The fact they brought back characters from underatted Disney films such as Dinosaur, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet and even Brother Bear bring a tear to my eye.
@@aryshandono3249, they forgot to include Madeline though. Keep in mind that Disney has the Madeline TV series & the 1999 Lost in Paris movie under their belt.
The fact they didn't just bring back their most famous/recognizable characters, but also characters from underrated/niche films like Atlanis the Lost Empire and Treasure Planet is honestly so touching. Kudos to everyone who worked on this short, and everyone who ever worked for Disney in general :)
@@VJK102 at around 7:39 on the left side in the very back, you can see The Horned King, princess Eilonwy, Taran, Gurgi and potentially other characters from the Black Cauldron. I'm guessing they didn't get a major appearance because Disney wants to kinda forget that movie, but even still they made an effort to include them in the photo
Mickey's little "after you" to Oswald was such a nice touch. Walt never got his rabbit back in his lifetime, but the studio did eventually bring him home
I love how Prince Charming yells at Eric to get his dog, it really like embraces the idea that was I believe generally created by the fandom that all the Disney princesses/princes all are in the same universe and like all the princes are bro friends
In a way, even though it wasn't intended as such, this feels like a final goodbye to classic Disney. One thing that makes this short especially poignant is that the last animator who had worked for the company since the days of Walt himself, Burny Mattinson, is the man appearing in the begining of the short, and he passed away before the release of it (and it was dedicated to his memory). Also, when the music "Feed the birds" play in the background as Mickey is talking to Walt, that music is actually being played in a new recording by the original composer Richard Sherman, who used to play that song privately for Walt when he requested it (Walt would often start tearing up when he did, and Sherman believes that Walt took the phrase "feed the birds" to really mean "spread love and kindness"). When being recorded for this short the song was even played by Sherman on the same piano and in the same room that he used to play it for Walt in. So when in addition to everything else that is in this short film that summarizes the Disney of the decades gone by, it also contains Richard Sherman playing Feed the Birds to Walt for one final time, it really feels, intentional or not, like a final loving farewell from classic Disney, and for all of us to say our loving farewell in return. EDIT: And so, on may 25 2024, Richard Sherman passed away at age 95. Rest in peace and thank you for the memories. Now you can play your song for Walt in person as many times as the two of you like, for all of time.
It's not intentional, but I felt the same thing: not a celebration, but a funeral of Disney. If people are so naive to think that this short is indicative of a comeback of creativity and art at Disney, they'll be sorely disappointed. It's well executed nostalgia baiting.
Disney had their downs before, with the 1940s, 1970s-1980s, and the 2000s. This era is no exception. And Disney has always found a way to bounce back. They will persevere.
@@Binfield1994 I agree with both ideas. This short is undoubtedly a funeral, but maybe... just maybe... that's a good thing. For a while now, Disney has been using nostalgia to put butts in theater seats, without making anything truly special. The Disney we all know has gotten old, and hasn't been doing any good for itself. It can't. Nobody is immortal, and... maybe it's about time they let it die. Do I love the old Disney? Of course! And that's just why. I can't bear to watch as each day it suffers more and more. What I'm trying to say is that the optimist in me sees this as a funeral for the old stuff that has run its course. Maybe the Disney company will remember how to make original ideas, that are just as special.
@@Binfield1994well they've done it before because they were THE animation company. Nowadays there is numerous competition that overthrows Disney. Wouldn't count on it if I were you.
After the awful year Disney has had, this was genuinely sweet seeing everyone from every animated movie they’ve made. And they kept the 2d animated characters, 2d animated; not just redesigned with cgi. I love that. Please go back to 2d animation Disney. We all miss it
@@gene1735 could be because most of what Disney made in 2023 didn’t succeed and this is the only positive thing that besides the Mickey Mouse 2013 shorts that they did
I'm impressed by not only how the characters are 2D hand drawn, but how their originating line styles, like in comparison from Merlin's rough lines to the March Hare's clean lines, are also implemented.
Something about Jimmy Cricket singing in his original voice at 7:26 just brings tears to my eyes. Im not even a fan if Pinocchio or its characters, but to hear classic disney being sung in that magical way just sends a rush of nostalgia over me..
In my personal opinion, this is possibly the greatest thing Disney has created in a while. Not only it brought back our beloved classics but also underrated ones. Not to mention, bringing back the one character who in a way started it all: Oswald the Luck Rabbit
The sad reality is you're right. If only Disney put this much care and love into their regular work. Celebrating the legacy like this is beautiful but rings hollow when you look at the company as is these days in recent years. But to still have the talent to make this happen, shows the bones of greatness are still there. They've touched so many lives over the years. Which is why I hope Disney is does better. We can hope. Otherwise it's just milking nostalgia. Didn't see any live action CGI Lion King remake characters front and center, for example... They really should go back to 2D.
