This is gonna sound weird, but the thing that made me smile the most about this short was Mickey saying "After you," during Oswald's appearance. Acknowledging how Oswald was the first successful character of the studio and how his creation directly correlates to Mickey just makes me so happy.
By sheer coincidence, I was in Disneyland recently and we decided to meet Mickey himself. During the extremely long waiting time, I was wondering what I should say to him. Then I decided to greet him like an old friend and asked "How's Oswald?". He enthusiastically gave me a thumbs up, it honestly made my day.
Same with Treasure Planet. Granted I found Treasure Planet to be criminally underrated, but I’m surprised that they decided to have Jim Hawkins make a cameo.
Fun fact: the directors really wanted to include Chernabog in the short, but couldn’t figure out how to get him in the building, because he’s canonically the size of a mountain. That’s why he’s on the tv, sort of a compromise
I get why a bunch of larger characters had to be left out, but I’m sure they could have found a way to shrink them down for the picture with how many magic users there are
ahhhhhhh so that's why willie the whale and willie the giant weren't included, because they're really iconic too and very popular in the disneyverse since they did several cameos in some disney series ans cartoons
@@Hugo-yz1vb IMO, I have reason to believe that Tamatoa is still stuck on his back to this day… atleast Disney could’ve acknowledged him by cutting to him still being on his back.
That would be pretty cool, but probably gets old fast. It would be like Wrath breaking the Internet. I think Disney would just use it as an excuse to use their brands. Also, it would ruin the magic of this short. At leas that's what I think
Fun fact: if you recognize the piano music when Mickey looks at the portrait of Walt Disney, it's an instrumental of Feed The Birds from Mary Poppins, but there's more to the story. Feed The Birds was one of Walt's favorite songs. He loved it so much that he would call the Sherman Brothers into his office every week to have them play it for him. Even after Walt died, Richard Sherman would regularly go to his office and play the song. The music you hear in the special is not just Richard Sherman playing Feed The Birds, it's him playing the song on the original piano, recorded in Walt's office.
I remember reading about that when "Saving Mister Banks" came out! It's the reason why they included that short scene of Walt listening to Richard Sherman play it.
I was wondering if others would catch that. When Disney died, they played the song at his funeral. And a little bird flew by as it played. I'm not sure if I believe in a higher power, but....stories like that make me want to.
Let me tell you a story: There was a man named Edmundo Santos. He was a radio host in Mexico. In his show, he talked about the original spanish dub of Snow white, which had a poor song adaptation to Spanish. Edmundo received a letter invited to Disney Studios, where a man in a suit saying he was Walt Disney told him to adapt a new song called "When you wish upon a star" to spanish. While they were talking, a man sitting in a piano was only hearing silently to the conversation. Edmundo did the adaptation inside the train while going back to Mexico, with the new version called "La estrella azul". He was called back to Disney studios ,where he was received by the man sitting in the piano, who told him he was real Walt Disney. Walt offered Edmundo to be the director of Pinnochio spanish dub. That way, Edmundo Santos became the director of all Spanish dubbings of Disney movies for 35 years until his death, and He was the first spanish voice for Mickey Mouse.
That story reminds me of the story Osamu Tezuka told in a 1981 Japanese Magazine interview about his once in a lifetime encounter with Walt Disney at the 1964 New York World's Fair. While promoting the Astro Boy series, he was waiting to get a chance to meet Walt after watching one of his speeches. Tezuka managed to have a conversation with Walt about the possibilities on doing a collaboration together which Walt was open to doing. Walt also congratulated Tezuka and his staff at Mushi Productions after voicing his love of the Astro Boy Anime (which started airing on U.S. television at the time). While the idea was never revisited, Disney made up for the missed opportunity by airing "The Fantastic Adventures of Unico" and "Unico in the Island of Magic" on Disney Channel during the 1980s which were based on Tezuka's Unico manga series. Disney's frequent airings caused Tezuka's Unico to actually gain a dedicated cult following with American audiences. To the point that the original manga gained an official translation in 2012 due to older anime fans being very fond of Unico. Heck, the Kickstarter Campaign for the upcoming "Unico: Awakening" manga series was actually funded by a lot of American fans compared to Japan and ended up becoming an American/Japanese collaborated manga. The campaign's success even caught the attention of Scholastic (The largest publisher and distributor of children's books in the world) for publication in the U.S. as part of Graphix imprint. Unico: Awakening is even getting handbooks and an activity book to further expand the world of Unico in Summer 2024 (which is when the first volume will get publicly released outside of backers).
Also, his daugther was in the short as she is the current voice of Minnie! The other Latin América Disney legends Francisco Colmenero and Arturo Mercado (who have voiced Pete and Scrooge McDuck respectively since their conception as well as several other characters) were in the short too.
Eric Goldberg is an unsung hero when it comes to animation. Sure, Robin Williams did a phenomenal job voicing the Genie, but Eric made the character who he is with that iconic design. And looking at Genie's cameo in this short, Eric's still got the talent.
