to adjust.
J S thanks for those additional details!
1:22 that noise and timing
Yes
And THE FACT THAT ADAM IS BALD LMAOOO
42 reasonably fit, starting bjj soon, my joints are aching just watching the vids. Looking forward to it though.
The moment when you are 42, think you are reasonably fit and start BJJ ;-)
BJJ will very quickly recalibrate your perspective and although you will suffer, you will love every minute of it.
@@dirksteffen9375 Probably but I trained Muay Thai for years, so I'm used to pain ;)
@@MrKnightlore There really isn't much pain involved but a constant and relentless ever increasing level of muscular exhaustion of muscle groups you have never trained before even with a regular regimen of striking and gym workouts. I was shocked during the first weeks where on my body I could feel sore and never had before ;-)
BJJ is the ultimate full body workout if you do nothing else.
@@dirksteffen9375 Started a few weeks ago, not finding it as hard on the body as Thai boxing. I would say I ache a lot less deffo, but then with Thai boxing we did a lot of bodyweight training as well so probably why. Can see I will need to do some weights with this for strength training
Did you start?
Seriously though, the analogies are super helpful! Remembering "rock the baby" concept has helped me tenfold. Thanks for all of your help to an aspiring white belt!
Got my blue belt tonight thanks for all your vids Dave Liverpool UK Tony Bebington bjj oss
I love how at 3:07 Adam looks at Chewy's reverse gable grip explanation like there is wizardry afoot.
I’ve struggled with hitting a guillotine since I started… even when I fully get the neck, can’t get the tap.
Watched this today and got my first sub with it against a pretty solid guy tonight while rolling.
Thanks Chewy!
Love the We Defy shirt! Glad to see the vet support.
Chewy, thank you for all your information. Today I was given my white belt under Bruno Tostes- a black belt under Renzo Gracie, and my first 2 classes were 2 of the best hours of my life.
I made the jump because of you
As a one strip white belt, I’m super excited to try this next week
Watched a ton of guillotine videos and yours was the easiest to grasp the concept of this choke 👍
Thanks! Guillotine is my go to choke. Will definitely give this technique a try. Cheers!
Adam seems like such a nice, laid-back dude - he must always be the coolest dude on the mat!
I remember binge watching your videos before I started. That was back in December and now I've been training 10 months going 7-10 times a week!
Makes sense
damn that’s a flexible gym, mine only offers 2 gi classes a week
Saw this video last week and finally found it again. Can’t wait to try this tomorrow morning!
Chewy, the way you explain things is so awesome and easy to follow. Thank you!
nice insightful video !
Another one to add to my skill list
Adam is an inspiration
i love this dude sm
That’s a legit detail. I’ve never seen that grip!
We all need an Adam in our lives.
the grip detail was fiiiireeeeeee
I got attacked by this guy who had too much to prove. your videos helped me choke him out. I got very little combat experience but I read fedors book also. Might as well learn from some of the best
That "pop" when his bald head popped out was impeccably timed
Wow, thankyou for this video. as a new white belt I've always been doing the guillotine with the non choking arm cupping the wrist. This is a great lesson.
I was hoping Adam said “I’m feel. I’m very feel” 😂😂😂
Thank God I subscribed to these channel real helpful on my jiu jitsu
And it still works! I am the only woman in no-gi training, it's a huge challenge every time I step on the mats, being the lightest person in the room.
Today I used this with two different, heavier and more experienced guys, and it worked. That "rock the baby" technique helped a lot (not sure who was more surprised, them or me). Thank you for all you do, your videos are super helpful!
Great Explanation!
Yup, nice! Plus, if they have good defense, you can sneak the choking hand under the arm for an underhook, exposing your underhook hand palm down, bring your other hand over their back and lock a gable grip. Post your foot on the hook side, and roll. This gives you a neck crank (release after rolling if in a tournament so you don't get DQed). Great video!
Almost 2 months in and I get caught in these all the time! I’ve been wanting to learn this one. Thank you!
Well, now we need an "how to escape" video LOL
Placed 2nd in my first agf tournament in Biloxi and got my first stripe last friday. Been training for three months lost 45 pounds absolutely love jiu-jitsu
That sound effect really sold it for me.
love the vids guys. I'm getting big ted lasso and coach beard vibes!