@@forgethought8174I think they worked really hard to get this right mostly because if they redid all the old 2D characters in CGI everyone would go nuts because they would feel like they are desecrating history. I am not saying they won't do anything good again, but also, they couldn't get this wrong.
It was archived audio from the original actor that played Jiminy. A sad tale in and of himself, but I like to think that his legacy in that movie and his singing will give him solace. Cliff Edwards.
Disney, PLEASE pay attention! Everyone LOVES this short! It's a genuine return to form and there isn't a person I know that isn't in love with this. Please make your way back to stories like this one. It's as classic Disney as it gets.
I rarely cry but watching this made me bawl my eyes out. I’m a full grown man that was raised by Disney and this just made me remember my childhood. Sitting on my couch and watching vhs tapes. Remembering all of the innocent, good times I had growing up, especially with my now passed grandma. Thank you to everyone at Disney for giving me those precious memories. I’ll make sure to never forget it.
The moment between Walt and Mickey really caught me off guard, in the best way. This is the most respect paid to Walt’s vision for Disney entertainment in a long time. Glad the current management and staff were able to put Walt and the fans first for a change as well as giving many of the legends that built Disney a moment to shine. Well done and may Walt’s vision guide the next 100 years and bring back the joy and hope he saw in America and the families who live here.
For the first time in decades, I felt something special and magical in Disney's animation again. After wishing nothing but 2d animation for once more, this was more than enough to move me to tears. Seeing Treasure planet here literally made my Jaw dropped.
Exactly, this had the classic Disney vibes that modern movies hasn't. The magic, the childhood naive magic... I don't know, perhaps it's just nostalgia hahha
Partly it’s the nostalgia talking of course, but seeing Robin Hood, Treasure planet and many others made me relive the excitement and joy I had watching those movies.
I was expecting this short to be very cheesy, but getting to see all the characters grouped together and interacting in such a natural way works really well. I'm also glad that they didn't only feature the most recognizable characters and call it a day. That makes it feel like a true celebration. This is a fantastic and perfect tribute in every way. 10/10 would make 100 years of magic again.
It’s even more touching when you know that Mickey Mouse was based off a tame mouse Walt had. So this scene is even more ‘personal’ to Mickey than it might seem.
4:32 This. THIS is what Disney Animation is about. Bringing magic, warmth, tears, emotions. The nostalgia I got from seeing all my favorite characters again hit me like a train.
This short is the best thing to come out of the entire 100th anniversary. Not only does Disney finally give the people 2D (albeit not a full return), but it also acts as a perfect tribute to Disney and Disney fans. Everyone at some point has seen something Disney-related and (likely) fell in love with one of the series in the short. Chances are, there will definitely be something for everyone to say "Look! It's 'this character'!" It was also a pleasant surprise to hear some actors like Clarence Nash (who was Donald's voice for a brief second) and Robin Williams (as Genie via cut lines) have some spotlight. Heck, it was also surprising to hear other choices like Chris Diamantopoulos (who was the Paul Rudish Mickey) and Alan Tudyk (who based King Candy’s voice off of Mad Hatter).
What's odd is that Tudyk should have said those lines in a lower pitch, which would have more faithfully represented Ed Wynn's representation of the original Mad Hatter.
The nostalgia, the joy, the sorrow, the first moment when I saw a character and went "Hey I know you! And I know you! I know you too! I know all of you!" like my inner child comes out again. Thank you all the loveable characters and those who made these characters come to live visually and aurally, for all the precious memories. For those who don't know, the guy to the right when the employees leave the building at the beginning is Burny Mattinson (the Burny the end of the credits referred to), who worked for the Walt Disney Company for 70 years as an animator, director, producer, and story artist. He was their longest-serving employee who passed in February 2023, so it was fitting that he was the one to be the last to leave. He began working as an in-betweener animator on Lady and the Tramp. His final role was a story artist for Wish. The directors really wanted to include Chernabog in the short but couldn’t figure out how to get him in the building, because he’s canonically the size of a mountain. That’s why he’s on the TV, sort of a compromise. And the reason Feed the Birds is playing while Mickey looks at Walt's portrait is because that was Walt's favorite song. And that's Richard Sherman playing the piano, who of course worked on the original song with his brother. He was brought back to do it for Once Upon a Studio in August 2022, visiting Walt's office and playing the same piano he played for him. He said, "It’s very nice to be back in Walt’s office. It’s just the way it was when I was much younger and Walt was here; piano’s the same. Walt’s not here, but his spirit’s here".
It brings me to tears but happy ones. It's like you said it bring out our inner child who when you first saw these characters for the first time and then getting to see them again all with other characters throughout the years of Disney Animation films and shorts. I know I'll cherish it for as long as I live.
2023 has been Disney's roughest year when it came to beating the box office and being a family entertainment brand, but *this.* This short is beautiful and a worthy celebration of everything the company has accomplished all these years and decades. Thanks, Walt.
They deserved every bit of box office hate they got, and this short deserves all the love it's getting. There's an important lesson here Walt would see but Iger either can't or won't.