My favorite part was when Prince Charming’s shoe fell off on the stairs, both him and Cinderella laughing at the irony, only for Max to come and steal it! I especially love how Charming yells for Eric to call off his dog while Cinderella cheers for the pup. I like that, more Disney royalty being friends please.
It is disappointing they’ve never really done that. If I’m not wrong, the little mermaid, Cinderella, and maybe Snow White take place relatively the same time period, though I’m stretching with that last one. All of the earlier movies in fantasy settings could more closely connect for some fun interactions.
@@Savagewolver Based on attire and setting, _Little Mermaid_ and _Cinderella_ seem to be in the 19th century while _Snow White_ is in the 16th century. Not really that close in the case of the last one.
The fact that my boy Jim Hawkins from treasure planet showed up in this was honestly the best, glad to see at least a small nod from Disney to one of its underrated gems
Dude I remember telling myself that if I didn’t see Treasure planet, Atlantis, and brother bear in this short I would riot against disney, I’m so glad they were all included along with many other underrated characters
Agreed, major missed opportunity to have Tamatoa and Sebastian finally interact. Also, Mickey talking to the potrait of Walt, his creator/father, and thanking him for everything was such a heartfelt moment and shows such reverence for walt and everything Disney purely as a movie studio represents. Easily the highlight of the short.
The moment Jiminy Cricket started singing with that 1940's style of vocals hit me like a train, completely unexpected as I thought I was finally immune from Disney nostalgia.
Let’s be honest, this short feels like an apology letter after “Ralph breaks the internet”. Or as schaffrillas once said “Ralph breaks the reputation of Disney animation studios”.
As someone who has been awfully critical of Disney's recent decisions, even I will admit this was a really great short that celebrates Disney's legacy.
It's so nice to hear that even when there are just as many new guys. Even if you don't like Antonio, you can still like seeing him with all the Disney animal sidekicks! Even if you don't like Rapunzel, you can still like seeing her fight Kaa with her iconic frying pan! It's a short that can appeal to anyone who loves Disney animation, no matter how old or what their preferences are. It reminds me of those bumpers Cartoon Network did for their 20th birthday. I was in my angst "everything new sucks" phase, and the only newer cartoons I was watching at the time were Penguins of Madagascar and Phineas and Ferb, and thus didn't know how smart and imaginative shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show, and The Amazing World of Gumball really were. That didn't stop me from finding Tom and Top Cat pranking Gumball cute or Benson chatting with Mr Spacely funny. And now that I DO love these shows, I love those bumpers even more!
I thought this short would be incredibly cheesy, but was humbly surprised, and I'm so glad they didn't leave characters out because of lack or recognizability or popularity. You could really feel the respect and love for all the characters, something that's been lacking in recent years.
Like Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Fox, and Br’er Bear, whom they made this short deliberately to exclude? Like all the characters from the Ron Miller-era and post- *Lion King* movies they blamed for nearly destroying the studio twice that they are only acknowledging now that they are hemorrhaging cash yet again?
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 I mean they included characters from Lady & The Tramp, Peter Pan, Dumbo & Fantasia and all four films have scenes in them that some people consider racist. What would be the difference if they included Br'er Bear, Br'er Rabbit & Br'er Fox in the the short film? It's not like the three of them are inherently racist as characters and Disney used those same characters in their Splash Moutain Ride for literal decades without any controversy. I don't think it would've been bad to include them in the short. That being said their absence didn't ruin the short for me I've never even seen Song Of The South.
The ending bit with “When You Wish Upon a Star” nearly made me bawl. I loved it when Snow White grabbed Asha’s hand: the first animated feature length character, welcoming the most RECENT one. Also JUNGLE BOOK REPRESENTATION BABY!!!! 🎉👏
Same honestly. Seeing the older Disney characters interacting with the newer ones was so heartwarming. Not every character was from a movie that was super great, but you can’t deny seeing them all together was a real treat.
I started to cry tears of joy when I started to hear them singing. Also when Mickey was looking at the picture of Walt Disney, it nearly made me start to tear up, it was beautiful.🥹❤️
The scene with Timon, Olaf, and Genie was a nod to the old Disney World animated attraction "Back to Neverland" where Robin Williams tours the Animation Studio. They even have the animated Robin William's Lost Boy character from the show flying in the background during the scene. Now that is a deep, DEEP cut reference.
As a hunchback fan I feel like we only really get little crumbs of this movie from Disney these days. There’s barely any merch, maybe it will have a nod or small section at a Disney event but that’s pretty rare. So having this moment of Tom Hulce singing as Quasimodo again genuinely made me bawl. I know it is small but the fact they let him sing for the 100 year anniversary special is so touching. I love the touch that he’s sitting on the roof though that’s perfect. Will Disney continue to neglect this movie, yes, but this was nice and will supply me with dopamine for a good while
They forgot my girl esmerlda my middle is after her the same year that came out. Fun fact 1996 is 25th anniversary for Disney world. So 50th anniversary I was 25 on its 75th i will be 50. And 100th I'll be 75.
