Darlin', I'm a 70 yr old woman who has gardened and cooked homemade meals from scratch all my life......and I have NEVER achieved what you have - in the garden or in the kitchen!! WOW - what an inspiration - I can't get enough of watching you - you are adorable, kind, positive, talented, and downright nice. You are also very blessed in so many ways! I am so happy that I have found your channel! Thank you so much for sharing your life with all of us!!

It’s really inspiring to see someone who shows so much of the “real life” side of things. When I watch other RUclipsrs, it can be a disheartening when it seems like they dedicate every waking hour to their home steads. Watching your videos, seeing how you manage to do all this and work full time and have so much going on in your life, makes me feel like this is something I could actually achieve myself one day. Thank you for all the inspiration!!

Here’s an idea for you to try in your roaster one day: caramelize a boatload of onions. I’ve done it in my crockpot for around 10-14 hours. You can then save meal-sized portions for later use - a great start on meal prep!

  • @MaryWehmeier

Becky: Not sure you know but... It is not recommended that you blend your soups in any blender with the center top on. Why? you ask... (I learned this from a professional chef,) You can build up so much pressure inside the container it will blow off the top and spill hot soup everywhere, including on you. So take off the center top, cover it with a couple layers of towel and your hand-- then blend. Your tomato basil bisque looks yummy!

    • @Sazamafarmstead

This is very interesting. Our vitamix actually makes soup hot because it spins so fast lol so 🤷

    • @suziebuckingham9053
      @suziebuckingham9053 3 года назад +12

I think it’s the rule for anything but a Vitamix, so anybody who tries this recipe and has another blender, don’t try this. Also, don’t fill it as full as she did. Or use an immersion blender, even better. Vitamix is in a different category than just blender.

I am from Ontario Canada and I just started watching your videos, when I was younger my dad grew a garden pretty much the same size that you have and I would always be out there with him tending to it, I got married and had my 4 kids and did not have any time to do a garden, now that I am in my 60's and moving to a new town out in the country I am going to build a garden come spring of 2023. I just finished making this soup with tomatoes that were given to me and my oh my, so delicious and so much better then store bought canned stuff, I will be making this more often now that winter in on its way. Thanks so much for all your videos, they are very informative and very helpful :)

I'm not much for these collaborations but I'm working really hard on soups right now. Health issues along with my already difficult lactose intolerance (i.e. no dairy) have brought me to this point. I enjoy watching you cook because you add those tips and tricks that really help me. Anyway, I at least started all 30 videos and was underwhelmed. Crab Bisque??? Weird. The only one I loved was the Dump Soup (a.k.a. Stone or "Garbage"). It was great to see all their refrigerator come out to the cutting board, and they did a good job telling me what order to put things into the pot. I doubt you ever have that much-unloved produce, but it would still be fun to see your version of Stone Soup. These people missed the true heart of soup which is simplicity. Your tomato soup is just that. Basic, whole food, and I'm sure awesome.

Becky love your channel and your enthusiasm is contagious. I like many watchers am on a very tight budget with a very small social security check. While I'd like to buy the vitamix and other items you feature there us mo room in my budget. I love your channel and you make it seem like so much fun to be gardening and cooking. It's not feasible for some of us who are doing good just to get any food from the local grocery store.
Id love to have a freeze drying machine and freeze dry a lot of stuff instead of taking up freezer space but the cost is not in my budget. I'm sure others who love your channel are facing the same problem how to do these things that you teach without the products to do them like the Vitamix, or a freeze drying machine. Could you teach some alternatives to your recipes that dont need these expensive products?
Please keep doing your channel and teaching people because your joy for what you do is needed these days.
For me its a nice deversion from chemotherapy for breast cancer. Thanks for bring joy to a world that can be hard at times.

Looking forward to trying some fig preserves on my grilled cheese in the future. I like adding a little bit of smokeD Gouda to along with other cheese which adds just enough smokiness to it. But one of my favorite grilled cheese had provolone, medium cheddar and a cheese I can’t begin to pronounce or spell. It is caramel color which is a good clue you have found the right one since I have never seen another that color. I found it at Wegmans but I don’t think that store is on the west coast. And the final thing I added was thinly sliced apples. There is a mild caramel flavor to the brown cheese. For me this was a great combo.
Once winter sets in it would be great to have a grilled cheese challenge using any cheeses except American to challenge everyone’s imagination.

I'm from Trinidad in the Caribbean and we think that we're some of the best cooks in the world because we use a lot of seasonings, herbs and spices in our cooking. Let me tell you, you are the first American cook I have seen that makes my heart soar when you cook. You must have Caribbean blood somewhere in you LOL!! I always want to try your food...you are a pleasure to watch. Your channel is real and fyi...I really love when you show us what you think are your imperfections. Don't change a thing because you are wonderful and I'm only slightly more in love with your Mom...she is sooooo adorable. You're a close second, don't worry LOL!!!

Hi Becky, I've never made tomato soup, but this looks so so sooo delicious, I will have to give it a try, even if it's spring time and the days are so much warmer here in Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦
Thanks for sharing, I love watching your videos 😘

Love all this! One tip a chef gave me a while ago: use Mayo instead of butter on the outside of your grilled cheese for even better (and less greasy) toast 😊

Hi Becca and Josh. You help me relive the time in my life when I could garden and preserve some of our food. We travelled around a lot and sometimes had to share garden space. Also grew veggies in my flower beds (and had some airmen help themselves to my tomatoes just before I went to pick them for supper. Oh well, hope they enjoyed them.

The Vitamix makes such a huge difference with tomatoes. Why bother skinning them with the Vitamix? It’s super smooth where the hand blender leaves a chunky skin texture if you don’t remove the skins. I got a Vitamix for christmas this year and was hoping that when tomato season came my suspicion that the skins would be smooth and unnoticeable would be true and it was.

Thank you for the recipes! I just wanted to say after last Sunday seeing this, (yet another one of your delicious videos) I ran down to our Farmers Market and bought 20LBs of overripe tomatoes at a discount. I then followed all your instructions. OMGoodness, the soup was so delicious! I cannot believe the skins and the seeds didn't make the sauce bitter as I have always been taught they would. I even made the grilled cheese sami, but I used smoked mozz and provolone. And it was also delectable.
I made the cowboy candy a couple of weeks ago also.
Another win! Thanks again for sharing your garden, home, and life with all of us. I appreciate it a lot.

Looks great! When I am in a hurry to get fast grilled cheese sandwiches, I put them unbuttered on a plate and microwave for 10-2- seconds just to get cheese warm and almost melty. Then I put each one (still unbuttered) in a small nonstick pan and toast the bread. These come out great for my taste.

new subscriber!!! 🥰 i absolutely love your videos! you match my energy of cooking and i love that! i also love how you take such pride in your homegrown veggies and made-from-scratch recipes! 🤍 one tip i think you would love is to make your butter from scratch! it’s so easy and so much more delicious and healthier than store bought. all you need is some heavy cream and mix it in your kitchen aid (add whatever herbs you want) and then once it separates into chunks, rinse it and smush it together and it’s butter!!
