Mulan is my favorite movie ever. The simple story but highly developed and unique characters, the amazing music and the symbolism in it is perfection. I loved it when I first saw it in 1998 when I was 3, I love it today, and I'll love it always.
I remember watching Tarzan when it came out in theaters- the earliest memory I have of going to the movies. To this day, Tarzan is one of my favorites (though my mom says that I was crying when the drums played really loudly in the theater)
I LOVE Tarzan! It was the very first movie Disney movie (if not the very first movie) I saw in theaters. The music in that movie was so good that I went ten years without watching it and it stuck with me (and I saw Tarzan when I was 3!) Also I LOVE Fantasia 2000. We saw it in music class one day in elementary school but didn't get to finish it so I had to rent it at Blockbuster. But I saw it and LOVED it.
Here's little update Mushu had a song called keep em guessing, and also when they made the story of Mulan they ignored the fact that Mulan joined the army to save her farther. They made it about a girl who was onhappy and only joined to get away from an arranged marriage.
I love Dinosaur 2000, This Movie is one of my favorite dinosaur movie of all time. In the future, I’m going to be a dinosaur film director that would be making a lot of dinosaur movies to make fans feel that they are living with dinosaurs.
Hmm...mute Aladar? That actually sounds like a pretty good idea. I mean, they muted Spirit and the animals in Pocahontas. But if they were muted, it'd feel more like a David Attenborough documentary than an animated movie. Hmm....I dunno. It seems like a 50/50 chance that if they spoke it would either be a huge success or a total bomb...I kinda like how they talk, but it makes the dinos seem so human. MAANN, this is haaard!
Mulan. I have to admit that make a man song is pretty awesome. Tarzan. I loved the music from that movie. Fantasia 2000. My favorite segment was the nature sprite one. Dinosaur. I like that movie but I would have like to seen it as a documentary.
I think I can see the segment comparisons between Fantasia and Fantasia 2000: Toccata & Fugue in D Minor - Beethoven Symphony No.5 (Both are the first segment of their films and are supposedly abstract in design) Nutcracker Suite - Pines of Rome (Both are the second segment of their film, do not necessarily tell a story, and depict something natural in a fantasy environment) Rite of Spring - Rhapsody in Blue (Both are the longest segments of their films and take place within a certain well-known period in history, be it natural or human) The Pastoral Symphony - The Steadfast Tin Soldier (Both involve some kind of folklore or tale) Dance of the Hours - Carnival of the Animals (Both are whimsical and humorous, and involve funny animals) The Sorcerer's Apprentice - Pomp and Circumstance (Both involve classic Disney characters set within an age-old story) Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria - The Firebird Suite (Both are the last segments of their films, involve a contrast such as profanity and sacredness or death and rebirth, are very elegant in design, and, not to mention, are likely the most talked about segments from their films)
And now with "Walking With Dinosaurs" out, we might as well kiss the idea of a non-talking dino film goodbye. I guess film executives really think kids are so stupid that they can't sit through a film where a character doesn't spell everything out for them. And no, I don't think that the lack of silence is because it doesn't work in a feature film. "The Artist" won Best Picture and there was no talking in THAT. Oh, but wait, animation is for KIDS isn't it? Well, I guess we should just halt all creative efforts for kids movies, since they CLEARLY have no intelligence or appreciation of beauty anyway. Disgusting, isn't it?
And at that comment, it's safe to say that Animat was right when he said that people don't take animation seriously and consider it more of a genre than a film medium. :(
ThecompanyofSunshine I hope you realize I was being sarcastic when I said "animation is for kids," thus the caps. Anytime someone says that, I tell them to watch "Princess Mononoké." They probably won't, but I'd love to see their answer to that.
So, how would you react to someone who is an adult, yet only likes children's projects? Someone who just doesn't like adult projects, thinking their only interest is money and fame? Someone who only likes kids' projects because they have all the heart and effort, and because they can help children learn how life works?
Ghostietoastie they should pay attention to Spirit: Stallion of the Cinnamon. That was a great film and apart from the narration, did the horses talk in that?
I LOVED dinosaur cause it combines my two favorite things (Dinosaurs and Disney Movies) And tbh even now I don't mind them talking But "Walking With Dinosaurs" on the other hand,oh dear god why

3:27 I remember the Disney Channel had commercials that focused on how their movies were made. When they interviewed the director, he said that they were inspired by snowboarding.
Mulan was the final movie of the Disney Renaissance that I saw in theaters. The reason I didn't watch Tarzan in theater was because I was more interested in watching the Inspector Gadget movie that was going on at the same time. But I did watch movie surfers on Disney Channel. 1998 was when the first full year of Disney Channel not being premium.