@@lizzeyflowerI don't think it's a good idea considering Frollo is also part of the picture. But I guess she could've hang out with Quasi on whatever that part of the building is called. But anyone froget about the guard dude who used to work under Frollo untill he decided to help Quasi out because he realised how wrong Frollo's actions were? Yeah, I forgot about him too. To add insult, I don't remember his name.
I won't lie, this short made me tear up. You feel the love that was poured into these movies and characters over the years from the animators and creators. Having grown up with Disney, seeing all the animated films come together was like a love letter to my childhood.
@@starchpileIt really sucks to see the Disney of today. I remember Disney going back to Renaissance in the early-to-mid 2010s after their dark era in the 2000s, only for them to give up and to just buy out competition and to do live-action remakes.
Hearing Robin's voice, even for those two lines, actually did make me tear up. And the brief "Feed the Birds" when Mickey is paying respect to Walt did it as well.
This short felt oddly personal. Every single person on earth grew up with at least one Disney movie. Everyone at least had one that was special. It felt like this short reminded us why it was so special. It felt like the studio dusting off old memories with us. And it wasn’t in the “hey remember this thing from the first movie” it feels more like “Remember these times?”
My favorite bit is when Prince Charming yells for Eric to get his dog but Cinderella says “go Max go!”, it was just so funny and cute, that little interaction is exactly the kinda stuff I wanna see in a crossover short like this! It’s funny but also gives you a sense of these characters’ dynamics within this little world they set up! They could’ve just had Max grab the shoe and they start chasing him but they went the extra mile by having that hilarious dialogue!
The funniest thing this short did was confirming that Aladar from Dinosaur can actually sing AND somehow knows the words to When You Wish Upon a Star. I guess they teach that song to everyone who goes into Disney's Mario 64 paintings.
I would like to note the very fun detail of the designs of the Mickey Mouse characters. The majority of them, including Mickey and Minnie, use their designs from the 1942 short Mickey’s Birthday Party, because of the anniversary occasion. The ones that don’t are Daisy (hers is from Mr. Duck Steps Out, her debut), Pete (his is from Officer Duck, the debut of his current design), Scrooge (from Mickey’s Christmas Carol, the first time he was voiced by Alan Young), and the chipmunks and duck triplets who use their 50’s designs. They did not have to use all these different designs for the characters at all, but they did with very deliberate choices, and that amazes me.
Seeing people so unironically hyped to see chicken littel again was not only funny but kinda touching Goes to show that even if certain movies weren't that good, they all still have some part in this massive legacy
For me, it was Atlantis: The Lost Empire. I would have loved to see Kida, Vinny, and the rest of the gang make an appearance (maybe they're somewhere in the large group photo at the end), but just seeing Milo was good enough.
I hope Dan Abraham and Trent Correy (writers and directors of this short) gain a lot more space inside Disney, and, despite knowing this is almost impossible, with less production interference possible. This was the most genuine Disney production in a long, LONG time, and you can feel their love for the company. They managed to put characters from different eras to interact, and still maintain the essence of everyone. That's unbelievable, and even though I wasn't a guy who grew up with the Disney "classics", I loved this short.
If you listen carefully, the score during the scene is playing "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins. It is said that that song was Walt's favorite from any of his movies.
This short actually made me cry. It’s like the last hurrah from the little magic that this soulless company has now. It feels like we are being sent back to when Disney still had the magic for one last time. I never thought a Disney product would ever make me feel this emotional ever again.
I love how old Disney went back to it's old ways . . . nothing related to Star Wars/Marvel ; Just a story made with heart ; no matter how short it may be .
A cynical person would look at this short and claim that it's "nostalgia pandering," but personally, I'll take this over any remake Disney is making these days.
It’s weird, but in amongst all the incredibly obscure characters who appear here, the biggest pop for me was actually seeing Lanny and Wayne from Prep & Landing. They only ever appeared in televised shorts, but that first one has been one of my favorite things to watch around Christmas time ever since it came out.
Seeing Mickey looking at Walt Disney's photo was my favorite part. Mickey looking at that photo was something I didn't even know I desperately needed to see. I'm so tired of people painting him to be this greedy monster. He's always going to be my favorite character. I love his personality and spirit. I love what HE stands for. And what Mickey Mouse stands for....is us. Our childhood. Back when we were dreamers. Back when we could be mischievous and make people laugh. Then, "Feed the Birds" kicked on, and I outright sobbed. That was Disney's favorite song, and he'd often have it play while it looked out the window, contemplating. They played it at his funeral, and a little bird flew by. He was not a perfect man. But none of us are. And you CAN love these characters, these movies, while still acknowledging the company's issues at large. No one should try and take your love of the characters and films away from you. No one. They are a part of us all. And that's not a bad thing.
Listen I love me some Disney whimsy as much as the next person, but... Walt Disney was a human being, not a saint. Human beings are flawed people... case in point, Walt being so anti-union... wanting people to do their best work, staying for long hours but not being compensated very well for it. The public need to stop idolizing real people. Their PR persona is not who they really are.
@@zachanikwano There's nothing wrong with admiring people. Walt Disney COMPLETELY changed the game with his company. There is no denying that. An entire generation of animation fans became fans BECAUSE OF HIS COMPANY. I'll always admire what he CREATED. I'll admire his story. Because it's interesting. I can also acknowledge he wasn't a perfect person, because as I mentioned, none of us are.
