Used the initial technique and it worked so well I haven't had a chance to use the others yet! Rolled the first three people directly to side control. It was almost too easy! Amazing instruction! Thank you as this has helped my game!
The first position only works if the guy you're rolling with is not that good. Because anyone above a white belt would always go for an underhook and wouldn't just lay on top of you with no control.
I'm a white belt that's been having trouble escaping half guard. I brought the "waive to the camera" technique into open mat and it worked like a charm. Thank you.
I’ve been doing and teaching bjj for a long time and this is still one of my favorite videos on RUclips. This will make almost anymore better at bjj if they haven’t seen it.
What's missing from most youtube BJJ videos is live sparring at full speed to show the move against someone who is actively trying to keep side control for example.
I cannot freaking wait to try these! I'm 6', 194 lbs (white belt)....but getting stuck in side control and cannot escape from almost anyone, whether they be larger or smaller; apparently I have a weak back or something, but bridging & shrimping (especially getting to my side) seems impossible for me. These look like they may work really well for me. I cannot WAIT to try. Thank you sir!
We were drilling sidemount escapes literally just last night and now this comes up. One of our guys has the tightest sidemount I have ever seen. He tucks his top elbow behind his knee and squeezes with both, while doing a cup-hold and pulling inwards on the far shoulder. While he does that, he locks himself down on you completely, but you aren’t escaping.
Gonna try this out tomorrow...usually l have big plans after watching some RUclips videos only to completely mess it up in a live roll ..im quietly confident though
Thanks guys this helped me a lot in sparring I was able to get a stripe on my belt for jujitsu. our ranks go by stripe on belt on a little black strip thanks so much
in all these escapes, your arm was free and you were able to get your elbow inside. (right arm on the last escape). a good side control wouldnt let you get your elbow in. please demo one like this
for me it was about not letting it get that bad. if it is, my arm is I'm the best place it can be to then hip jump like suggested above and improve the position even slightly. I have a blue belt for awhile but this helped me alot.
I watched this video one time a few years ago and I escape side control like 70% of the time by using that thing where you flip them over and reverse the position. They never think it's going to happen, and even when they know me and know that I do it all the time, they still don't think it's going to work on that particular occasion.
I was struggling to escape when I was trying to use my knee to touch my elbow when I was doing sparring and when I was trying to do underhook escape and this video helps me a lot.
Thanks, Chad. Im about 8 months into training and trying to play open guard. Obviously a huge learning curve here. Keep getting smashed in side control. Looking forward to giving these a try. No Liabilities! 😎
I have only had 1 jiu jitsu class so far and i am already here getting a head start for the next practice session. We are not good enough to roll yet, but we like to wrestle from the different positions. Christ, Jiu jitsu is addictive.
Binky Bones it sure is, in the beginning, I was going 6 times a week , M-W-F during lunch and the fundamentals classes M, F night and then the 90 min Saturday class. I wanted to get as much mat time as possible. Once I fractured my rib and had a QL injury and was out 2.5 months, I dropped to 3x-4x a week. My 12 & 7 year old daughters do BJJ and oldest also does Mauy Thai so I practically live at the gym.
Amazing! I have such a hard time getting out of the more experienced guys side control. So I'll be sure to use these techniques to get out now. BIG thank you beast!!!
Dude this is what I have.been looking for for ages. Simple no gi methods for escaping side control. Gonna try the fuck out of this tomorrow morning. I am a stocky dude but I keep getting stuck with a beginner guy who is over 300lb and he only knows side control. And I don't have any good escapes from side control. So I wriggle and get absolutely flattened for 5 minutes or so and then I am exhausted. It has been almost 2 weeks and everything I have tried has failed. All the videos require ideas that don't involve a 315 lb monster leaning his shoulder on your throat and chest to chest and arms clinging to your neck in a death grip. And half them are gi. This stuff though, sensible and looks like it will actually work on guys of all sizes. Thanks man Subbed
@@guilhermemrdeath I'll remember to say that to all the 165lb guys while I'm pressure passing them. I'm around 235-240 and muscular. For the record, after a few weeks of trying this, the most reliable escapes have been just the basic hip escape and a little bit some stuff from Brian Peterson. I've only ever managed to get the sweep of this in drilling. I'm white belt and kinda slow though. hahaha
@@eschelar I have been using these escapes in the last week and they have been working well for me especially the sweep, but it is nearly impossible hit it in a guy that is much stronger and heavier and I am 130lbs guy, so every body is bigger than me, but I could hit it sometimes times in training.
Thanx Chad, I much prefer these escapes against a larger opponent as opposed to the "hip-away-then-suck-in-my-btm-leg" since inevitably, their knee sticks to my hip even when I shrimp away and blocks my attempt to scoot my left under them and place them in full or half guard. Can't wait to try these!
I'm pretty bad with the hip swings, not enough mobility there yet to be effective against better players. But that first one is hot. That's right up my alley. Will use that for sure.
We did a variation of the 3rd. With pendulum. Problem is dude already has too much weight over on top. When a good player has his head on the close side with shoulder pressure and blocking the hips, it's sucks worse.
The very last side control escape you did looks like high-low guard from the Gracie Jiu Jitsu curriculum. Now that I’ve seen you do it, I feel more confident about drilling that and the other sweeps/reversals you demonstrated. Thanks!
Professor Beast, could you please do a video (or several) on how to maintain side control versus a bigger and or stronger opponent? I get guys doing that spin out the back door side control escape. Not sure how to counter that. Thanks!
I have a tournament today! I'm a white belt and it will be my first tournament I'll definitely practice this escape before I head out hopefully they come in handy if needed, not gonna lie I'm feeling kind of nervous 😬
Really good stuff. I've been a fan of Chewy for a long time but my body type/game is a lot more similar to you(6'4" 195) Good to know how to deal with huge wrestlers in side control which is always a tough situation
Just a thing I noticed about the first one, since your turning away from them, they could just take your back. In my 4 year BJJ experience, all my coaches have told me not to turn away from them.
It's like RUclips knows where I've been getting crushed recently and recommends the perfect video. Thanks!
Me too!

Omg escapes for days!
Bro I know you posted this a year ago. But SAAAAAME AF
Why escape when you feel so safe
I get smothered and can’t breath in side control lmao
@@Mercartingfr fr
I spent more time stuck in side control than I do in my own house.
1st move: 0:08
2nd move: 1:23
3rd move: 2:17

This gives me hope. I always feel helpless when I’m in side control.
I always hope they go for kimura cause I can only escape from there 😂😂

Are you talking about the arm that's framing on the neck (white belt here)
You should try to go on the side when you try to put the knee to touch your elbow and you should always hold the opponent’s arm tight