I heard Donny Osmond's children thought he became successful in showbiz when he was involved in a Disney film and Lea Salonga was almost cast as both Mulan's speaking and singing voices but was demoted since her voice was too high to make it convincing when Mulan was pretending to be a man.
Making the animals talk in Disney movie has somehow become a standard. even in the old versions of Bambi, there were almost no dialogues, but they kept changing it like 3 times until they "finally" stuck to the version, we all know today. I love Disney, but I really agree that sometimes it's just better to keep the characters quiet ;/
God I love Mulan and Tarzan! Mulan was so epic and gorgeously animated and Tarzan was sweeping and beautiful. Both films had such lush animation. Glen Keane is my biggest hero , and I love how he was inspired by his son to animate Tarzan's tree moves. The music in Tarzan was great , and had wonderful moments that really get you emotional. It really paved the way as to what could be done for 2D animated films later on.
I think Fantasia 2000 is Disney's first computer animated film because it has a computer animated segments. The backgrounds and characters are computer animated.
@ConcreteSurfer420 Haha I caught that mispronunciation too and laughed; seriously though ElectricDragon-dude, great series of videos, overall. I'm diggin' 'em. But how do the other major Disney animation fields fit into this? Notably Pixar, the animated series of the 80s and onward, and so forth?
Mulan was my favourite movie as a kid, I think I watched it everyday on a copy I'd recorded straight from TV, and now I finnally have a DVD of it *tears of joy*
Mulan was a wonderful heroine because she cared very deeply about her father - so much that this Chinese Joan of Arc dresses up as a man to save him, her family, and her entire country. I think people should be looking up more to these amazing leading ladies because they have regards for anyone's feelings and lives. Mulan is a feisty heroine who breaks stereotypes, like Belle and Merida does, and saves the lives of many.
Let's make a drinking game about how many times Matt would pronounce a name wrong, but by the time you would have reached this video in the playlist, you would've died of alcohol poisoning
Tony Hawk? Nah mate, I was watching the DVD commentary and they said there was an animator working on the movie whose son like to skateboard and that's where the idea came from. He was really adamant to do it but the producers etc were skeptical until he showed them a test animation of it.
Spyder Soup Walking with dinosaurs sucked agree again ruined by crap dialogue and were Dinosaurs at least had somewhat decent voices and dialogue this had none i quickly put it on mute
One thing I will say about Fantasia 2000, I didn’t know who Itszak Perlman was when it came out (probably cuz I was a kid). Having seen Schindler’s List now and putting the pieces together, I’m in awe on how they got him to be a guest speaker. He may not be that big, but anyone who had anything to do with Schindler’s List I’m not worthy to kiss their feet.
I loved Fantasia 2000, but it REALLY could have done without the celebrity cameos. They made the movie seem INCREDIBLY dated and cheesy. I mean Itzhak Perlman, Quincy Jones and Angela Lansbury were pretty well chosen, but Steve Martin, Bette Midler, James Earle Jones and Penn and Teller? If they wanted to have more than one announcer, that's fine but they really should have hired experts of each Musical piece.
And by the way, Fantasia 2000 was released in December 1999, im not kidding its just like when a sports game from Electronic Arts is named after a year, then they're always made a year behind.
Not for long, FANTASIA will continue. HENRY ZHININ PICTURES AND WALT DISNEY PICTURES In Associate with UNIVERSAL PICTURES PRESENTS FANTASIA 2050 990 Years later, FANTASIA 3000 the last animated feature film.
**Notice Mulan's jaw structure when she's a "woman". Check out her jaw when she's a "man" and you can defintely tell they changed it; they sharpened and defined the bone. I actually never noticed that until....like a week ago? And I'm seventeen and grew up with Disney movies.
I will comment on these movies in order from what I like most to what I like least. Tarzan: When Tarzan is still a child, I find him to be very cute and likable. I will also admit the jungle is beautiful to look at. Mulan: I like how Mulan is capable of independence, and when it comes to Eddie Murphy, I actually prefer Mushu over Donkey. But my favorite character in that movie is actually the cute little bug Crickie. Dinosaur: I actually like the decision to have talking dinosaurs, but I think the problem everyone else has is the lip-syncing. Maybe if there was no lip-syncing, people would see the dialogue as what the dinosaurs were "thinking", not what they were "saying". I could be wrong, but I can't help thinking that without lip-sync, the dialogue in Dinosaur would be better appreciated. Fantasia 2000: My problem with this project is exactly the same as the first Fantasia: no dialogue. Like the first Fantasia, there are no voice actors at all in Fantasia 2000. Once again, I find myself wishing that the characters would speak up. However, while the first Fantasia thankfully stayed all hand-drawn animated, Fantasia 2000 dealt with more computer animation than I like to see. I know Fantasia is about making animation look like art, and that was the reason for why Disney included computer animation for 2000, but the truth is, I like drawing animation much more than computer animation. Needless to say, while I am troubled by the first Fantasia, I do admit it is better than Fantasia 2000.