I support your work brother. Going to purchase your guard passing course when I have the funds. All love
Great tweak finishing on one side, also keeps your opponent off balance quite a bit.
Chewy x adam the best
😁
Perfect guillotine demonstration! Thanks!
Chewy love your videos , and you inspired me to restart bjj after 16 years out..unfortunately I went back just as covid started 😕
But can't wait to get back into it, however I dont feel like a blue belt anymore
Love the channel ❤
Had an exhibition match today, ended with my opponent in a guillotine. He said afterwards that another 10 seconds and he would of tapped, but the timer went. But I don't want to have a guillotine that takes ages to hit, these adjustments should do the trick, will drill them next week. Cheers Chewy 🤙
the pretzel grip is amazing. (reverse gable grip)
Good trick with the reverse gable. Subbed.
Can't wait to try this one.
"Adam" - Adam 2020
Thanks Chewy!
I know I speak for everyone... we love Adam. He’s so outspoken😂😂
Used this in open mat today... Thank you
One of the only submissions I can pull off with out having to rethink if I’m doing it correctly
these vids are awesome
Now I am sitting at my computer shaking my own hands like an idiot. Nice detail on guillotine chewy!
Cool details thanks Chewie
Hey love the videos can you do any submission from side control
Ty so much, I have been having issues with where to put my arm. Always kept doing it backwards lol
Damn I needed this yesterday….I sprawled on two different rolls caught the head but I didn’t angle I went back and head popped out🤦🏾♂️😂😂
one technique per video seems like a smart series idea
Much needed, thank you 🙏🏽
that head pop sound was on point
"Rocking the baby to sleep" while instructing a guillotine is the funniest shit I've heard in a while.
Awesome bro. Great channel 👏
Adam...dude. The expressions are hilarious.
Thanks for teaching me that brother
Never practiced bjj only boxing and I was a wrestler in high school but I had a natural feel for it so this bjj brown belt wanted me to train more of it and he said I was one of the fastest learners he ever couched I got in a fight not to long ago I got him in a triangle choke within 15 seconds he was sleeping BJJ is legit
Love from holland , how to the Guilotine and make the person quit? I will subscribe now
LMAO the sound at 1:21 was too perfect
Great video!
Thanks chewi 🤙🤙
Could you show how to do a Ezekiel choke no gi? I have trouble doing it because I can't my hand under there neck and or they guard with there chin. From mount and if possible from closed guard once you pull them in!
We actually just did this in class the other day. If he doesn't explain it eventually I can try lol
Chewy can you show how to escape the half guard from someone with super strong legs.
Awesome video thank you so much
Thank you!
Nice detail
Great stuff. Thanks, brother
Love it, thanks!
3:52
I've been told to use my blade on my hand for chokes, so which one would be better. The first grip or the second? Or would you recommend using the blade?
I love learning this. Also look at Adam 2:57
Thank you
Excelleeent... Thank you!
I´m a little brute to get the reverse cable grip but looks fun.
Adam's head pops out (1:23) because there is no friction. 😄
Dont want to get away from technique but i love adam! Glad hes learning how to dismember people in a safe environment with chewy!😂😂 Hope hes able to cont bjj on day release for a long time 😉😀,🐵
So, I always have trouble finishing this move - more specifically making that space to where I can grab my hand that is on their chin.
Great 👍🏼 details - Osssss
This is real ! It works !! And I train Gi.
He was on top of me I went for the kimura to get his wait over on one side and I swept him. Then I head and arm choked him. I really tried to avoid the confrontation like rener Gracie said in his video but it was unavoidable.
very good
Anyone know if this one works? Would have been helpful tonight.
Thanks chewy I was messing up my guillotines so much tonight 😂
This the first video I watched from you but I subscribe only for the simple fact we share a nickname lmao good content either way tho
Is this effective in a self-defense situation?
Autographicly Aubrey I'm interested in learning
If you have other bids please send the too to me
Thank you for this video!
One question: does this make the guillotine a blood choke or it's all on the throat? Does your arm have to cover both sides of the opponent's neck?
Do these concepts still work against a kneeling or standing opponent?
Nice!
This will take some practice
Do you have any flow drills in BJJ? If so, could you show multiple transitions depending what is given to you?