I feel like that's always been Mickey Mouse, a very heartfelt character at his core, it's just that he's so firmly identified with the company as a whole that when people are criticizing Disney the corporation, they use Mickey Mouse as a shorthand symbol the same way Uncle Sam or Lady Liberty is used to represent America in political cartoons/satire.
@@colbystearns5238but to that point, people don't use Bugs Bunny or Mario or Pikachu in that same way when critical of those companies. Mario maybe here and there, but not Pikachu or Bugs. It could be cause Mickey IS just that recognizable but Bugs is Mickey's equal. You'd think with all the nonsense Zaslav is doing again they'd use Bugs as they use Mickey to critique his decisions. But they don't. I should make an edit; I'm not saying the general public SHOULD start doing this as often as they use Mick as shorthand, I'm simply saying I don't see it as much with these other iconic mascot as I do with Mickey, which doesn't really seem fair to Mickey's character.
The moment that really took me by surprise was seeing Minnie alongside Bolt, Mittens, and Rhino. Plus if you look closely at the photo at the end, you can actually see Penny alongside the trio of animals. The last time we saw these characters was when they showed up in the animated short "Super Rhino" which came out in 2009. This means its been fourteen years since Bolt and friends were last utilized by Disney. So the fact that they make an appearance in this short just absolutely caught me off-guard
What I also love about this is that they brought obscure characters from less than popular movies. I was pleasantly surprised that Home on the Range, Chicken Little, Brother Bear, Dinosaur, Meet the Robinsons, made cameos in this. I for sure thought they would just reference the most popular characters and films like Frozen and Lion King but nope. Shows that this short was made with so much love.
Idk why, but seeing Disney even just acknowledge "The Great Mouse Detective"'s existence made me happy cause they basically have forgot that the movie existed-
I feel a TV14 Office-style documentary would work REALLY well with these characters. Just hearing Mickey being different than his normal self and cursing just makes me smile.
@@nerdgeekman NO! Keep what they created, but keep away the what we own shit. House of Mouse is a celebration of Disney, not celebration of Cinema as a whole.
The interactions between old and new characters in such a natural way; the appearance of even not very well known characters like the shorts ones, Itchabod Crane or Fantasia in the photo; the return (as a non english-speaking country viewer) of nearly all the original dubs; and the final song... This short has all the magic created in these 100 years concentrated in 8 minutes AND I F-LOVE IT! AND I WANT A 1000 PIECES PUZZLE OF THE FINAL PHOTO!!!
This short really did have a lot of heart and soul poured into it. Seeing tons of our favorite characters coming together for this grand milestone. This was a very wholesome labor of love. And yeah it’s too bad that we didn’t get to see Tamatoa. I personally thought my favorite moments was the elevator gag and Scar’s cameo, as well as Genie’s cameo. Fun fact is that they used deleted lines from the original Aladdin movie for Genie’s dialogue. I think it’s because they didn’t want to use AI technology for Robin Williams’s voice.
They wouldn't have been able to AI Robin Williams' voice even if they wanted to. Zelda Williams has expressed a rightful disdain for AI voices, especially of her father. And thus his estate would likely have forbade it.
I was very fortunate enough to watch a premier of this short at the Ottawa International Animation Festival. Hearing directors Trent Correy and Dan Abraham's passion for writing and creating the short was very touching. The love letter to the studio shows through. If this was in less caring hands, it could've easily been soulless
As a kid, my favorite movie was (and still is) Cinderella. Even though I have grown up and have seen how evil companies can be, watching this short made me feel something I havent felt since I was a little child: innocence. I think that was the purpose of this short.
Agreed, Recent Disney films haven't been good since 2016s Zootopia. They either failed to capture the magic and joy or pushed agenda. But this brings back my childhood memories of the early 2000s. Thank you so much.
I loved it too, ugh... I wish they would just make films like this, it's all there! They did such a wonderful job, such a beautiful tribute. They have an entire animation division just brewing with potential and creativity, and they hardly use it to it's full potential anymore, they need to let them have an input on the films more, this was just great.
This was actually a genuinely good short. It easily could have been an obnoxiously self-congratulating nostalgia-fest/ego trip, but this felt both really well made and completely genuine. They even managed to do a “Remembering Walt” but that was actually tasteful! Disney definitely earned the right to make something this good, and it’s one of the best things they’ve put out recently.
This short was a blast. The different styles of animation worked seamlessly together and seeing these characters interact was really entertaining. The ending was incredibly wholesome. I'm very excited for Wish. It looks awesome. And Gaston singing his song to himself? Absolute perfection.
As much as I DESPISE modern disneys track record post 2012 and what they generally stand for as a corporate poison on the entertainment industry, I will admit…this did hit me right in the feels, almost makes me remember times of legitimate passion and creativity
We were all kids once, and there was a time when our love for Disney's movies wasn't poisoned by Disney's buisness practices. It was a little cheesy but it did kick me right in my emotional nuts.
