Yea.. I am sure honda engineers had no idea what they were doing lol.. Leave it stock.

It's very possible Honda engineers designed it like this for reasons other than performance. Noise regs, emissions, cost, etc.

cars and motorcycles are highly restricted due to regulations, making modifications for more air and less restriction on exhaust plus a tune = better performance and more horsepower.

Agreed.most people spend too much time on modifying their bikes rather than riding and learning.

Stock is boring. Folks have been doing modifications for years. Its a cheap bike meant to tinker and play with.

I hope hyperlite/Anker never stops making those air filters, because if they do, your effed.

You're right you can't just clean the air filter 👍

@@Garagehype199You can, but how many times before it disintegrates like every other filter ever made?

And what did this add ? 1/2 a horsepower if that?

It does everything I ask it to and requires less than half the maintenance of other bikes. I keep up with the huskies and KTMs on the hills and technical stuff we ride. 0 complaints so far.

Did this require retuning the ecu map? How did the bike run after this mod? Thinking this would lean it out. Maybe a plug read would provide insight. Great video.

Rode it for the first time yesterday. It gives the bike a lot more pop at the bottom end and is definitely helpful on the hills. Before I might have had to shift down midway through longer hills... This mod seemed to take care of that problem. I didn't use any kind of tuner and was happy with the results, but a tuner may be in the near future.

I know this is a month old, but having more power after the modification tells me you leaned out the mixture beyond what Honda initially intended for the bike to run with. By how much, it's uncertain... There is an easy way to check if you are running TOO lean without pulling the plug (though reading the plug would be best). Simply get the bike up to near redline with some speed in 4th/5th gear and SNAP the throttle shut while coasting, this will force engine braking. A proper mixture, whether fuel injected or carbureted, WILL NOT have ANY popping on engine braking. This is known as a lean-pop or decel-popping. Also pull the baffle/spark arrestor out of the exhaust when doing this test as that arrestor is designed to counteract any decel pop to not start wildfires, put it back in when done testing. These bikes are designed to pass California RIGEROUS emissions bullshit, so my guess is that you made it too lean. Gaining power is typically a side effect from leaning a mixture, is allows the atomization of gas to react quicker and to get a fuller burn, but it makes the top end run WAY hotter as a result, eventually leading to pre-detonation and melted pistons. @@Garagehype199

Let us know the results if you think it runs too lean because I’m really considering this mod. Maybe a ecu tuner would fix it if it is too lean

To each his own! I wanted a bit more pop from the bike to make it easier to throw the front wheel up when hopping obstacles. Its a cheap enough bike that its my play bike that I don't feel bad about tinkering with and throwing down when working on bigger and badder obstacles before attempting with my big boy bike I don't wanna break.