@@maxwellthehedgehog6273 They actually want a movie like Wish, a classic streamlined tale, but also want the portal scene from Endgame. Which is a paradoxical impossibility to do in any one project. Fact of the matter is, these unhappy people will never be happy with anything made.
It should not be difficult to find genuinely talented people to write original and very creative animated film properties like we had twice in the last decade with Zootopia and Encanto. Because I have nothing against computer animation itself, but like you, I also want Walt Disney Animation Studios to make 2D animated films like Eric Goldberg wants to do again going forward so Walt Disney Animation Studios will still have something to differentiate itself from Pixar Animation Studios.

That’s GREAT work!! 😮❤❤ I hope the two directors get recognized 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼😋🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I just want to back up my own opinion, the ENTIRE Studio has been credited by the directors. In all honesty, If Possible… the ENTIRE studio on this project deserves recognition!!
4:35 I cried when Mickey looked at a photo of Walt, the founder of Disney Studios, and took off his hat in tribute to his good old buddy. It was so touching... I also liked the interactions of all the characters with each other, despite the fact that many of them are 3D models and others are 2D. Instantly reeks of that old Disney classic. This short video celebration is the best thing Disney has ever produced in its entire century.
As someone who grew up watching Peter Pan, that shot of Peter and the kids flying up the stairs brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful to see those classic moves done in 3D space like that.
why couldn't they make this a 2 hour movie. with all this rich history and you talking about 80 years. its hard to put 80 years of animation into 10 minutes.
I love how Disney acknowledged many of their lesser-known characters. The part with Mickey talking with Walt Disney was so heartwarming, that I almost shed a few tears. To everyone who worked on this project, thank you for your hard and dedicated work.
Fun fact: This short was suppose to be shown in front of Disney's wish, But it was scrapped after it's premiering on ABC and it's streaming on Disney plus the next day after. And between you and me, I was disappointed that they didn't put Disney's once upon a studio in front of wish. Speaking of which, I saw it and I thought it was a Good disney movie.
They even remembered movies like Oliver and Company, The Detective Mouse, The Black Cauldron... movies that are generally forgot, but they kept a little space for them 😢❤
That rumor of linguist explorer Milo Thatch of Atlantis riding with teen space rebel Jim Hawkins together on his solar sailor was to happen, but I guess they didn’t do it.
I can only imagine what the writing process of this short film looked like. The writers had to watch 50-60 films, pin moments they thought were special, imagine how characters from different films would interact with each other and somehow condense it into an 8-minute segment. It's truly a masterpiece.
Don’t forget! They also had to replicate other styles. With the 3D animation, it’s a litter easier, but with the older 2D films, it can be a bit harder. That just shows that they got the people who actually care about Disney to work on this short.
There is no way to describe what I'm seeing here. Walt Disney, even though lets be honest the business hasn't been where it once was, this short film proves you guys still have a little magic left in you. To bring together every Disney character in history in one short film is unreal. You guys did a fantastic job. Hope going forward things will turn around for you all. Happy 100 years Walt Disney!

