Different laptops have different keys to enter BIOS. The common ones are F2, F8, F10, F12, and Del. Hope this helps somebody.

I removed Windows and installed MINT. Following instructions I removed the USB and restarted but got the message "no boot system"! Starting up and pressing F2 asking for password which I do not have. Any suggestions?

    Worthless.
These laptops don't even give you the option to boot into the BIOS any more.
You have to boot into Windows and restart and set the option to boot into the BIOS.
Guess what happens when the hard drive dies and you can't boot to Windows any more?
It doesn't choose the new hard drive as the default boot device and it won't load the BIOS until you boot into Windows and tell it to reboot into the BIOS.
    What the hell, Acer?
