    As a retired orthopedic nurse I advised my patients... your joints are damaged at the moment when they do the op they will be Fixed! But you can undo their work if you don't follow their instructions. On how to look after your knee post op follow the dos and don'ts. You will be absolutely fine and asking yourself why you didn't get it done sooner. Lots of love.

      Hubs would be drenched in sweat just taking a few steps so had both knees replaced at the same time. He hated the occupational therapist (ouch) but healed in record time and was glad he had it done. Hugs.

    I almost didn't watch this one, because I have an autoimmune allergy to tomatoes, but I'm glad I did.
    You said, "I'm me, I'm real." And you are. I think it's one of your great gifts and strengths. And what's more, even though you're talking to a camera, you are aware that the people watching are real, too. Social media can be treacherous, but it can also be a vehicle for real people to connect and build community.
    When you've had traumatic events in your life, when you have PTSD, your neural circuits are altered (they can see it on fMRI scans) in such a way that the reactions to things which make anybody a bit nervous are magnified. You jump from 0 to 100 in a nanosecond. But it isn't just a neural and emotional response. When you suffer any kind of serious trauma, it robs you of the belief that such things happen to other people, not you. So when your limbic system starts sending out its catastrophe warning alerts, your cognitive mind says, "It could happen." You know the unsettling fact that bad things can happen to anyone (even ones who eat kale every day 😄; even ones with a positive attitude).
    To say that it's a pain to live with is an understatement.
    But I think you're doing a very good job of managing it. "Managing" doesn’t mean suppressing it and pretending you're fine. It means acknowledging it and addressing it in whatever nondestructive way works for you, so it doesn't prevent you from functioning.
    Just in this one video, you:
    Acknowledged what you're feeling and why.
    Acknowledged you're having a hard time with it.
    Made a conscious decision not to let it take control.
    Found work for your hands.
    Decided to give yourself some pampering with a favorite comfort food and a night off cooking dinner.
    Thought about something good which had happened (the apron).
    Planned how to divert your mind from going to dark places, by binge watching mindless TV.
    Came up with something to look forward to after the surgery (a couple of new books).
    Wow! That's an impressive lot of methods of managing! You are doing this so well. Not to suggest that having all that anxiety and fear isn't damnably uncomfortable. I'm sure you wish you could make them go away.
    Everybody is nervous before surgery. You just happen to have a condition which takes "normal" anxiety and magnfies it, like whipping egg whites. You are a meringue of anxiety. That's just how it is. But you're impressively skilled at coping.
    By the time you're my age, you will have your anxiety so well trained it will heel on your command.
    One other thing. I recently heard a rural Appalachian grandmother's advice for dealing with anxiety and depression: "Get out of your brain and into your hands." In other words, get active doing something physical. You did that, too; you made tomato soup. You got this.

    As an anxiety sufferer myself, I know it sounds ridiculous, and that it doesn’t work, but for me it does… get yourself a small notepad, or post it notes and just write down positive affirmations about the operation, statements of FACT about it like “I’ve got this’ and “I know nothing will go wrong” and “everything will be fine”. Just place them all over the house when you see them on the daily. If you are anything like me, those positive affirmations, entering your mind over and over and over again, offset the anxiety thoughts that you also have over and over again, and it puts you in a much better place. I think it’s because the worrying thoughts come naturally, so you repeat them, but you have to specifically force those positive thoughts to occur with the same regularity.

      A lot of the techniques I use to manage my mental health sound simplistic when I describe them, but they work. They kind of reprogram your brain circuits to divert it from going down its familiar downward spiral. Now I'm an old lady and I seldom have to use them anymore, except that some of them are automatic now.