4:31 It’s both sad and heartwarming, in a symbolic way, because Walt Disney can never leave his picture frame, leaving it to Mickey and everyone else to carry on his memories and the legacy he gave us. In a way, so long as Mickey lives on, so will Walt Disney's memories, and he lives on. 7:49 Imagine yourself working at Disney, and you find that group photo on your desk. And you take the photo home with you, thinking and dreaming that maybe the characters would come to life and hang with you. Because they’re not just characters you grew up, watching on TV, to later animating them to life. But they’re also your dearest lifelong friends.

The ending of the Mickey Mouse Club TV series went, "Now it's time to say goodbye to all our company. M I C, see ya real soon! K E Y, why? Because we like you! M O U S Eeeeee!"
The Walt Disney scene hit me emotionally. Without him, this company, Mickey, Minnie, Tarzan, Wreck it Ralph, Anna and Elsa, Donald Duck, Goofy, and all the rest would not exist. Thank you for these 100 amazing years!
It hit me when they included a few notes from the Mary Poppins song "Feed the Birds" Songwriters Richard and Robert Sherman have stated this was Walt's favorite song, and would ask them to play it for him. Very moving.
Me too and for that to truly happen is to let go of the current White-Collars Bob Iger and Kathleen Kennedy and replace them with someone with Conservative and Libertarian Values who can restore Disney to it’s rightful place.
@@tymotekaitis3872 Here's a thought... maybe don't have any kind of agenda at all. Conservative, Liberal, Right, Left... leave that stuff behind and just entertain.
I couldn’t agree more but same time in case you haven’t noticed Disney has gone from being neutral to becoming Far-Left one side and shoving politics down peoples throats(hence Progressives running it into the ground) which is why Disney needs a new Conservative/Libertarian CEO who can restore Disney and make it apolitical and entertaining again while being middle ground so that way to bring back it’s audience and customers of both aisles and the middle instead of driving them away while keeping our views to ourselves just like Stan Lee knew how to especially in this ever changing planet!
As much as I love to agree with you I think you need to take the Red Pill and wake up to Disney now being overtaken by Toxic Far-Left Progressives driving it into the ground that have Walt Disney, Stan Lee and all their fellow co-creators rolling in their graves hence why Disney needs a new Conservatarian CEO who make the company entertaining and apolitical again(Censor me all you want RUclips it’s a Free Country not Mao’s Communist 🇨🇳)

In a way, seeing all the characters (classics and modern) together at the same time and place is like the ultimate escapism, which we can’t find anywhere else in any Disney Parks. We’re not just seeing characters who are “long lost,” meet and greet, taking photos, etc. But we’re seeing memories of a century all at once.