@@starchpilePeople honestly keep saying how Disney became an evil Corporation, when in reality they were always an evil Corporation. It's just that we grew up and then we realize that.
One thing I have to bring up about this short is the European Spanish dub. For context, Disney films didn't get dubs made in Spain until Beauty and the Beast, and all of the movies prior to that got their dubs made in Latin America. Some of the older movies got redubs in Spain while media like the Direct-to-DVD sequels, Kingdom Hearts and House of Mouse gave these characters new voice actors due to the dubs being made here. Once Upon a Studio used archived audio for the older characters and it was super nostalgic to hear characters like Peter Pan or the fairies from Sleeping Beauty speaking with the voices from the Latin American dubs. Now THAT is attention to detail.
Wow. That's up there with Pixar casting Jodi Benson as Barbie because, at the time, she was the last person to have voiced her in any piece of official media, specifically a direct-to-video cartoon in the '80s that hardly anyone would have remembered by 1999.
I absolutely teared up at the inclusion of Surfshark VPN at the end. This short was not only a great tribute to Disney's legacy but in a time when cyber security can be daunting, it's great Disney included this beautiful logo to remind us SurfShark VPN is here to make everything a bit safer.
To be fair, Disney didn't create most of these characters. They adapted them. But most of them are so different from their source material and usually way more iconic, than said source material, that they might as well be creations. Damn. This Studio really did have a huge influence on society.
As someone who has the Black Cauldron as one of her favorites (it's not the best, I just really love it). I actively squealed when Princess Eilonwy showed up next to the OTHER princesses with Taran. It was so good to see her again!
i watched it the first time on disney plus, and while not perfect i really enjoyed it and its now one of my all time favorite disney movies along with Atlantis and treasure planet @@jessecooper5900
I played the Apple IIGS video game of it with access to the actual movie being limited for so long. It was basically nowhere to be found until the end of the 1990s when they finally relented to a video release. I still want to see the animation that Jeffrey Katzenberg made them cut.
the scene where Mickey talks to Walt Disney's picture makes me feel so emotional, it gives me goosebumps everytime I hear those two lines, even out of context.. It's like this short carries that magic of classic Disney Truly a great gift to the fans and a sign of respect to the people that made all this possible
A show that I thought was a good concept but needed better animation to work in execution. This isn’t it. Some of the character work is kind of sloppy.
I might be overthinking this but I find it interesting how most of these characters are on a first name basis with each other. For example: Moana when she asked Merlin for help, Minnie when she told Peter Pan to get the folks upstairs and he addressed her as 'Captain', Prince Charming telling Eric to get his dog after he stole his shoe and Rapunzel telling Micky she'll deal with Kaa when he was hypnotizing Clarabelle. So, perhaps these characters talk to each other and interact when everyone else has left the building on a daily basis?
I found it sweet how Peter Pan addressed Minnie Mouse as "Captain", despite his extremely masculine boyish nature, and how Minnie is a feminine girlish character.
I think this video is proof that while disney is far from the grace and incredible studio it once was with enough effort and hard work they can still do good.
This was one of the best things I ever watched. I got emotional during the When You Wish Upon a Star and Mickey seeing Walt. My childhood all together made me smile.
It's good that my boy Quasi, just sang it together in the group. Hell, also bringing few Disney characters like "Treasure Planet," "The Great Mouse Detective," "The AristoCats," and few unappreciated Disney films were welcome. That's a good 100th year celebration. 👍
I swear to God I thought the short would forget my favorite Disney movie aka The Rescuers Down Under, but they actually thought smart and made 2 gags of Cody and Joanna, which actually made me smile big! They deserve to be in the short not only because it was the first Disney sequel (even though it failed at the box office but that's not the point), but because it was the first Disney movie to entirely use CAPS animation. Im glad every Disney animated movie classic was brought into this special short!
I have an irrational brainrot for Carl, so not only RANDOMLY seeing him in the elevator, AND THEN seeing almost everyone from the movie was insane. Especially since Meet the Robinsons has been in the dust since it came out.
Once Upon a Studio feels like it came straight from one of my random dreams that I still remember for years, which is probably why I got so giddy watching it when it premiered. I could totally see other animation studios like Dreamworks doing something like this next some day!
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 i meant an anniversary short where every Godzilla incarnation and every toho and legendary Kaiju taking a 70th anniversary photo
There’s just… something about all of them getting into the song at the very end, where it crescendos, that gets to me. Walt and the Nine Old Men would be proud.
If Tamatoa was in this short, maybe the gold on his shell could've added some sparkles to the big photo. Just another neat way to tie in Disney's classic magic with some of their modern content. That said, this felt like a genuine love letter to the animation studio. It was amazing seeing obscure characters interact with the more iconic ones, and with everyone appearing in their respective medium.
This animated short film has gotten be The Greatest thing Disney has Done this year. I was so surprised to see Chicken Little make an appearance and that moment with Mickey talking to Walt was Perfect.