    • @leannekenyoung
      @leannekenyoung 4 месяца назад +2

      Sometimes as anxiety sufferers it’s about what our brains have picked up over the years and seem to be the worst of the worst that we have on repeat and until we can identify what those are we usually can’t fix them so what I would do is keep a notepad with me all the time and when a negative thought would come into my head I would write it down and then judge is it true or not, it is wasn’t true I would write across it in big bold letters NOT TRUE!!! And if it was true I would create an alternative reality to it and one that I can work on going forward and then I would create a positive mantra from that. It’s all about what we allow ourselves to believe in our brain and all that we allow to put on endless loops and most of the time when we bring it into conscious thought we realize it’s not even true anyway. God bless I hope this works. 🥰❤️🍁🙏🏻🇨🇦

    • @just_passing_through
      @just_passing_through 4 месяца назад +2

      @@leannekenyoung Exactly. At the end of the day it’s really nothing more than perception. It just takes some of half a lifetime to work out how to redirect our brains. Humans are weird. 🤣🤣🤣

    I find hearing success stories helps me focus on the upcoming surgeries. My aunt just had her first knee done. No regrets and so much less pain and she’s not scared to get the next one done now. When my daughter was in the hospital 7 days with a broken back, she was on the orthopaedic floor. The bed next to her had 3 people come and go with knee surgery. All said no regrets. I hope you have a speedy recovery and feel better soon. Remember to take good care of yourself because you’re important. ❤

    Some good books are by Diana Gabaldon, her first book in the series is called ,' cross stitch'
    The series is set in Scotland, she is a dr and goes foraging in Inverness, she parks her bicycle by the standing stones and ends up getting pulled through and finding herself 200 years prior. She meets the live of her life and has some extraordinary experiences. It's fiction but some events are from history, like Culloden etc. there are several books in her series. A bit of something for everyone..I got the first book from the library, then I bought the whole series♥️
    I hope your surgery goes well, the most awkward thing will be managing crutches and cooking!! 🌻💐 Sending good thoughts your way

    Hi Stacey. First of all good luck for your surgery. You'll be absolutely fine I'm sure. Secondly. I have been preserving tomato soup using the pressure cooker for about 30 years. Have just done 20 jars a month or so back. I have always used fresh tomatoes and the usual onions, celery, parsley, salt and pepper. After cooking it I meuli it and then add it back into the pot and then add butter and flour mixed together and cook until thick. I know a lot of recipes advise not to add butter or flour but I have never had a problem with the quality of the soup, we've never been sick after eating it and once one of our sons had some which had been in the cupboard for a few years and it was perfectly fine. I've never made it with canned tomatoes but another one of our sons has and it was nice as well. Once again good luck with your surgery. Take care.

    Here to support you. From personal experiences, it is the unknown that is stressful. Everyone deals with this in their own way, so just know that I and I'm sure, the majority of people here have you in their prayers and thoughts.❤

    Glad you have had your knee surgery, sorry it wasn’t the ultimate fix but see how you recover. I came to watch video and get the post office box number, that’s the only bit missing, the number lol. I shall check back. I have the New Zealand Edmonds cookbook and before that I used my ancient Mrs Beatons cookbook. Can’t wait to fill you in on what’s been happening here. Much love & healthy recuperating. ❤❤❤

    Hello Stacey, I have just made your tomato sauce, it's fabulous. I had two tins of the same tomatoes as you, so I have just used them. If it's any help, my man had two knees replaced last year, and he's running again now. So, all the best.

    I had bilateral knee replacement 13 years ago. The key is doing the physical therapy without fail. Is there pain, sure but no more than what the knees had been giving me. You will do great just keep moving. As for a book I would recommend Rick Bragg’s book The Best Cook in the World: Tales from My Mamma’s Southern Table. It is a memoir to his mother and her cooking. They live in the state of Alabama in the USA and he gives her recipes as he tells her story

    Awww sweetie…any procedure is unsettling….try being more optimistic and looking past the operation and try focusing on how it is going to help and how things will be for the better once it does. Positivity can make all of the difference across the board…before and after… and is something you can control…I find focusing on the all the details and little bits and bobs of the procedure and pre op just gives birth to things I can’t do anything about. THINK POSITIVE! NO NEGATIVITY ALLOWED! Big hugs!… it will ALL be fine.

    My husband has a complete knee replacement 19 days ago. He walks (no crutch, no walker, nothing) easily in the house. Yes, A LOT of physio therapy and some pain killers but he is SOOOOOOO HAPPY that there is no more pain in his knee. Go for it! You may have to stop producing videos for a while but you will be back soon enough!

    I had both knees replaced in the last year. Its made a world of difference in my life. Most important thing is to do the exercises after surgery. I suffer from anxiety also and was nervous before. Once surgery was over i thought why did i wait so long. Good luck with your surgery and wish you a speedy recovery!!