Some details made me so happy, emotional, nostalgic and what not - 1. There were so many people in the crowd who could've easily lifted goofy, but fairy godmother was one of those classics who nobody could replace, her small flick of wand was such a powerful memory ❤ 2. The change of roles btw cindrella and prince charming in the staircase is so wholesome 🥺 3. Pulling pooh out of the frame bcoz he got stuck....... as always 😂 4. Elsa protecting Anna.... again 💕 5. Rapunzel with the pan 😅 6. Donald getting irritated.... such a classic 🤣 7. Raya at the front door, guiding everyone the same way as she guided all the kingdoms into one 💜 8. Villians getting irritated by the musical ..... i mean that's the reaction we expected 😂 9. Baymax trying to fit into small spacess, so cutee 🤩 10. Bruno hiding just like he did in his family 😔 11. Rafiki lifting the camera like he lifted Simba 🥺 12. Mickey and Walt's scene, when mickey said "ON WITH THE SHOW". So many ups and downs, and the company kept going, the beauty and power of the line is impeccable ❤ 13. And my favorite was Snow White, the oldest disney star (by release date, not age) inviting the newest disney star, Asha, to the family. The detail is soo finneeee 🔥
Not all the villains, just Hades! 😂 And I love how they had Quasimoto be on top of the building because of course he would climb up there! Oh, and The Rescuers talking with the Bigs? So cute!! ☺
At elevator scene, 'Same Old Flashy' as ALWAYS!! No matter where he is; in his world (Zootopia Movie) or in our real world, HE JUST 100% NEVER FAILED TO CRACK US UP!! Donald Duck's (unsurprisingly) annoyed expression and grumbling at his literal slowness just made it EVEN BETTER AND FUNNIER!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The way they kept the 2D characters 2D is just exceptional. Now I think I have to rewatch a bunch of disney films because all these characters are making me feel nostalgic.
Disney has had a rough year and they deserve it but this animation had so much love put into it, even acknowledging the forgotten and underrated works.
4:16 this moment made me way happier than it should have, there's just something so pure about the idea of Cindy, Ariel, and their respective princesses all being friends. Also "Go Max, Go!" That was too cute 🥹
Ikr? It's heartwarming to see that. I kinda wouldn't mind seeing a little show or movie where the original princesses like them interacted with each other. Like just the "original" ones and their princes. But thats just me lol
The detail that always gets me is the fact that when Mickey looks at Walt’s picture, the notes of “feed the birds” can be recognised in the background, as it was his favourite song
This Christmas, I just want an announcement of a 2D movie... if it will happen. Edit: wow never reached 1k in likes Edit 2: Christmas has passed but there is still hope... right?
When they put all the Disney characters together (even the villains) together was incredible. I love that even though they’re all different types of animation…Disney still put them together…it’s truly a work of art. This should be a full-on Disney movie with every character. ♥️♥️♥️
My favorite moments: Robin and Little John catching the money, Elliot flying with Cody, Peter and the Darlings flying to gather everyone, Joanna trying to eat Gus and Jacque, Moanna and Rapunzel trying to help characters that have come before them, "Feed the Birds" for Mickey and Walt, and all of them singing together at end. It's so hard to choose, though!
That they combined 3d and 2d in this short was quite spectacular, it makes me nostalgic for what disney has brought us these years, this short completely helped the 100th anniversary, this was a best christmas gift
The characters in the Zooptoia and Sing franchises briefly cross paths with humans in Ralph Breaks the Internet, Once Upon a Studio and the cinema promo for The Super Mario Bros. Movie but they don’t interact with the humans for unknown reasons.
As a Disney child, I can not express how this video make me happy and brought tears to my eyes at the same time. 100 years ago, Disney was just a surname like any other but now it means a safe place for every human being on Earth for whom wants to make the world a better place. When You Wish Upon A Star is not just a song, it's a source of inspiration and story of Walt Disney's greatest imagination. RIP the best animator so far. Thank you for everything.
All the different art styles. All the voice acting. All the different callbacks. Story telling through interactions. There was more love, passion and respect for the Walt Disney name in this 9 minute video than all of Wish. This is the Disney I grew up with. This is the Disney I remember. This is the Disney I miss.
My favorite moments of this short: 1. Never before heard quotes of Robin Williams as Genie 2. Baymax entering the elevator 3. Splat having a crush on Ursula 4. Wreck-It Ralph calling Mickey Mouse Garfield

I respect your opinion, but I do have to disagree. The “Wish” movie was absolutely amazing, and it shows no matter how hard you try, you will always find a way to figure out to have your own wish, and make it happen. That and the fact they brought in a choir again for the first time in decades, even if it's just a short. Something they've not done since Lady and the Tramp (Frozen doesn't quite count, it being a unison men's chorus)
Feed the Birds was Walt's favorite song. He would ask Richard Sherman to come over and play it for him when he was having a hard time. (source: Julie Andrews autobiography)
Been a long time since Disney almost made me tear up like this. You can really feel the heart in this one. Not gonna lie, hearing Genie again was almost enough to get the water flowing. Rest in Peace Robin Williams. Seeing that they were able to do some classic style animation like this does give me a little hope that maybe they haven't given up on it completely.