@Hewylewis Mhm. Naw.I haven't seen Land Before Time in a LONG time but I remember that it was more geared toward children; find your inner bravery, friendship, the cycle of life and death. Dinosaurs was a visual feast I felt like I was watching an Attenborough dino doc. The movie DID had life/death but wasn't as emotional/ moral as LBT ...but they weren't exactly alike. But I can defintely see why you find them similar. Dinosaurs was defintely aimed at a higher age group. Both dark movies though
Mulan is also nice film to look at with all the ancient Chinese scenery. The character voices are good too. Eddie Murphy does a good job as Mushu. Too bad he didn't voice him in the sequel. And yet the sequel is both inconsistent and absent-minded. Aside from that though, the first theatrical film really captures the true beauty of Asia.
i can´t understand why "Dinosaur" is considerate a disney classic and "Mary Poppins" not, can anyone explain me? Sorry for my AWFUL english, i´m trying to improve it
:3 disney's Dinosaur MUST be a KH world one day they're already catching up to modern disney movies since they've done lilo and stitch. i remember being a little kid in the theatre with my mind blown as i would watch the terridactle fly with Aladar's Egg
At least the voices in Dinosaur are actually a good change to it. Not great. Just good. And it happened early on. Unlike walking with Dinosaurs which was last minute.
Mulan is my favorite movie ever. The simple story but highly developed and unique characters, the amazing music and the symbolism in it is perfection. I loved it when I first saw it in 1998 when I was 3, I love it today, and I'll love it always.
Yeah, well, the Direct to Video sequel is (What's the word I'm looking for?) absent-minded. It dumps on its predissessor in a few ways.
I remember watching Tarzan when it came out in theaters- the earliest memory I have of going to the movies. To this day, Tarzan is one of my favorites (though my mom says that I was crying when the drums played really loudly in the theater)
Rae Avon I remember too
Especially the McDonald's Toys
So Georgette, Mufasa, and Mrs. Potts narrated segments of Fantasia 2000...
Or Winifred Sanderson, Darth Vader and Eglantine Price.
9:16 same thing happened with Walking with Dinosaurs
Timon as a stuffed decoration at 2:14 like he said in part 9
2:50 to 3:00
No wonder it was so well done.
Thank you again Little Sister!
Tarzan was my fave, i loved how he ran in the trees and stuff!
I LOVE Tarzan! It was the very first movie Disney movie (if not the very first movie) I saw in theaters. The music in that movie was so good that I went ten years without watching it and it stuck with me (and I saw Tarzan when I was 3!) Also I LOVE Fantasia 2000. yotsubafanfan me too
My only memory of Fantasia 2000 was in music class but i didn't really see it and never have but that memory is there
I actually think that the scenes in Tangled with Rapunzel's parents conveyed a much more heartfelt story without dialogue.
What are you talking about?
Here's little update Mushu had a song called keep em guessing, and also when they made the story of Mulan they ignored the fact that Mulan joined the army to save her farther.
They made it about a girl who was onhappy and only joined to get away from an arranged marriage.
What is with pretty much all animated dinosaur movies originally intending to be without dialogue and instead having dialogue put into them?
+Miles Bockelman For the kiddies.
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVED Dinosaur when I was a kid. it blew my mind when I was little.
Mine as well
Dinosaur is very cool. The film had live action backgrounds.
I remember an advertisement for Fantasia 2000 in the Mulan VHS I had. I really loved that film, especially The Firebird suite and Rapsody in Blue.
I love Dinosaur 2000, This Movie is one of my favorite dinosaur movie of all time.
In the future, I’m going to be a dinosaur film director that would be making a lot of dinosaur movies to make fans feel that they are living with dinosaurs.