Its really sweet that Once Upon A Studio kept true to the old routes of just being an anniversary event for Disney’s 100 years. For all the shit we give Disney its nice to see a short that wasn’t just nostalgia pandering for the sake of it… but to celebrate the significance of Disney’s impact as an animation studio as a whole. I’m hoping Wish will finally also be the turn around point where we can start a new era.
I've seen it during Annecy festival this year and the directors got a full 7 minutes standing ovation for it, the whole room cried it was an incredible disney moment

I wish Disney would make an adaptation of Through the Looking-glass, Alan Tudyk is just perfect casting choice for the Mad Hatter despite having a current voice actor with Corey Burton.
@hunterolaughlin You know, out of all the Straight-To-DVD Sequels we got from Disney, I was really surprised to see how none of them was Alice Through the Looking Glass. But oh well, we have plenty of Through the Looking Glass adaptations to watch for free here on RUclips.
This was one of the sweetest shorts of all time imo. I adore Walt Disney Animation Studios, full with talented artists and creators. Seeing all Disney Eras coming together, bleding 2D and 3D animation, with interesting interactions, it was just so magical. Can't lie that i'm actually interested in watching Wish. Let's see if it will capture the magic of the Renaissance Era :)
I also agree with most comments. It is a really good short. They did a great job mixing 2d and 3d animation too! I hope Disney will learn from this what the people really want to see in a Disney movie!
The studio that made Chip n Dale movie wasn’t Disney Animation, so it’s different people working on it and making decisions about it creatively! That’s probably why
Maybe I’m getting old at the ripe age of 25, but man there really is something magical about Old Disney. A kind of magic I haven’t felt in years of watching modern Disney
This short actually had a sort of mission statement: include at least something from every Disney animated movie to date. That's the only reason Chicken Little is there. So yes, everyone's there. Cleverly, the design they used of Mickey covers the movies he starred in at the time of said design, like Mickey and the Beanstalk, 3 Mouseketeers, etc. They even managed to fit Churnabog in there! But I will say, as a big Meet the Robinsons fan, its prevalence was a delight to me.
I loved it when Elsa froze Hans before he exited his painting, when Anna asked about The Villains. Say what you will about this Snow Queen, but even she thought he was a garbage antagonist. 😂
Another nice detail is that since recording technology has advanced, characters from older movies like Bambi and Pinocchio also had older audio quality when they spoke
Yes ! Thank you, the short is what i wanted to see in Wreck it Ralph 2, disney characters interacting with each other not just the popular princesses 🙄 which of course is down to coporate Disney. I was so happy with this short that teared up a bit, you can tell the people who made this short love and respect all the Disney films not just the most popular ones. It was so refreshing to see films like Treasure Planet, home on the range, chicken little, meet the robinsons get some recognition. As much as i love the film Disney is more than a Frozen film and spin offs lol 😊😊
This is gonna sound weird, but the thing that made me smile the most about this short was Mickey saying "After you," during Oswald's appearance. Acknowledging how Oswald was the first successful character of the studio and how his creation directly correlates to Mickey just makes me so happy.
That’s not weird, I thought that was great too!
Oswald being included added 20 years to my life
i was hoping wed get an oswald scene! hes so adorable
i cried when oswald came on screen lol
By sheer coincidence, I was in Disneyland recently and we decided to meet Mickey himself.
During the extremely long waiting time, I was wondering what I should say to him. Then I decided to greet him like an old friend and asked "How's Oswald?". He enthusiastically gave me a thumbs up, it honestly made my day.
Seeing Disney acknowledge Chicken Little in 2023 is so surreal.
Same with Treasure Planet. Granted I found Treasure Planet to be criminally underrated, but I’m surprised that they decided to have Jim Hawkins make a cameo.

This would apply to Tamatoa too. Mofo is 16 meters tall, he's taller than even the tallest sauropod dinosaurs.

Omg I didn’t notice! Feed the Birds is one of my favourite Disney songs and that is such a nice detail!
Yes! I wondered if someone else noticed. It almost made me cry man
stop why this did make me tear up all over again hahaha
I was wondering if others would catch that. When Disney died, they played the song at his funeral.
And a little bird flew by as it played. I'm not sure if I believe in a higher power, but....stories like that make me want to.
Let me tell you a story:
There was a man named Edmundo Santos.
That's a good story!
That's really interesting!
Also, his daugther was in the short as she is the current voice of Minnie! The other Latin América Disney legends Francisco Colmenero and Arturo Mercado (who have voiced Pete and Scrooge McDuck respectively since their conception as well as several other characters) were in the short too.

Yeah, that was great.
Not really that close in the case of the last one.

amen to that, you and me both
It's so nice to hear that even when there are just as many new guys.
One of the only things good about Disney nowadays is the animation department. I'm still excited for Wish.

What would be the difference if they included Br'er Bear, Br'er Rabbit & Br'er Fox in the the short film? It's not like the three of them are inherently racist as characters and Disney used those same characters in their Splash Moutain Ride for literal decades without any controversy.
And randomly Mulan
The scene with Timon, Olaf, and Genie was a nod to the old Disney World animated attraction "Back to Neverland" where Robin Williams tours the Animation Studio. They even have the animated Robin William's Lost Boy character from the show flying in the background during the scene.
