    Just looks divine. I absolutely adore homemade tomato soup. My son has been making it and bringing some over to me out of his garden tomatoes. It’s delicious, too. Thank goodness we were able to bottle home grown tomatoes, so when it’s good and cold, we can pamper ourselves w/ thee heavenly soup. I’m never buying store canned tomato soup again!! Thanks for this tutorial. Bring on those winter days!!!

    I'm always surprised to see that no one mentions that baking soda can be used to neutralize the acidity of the canned tomatoes eliminating the need for sugar. I use it for my tomato soup, chilli and any tomato based sauce. Super easy fix.

    I saw a recipe the other day that had a different option for flavor. He put the onion, garlic and a few fresh tomatoes (the rest were canned) in the oven to roast before he prepared the soup. He wrapped the garlic in foil so it wouldn't burn and the rest just had a little oil, salt & light pepper. So just another option while using the same ingredients.

    Hi Mary! Thank you for this recipe! I drain my canned tomatoes through a sieve over a bowl, (save the liquid) open them up (also saving the liquid) and put them on a roasting pan. I roast them in a hot oven for 30-35 minutes. Then I build the soup. Roasting the tomatoes gives the soup a depth of flavor. It’s one more step but we enjoy the taste. Love all of your videos. I’ve learned so much!

I know a woman-one story of many-w/multiple brain tumors documented on diagnostic imaging & scheduled for brain surgery a month out. Her prayer group went all out & when she went for further imaging before surgery her brain surgeons could find no evidence of the tumors-some were inoperable. They were dumbfounded & even did the MRI twice to be sure; there was no mistake & she’s been fine since. I pray a lot & am so grateful to those who hold me in their prayers.🙏🏼Blessings to you & may you & your loved ones be very well. Best,~Marirose 💛🌀🤗

    Thank you for the tutorial, Mary. My sister and I made homemade tomato soup in the past and it was really good. I'm planning to share your tutorial on my blog this week. 😃
    A tip to those who want to make cream of tomato soup - it can be tricky to get the cream to mix in without curdling. One easy cheat that can solve that is to use sour cream or softened whipped cream cheese. Since they are already soured they tend to mix in better/easier.
    Also, another interesting flavor option is to add cumin to your soup for a more Mexican flavor twist. You can sprinkle the top with shredded cheddar and minced black olives if you like. It would be great served along side quesadillas. 😃 An excellent winter lunch!

    • @cathys949
      @cathys949 Год назад

      Another solution to the curdling problem is to use canned evaporated milk. Since it's already been cooked, it won't curdle in your tomato soup! Even just a spoonful stirred into your bowl gives it that little creaminess that is so luxurious.
      And remember, use the evaporated milk in your white chicken chili, broccoli-cheddar soup, and vodka sauce for pasta - or any other recipe that calls for cooking cream or milk.

I always had trouble finishing tomato soup after my grilled cheese sandwich was eaten but not the case with this soup. I made it with the garlic and added basil, parsley and thyme. I didn’t find the garlic overwhelming and really enjoyed the texture of this soup as well.

    Yum! Wonderful recipe! It's a toss-up whether creamy tomato soup or creamy broccoli cheddar soup is my favorite; I love both so much (and they're not bad when mixed together!). My favorite grilled/toasted cheese sandwich (I make mine in my toaster oven) is with Swiss and/or gruyere cheese and pesto inside the 12-grain bread slices, and (of course) butter on the outer sides of the slices. A dollop of pesto in tomato soup is yummy, too. Cream cheese and a pinch of nutmeg is another yummy variant of tomato soup.

    This is a great recipe. I was making tomato soup on the day you put this out! I do many of the things you show, except I used olive oil - I saw that you use butter so I tried it - and it is really good! I’ll use butter from here on. Thanks for another lovely video.

Turned out pretty well too. then I went on you tube and there you were making tomatoes soup! 😀 I used v8 juice in lieu of veggie broth but your receipt soungs delicious. I didn't use flour as I am trying out eating gluten free so it wasn't as thick as I like but was tasty. I love your Topps. I will definately be using them the next time. thanks for sharing.

    I made tomatoe soup very similar to this but I used fresh tomatoes picked from my garden. I used whey left over from making yogurt. It worked very well. I used a little pasta water as well. Thought it might curdle a bit but it was great!
    I'll get tomatoes and peppers until the first week of November. These days, I get mostly beans

      @@MarysNest I should have added that my 4 year old can be picky, but she's getting better (we've been working at it). When she first tried it she said she didn’t like it, did I mention she's stubborn too? Then awhile later she asked for some with parmesan cheese, then a while after that she asked for more with crackers.

    Very interesting. I've been looking through cookbooks this morning, specifically for a tomato soup recipe. If I can make a good one, that would effect how many tomato plants I put out next year. Your recipe sounds just right. "But, I also want to can it to have that as a quick convenience. I did once years...... ago, and didn't like ithe taste of that recipe - or was it just the texture? What do you think about canning this one. Basil, allspice (as another viewer suggested), butter and all. Thank you for your work.

      Hi Nancy, I’ve waterbath canned tomatoes but I’ve never canned tomato soup. I suspect it would need to be pressure canned. If so, I think it might turn out OK. Love, Mary

      Hi Maria, you could certainly use milk. I have never tried buttermilk but that might give it a lovely tang. I think it’s definitely worth experimenting with. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️

    It took me a bit to get around to making this, the only things I omitted were the crushed red pepper flakes, as I have a wimpy palette and the carrots. I love this!!!!! I'd just roasted a chicken, and had quite a bit of liquid from that, so I strained it and tossed it in the empty can of san marsano tomatoes. filled it up with chicken broth, and heavens, I'm going to burn my mouth if I don't keep out of it before it's done!! ( why I'm here typing) Thank you for the will do it again recipe!

    To my tomatoe soup I add celery and carrots onions fresh garlic salt. I don’t use bone broth because I don’t consume any blood product or animal fat. I eat only kosher. I use vegetable broth. I like my tomato soup chunky. I also add basil and Italian herbs. And tiny pasta. I also add fresh chopped spinach.

    Hi Mary. Thanks so much for this. Grilled Cheese sandwiches and Tomato Soup are a favorite in our home, so I'm going to start doing this instead of opening canned soup. I do have a question however. I have a LOT of Tomato Powder that I have made from tomato skins that I dehydrated and then powdered. How would I substitute tomato powder in this recipe for the canned tomatoes. BTW, the tomatoes that I skinned were Romas. Thanks Mary.

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  2 года назад

      Hi Chuck, That’s a great question! Yes, you can use tomato powder. I would try 1 tablespoon per 1 cup of liquid. And for this basic recipe, you would want 8 cups of liquid to make 8 servings. If the flavor is two weak, then you could double the amount of tomato powder. But I would start with 1 tablespoon per 1 cup of liquid. Hope this helps. Love, Mary🤗

    Tip: add a bay leaf or two for cooking, but TAKE OUT before pureeing.. And NEVER add the cream to the very hot soup, it might curdle.. take a cup of soup out of pot, let it cool a bit, add cream to THAT, then stir back into pot 😎😉