Land Before Time 75 sounds gay
Hmm...mute Aladar? That actually sounds like a pretty good idea. I mean, they muted Spirit and the animals in Pocahontas. Mulan was one of the first movies I remember seeing in the movie theaters! It holds such a special place in my heart
Dinosaur is one of my favourite Disney movies
7:00 agree it's my favourite too carnival of the animals finale along with pomp and circumstance
Dinosaur is one of my favorite Disney films of all time
I think I can see the segment comparisons between Fantasia and Fantasia 2000:
Toccata & Fugue in D Minor - Beethoven Symphony No.5 (Both are the first segment of their films and are supposedly abstract in design)
Nutcracker Suite - Pines of Rome (Both are the second segment of their film, do not necessarily tell a story, and depict something natural in a fantasy environment)
Rite of Spring - Rhapsody in Blue (Both are the longest segments of their films and take place within a certain well-known period in history, be it natural or human)
The Pastoral Symphony - The Steadfast Tin Soldier (Both involve some kind of folklore or tale)
Dance of the Hours - Carnival of the Animals (Both are whimsical and humorous, and involve funny animals)
The Sorcerer's Apprentice - Pomp and Circumstance (Both involve classic Disney characters set within an age-old story)
Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria - The Firebird Suite (Both are the last segments of their films, involve a contrast such as profanity and sacredness or death and rebirth, are very elegant in design, and, not to mention, are likely the most talked about segments from their films)

What I love about dinosaur is the fact that they didn't base the movie on the most popular dinosaurs, like trex and triceratops.
The very first AniMat video I have ever seen. Saw the rest of his work, and the rest is history.
8:58-9:21 True Story
Tarzan was the first film I saw in the cinema, I was only 3
When I saw The Tigger Movie, I saw the Movie Poster of Dinosaur, then I saw the Trailer of the movie, when I had Tarzan in VHS

10:03 That's nothing you should watch my POV (and brief history) video on The Twilight Zone Tower Of Terror (I ride the DCA version).
7:51 Then the entire thing was reborn by a Sprite-THE CREATURE!
Tony Hawk? Nah mate, I was watching the DVD commentary and they said there was an animator working on the movie whose son like to skateboard and that's where the idea came from. He was really adamant to do it but the producers etc were skeptical until he showed them a test animation of it.
dinosaur was my first movie in the theatre ever!
omg it depressed me so much that dinosaur was supposed to be silent and thay fucked it up why why omg it could have been amazing

Walking with dinosaurs sucked agree again ruined by crap dialogue and were Dinosaurs at least had somewhat decent voices and dialogue this had none i quickly put it on mute

I don't care that I'm 16 years old and saying this: The Dinosaur ride at Animal Kingdom is scary as fuck. O.o
The Lion King is my Favorite Disney movie of all time.
I have a faint memory of going to see Fantasia 2000 in a fancy Imax theater at midnight... I was very young though and I fell asleep :(
I loved Fantasia 2000, but it REALLY could have done without the celebrity cameos. They made the movie seem INCREDIBLY dated and cheesy. Say, I think that Dinosaur was the first computer film made by Disney Animation studios.
Its easy to think that. However, the backgrounds in Dinosaur were filmed with a camera and the characters were computer animated
Dinosaurs is my second favort Disney movie.
give me walking with monster/dinosaur/beast any day

I love mulan so much!
Lol at 2:10
Next, Pumbaa will be cooked and eaten during the dinner in Brave.
lololol Eisner you silly goose
Tarzan and Mulan awww i love those movies and the songs are EPIC I can say lets get down ot business to anyone my age and they recite the rest!!!
ha it's hilarious
Animat: But don't leave now
then, ads appear after that
Me: sorry the ads interrupted me and I left the video lol.
Mulan is also nice film to look at with all the ancient Chinese scenery. The character voices are good too. Eddie Murphy does a good job as Mushu. Too bad he didn't voice him in the sequel. And yet the sequel is both inconsistent and absent-minded. Aside from that though, the first theatrical film really captures the true beauty of Asia.
and people say dreamworks want money.. but hey, i liked dinosaur when i was little and it didn't bother me that they talked
I remember when I first saw the trailer for Tarzan and I sade.
I have see this.
i can´t understand why "Dinosaur" is considerate a disney classic and "Mary Poppins" not, can anyone explain me?
Sorry for my AWFUL english, i´m trying to improve it
My dad never was into Tarzan and didn't want to watch it when it was on TV once for the sole reason that he hates Phil Collins.
Huh.
My parents saw Fantasia 2000 in IMAX
Mine too!!
Fantasia 2000 is a hideously underrated film and I think more people should watch it, but then again, I _am_ slightly biased.
:3 disney's Dinosaur MUST be a KH world one day they're already catching up to modern disney movies since they've done lilo and stitch. i remember being a little kid in the theatre with my mind blown as i would watch the terridactle fly with Aladar's Egg
When I was a kid, Dinosaur freaked me out, thinking it was scary.
I still think it's scary.
At least the voices in Dinosaur are actually a good change to it. Not great. Just good. And it happened early on. Unlike walking with Dinosaurs which was last minute.
@Hewylewis And water is wet and ice is cold!
Mulan is the best!