Now that is a deep, DEEP cut reference.
Seeing the Robin Williams lost boy was an absolute treat for me as a Disney/animation nerd. Lol
I won't lie, this short made me tear up. You feel the love that was poured into these movies and characters over the years from the animators and creators. Having grown up with Disney, seeing all the animated films come together was like a love letter to my childhood.
Absolutely. For a few minutes I was able to forget the Disney of today and remember just enjoying the movies as a youngster.
@@starchpileIt really sucks to see the Disney of today. I remember Disney going back to Renaissance in the early-to-mid 2010s after their dark era in the 2000s, only for them to give up and to just buy out competition and to do live-action remakes.
Same I also teared up
Hearing Robin's voice, even for those two lines, actually did make me tear up. And the brief "Feed the Birds" when Mickey is paying respect to Walt did it as well.
One bar of that song is 10 too many.
My favorite was Oswald showing up and Mickey saying after you
The funniest thing this short did was confirming that Aladar from Dinosaur can actually sing AND somehow knows the words to When You Wish Upon a Star. I guess they teach that song to everyone who goes into Disney's Mario 64 paintings.
Yeah, that's hilarious.
Seeing people so unironically hyped to see chicken littel again was not only funny but kinda touching
Goes to show that even if certain movies weren't that good, they all still have some part in this massive legacy
Every movie has its fans. There are people who swear by The Black Cauldron or Dinosaur, so it’s great that the films got some representation

This short is the closest we can get to a House of Mouse revival. That show was fucking awesome as a kid.

The scene with Mickey seeing a painting of his father, truly touched and tugged at my heartstrings.
It’s nice to see actual 2D and 3D animation interact
The rage about tamatoa not being in the short and comparing him to Ridley is so funny
I love how old Disney went back to it's old ways . . . nothing related to Star Wars/Marvel ; Just a story made with heart ; no matter how short it may be .
They still have more remakes on their checklist tho.
A cynical person would look at this short and claim that it's "nostalgia pandering," but personally, I'll take this over any remake Disney is making these days.

But they don't. I should make an edit; I'm not saying the general public SHOULD start doing this as often as they use Mick as shorthand, I'm simply saying I don't see it as much with these other iconic mascot as I do with Mickey, which doesn't really seem fair to Mickey's character.
Well also, Walt not only created Mickey, but voiced him too in the early shorts. Mickey was sort of Walt's avatar too, in a lot of ways.
Dude, the fact that they even had Jim from Treasure Planet automatically means it is good
And Milo from Atlantis
What I also love about this is that they brought obscure characters from less than popular movies. I was pleasantly surprised that Home on the Range, Chicken Little, Brother Bear, Dinosaur, Meet the Robinsons, made cameos in this. I for sure thought they would just reference the most popular characters and films like Frozen and Lion King but nope. Shows that this short was made with so much love.

Soy de Latinoamérica y no sabía de ese dato :0
Ahora me dan ganas de ver el corto en el doblaje de España jaja
Wow. That's up there with Pixar casting Jodi Benson as Barbie because, at the time, she was the last person to have voiced her in any piece of official media, specifically a direct-to-video cartoon in the '80s that hardly anyone would have remembered by 1999.
Seeing the obscure but dearly beloved characters animated by their studios for the first time in ages is just so wonderful
I absolutely loved it, especially the Jim Hawkins fly by and Quasimodo singing, by far the best thing they have released recently
I absolutely teared up at the inclusion of Surfshark VPN at the end. This short was not only a great tribute to Disney's legacy but in a time when cyber security can be daunting, it's great Disney included this beautiful logo to remind us SurfShark VPN is here to make everything a bit safer.
This is why I don’t accept sponsorships for my videos.
As a large Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Stan, watching Mickey bow and say "after you" to him made me die of happiness
It was so good to see her again!
same
YES! The Black Cauldron was so important to me as a kid and seeing it finally get acknowledged by Disney after so long made my week!
i watched it the first time on disney plus, and while not perfect i really enjoyed it and its now one of my all time favorite disney movies along with Atlantis and treasure planet @@jessecooper5900
It's like this short carries that magic of classic Disney
Truly a great gift to the fans and a sign of respect to the people that made all this possible
This is probably the closest we’ll ever get to a modern House of Mouse
A show that I thought was a good concept but needed better animation to work in execution. This isn’t it. Some of the character work is kind of sloppy.
God I miss that show.
4:09 this reference to “Nintendo has FORGOTTEN about Mario…” is absolute GOLD
Once upon a studio showed me that while most of the magic has been sapped out, some still lingers.
The name of Cinderella’s prince is Prince Charming
@@tannerp.4996 Thank you.
I found it sweet how Peter Pan addressed Minnie Mouse as "Captain", despite his extremely masculine boyish nature, and how Minnie is a feminine girlish character.
4:42 Spoilers for Wish below:
Schaffrillas called it! He somehow even got the Chicken Little bit right.
I think this video is proof that while disney is far from the grace and incredible studio it once was with enough effort and hard work they can still do good.
