Man, Lars was seriously on point and disciplined here. Feels as if everything was snapping into the 'grid' of notes.
The sound quality has came a long way with these recorded shows. A lot of the mixes usually don’t have enough high end eq for his kicks to cut thru the mix and they get washed out of the mix. The bump is still there just no beater attack. This show u can hear there is - big boost of high frequencies such as 12k. Love it!

@@RafaelCDet He moves around the beat too much for that, but even if he were, there's nothing wrong with playing to a click, especially when a band has some kind of backing tracks.

They are revitalized right now. Kirk is playing his ass off. Lars is tight and right in the pocket like he hasn’t been in 20 years.
Rob is flying everywhere and James is singing and playing better and stronger than ever.
I heard a little while back that Lars started using a click track again. I don't know if it is true or not, but his drumming has gotten a lot more consistent.
@@lonnyyoung4285 He is and you can really tell the difference. The whole band has the click in their ears.
They actually did it so they can more easily sync video, pyro and lighting cues. But the bigger payoff is Lars is forced to keep metronomic time.
From my own experience as a touring drummer there’s no pride lost in using a click. The tech these days is so outrageous it’s almost impossible to have a full production show without the band being on a click. It’s just how it is now. The best example of this is Rammstein. Their whole show is cued down to a millisecond. Peace.
They are playing some of the best live music ever in their career. They haven't sounded this good live since 89.

If there are any other bands in the same sort of league as The Beatles.... Metallica would be one of those few bands. Many valid reasons why.... influence being a big reason. But pretty sure The Beatles are in a league of their own lol. Metallica is definitely up there with the greatest live bands of all time. They have always put on a great fkn show.

I am astounded that James can play that riff and sing at his age without cheating on the riff or slowing down. And he sounds as sharp now as he has in decades.

A special front man. No one else like him in terms of presence, talent and performance. Not to mention the endurance, stamina and intensity. How about his dedication and passion.... a special front man.

If you actually listen closing under his singing they are technically cheating the riff a tiny bit. Only just barely though.

I recently started playing this song on guitar again. Wow. This is like high performance sports - when you stop actively working for a while, you don't even realize how far you've gotten away from peak shape until you try to get back into it. It's an extremely physical song and really hard to get right in the correct tempo. Merciless tune!
You’re not lying. I don’t play this one but I play fast metal like this, and it’s hard to keep up. Like physically it’s draining, guess working full time doesn’t help.
The rhythmic pattern of this song is akin to a swing pattern the way the gallop pattern is structured. Its a real mindfuck. . ... ... . . - ... ... . . .
It's a demanding song on drums too, cause it barely slows down. The only song that is worse is Fight Fire With Fire, as it is even more tiring.

Same here man, 86 was my yr... 13 yrs old and loving Metallica. They made me give up on the usual that was out there. James riffs is what grabbed me early on as a punk kid... then his lyrics. Metallica intros and James' guitar was what did for me, hooked ever since. Nobody else played his way back then.
No guitarist has written more solos that I love than Kirk Hammett! Legend!

Thats not a stretch either, these days its no joke if you break it all down... take everything band related into the mix and Metallica very well could be the greatest band of all time. Beatles never had the chance to have a long career of turing, not only that... The Beatles... broke up. Its a great discussion. All things considered... Metallica is definitely a candidate of just a few bands. All made, earned and deserved.
I was a sophomore in high school when Master of Puppets came out. The kids in the "back of the bus" were listening to this non-stop. I was a hardcore punker at that point....DK's Subhumans, SNFU, DOA, Descendents etc...suddenly the marriage of metal and thrash occurred to me as really cool. Got really into Metallica and Slayer at this point...Welcome to 1986!

Was awesome to be at this concert and see the young people going crazy. Normally Lollapalooza is softer music but the younger generation were headbanging like crazy when Metallica played this one.