My thoughts exactly. I cried.
@@Binfield1994well they've done it before because they were THE animation company. Nowadays there is numerous competition that overthrows Disney. Wouldn't count on it if I were you.

It's 'this character'!"
It was also a pleasant surprise to hear some actors like Clarence Nash (who was Donald's voice for a brief second) and Robin Williams (as Genie via cut lines) have some spotlight. Heck, it was also surprising to hear other choices like Chris Diamantopoulos (who was the Paul Rudish Mickey) and Alan Tudyk (who based King Candy’s voice off of Mad Hatter).
Agree completely 💯
There were 2D shorts in the last two years. Three for Goofy and one original on Disney+ in 2021, and one for Oswald in 2022.
You’re welcome 😉

The ending of the Mickey Mouse Club TV series went,
"Now it's time to say goodbye to all our company.
@jillianmatson3895 yes Baymax as well
It hit me when they included a few notes from the Mary Poppins song "Feed the Birds" Songwriters Richard and Robert Sherman have stated this was Walt's favorite song, and would ask them to play it for him. Very moving.

They should have just made this into a full on movie of its own
This goes to show that Disney still has magic. They just need to return to their roots. I hope and pray they make a comeback.

Also, Fun fact: (just between the 2 of us) This short was supposed to be shown in front of Disney's wish. but it was scrapped the last minute after it's premiere on ABC and it's streaming on Disney plus the next day.
4:31 This is actually my favorite part of the short. Mickey talking to Walt Disney, the man who made all of this possible. Thank you Walt for everything. 🥲
best part? that music in the background is "feed the birds" from mary poppins. it was walt's favorite song and he would often ask the richard sherman (who wrote the song) to come over and play it for him

Some details made me so happy, emotional, nostalgic and what not -
1. There were so many people in the crowd who could've easily lifted goofy, but fairy godmother was one of those classics who nobody could replace, her small flick of wand was such a powerful memory ❤
2. The change of roles btw cindrella and prince charming in the staircase is so wholesome 🥺
3. Pulling pooh out of the frame bcoz he got stuck....... as always 😂
4. Elsa protecting Anna.... again 💕
5. Rapunzel with the pan 😅
6. Donald getting irritated.... such a classic 🤣
7. Raya at the front door, guiding everyone the same way as she guided all the kingdoms into one 💜
8. Villians getting irritated by the musical ..... i mean that's the reaction we expected 😂
9. Baymax trying to fit into small spacess, so cutee 🤩
10. Bruno hiding just like he did in his family 😔
11. Rafiki lifting the camera like he lifted Simba 🥺
12. Mickey and Walt's scene, when mickey said "ON WITH THE SHOW". So many ups and downs, and the company kept going, the beauty and power of the line is impeccable ❤
13. And my favorite was Snow White, the oldest disney star (by release date, not age) inviting the newest disney star, Asha, to the family. The detail is soo finneeee 🔥
Not all the villains, just Hades! 😂
And I love how they had Quasimoto be on top of the building because of course he would climb up there!

Who knows buddy? Maybe someday it might happen and maybe they’ll even put Pixar characters in it too.
No Song of the South characters though...

Robin and Little John catching the money, Elliot flying with Cody, Peter and the Darlings flying to gather everyone, Joanna trying to eat Gus and Jacque, Moanna and Rapunzel trying to help characters that have come before them, "Feed the Birds" for Mickey and Walt, and all of them singing together at end. The characters in the Zooptoia and Sing franchises briefly cross paths with humans in Ralph Breaks the Internet, Once Upon a Studio and the cinema promo for The Super Mario Bros. Movie but they don’t interact with the humans for unknown reasons.