This was one of the best things I ever watched. I got emotional during the When You Wish Upon a Star and Mickey seeing Walt. My childhood all together made me smile.
After everything , after all the controversies ,... stories and all
Disney is still one of the most important events to happen in the entire industry
Seeing all these characters together with their animation true to their roots makes it look like a YTP edit and I mean that in the best way possible
I have an irrational brainrot for Carl, so not only RANDOMLY seeing him in the elevator, AND THEN seeing almost everyone from the movie was insane. Especially since Meet the Robinsons has been in the dust since it came out.
Glad to see some love for the Robinsons
Once Upon a Studio feels like it came straight from one of my random dreams that I still remember for years, which is probably why I got so giddy watching it when it premiered. I could totally see other animation studios like Dreamworks doing something like this next some day!
Or even Studio Ghibli. For the love of god, if the studio turns 40, let them make their Once Upon a Studio.
@@pennysanchez7656or how about toho and Legendary doing their own once upon a studio for godzilla's 70th anniversary next year

The perfect way to celebrate an entire century of Disney.
There’s just… something about all of them getting into the song at the very end, where it crescendos, that gets to me. Kaa especially, the way he was animated was beautiful - how he raises his head while singing the last note and then his *whole body* moves in relaxation as the photo is taken 😭💖😭💖😭💖
The whole special is gorgeous and wonderful and I keep getting teary-eyed even while watching other people react.
Kronk and bowler-hat guy standing next to each other made my year
I cried watching Once Upon A Studio. there was more emotion in this eight minute film than any of their recent films. it was beautiful.
This animated short film has gotten be The Greatest thing Disney has Done this year. I was so surprised to see Chicken Little make an appearance and that moment with Mickey talking to Walt was Perfect.
4:55 love how you covered Sisu with the SurfShark VPN logo
👏👏👏
It could have been HILLARIUS, if it covered Mike Wasouski, as in character

I know everyone has memed about it, but seeing a character in chicken little appear in anything after so long just makes me really, REALLY happy
Indeed, haven’t seen that since kingdom hearts 2
Its really sweet that Once Upon A Studio kept true to the old routes of just being an anniversary event for Disney’s 100 years. For all the shit we give Disney its nice to see a short that wasn’t just nostalgia pandering for the sake of it… but to celebrate the significance of Disney’s impact as an animation studio as a whole. I’m hoping Wish will finally also be the turn around point where we can start a new era.
This is the closest thing to a House of Mouse reboot and I loved every second of it
Seeing Bianca and Bernard was nice. The Rescuers was my most recent re-watch.
I've seen it during Annecy festival this year and the directors got a full 7 minutes standing ovation for it, the whole room cried it was an incredible disney moment
My favourite parts were Nick mocking Judy’s bunny pun, Mickey saying goodbye to Walt Disney himself, Genie meeting Olaf, Rapunzel knocking out Kaa, and Ralph calling Mickey Garfield! 🥹🏰🪄🐭🖤🐰🦊🧞♂️⛄️👸🏼💜🐍✊🧱
P.S. I’m so happy you acknowledged that Mad Hatter and King Candy are basically the same character! 😂😂😂😂🎩💚👑🍬
P.P.S. Now that I think about it, Tamatoa not being included in this short does feel illegal. 😭🦀🐚✨
They PERFECTLY replicated the styles for everything. It is beautiful
I was laughing so hard at Louisa holding the cows from "home on the range"

This was one of the sweetest shorts of all time imo. I adore Walt Disney Animation Studios, full with talented artists and creators. Seeing all Disney Eras coming together, bleding 2D and 3D animation, with interesting interactions, it was just so magical. Can't lie that i'm actually interested in watching Wish. Let's see if it will capture the magic of the Renaissance Era :)
1:52 imagine working somewhere for 70 years...
I also agree with most comments. It is a really good short. They did a great job mixing 2d and 3d animation too! I hope Disney will learn from this what the people really want to see in a Disney movie!
I am blown away that they actually committed to 2D animation for this, after they dropped the ball so hard on the Chip N Dale movie
The studio that made Chip n Dale movie wasn’t Disney Animation, so it’s different people working on it and making decisions about it creatively! That’s probably why
I liked this short, but what made me love it was the fact that they brought back Oswald
Now that was epic
I’m glad he got some acknowledgment rather than just being a background character
Epic Mickey
Yes, that's great.
Maybe I’m getting old at the ripe age of 25, but man there really is something magical about Old Disney. A kind of magic I haven’t felt in years of watching modern Disney
“Oh no, no no!” That was Pat carols final line. Rest in peace pat, rest in peace Ursula
The pre-Mary Poppins hybrids are excluded though, as was the 2011 Pooh movie.
I loved it when Elsa froze Hans before he exited his painting, when Anna asked about The Villains. Say what you will about this Snow Queen, but even she thought he was a garbage antagonist. 😂
I'm just happy they actually acknowledged Treasure planet for once
And Meet the Robinsons
Schafrillas never fails to make me happy when he uploads
You bet he never fails, dude's a comedic, awesome genius.
